Not long after that, Gai slid into the booth opposite them. "Well, I did it."
"Do we want to know what you did? " Kakashi asked.
Gai smiled weakly. "I know what I need to do."
Yamato stared at him. "Do?"
"If I am amenable to it, Naoko will escort me to the next level from Sanenjin." He said, then paused to give the waitress his order. "I know you probably do not want to know what I have been doing, but I'm afraid I will have to tell you."
And, to Yamato and Kakashi's complete surprise, Gai blushed. They both blinked at him. Kakashi swallowed and said slowly, "Okay."
"I told you early on what I did in the beginning. I have taken it much further than the initial spanking and bondage." He cleared his throat. "Thank you," he said to the waitress and took a drink. When she left, he said, "this apparently goes very, very far here." He sighed. "On Sanenjin, it is, as we are aware, still consensual. For me to go further with it, I must be willing to relinquish the right to say no."
Both Yamato and Kakashi stared at him, then looked at each other. "Are you serious?"
Gai nodded. "I will be escorted to the lower floor by Naoko, naked. I would not be allowed to return until they decide to release me." He gulped down the rest of his drink and signaled the waitress for another. After she left, he continued. "There are still some limitations, since I am the customer. I can dictate, to a point, how much I am willing to do. I can tell them, for instance, what kinds of pain they are allowed to inflict on me. But once I make the agreement, my ability to stop goes away."
The table fell silent as they considered the information. "How are Lee and Tenten going to feel about that?" Kakashi asked finally.
"Tenten is aware of what I have been doing. Lee, as far as I know, is not. At least, not yet. I will have to tell him before I go down there tomorrow night." Gai finished his drink. "But they will accept what needs to happen."
"Are you sure about that?" Yamato asked.
Gai looked at him. "Lee trusts my judgment and even if Tenten does not like what I must do, she will accept it."
"No. No. Absolutely not."
Tenten paced the small bedroom and Gai stared at her, completely floored. "What do you mean, 'no'?"
Tenten shook her head. "Gai, I can't let you do this! We have no real idea what they'll do down there!"
"Can't let me? Tenten? We don't have much choice. We need to get down there. This is the only way." Gai said.
"Can't…can't Kakashi or Yamato go?" She asked and when she spun again, Gai realized that she was near tears. She was scared.
He pulled her to him. "Tenten." She shook her head, but he placed a finger under her chin and tilted it up so that she had to look at him. "Tenten," he said, more harshly this time.
She stared at him, the tears being held back, he knew, by sheer force of will. "No. No. What if…"
"Would you really ask Sakura to go through this instead of you?" He asked, interrupting her.
She deflated at that. "Of course not." She frowned.
"Do you trust in my abilities as a shinobi, Tenten?" He asked her, knowing perfectly well what she'll say.
She sighed. "Yes."
"As taijutsu master, there really is not a better person for this, and you know it. I do not need my hands to fight like Kakashi would. I do not need chakra like Yamato does. I am the best option for this."
She swallowed hard. "I'm sorry."
He wrapped his arms tighter around her. "It is okay. I understand, believe me, I do."
She buried her face in his chest and let the tears fall. "I'm just scared."
She didn't see the tears on his face, too. She didn't know how hard it was for him to see her cry, and she had no idea that he, too, was actually scared. And she wouldn't. He wiped his face carefully and pulled back. "I love you, Tenten. I'll come back to you."
She sniffled. "You better. Or so help me, I'll have find a way to resurrect you just to kill you."
He laughed and hugged her tighter. "Well, I would not want that."
"I can't believe Gai is volunteering for this. Well," Sakura paused, "that's not true. I can believe it, that's the kind of person he is." She shook her head. "But even so…" She frowned. "It's a lot for him to take on."
"He can handle it." Kakashi said. They headed out of the kitchen, having just finished lunch. As they passed the main room, Sakura stopped dead and Kakashi was lost enough in thought that she pulled on him before he realized it. Sho was standing in the hallway, staring at Sakura.
"Sho." Sakura cleared her throat.
"Hi, Sakura." He said and looked away.
Kakashi looked from one to the other, then turned to Yamato and tilted his head toward their room. Yamato nodded. "Take a minute. We'll see you back in the room." He said in her ear and dropped a kiss on her cheek.
"Oh. Um," she looked up at him. "Are you sure?"
"It's fine, Sakura." He squeezed her hand and headed down the hallway.
Sakura turned to Sho. "Um. Hi." She swallowed hard, annoyed at the tears that threatened. She'd been ridiculously happy to see him. And hurt at the same time. She took as deep a breath as possible with the lump in her chest.
He stared at her a moment, then took the extra step closer. He reached out toward her face, but let his hand drop without touching. "Hi." She caught it and held it to her face, closing her eyes. "I miss you." She would have missed the whispered words if she hadn't been hoping to hear something just like them.
"I'm so sorry, Sho." She said, opening her eyes and looking up at him. She couldn't quite let go of his hand yet.
He shook his head. "Don't." He did reach up, then, with his other hand and traced his fingers down her face. "We may only see each other a few more times. Let's not spend them doing that."
She nodded. "So, um…"
"Oh. I have some new information. One of my contacts said that the owner of the club makes a point of always being there on the weekends, when its busiest. Something about new 'employees' or something along those lines."
"Thank you. Gai is going down tonight." Sakura turned toward one of the couches, and sat. After a brief pause, Sho sat next to her.
"How?" He asked, then he put his arm around her, giving up the struggle to not hold her.
She laid her head on his chest and allowed herself to enjoy it. She explained what was going on and what Gai would have to do. "I have to admit to being glad that it's not Kakashi or Yamato. I feel so bad for Tenten."
"He's her…"
"Boyfriend, yes. One of them. Lee is the other - the one that looks like a younger version of Gai." When he turned a puzzled look on her, she blushed. "I never told you. Um. Before Tenten and I came here, we went through a special kind of training for kunoichi specifically. Training to handle missions involving sex."
He raised an eyebrow. "Oh?"
She nodded. "It's…involved, but as ninja one of the things we have to be able to do is be aware of our surroundings at all times." She looked up at him and saw when he got it.
"Oh." He frowned. "Is that one of the reasons you had such a hard time with us?"
She shook her head. "No. Not really. By the time I was having trouble concentrating, Sho, I knew I could trust you."
"Oh."
"Anyway, my…trainers were Kakashi and Yamato. I'd always had something of a crush on Kakashi, but as he told you, he was my sensei. Yamato was my team captain. And while it's not exactly against the rules, while they are in those roles, it's generally frowned upon to form relationships." She shook her head. "I'm getting off on a tangent. Anyway, Gai and Lee were Tenten's trainers. And both of us, during the course of our training…" she trailed off and shrugged, but Sho nodded.
"I see." He smiled down at her. "I don't think you're cut out for those types of missions."
She chuckled. "Truthfully, I only had one really difficult customer. He insisted I fall in love with him."
He laughed. "Well, I guess it's good that there was only one of them."
"Yes. It's hard enough to split my heart three ways." She shook her head and looked up at him. "I do wish I had met you under different circumstances, for what it's worth."
He smiled. "That does make a difference."
Sakura yawned. "I'm sorry. I usually take a nap after lunch. I'm not used to this kind of schedule."
"It's quite alright." He said and stood. "Off to bed with you. Your future husbands are waiting, too. Undoubtedly keeping each other from coming out here to kill me."
She sighed. "They won't. They fear me too much."
He laughed. "Right. I almost forgot." He paused at the door. "Bye, Sakura."
She stared at him, then stood on her tiptoes and touched her lips to his. Any restraint he had broke and he pulled her into his arms and kissed her, pouring his feelings into it. When they broke apart, he eased back, waved once and stepped out the door, closing it softly behind him.
She stood there another moment, her fingers on her lips and tears she didn't know were falling on her cheek. She sighed and turned back to the bedroom. And hoped beyond hope that Gai was successful in finding the nin.
Yamato was the one pacing this time. His hands were stuffed in his pockets, and his long legs ate up the distance from the door to the wall so quickly, he was constantly having to turn and start back. "I'm not going down on you to get your attention." Kakashi said lazily from behind his book.
Yamato stopped and raised an eyebrow at him. "Excuse me?"
Kakashi chuckled, putting his book down. "Good, the threat was enough. Come here."
Yamato moved over and sat next to him. "Aren't you ready to go out there and tear him up?"
"Yes. But it won't help. And Sakura's likely to send us both back to Konoha by air if we do." Kakashi sighed. He looked over at the younger man. "We love her. So does he. But remember this, she's marrying us. We get her for the rest of our lives. This is all he'll ever get."
Yamato frowned. "You're right."
"Of course I am." Kakashi said, picking up his book.
"You don't have to rub it in." He said and Kakashi just snickered.
Yamato picked up the Icha Icha volume he'd been reading on their day off, but couldn't concentrate. He pulled something out of his pocket and stuck it in front of Kakashi's book.
"What's this?"
"Just something I came up with. If you or Sakura doesn't like it, that's okay. I just…thought it represented us all."
Kakashi stared down at the thing he held. It was a ring. Carved into it around the entire thing was what appeared to be tree branches. Woven through the branches were streaks of lightning. "I'm assuming it would be in metal."
Yamato put the book down and turned to him, taking the ring back and pointing. "The base would be yellow gold. I thought the tree branches could be in a copper color, your lightning in white gold. And we could have the leaves in small green stones. For Sakura's eyes."
Kakashi looked the ring over. "It's brilliant. She'll love it."
Yamato looked back down at it. "Do you think so?"
"Yeah, I do." Kakashi watched him play with it a moment, then put his hand over Yamato's. "So do I."
Yamato looked up at him. "Yeah?"
"Yeah. Let's go tomorrow and see if we can have them done before we leave."
"If Sakura likes it."
"If she does. But I know she will."
She chose that moment to walk it. "If I like what?"
Yamato blushed, but Kakashi pulled it out of his hand. "This."
He handed her the ring and she puzzled over it a moment, then her eyes widened. "Oh!" She looked up at Yamato. "You made this?"
He nodded. "Um, it's just a mock up." He showed her what he'd explained to Kakashi.
"I think we should take it down tomorrow to see if they can be made before we leave." Kakashi said.
"Yeah, I don't know if any of the jewelers in Konoha could do this. It's beautiful. You really are an artist."
Yamato's face colored even more. "Now, you're laying it on thick." He said and reached for the ring, but she'd put it on her finger.
"I can't wait until we can really put it there." She sighed. "I wonder how long it'll take to put a wedding together." She flopped down on the bed.
The guys looked at each other and leaned together, looking down at her. "If it weren't for your mother, We'd take you tomorrow." Kakashi chuckled.
She grinned up at them. "I'd go tomorrow if she wouldn't kill me for it." She frowned. "But honestly, it's going to be enough of a shock that I'm going to have two husbands. And husbands that love each other, at that. However, I think I can manage to keep it from being too big or anything. And I flat refuse to wait long."
"Thank God." Yamato muttered.
Sakura grinned, then turned serious. "Where will we live?"
"I could build us a house. We just need space."
"The Hatake's actually have a plot of land. I just never lived there. For one thing, the house was never rebuilt after the Pein destruction and I…had no real wish to live there after my father died." Kakashi frowned.
"We don't have to live there." Yamato said. "I'm sure there are other places we can live."
"No, actually. I've rather made peace with that part of my life. I think it would be a good thing." He glanced at him. "Better save your chakra, though. It's a decent sized lot." He grinned.
Yamato rolled his eyes. "Well, how many bedrooms do we really need, though?" He said, already thinking through possible ways to build it.
"At least three." Sakura said and held her breath.
They both looked over at her. "Oh?"
She nodded. "Well, we'd need one decent sized one for us." They nodded slowly. She swallowed. "And, I'd hoped, one for each kid." She chewed on her lip.
Yamato's brain, of course, went straight to what he'd done the night before and it took a near Herculean effort to bring his mind back to the real conversation. "You want children?"
She nodded. "Yes. I never thought I'd be able to get married. I mean, ninja, you know?" When they nodded, she continued. "But, well, if I'm going to have a husband, or in this case husbands, then I would like a child. Or two." When they didn't say anything, she hurried to add, "but if you don't, that's okay. I don't really need them. I mean, I…" but Kakashi put a finger over her lips to stop the flow of words.
"We'd love them." Kakashi said with a smile. Then his lips twisted into a smirk, instead. "And it would go quite well with Yamato's new fetish."
"You had to bring that up." Yamato complained.
Sakura raised an eyebrow. "You have a fetish for children!??"
"NO! No." He glared at Kakashi. "No. But, um, as far as I know for you to be able to, um, help me with it you have to have at least one." By the time he finished speaking, his face was bright red.
Sakura stared at him a minute before it sunk in. "Oh. OH!" Her eyes widened. "Is that what you did last night?" He nodded, blushing even brighter. "One of the women did? Huh." She said, a thoughtful look on her face.
Yamato stared at her and when she didn't say anything, he couldn't stand it. "Sakura?"
"Hm?" She looked up, shaking her head.
"Um." He couldn't say anything. "Never mind."
"OH! Oh." She took his hand and couldn't hold in the chuckle. "Yamato." He finally looked up at her. "It's okay. But…" she blushed. "If I remember right, you might not have to wait for our kid to be born."
He raised an eyebrow. "Oh?"
She nodded. "Yeah. There's a medical technique that helps that along. It's intended to help mothers who don't produce enough. But, well, it would work for other things as well."
His eyebrow twitched. "Oh my."
"Let's, um, wait until this is all behind us? I'd hate to squirt some unsuspecting customer in the face." Yamato's face paled and Kakashi laughed.
"More and more bizarre." Yamato said.
