Chapter 4: Kakashi’s Test

Night of the Genin Entrance Exams day 2
It was the middle of the night the moon high in the night sky and Naruto was skulking through the basement of the Hokage Tower. He was geared up in his Genin gear of a black jacket with an orange stripe that binds around the wrist and runs up the sides of the sleeve, around the collar at the top and down the sides of his torso and around his waist. His pants were also black with an orange band around the waist and down the outsides of his legs to wind around his ankles with his two kunai and shuriken holsters, one on each leg and two pouches full of ninja tools attached to his back pockets. With his two katanas strapped to his back and his two hidden blade gauntlets fastened to his forearms he had a new pair of additions to his arsenal a pair of crescent daggers. The blades of the daggers curving backwards over the hilt, the two daggers were sheathed on his lower back. He also carried his black and orange backpack slung on his back.
In front of him was the entrance to the records room with its hidden vault. He quickly walked into the room shutting and locking the door behind him.
“Alright where is this vault.” He said to himself walking around the circular room stopping dead at a floor to roof shelf titled ‘Ninja Records’. Quickly grabbing the box titled ‘Academy’ and putting it on the floor. He sifted through the box coming to a manila folder with his academy profile.
“Let’s have a look shall we.” Naruto said as he unwound the cord that kept the files contained. Opening the folder he quickly scanned through contents. The first piece of paper was a redacted copy of his birth certificate; the second was a group of papers that was his Academy dossier with a large red GRADUATE stamped on it. He pulled out his birth certificate and was confused, almost everything written in it had been blacked out beyond his name and the day of his birth and the spot where his parents’ photos should have been was empty. The black lines went through the name of his mother, the name of his father, the names of his god parents, the black lines even went through the name of the midwife that delivered him.
“Where is the original it must be here somewhere.” Naruto fumed scanning the room.
“Be calm Naruto and think. It might be in the vault, if the copy is redacted it must mean the original is top secret.” Kurama explained trying to calm the now anxious boy.
“Okay so the vault should be behind that bookshelf and the blue book in the centre is the trigger to open the vault, the Scroll of Sealing should be directly across from the vault door.” Naruto said as he calmed himself and repeated Mizuki’s instructions. He walked up to the bookshelf and pulled the single blue book that was exactly right in the middle of the bookshelf. There was a grating sound as the bookshelf swung backwards creating an opening which Naruto walked through. He stepped into the vault and looked around. As Mizuki had described the scroll was on a pedestal directly across from the entranceway.
“Alright let’s find my dossier.” Naruto said trying to keep himself calm. He scanned the room his eyes falling on the bookshelf titled “Personnel Files”. ‘It must be there.’ He thought walking over to the shelf. He searched the shelf looking for his name, which he found on the second to bottom shelf.
“There Uzumaki. Huh what the? Mito Uzumaki, Kushina Uzumaki ah me Naruto Uzumaki.” He said surprised. He quickly grabbed all of the Uzumaki dossiers and placed them in the backpack he carried. He grabbed the large Scroll of Sealing and slung it over his back to let it rest against his lower back then he slung his backpack onto his back to rest atop the scroll before he walked back into the record room and closing the bookshelf closed behind him.
He exited the records room and stealthily snuck out of the building. Feeling the cool night breeze on his warm skin Naruto let out a small sigh as his body cooled after being in the warm stuffy basement. ‘Alright time to get to that building in the back hills where I’m supposed to meet up with Mizuki.’ He thought as he skulked from shadow to shadow until he was at the foot of the Hokage Mountain.

Less than ten minutes later Naruto was at the meeting point. “Alright time to have a look at this scroll.” He said to himself as he opened the scroll and looked at the first set of Jutsu. ‘Multi-Shadow Clone Jutsu, huh so they’re real clones not illusions could definitely come in handy and the Hiraishin, that’s the Fourth’s Jutsu.’ He thought as he began to look through the other Jutsu inscribed within the scroll.
“Damn, I won’t be able to learn any of these in just one night, Fuck.” He swore as he returned to the first Jutsu. “Alright might as well get started.” He said as he began to practice the Multi-Shadow Clone Jutsu.
Half an hour later he had mastered it, he could produce up to five hundred clones and he knew he could create more if the Jutsu was triggered by a strong emotion. He decided to sit and rest against the wooden wall and have a look at his dossier as he rested. Opening his bag he fetched the folder with his name on it. Opening it he pulled out the first piece of paper in the folder, which was his birth certificate. This paper had no black lines on it and had no flaws. Naruto was almost scared to look at the paper but he knew he would never forgive himself if he didn’t read it.
“Naruto Uzumaki. Born: October 10.”
“Mother: Kushina Uzumaki. Birth Date: July 10. Ninja Registration Number: 007310.” Naruto whispered as he looked at the picture of a beautiful red haired Kunoichi.
“Father: Minato Namikaze. Birth Date: January 25. Ninja Registration: 006510.” Naruto said as some awe began to creep into his voice as he looked at the picture of the man that was his father. He knew exactly who Minato Namikaze was, he knew his father was the Fourth Hokage.
“How dare they keep this from me? Does everybody know that I’m the son of the Fourth Hokage and that they knowingly kept this from me?” he shouted angrily. “Kurama did you know who my parents were?” he asked his vulpine tenant.
“Yes I knew who your parents were.” He replied cautiously he wasn’t sure how Naruto would react.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Naruto asked feeling more hurt in these last few minutes than at any time in the last twelve years.
“You never asked and it never came up.” Kurama said truthfully, in the last two years the young boy had really grown on him.
Naruto returned to reading his birth certificate. “Godparent 1: Jiraiya. Birth Date: November 11. Ninja Registration: 002301.”
“Godparent 2: Tsunade Senju. Birth Date: August 2. Ninja Registration: 002302.”
  “Midwife: Biwako Sarutobi.”
“So my father was the Fourth Hokage and my godparents are two of the legendary Sannin.” Naruto grumbled angrily as he returned his birth certificate to his dossier before closing it and placing it in his backpack.
“Well at least I now have the first stage of my plans for revenge.” Naruto said to the cool night air.
“And what’s that Naruto?” Kurama asked his curiosity piqued.
“I’m going to grow my hair out so that it matches my father’s, we’ll see how many villagers take notice and how many will react beyond that well I’ll also learn my father’s Jutsus the Hiraishin and the Rasengan.” Naruto explained the first few steps of his plan as he grabbed the Scroll of Sealing opening it to the Hiraishin formula which was sealed.
“Hey, Kurama do you know what seal this is?” Naruto asked.
“It’s a Blood Seal. You need the blood of the person who sealed it or be a blood relative.” Kurama replied while trying to think of a way to unseal the Hiraishin formula.
“Well since my father was the last person to use it maybe he sealed it.” Naruto said trying to calm the surprisingly nervous Kurama.
“And if he didn’t? This seal could kill us or destroy the formula.” Kurama warned the determined boy.
“Well we really don’t have a choice if this plan is to work I need this formula.” Naruto said allowing the hidden blade of his right gauntlet to spring free. He cut his left index finger allowing drops of his blood to splash onto the seal which soon began to glow red. He followed Kurama’s instructions and soon had broken and removed the seal allowing them to clearly see the formula before them.
“Huh a bit complicated.” Naruto said as he tried to wrap his head around the more difficult parts of the formula.
“Of course it is it was created by the Second Hokage. But quickly let’s copy the formula and the instructions.” Kurama said as he memorised everything written in front of Naruto making a perfect copy of the scroll inside his cage.
Just as they finished and had re-rolled the scroll Naruto heard a familiar voice yell his name. Looking up he could see Iruka standing with his hands on his hips. Naruto could feel the anger and frustration absolutely pouring off of the academy instructor.
“What the hell are you doing? NARUTO!” He yelled.
“I know it’s supposed to be a secret but Mizuki sensei said that if anyone learns a Jutsu from this scroll they automatically graduate right?” Naruto said in his most innocent voice.
The surprise on Iruka’s face confirmed for Naruto that Mizuki had tried to use him and get him killed. Then he recognised a chakra that he recognised as Mizuki’s.
Mizuki landed on a branch behind Iruka and watched him confront Naruto.
“He’s lying to you Naruto. They all are, everybody has been keeping secrets from you, ever since the decree twelve years ago.” Mizuki crowed as he envisioned Naruto going on a rampage as his world was shattered by the truth.
“W…what, what decree?” Naruto asked playing along with the drama unfolding before him.
“Don’t tell him Mizuki, it is forbidden.” Iruka shouted.
“The decree is that nobody could tell you or even talk about the Nine Tails fox. The demon that killed Iruka’s parents and almost destroyed the village is inside you. You are the Nine Tails fox Naruto.” Mizuki shouted insanely.
“Shut up Mizuki. It’s not true Naruto.” Iruka shouted as he turned towards Naruto.
“Don’t be deceived Naruto look at him he can barely look at you. Like everybody else he just thinks you are a beast like that demon inside of you.” Mizuki cackled the pitch of his voice getting higher and higher the longer he cackled.
Naruto put his hands behind his back grabbing the hilts of his two crescent daggers. He sprang forward towards a surprised Mizuki who was choking on his cackles. Naruto slashed open the chest of Mizuki’s armour with his left hand. He leaned in close to the surprised Mizuki’s ear and whispered “I know everything about me and Kurama.” Before driving the blade in his right hand through Mizuki’s spinal cord at the back of his neck.
Whipping the blade from Mizuki’s neck Naruto sheathed them in the plain leather scabbards before he stepped off the tree branch and fell to the floor easily landing with bended knees.
“So what now Iruka sensei?” Naruto asked as he walked up to the pale Chunin instructor.
“Oh right, give me the scroll Naruto you passed the exam. When Taki reported that Mizuki and Hiro were scheming to have a student steal something from the vault the Third, Taki and myself went to the graduation ceremony to see which student had been chosen. Well we were surprised to see it was you who left with Mizuki, especially when Taki vouched that you had graduated in the top three of the class.” Iruka explained.
“You mean I’ve been tricked? Well what now do I still graduate?” Naruto asked still playing the innocent child, even though Iruka had just watched him kill a Chunin in cold blood.
“I don’t know let’s go see the Third and see what he says, shall we.” Iruka said side stepping the question.
“Ok.” Naruto muttered he knew Iruka had side stepped the question but he couldn’t sense any duplicity from Iruka.

Naruto followed Iruka who was carrying Mizuki’s corpse to the courtyard of the Hokage Manor where the Third was waiting with a purple haired and a silver haired pair of ANBU’s. Iruka and Naruto walked up to the Hokage where Iruka dumped the body of Mizuki and presented the scroll to the Hokage after receiving it from Naruto.
“Lord Hokage.” Iruka and Naruto bowed. “Mizuki was indeed behind the theft of the scroll.” Iruka reported.
“Excellent work Iruka.” The Hokage said before turning to Naruto who fought hard not to take a step back.
“And you Naruto, Well done and congratulations for passing your entrance exams. This is for you.“ He said holding out his hand. In his open hand was a leaf headband. Naruto reached out and took it again bowing to the Hokage as he tied it around his forehead.
“Oh, before I forget Kakashi you can remove your mask now.” As Kakashi began taking off his white dog mask the Third continued talking to Naruto. “Naruto this Is Kakashi Hatake he shall be your Jonin Squad Leader from tonight onwards.”
“Kakashi sensei.” Naruto said as he bowed to the silver haired Jonin before turning away and walked towards his apartment. Once out of eyesight he broke out into a run as he sprinted for home.
He reached his apartment five minutes later and quickly went inside locking the door behind him. Walking into his bedroom he placed his backpack and two tool pouches on the bed before pulling off his two katanas, his two crescent daggers, his two kunai holsters and his hidden blade gauntlets and dropping them on the floor next to the bed. Curling up on the bed Naruto finally let sleep claim his emotionally drained body and mind.

The sun had already risen in the eastern sky when Naruto woke up still in his clothes from the night before and his newly acquired leaf headband tied to his forehead.
‘Uh better go to the academy and see who I’ve been teamed with.’ Naruto thought as he yawned loudly. Getting up he headed for the bathroom and a hot shower to wash away the freshly opened emotional wounds of the night before. Standing under the stream of hot water Naruto let his body relax and rested his forehead against the cold tiles.
“Naruto?” Kurama asked slipping into Naruto’s conscious mind.
“Just shut up Kurama… just leave me alone.” Naruto said autonomously his voice dull and emotionless still emotionally drained from the day before. Turning off the water and stepping out of the shower and wrapped a tool around his waist and just stood staring into the mirror above the sink not really seeing his reflection.
He was still standing that way almost an hour later goosebumps all over his body from the cool breeze that came in through the slightly opened frosted glass window. He got dressed in a second pair of clothes identical to those he wore the night before and walked into his bedroom grabbing his gear and putting them on before grabbing his two pouches of tools and clipping them to the pockets at the back of his pants. Grabbing his bag he walked over to the front door, grabbing his keys he opened and walked out of his apartment locking the door behind him and placing the keys in his pocket he walked off towards the academy not really caring that he was already fifteen minutes late.
Twenty minutes later he walked into the classroom and emotionlessly sat in the only vacant chair at the back of the classroom. Iruka seeing Naruto’s emotionless expression and dull eyes didn’t say anything about his tardiness thinking that killing Mizuki was haunting him. He had no idea about the truth. Many of the other students were stunned looking at Naruto in his full Genin gear many of those that had belittled Naruto in the past were feeling quite fearful of the dead-eyed and emotionless Naruto before them, some of the girls were aroused at this sight of Naruto.
“Ok now that all the graduating students are here it’s time to find out which squad you will be a part of.” Iruka proclaimed waving a scroll in front of his body. Naruto paid no attention to the first six squads until he heard squad seven.
“Squad Seven under the command of Kakashi Hatake… Naruto Uzumaki… Sakura Haruno…” Naruto heard a groan come from the pink haired girl and if he had been in the mood he would have thrown a shuriken at her. “And Sasuke Uchiha…” continued Iruka as Sakura gave a small shout of joy as Iruka read Sasuke’s name and a small sigh came from Hinata next to him.
“Squad Eight under the command of Kurenai Yuhi will be Kiba Inuzuka, Hinata Hyuga and Shino Aburame.” Iruka continued looking up at the still and emotionless Naruto.
“Since Squad Nine is still active we’ll move on to Squad Ten which will be commanded by Asuma Sarutobi. The members of Squad Ten are Choji Akimichi, Ino Yamanaka and Shikamaru Nara.”
“Congratulations you are all now fully fledged shinobi of Konoha. Later this afternoon your Jonin team leaders will meet you here… so again congratulations and good luck.” Iruka said before walking out the door. Naruto was unaware of people leaving the room or of their return two and a half hours later as he sat staring at the blackboards on the other side of the classroom.
  Soon the Jonin squad leaders arrived and took their new team members away until the only remaining people were those of Squad Seven. As the minutes ticked by and five minutes became ten minutes which then became half an hour Sakura began to lose her patience and began to pace and grumble about their late leader. After an hour all of Sakura’s patience was completely evaporated and she quickly began to rage about the extremely late Kakashi. After five minutes of Sakura’s tantrum which was focused more and more to the still as a statue Naruto, he finally had enough.
  “Will you SHUT UP?” Naruto shouted at Sakura who looked at Naruto in surprise. “Kakashi sensei has been watching us for the past half an hour. We’re probably being tested right now so just calm down and FUCKING wait.” Naruto growled with a roll of his eyes.
Just then the door slid open and a silver haired ninja stuck his head in. “Hey guys, uh sorry I’m late.” He said looking between the emotionless Naruto, the bored Sasuke and the shocked and agitated Sakura. “If you guys are ready follow me and we’ll get under way.” He said leading the way out of the classroom. Sakura and Sasuke quickly followed Kakashi out of the room while Naruto slowly took his time following after them up to the roof.
When he got to the roof the other three were already sitting down and waiting for him.
“Took your sweet time didn’t you. Hurry up next time.” Sasuke huffed while Sakura giggled slightly at Sasuke’s comment.
“Shut up before I kill you.” Naruto said grabbing for a katana with his right hand before walking away from the group to sit alone on the top step facing their new commander and sensei.
Kakashi sighed as he looked between the three teens. “All right let’s get started and introduce ourselves and get to know each other a little better. I will go first, I’m Kakashi Hatake I like things, I dislike somethings and that’s about it, Next.” Kakashi said his smile hidden behind his mask.
Naruto paid no attention to Kakashi, Sakura and Sasuke as they spoke just staring at the floor in front of him. “Naruto, Naruto, Naruto… NARUTO!” hearing his name Naruto’s head snapped up and he looked at Kakashi. “Yes, Kakashi Sensei.”
“Introduce yourself; tell us something about you that we don’t know.” Kakashi said watching him closely.
“Oh, ok well I’m Naruto Uzumaki I was born on the night of the Nine Tails attack 12 years ago. Um what else should I say?” he said looking directly at Kakashi as he sensed the surprise that Kakashi felt at that little titbit of information.
“Any likes or dislikes any dreams for the future.” Kakashi replied.
“Well I like nothing except ramen, and I hate everything and dreams for the future I have no dreams.” He said looking straight ahead but not actually seeing anything.
“Uh ok then, I have our first mission for tomorrow morning at training ground seven. Be there at 7 o’clock in the morning and you might not want to eat breakfast that morning. Dismissed” Kakashi said before vanishing in a cloud of smoke.
Naruto continued to sit in his spot as both Sasuke and Sakura left with the black haired boy being pestered by the pink haired Kunoichi. “What do you think this mission is Kurama?” he asked the fox spirit.
“Well whatever the mission is you better have breakfast tomorrow morning.” Kurama replied.
“Time to go home then and prepare.” Naruto said getting up and slowly made his way out of the academy building. He was almost home when he literally bumped into Hinata and Squad Eight.
“Uh sorry Hinata I wasn’t watching were I was going.” Naruto said softly apologising.
“Well, well look what the cat dragged in.” Kiba crowed at the top of his lungs. “What your squad leader ditch you or something?” Kiba continued.
“No we were dismissed to prep for our mission tomorrow. Why what are you guys up to?” Naruto replied asking a question himself.
“We’re on a team building exercise, which you are interrupting.” Shino answered in his usually dour expression.
“Oh, I’m sooooo sorry for interrupting your training Shino.” Naruto drawled before side stepping the group and continuing on his way home.
Entering his apartment he quickly took off his weapons and gear placing them on the kitchen table. Along with his backpack, his two tool pouches and his kunai and shuriken holsters. He grabbed a cup of instant ramen and switched on the kettle.
‘Well I’ll prep later tonight but what to do now.’ Naruto thought waiting for the water to boil.
“What about practicing the Hiraishin formula the sooner we start the sooner you will learn it.” Kurama interjected.
“Okay that sounds like a good idea we’ll start after a ramen break.” Naruto replied grinning while nodding his head sagely.

Naruto awoke to his ringing alarm clock. Sitting up in bed he looked out the window next to his bed the cool pre-dawn breeze blowing in his face. Stretching his arms and getting out of bed he made his way to the kitchen to start breakfast. Soon he was sitting down to a breakfast of bacon and eggs on toast with a carton of fruit juice.
Finishing breakfast Naruto showered and dressed and was soon standing in the living room doing a once over of his weapons and tools as the sun began to rise over the eastern horizon. Pulling on his weapons and gear Naruto was soon walking through his front door locking it behind him as he headed towards the training ground Kakashi had said they were to meet for today’s mission.
Again he was the first person to arrive at the three log stumps that they were supposed to meet. Sitting down with his back to the middle log and placing his bag by his side and laying his two katanas across his legs. He rested his head against the wood and looked up into the heavens watching the clouds drift across the lightening sky.
The next person to arrive was Sasuke about fifteen minutes after Naruto arrived. Sniff, sniff ‘I wonder if he realised he’s being followed.’ Naruto thought as he caught Sakura’s scent and soon the pink haired Kunoichi walked over to her two teammates following in Sasuke’s footsteps.
“So what do you guys think this mission is?” Sakura asked the two boys.
“No idea, there is no point worrying about it.” Naruto answered not even bothering to look at his teammates.
“Where’s Kakashi sensei he is already fifteen minutes late? Don’t tell me he’s gonna make us wait again.” Sakura groaned looking at the fully risen sun.
Almost three hours later they were still waiting for Kakashi to arrive.
“I can sense your chakra Kakashi, come on out.” Naruto said getting to his feet from his sitting position.
In a swirl of leaves the silver haired Kakashi appeared in the standard leaf Jonin vest, most of his face covered by a dark blue mask all except his right eye.
“You’re late again Kakashi sensei.” Sakura said standing in front of their Jonin leader with her hands on her hips.
“Uh sorry I had a few Jonin things to do this morning.” He replied rubbing the back of his head with his left hand. Naruto snorted trying to hide his laughter. Kakashi looked at Naruto before pulling two bells from his pocket. “This is your mission for today to retrieve these bells from me.” Kakashi said holding the bells out in front of him to be seen.
“But there are only two of them and three of us.” Sakura said looking at the bells and at her teammates.
“Correct, which means?” Kakashi asked
“That one of us is bound to fail.” Sasuke said.
“That’s right one of you or maybe all of you could fail this test and be sent back to the academy.” Kakashi said looking between the three Genins. Looking at each of the Genin before him he saw fear and worry in Sakura, determination on the face of Sasuke and he was surprised to find Naruto expressionless.
“But that’s not fair. We worked hard to pass the Genin exams.” Sakura yelled in protest.
“That’s right you passed the entrance exam this is the real test to see if you are ready to be fully fledged ninja of Konoha.” Kakashi answered trying hard not to roll his eyes before continuing. “As I said for this test you’ll have to retrieve these bells from me within a two hour period, if not you go without lunch and then try again to take these bells before sundown and if you’re not willing to kill me you will never retrieve these bells.” Kakashi instructed as he set an alarm clock on the middle stump and set it to 12:30 before walking back to face the three Genins.
The three Genins readied themselves as Kakashi continued. “Ready.”
Naruto burst into action drawing three shuriken in each hand and throwing them straight at Kakashi. All six striking Kakashi’s heart before he burst into smoke. Naruto swung to the left ready to attack again but stopped when he realised Kakashi hadn’t moved from the branch he was standing on.
“I didn’t say start yet.” Kakashi joked lightly somewhat impressed with Naruto’s action. “Start.”
As Sasuke and Sakura jumped away from the area Naruto drew his two katanas and raced towards a confident Kakashi. He sprinted under the tree that Kakashi was standing on and ran up the trunk of a tree behind Kakashi and launched himself at the back of Kakashi.
The clash of steel on steel rang throughout the training field as Kakashi parried and blocked every one of Naruto’s strikes. Again and again Naruto launched himself at Kakashi with a series of slashes, cuts, thrusts and twirling blades.
“You’re doing very well Naruto but you need more training to beat me in a straight up fight.” Kakashi said as he blocked a backhand slash and grabbed Naruto by the front of his shirt and with a chakra enhanced throw he threw Naruto towards the river that ran through the centre of the training field. Naruto crashed into the grassy bank of the river losing a hold of the katana in his left hand before bouncing into the clear water of the river.
‘Let’s see how he likes this.’ He thought grabbing another six shuriken from his pouches. He threw the shuriken at Kakashi who was standing on the riverside. Kakashi parried all six shuriken and stood in a defensive position waiting for Naruto to attack.
However Naruto wasn’t going to attack he was quickly swimming downstream away from Kakashi. ‘Well at least he isn’t following, time to find these so called teammates and see what they are made of.’ Naruto thought as he continued to swim downstream until he was far enough away to walk up onto the stony bank and quickly dash for the cover of the surrounding forest.

Hiding in a nearby tree Sasuke had watched the combat between Naruto and Kakashi. ‘He couldn’t have improved that much since the combat exams or was he hiding how good he was? He can’t be that good it must be a fluke, I’m the best Genin there is.’ He angrily thought to himself as he watched Kakashi throw Naruto into the river and dodge the shuriken Naruto had thrown from under the water’s surface.
Below where Sasuke was hiding Sakura was hiding under a bush and had also watched Naruto and Kakashi fight. ‘WOW, who knew that boy could fight like that.’ Sakura thought as an unknown desire began to chip its way into her body and mind.
Standing in the middle of the clearing Kakashi looked around him waiting for another attack from Naruto. ‘He’s talented I’ll give him that, if he had proper training with those blades he defiantly could have killed me.’ He thought as he lowered his guard and began to search the area for any clue of his three Genin.
‘At least they got the basics down for cover but does she really think she is going to fool anybody by hiding under that bush with her pink hair and knowing her obsessive attraction to Sasuke he must be somewhere nearby also.’ Kakashi thought as he rested against the centre of the three posts looking around where Sakura was hiding without looking directly at her. ‘Come on Sasuke where are you hiding? Ah there you are.’ He thought pulling a book out of the pouch attached to his back pocket. ‘Alright Naruto what’s your next move?’
Unknown to the others Naruto was planning his next moves with Kurama as he silently moved from tree branch to tree branch.
“So this is a test Naruto?” Kurama asked as Naruto began formulating his plans on how best to take the two bells from Kakashi.
“Yeah it was something I found weird in Kakashi’s explanation of one person failing the test and being sent back to the Academy. It is basic knowledge taught in the Academy that most ninja squads are made up of a four man team.” Naruto said planning ahead for the next fight with Kakashi.
“So if one person fails the test you would have an irregular three man squad which wouldn’t be able to go on regular missions. So the test is all about teamwork, he wants to see if you can work as a team to get the bells.” Kurama said finishing Naruto’s thought.
“I don’t think he expects us to get the bells on the first attempt, I think he just wants to see if we can work as a team and if we are worth being taught by a former Black Ops member.” Naruto corrected as he finally prepared for his next fight with Kakashi.
Crossing his two middle and index fingers in front of him Naruto built up his chakra and called out. “Shadow Clone Jutsu.” In a puff of smoke two identical clones of Naruto were standing in front of the original. “You understand the plan right.” The original asked the two clones who nodded their heads. “We’re ready boss; just give us the go ahead.”
“Good get going then and make it convincing you know.” The original said jumping up onto a branch. He watched as the two clones ran towards the clearing where Kakashi was standing. ‘Time to find these idiot teammates hopefully they aren’t too far away.’ Naruto thought as he took off on a roundabout way towards the same clearing the clones were heading towards.

Naruto could hear the sounds of battle as he approached the clearing where his clones were engaged with Kakashi, his original two clones were already dispelled.
He quietly landed behind the concealed form of Sakura before placing his hand over her mouth to prevent her screaming. “Shush, Sakura come on we gotta come up with a plan to take those bells.” Naruto whispered in the pink haired girl’s right ear while slowly removing his hand from her mouth.
Standing back up Naruto looked around as he searched for Sasuke. Locating the Uchiha by scent he quickly jumped up into the same tree that Sasuke was hiding in eventually making up onto the same branch as the Uchiha. “Hey Sasuke, come on let’s go we have to make a plan to get those bells.” Naruto said as he stood beside the Uchiha. Turning away from the Uchiha and readying himself to lead his teammates away to a hidden area he barely caught Sasuke’s words. “I don’t need you losers to take those bells. None of you are in my leag…” Sasuke remarked before the blade of Naruto’s katana was slowly pressing harder and harder into his neck.
“I will only tell you this once Sasuke you fuck wit. Do not fuck with me because I will fucking kill you right now.” Naruto growled digging the blade into Sasuke’s neck to emphasise his point. “Now fucking move it so I can tell you what’s fucking going on.” Naruto said removing and sheathing his katana before grabbing Sasuke’s collar and dragging him along as he stepped off of the branch and fell to the floor below landing softly and allowing Sasuke to crash onto the forest floor.
“Watch it you Idiot.” Sakura almost shouted before clamping her hand over her mouth as Naruto’s hand went towards his katana. She had seen what Naruto had done and said to Sasuke as she looked to the blood that oozed from the small cut on Sasuke’s neck.
“Now let’s move further into the trees so that I can tell you about the test.” Naruto said leading the way further and further into the forest.
A few hundred metres away Naruto stopped and turned to watch his two teammates stop in front of him.
“So first off did any of you notice anything weird about Kakashi sensei’s explanation of the test?” Naruto asked looking back and forth between his two teammates’ faces. “You didn’t did you? What you don’t remember our lessons on team tactics and structures?” Naruto sighed shaking his head and thinking. ‘The supposedly smartest girl in class and the top ranked Genin this year, yeah right.’
“Think about it the test is a test of teamwork, the two bells are designed to put a strain on the team. Besides Kakashi sensei can’t fail just one of us then we wouldn’t have a regulation squad so the aim of the test is to see if we can work as a team to take the bells, though I don’t think Kakashi expects us to take the bells on our first try and we only have an hour till lunch. Damn”

As the three Genin were talking Kakashi was finishing off the last of Naruto’s clones. ‘Well, well that was all a distraction, what are you planning Naruto?’ Kakashi thought as he scanned the forest around him. ‘So that’s your plan, you’ve figured out the test then.’
Suddenly three Naruto clones were bursting out of different forms of cover one was leaping high into the sky, while a second and third were running directly at Kakashi from different directions.
Kakashi was ready for the two charging clones. Grabbing their wrists he spun and with the already considerable momentum of the two clones he was able to throw the clones into the nearest tree trunks causing the clones to burst into smoke as they dispelled.
The third clone landed behind Kakashi and kicked out at his knees. Kakashi dodged the kick and the follow-through with a backflip and handspring only to find Naruto’s katana aimed at his throat. As the katana landed Kakashi’s body burst into smoke as his clone was dispelled.
“Fuck, a shadow clone. Where is the real one?” Naruto growled. ‘I can’t sense his chakra and I can’t smell him.’ Naruto thought as he slowed his breathing and began to think. ‘I can’t sense his chakra or smell him. The ground he’s below me’ Naruto jumped into the air as the ground beneath where he had been standing exploded as Kakashi jumped after Naruto.
“Now.” Naruto shouted as he fended off Kakashi’s attacks before producing one hundred clones. From the surrounding trees almost a hundred kunais with chains attached to them were thrown towards the two combatants. As Kakashi dodged and blocked the kunai directly aimed at him the clones quickly went to work redirecting the kunai at Kakashi forming a chain net surrounding him. Instead of Kakashi’s chain wrapped body hitting the ground was a chain wrapped log.
“Did we get him?” Sakura asked running out into the open.
“Sakura Fucking stay hidden.” Naruto yelled from his perch upon the chain wrapped log. ‘Too late.’ Kakashi dropped behind Sakura pinning her arms and holding a kunai to her throat.
“What’s your next move Naruto, Sasuke?” Kakashi yelled not knowing if Sasuke was close or not.
“Sharingan.” Sasuke whispered high in a tree directly behind Kakashi. He quickly scanned the clearing below him before slipping of the branch he was standing on and landing quietly on the ground. Drawing two shuriken from the pouch behind him he threw them at Kakashi’s shoulders as two Naruto clones burst out from beneath ground. Both Naruto clones grabbed one of Kakashi’s wrists each. Just as the clones grabbed his wrists Kakashi jumped into a handstand using the two clones as his base and pulled them together as a shield for Sakura from Sasuke’s two shuriken.
Just as the two clones dispelled from the shuriken impact the alarm Kakashi had set at the beginning of the test rang out.
“Well it looks like you failed to get the bells before noon.” Kakashi said smugly looking between the three Genin.
“You better check the ground by Sakura Kakashi sensei.” Naruto said nodding his head in Sakura’s direction.
“What am I supposed to be looking for Naruto?” Kakashi asked the spikey haired blonde.
“Show him Sakura.” Naruto said with a smug grin. With an ever widening grin Sakura held out her right hand the two bells swung down to clink together.
“What the? Well done, you guys pass you are now officially full-fledged shinobi of Konoha.” Kakashi said holding his hand out for the two bells, which Sakura returned with a huge smile on her face.
“Follow me.” Kakashi said leading the way back to the village with Sakura and Sasuke falling in line while Naruto quickly created a clone to retrieve his lost katana.
Soon they were back in the Academy where Kakashi reported the successful passing of Squad Seven and to retrieve their personalised Ninja Registration Forms for the Genin to verify. Sitting down where their original meeting was on the Academy roof Kakashi handed each form to the three Genin to verify.
“First of all right now you only have to have a picture taken and place it on the form and secondly just verify that most of the information on that form is correct. When your satisfied with the form just take it to the Hokage before the end of the week so we can start taking missions next week.”

Three days later Naruto was sitting before the Hokage in his full Genin gear as he handed in his Ninja Registration Form. ‘How long is this gonna take? I’ve been here for almost an hour.’ Naruto thought looking straight at the Hokage.
‘What’s the boy thinking growing his hair and having that fringe? He looks so much like his father.’ The Hokage thought looking from the Registration Form in his hand to Naruto sitting in front of him.
“Your Registration Form is accepted Naruto.” The Hokage said just as the door opened and a young boy came running into the room with shuriken in hand and yelling a challenge to the Hokage.
‘What the fuck is this?’ Naruto thought as he watched the boy trip and face plant on his stupidly long blue scarf.
“What the hell did you trip me for?” The young boy yelled at Naruto who quickly grabbed the boy by his scarf.
“I didn’t touch you so watch who you accuse brat.” Naruto growled in his face, his fist raised back ready to strike.
Then a head with small shades over his eyes popped into the room and looked around the room before falling on the small boy and bigger Genin.
“Honourable grandson, what are you doing? You take your hands off of the Hokage’s grandson.” The newcomer said in that superior tone that pissed Naruto off every time he heard it.
“Thought you were gonna hit me tough guy. What you another coward that won’t hit me because I’m the Hokage’s grandson.” The young boy jeered in Naruto’s face.
“I wouldn’t care if he was your mother.” Naruto yelled punching the boy in the face before dropping him. The boy landed on the carpeted floor with a thud and a grunt.
“If we’re all done here old man I’ll see you later.” Naruto said walking out the door resisting the urge to slash open the throat of the sneering shade wearing man. He didn’t see the look of admiration on the face of the barely conscious young boy.

And if anybody was wondering why i didn't use a specific fruit juice like orage or apple juice well i left it open so the reader can choose whatever juice they prefer and i absolutely hate orange juice.
