Dedicated to: starliex, because they wanted to see the aftermath of the abduction for Deidara's and Itachi's point of view. I hope I didn't mess it up too badly!

Chapter 48
Itachi broke the silence when they were home, their two sons entertaining themselves in Akihito's room with their last round of a game before they would have to go to sleep.
"How much did you tell Naruto-kun?" he asked; Naruto's oddly pale face burned in his memory.
The younger man hadn't looked at him even once when he and Sasuke had arrived at the hospital room, nor had he looked at Sasuke even as he had followed his husband to their car. Clearly Deidara had told him something for Naruto to have looked both so pissed off and withdrawn at the same time.
Deidara sighed and sank down on the couch, rubbing his hands over his face. "Basically everything, un," he replied tiredly; his voice muffled by his hands. "Didn't have much choice anymore, given that he saw the bodies."
"And he didn't react well," Itachi surmised with a soft sigh, sitting down next to his mate.
The Omega shook his head; his face etched with weariness. "Not at all. I can't blame him for that, un. We did keep a rather important part hidden from him."
"Sasuke requested that we wouldn't talk about it near Naruto-kun and I respected that," Itachi murmured.
He and his brother had had a couple of arguments about it in the past, actually. Itachi was of the opinion Naruto was better off knowing about the other side of their family just in case something did happen – like today, a poisonous voice whispered in the back of his mind – but Sasuke had been adamant that the blond man wouldn't know about it, insisting there was no point when Sasuke himself wasn't involved.
It was true that Sasuke had never been involved in that particular form of the family business – bar some unfortunate events – but he was aware of it and he had known from the start that if anything ever happened, he could count on his older brother to take care of it.
In all the years that Itachi had known Naruto and in the years he'd been married to Sasuke, the other side of the family had never interfered with Naruto's personal life and Itachi had respected Sasuke's decision to keep quiet about it.
He wasn't the one married to Naruto, so it wasn't his business whether Sasuke decided to come clear about their other side or not. He might disagree with the refusal, but he had respected it, because a part of him had thought there would never be any reason to bring it up around Naruto anyway, careful as they all were to keep those two worlds separated.
Until today that was.
Today had been a very harsh reminder as to why keeping secrets wasn't always such a great thing to do.
"I know we did, but now … Naruto-kun was pissed, yeah, but worse, he's hurt and it sucks to realise that I claim to be his best friend, yet I kept quiet about this the entire time, un," Deidara said frustrated, slumping back against the couch. "He probably thinks we've been playing a joke on him this entire time and I don't even want to imagine what's going to happen between Sasuke-kun and Naruto-kun now."
"They'll get through this," Itachi said confidently. "You know as well as I do how crazy those two are about each other; this won't tear them apart."
"I don't know, Itachi," Deidara said quietly, his eyes staring unseeingly at the television. "I've never seen him this pissed off before and I've known him for more than half my life now. You know what the worst part is?"
He turned to look at the Alpha, who shook his head mutely. "The worst part is to realise that the only reason why I even came clean about that part today was because he saw the bodies, un. That's the only reason. Because today was the first time we couldn't shield him from the dangers involved with our family, even though there have been several other moments we could have come clean about it, un. Other moments that could have involved him if we hadn't put a stop to it on time. Do you remember Shin, un?"
Itachi grimaced, disgust coating the back of his throat. Oh yes, he remembered Shin, all right. He remembered that deranged bastard all too well.
Four years ago
"Have you read the latest report of Kie?"
It was rare for Nagato to just barge in like that and when Itachi looked up, frowning, he caught his secretary leaning around the doorway, sporting an apologetic look. Clearly she had attempted to halt Nagato for at least a little bit, but Nagato never let himself be stalled.
He nodded at her and she closed the door, returning to her desk.
"No, I haven't yet. Why, is there something peculiar about it?" He saved the file he'd been working on, knowing he wouldn't get any work done as long as the other man was in his office.
Kie had been assigned this month to occasionally check the street where his brother lived, ensuring nothing looked amiss. There weren't any enemies they needed to be aware of and so far nothing bad had ever occurred at Sasuke's address, but it was better to be safe than sorry and so each month a new guard was assigned to the street.
Normally he read the reports at the end of each week, but he hadn't got around to doing that yet; too many documents needing to be signed and too many ruffled feathers needing to be smoothed over.
Nagato waved the file around; an act so unlike him, a man composed in all sorts of situations, that it made Itachi sit up straight, instantly wary.
"He's taken notice of someone lurking around your brother's home," he said; his lips thinning. "At least five times this month alone. It's not someone who lives nearby nor is it someone visiting someone else in the street."
Five times a month made it at least twice a week given that the month was barely half way. "Was he able to take a picture of him?" Itachi demanded.
Briefly his mind flitted to a pink haired nuisance they had got rid of years ago and for a moment he entertained the idea that she might have sent someone after Sasuke. It was an idea which got dismissed immediately, because the rare correspondence that she did have in prison was carefully monitored and nothing in them had ever indicated that she had gathered enough funds to send someone after either Sasuke or Naruto.
"Yes," Nagato replied; his voice odd, making Itachi frown harder. "Look at this, I think you'll find this most interesting."
He opened the file and plucked a picture out of it, placing it on the desk in front of Itachi. A bald man with pale skin to the point of being nearly translucent stared surly back at him; dressed in a long coat and his own hands clenched around a camera. Itachi recognised him immediately as someone they had hired a little while ago to work in the accountancy department.
He'd been hard not to remember with how intense he had looked like during his interview and the way his gaze had been utterly fixated on Itachi alone, completely ignoring Kisame. His credentials had checked out, however, and he'd done very well in the interview, better than the others, so Itachi had hired him, thinking the odd disposition might have been because of nerves.
"That's Shin. We hired him eight months ago. What the hell is he doing near my brother?" Itachi muttered, pursing his lips together.
The man lived on the other end of the town, there was no reason for him to be anywhere near Sasuke's place, especially not so frequently.
"That's what I like to know as well," Nagato said clipped. "I sent Hidan to his place to check whether he can find something there that might explain why he's near your brother's home. Did he check out during his interview?"
"Yes, everything checked out. I had no reason to refuse him," Itachi replied, still staring at the picture.
"It could be nothing of course, but I've looked up his address. It's nowhere near where Sasuke-san lives and I cannot think of a reason why any of our employees would visit your brother's place."
If Shin was in need of Sasuke's services as a doctor, he could easily contact him at his office. There was indeed no reason at all for him to lurk around Sasuke's and Naruto's home and definitely not more than once. Once could be excused, but the others …
When Nagato's phone rang, he took one look at it before pressing on a button and holding the phone between them. "Yes, Hidan, you found something?"
"Oh man, did I ever! Fuck, you and Uchiha have to see this for yourselves because this is quite some fucked up shit," Hidan answered and for once he sounded deadly serious, not a trace of amusement audible.
Itachi's gaze met Nagato's over the phone. "We'll be there soon," Nagato decided.
For Hidan to not even crack a joke … Something was wrong.
"Well," Nagato broke the loaded silence, "I did not know what exactly to expect, but it certainly wasn't this."
Itachi said nothing, only drifting closer to the wall. They were in Shin's study and there, right in front of him, his face greeted him from every possible angle. There were news article clippings celebrating his company's success', the announcement of his marriage to Deidara – where had he even found that one? – pictures of him in his private time, pictures of him and Deidara, of their children … Pictures of him walking into the office, getting into his car, entering a restaurant.
Seeing his own face, his family, plastered across the wall was disturbing enough, but the sight which greeted him on the other side of the wall was even more sickening. Naruto's face looked back at him several times, from candid shots to blown out pictures obviously printed out. There was Naruto entering his home, Naruto walking with his children in the park, Naruto greeting Sasuke with a kiss as the latter arrived home. Pictures of Naruto shopping, of him visiting friends, of him leaving the school after finishing his work day.
Everywhere he looked he saw nothing but Naruto; the man in the pictures blissfully unaware that he was being stalked. Some pictures only focused on his backside, clearly not taken accidentally, and bile rose up in his throat, stinging the sensitive flesh.
He'd been a witness to and had taken part in a lot of shady deals, had been involved in more than one torture session, but this wall managed to disturb him like nothing else had ever done before. It was one thing to realise someone had an obsession with him – it was a whole other thing to know that his brother-in-law was being targeted by the same disturbed individual.
"If you think that's fucked up, wait until you see this," Hidan said and beckoned them to follow him.
They left the study and made their way to an innocuously looking door right next to the kitchen. There were two heavy locks installed on it, but they weren't locked yet and Hidan simply pushed the door open, stepping aside wordlessly.
Itachi could only stand there and stare, taking in the content of the room equally as quiet. There was a bed with deep red sheets; the headboard and footboard both sporting heavy shackles. The walls had been padded, clearly intended to muffle sounds. A large chest had been placed at the foot of the bed and was open, revealing several kinds of sex toys, whips and bottles of lube stashed into it. Candles had been haphazardly placed everywhere, most likely intending to create a romantic effect once lit, but given how the room looked like combined with the pictures plastered across the wall in the study … It looked anything but romantic.
"Something tells me the padded walls aren't simply there to ensure that the neighbours aren't disturbed," Hidan commented, bracing his shoulder against the doorjamb.
Itachi turned his head. "Is there anything more?"
Hidan huffed and rolled his shoulders. "Yeah, there is. A bunch of notebooks in which he describes rather explicitly what he wants to do with your brother's mate. I advise you not to read it; quite some disturbing shit in those ones. Honestly, that guy's fucked in the head, no two ways about it. Surprises me he hasn't been locked up in a mental institution yet."
For Hidan to claim someone was fucked in the head, it meant that the notebooks did contain some rather disturbing things.
"I had not expected the target to be Naruto-san," Nagato murmured; his cool eyes roaming across the space, his upper lip curling up briefly when he saw the chest. "What do you want to do?"
"Bring him to the old factory building," Itachi replied, an eerie calmness befalling him. "If he thinks he knows everything about me just because he followed me, he's got another thing coming."
"Oh man, I can't wait to see that," Hidan crowed, straightening up immediately. "Hey dude, you mind if I sit in on this one as well? Been a while since I last got some action."
"Don't call me dude," Itachi said calmly and walked past him; his hand dipping into his pocket to call Kisame so that he could take over the office for a while. "And yes, you may sit in on this one, Hidan. In fact I'll let you have him after I'm done with him."
"Damn, I do love how generous you are, Uchiha," Hidan grinned.
Itachi smiled thinly. Time to show Shin just how generous he was indeed.
"I j-just w-w-wanted t-to b-be l-ike you," Shin coughed out; blood bubbling up in the corners of his mouth, forming reddish spit bubbles as he struggled to talk.
Itachi regarded him disinterestedly, cleaning his knife with a rag.
Shin was strung up by his wrists to the ceiling, suspended in the air with his ankles weighted down by heavy shackles. Considering how much he had seemed to love the thought of shackling Naruto down, Itachi had decided it would be fitting if he let Shin act out the fantasy on his own, far away from the blond Omega.
The shirt he'd been wearing was nothing but tatters now, sticking to the various cuts Itachi had painstakingly etched out into Shin's stomach with his sharpest knife. The cuts ranged from barely a hair width thick, barely scratching the surface, to cuts as thick as two fingers wide, the bleeding only stemmed by filthy rags stuffed deep within the cuts.
His kneecaps had been crushed, the bone splinters sticking faintly through the black mottled skin. The soles of his feet were burnt to a crisp from when his feet had been placed right on the surface of boiling hot oil. The stench of burnt human flesh hung between them like invisible smoke.
If Itachi were to walk around him and take a look at Shin's back, he would see several deep lashes, carefully administered and aggravated by the salt rubbed mercilessly into them.
His fingers were nothing but useless, mangled stumps from where a hammer had been brought down upon them time and time again, ensuring he would never be able to hold a camera again. Some teeth had been knocked out when a more primal part of Itachi had taken control first, smashing his fist several times in Shin's face before he had calmed down enough to start the punishment officially.
He was a sore sight to behold, blood and snot and other bodily fluids smeared across the pale skin, and a dark part of Itachi revelled in that, enjoyed how Shin was in so much pain. Stalking him had been one thing, but Shin had sealed his fate the moment he dragged Itachi's family into this. Nobody touched his family and got away with it, not even an employee. Employees – especially disloyal ones – could be replaced; family couldn't be.
"The thing is, Shin," Itachi spoke, studying the blade carefully, "that you would never be able to even reach my ankles, let alone be like me. No matter how much you'd have stalked me, no matter how much you would have tried, you'd never be good enough."
Those words, spoken in an icy tone, seemed to hurt Shin worse than the knife sinking deeply into his lower belly as he started to quiver and shake his head; tears actually dripping down.
"Hidan, you can play with him now. I'm bored of him," Itachi announced and stepped back, smiling darkly when those words cut even deeper into Shin, making him cry harder.
How pathetic.
And he had wanted to be like Itachi? Not even in a million years.
As Itachi strode away, cleaning his hands, he heard Hidan say cheerfully, "Hey, let's find out just how sensitive eyeballs really are, okay, dude? You know how they say they wish they could bleach their eyeballs after having read something disgusting? You and me, we're going to discover how that will actually feel like. Because my dude, you're one fucked up motherfucker!"
"The apartment is being emptied out as we speak," Nagato informed him idly when he stepped into the car. He was going through some files, as if he was merely waiting for a business partner to arrive and not waiting for one to return from a torture session.
"Thanks. Give Kie my gratitude as well. He's earned a promotion, don't you think?" Itachi suggested, giving the sign for the driver to start the car.
Nagato smiled. "I'm certain he'll be most appreciative of that."
Present
"Sometimes I wonder if we shouldn't have said something to him back then," Deidara muttered.
"It wouldn't have made much of a difference," Itachi replied. "There was no need to alarm him when we found out on time anyway."
"True, but still … I just – worry, un," Deidara admitted, sweeping his ponytail over his shoulder. "I don't want this to come between them. Not after all they've gone through so far."
"It's not going to," Itachi reassured him and reached out to him, pulling him in his arms. "Naruto-kun's a lot stronger than you give him credit for," he whispered in blond hair. "He also loves my brother too much to give up on him. It'll be okay, you'll see."
"I really hope you're right," Deidara murmured, burying his face in Itachi's neck.
"When have I ever not been right?" Itachi asked theoretically, smiling when the blond huffed and pinched his waist. He grew serious then, his hands slowly caressing up and down Deidara's back. "How are you feeling now?"
"Like shit," Deidara admitted honestly, refusing to look up. "Like I'll never be clean again." His breath escaped him in a shuddering exhale.
"You did what you had to do," Itachi said, curling the long blond hair around his hand again and again. "They chose to go after you, they have to deal with the consequences. You did what you had to do to save yourself and Naruto-kun. Nobody will ever blame you for that."
"I know, I know, but …" Deidara trailed off, rubbing his face against Itachi's shoulder and pulling his legs on the couch, curling them underneath him. "I just hate that it had to come to that. I never had to – had to - "
"I know, I know," Itachi whispered and kissed his forehead, filling him still against him. "And I wish you didn't have to. I wish I had been there on time, but I'm also proud of you. So proud that you were so strong in spite of what was happening. You did really well today, Deidara, you kept yourself and Naruto-kun safe, never forget that."
His husband was quiet for a while and they listened to the footsteps running around upstairs as their sons realised how late it was and were rushing to be in bed on time. Itachi didn't stop rubbing Deidara's back, didn't stop nuzzling his temple until bit by bit, the Omega relaxed against him; tension slowly slipping away.
"Can I ask you something, un?" Deidara murmured and blue eyes peered up at him from beneath long eyelashes.
"Anything," Itachi immediately replied, tightening his embrace.
"Make that son of a bitch pay for what he wanted to do to me and Naruto-kun," Deidara said, his eyes flashing with that fire Itachi adored so much.
The dark haired man smiled and reached out to cup Deidara's head, bringing him closer for a deep kiss, making the blond moan. "Don't worry," he whispered against parted lips, "he's going to pay dearly for what he wanted to do."
And by the time he was done with him, the bastard would regret ever having thought of going against him.
AN2: Yes, it got a bit dark there *coughs* As some of you guessed correctly, the stalker was indeed Shin :) Also I had a lot of fun writing Hidan in this, just saying.
Please leave your thoughts behind in a review; should you spot any mistakes, please point them out to me.
I hope to see you all back in the next chapter! Please stay safe and take care of yourselves!
