“Sasuke-kun!”
Sasuke sighed and stopped, waiting for the red blur that was sure to glomp him.
“Sasuke-kun, I’ve missed you!”
“Karin…” Sasuke didn’t make a move to break away from the girl that was hugging him as if her life depended on it – he was quite used to it by now. “Karin, where are Jugo and Suigetsu?”
“Jugo is coming, and Suigetsu…” Sasuke felt Karin’s grip on him tighten in what he knew was anger – Karin and Suigetsu’s hate for each other was no secret.
“Karin, calm down.” Sasuke thanked his lucky stars for giving him the patience to deal with the slightly older girl.
“Sorry, Sasuke-kun!” Karin broke away quickly, a large blush on her face. “Sometimes I just get so pissed off with that dickhead, and –“
“Who are you calling a dickhead, you bitch?”
Sasuke rested his face in his hand, feeling like shouting as he stared at the two new-comers. Why did Suigetsu and Karin always have to fight at the worst moments – no, scratch that – every second that they were near each other…
“I’ll show you a bitch, you fucking asshole!” Karin shouted.
Sasuke easily blocked the voices out as he stepped closer to Jugo. “Why can’t they be more like you…?”
The orange-haired male smiled softly at Sasuke and reached out, petting the spiky black hair. “But then the school wouldn’t have their entertainment.”
Sasuke couldn’t help but smirk. He liked Jugo. Jugo was always quiet and thoughtful – the complete opposite of both Suigetsu and Karin.
Suigetsu was loud and always causing problems for everyone, whereas Karin was loud but in a much more embarrassing manner – always screaming about how much she loved Sasuke and clinging to him like a lifeline.
Jugo, however, was content to just sit back and listen to everything anyone had to say. He was more of a listener than a talker, always taking in everything around him.
“You stupid moron!”
Sasuke looked up at the eighteen-year-old, frustrated with his friends. Sometimes he really wished that he had never moved from his old town because he missed Naruto and Sakura and everyone else.
“Shut up, you ugly bitch!”
“Sasuke, shall we go elsewhere and leave them to fight?” Jugo asked, taking note of Sasuke’s frustration.
The Uchiha nodded. “Please, Jugo.”
The two begun walking away, leaving the bickering pair alone.
“Sasuke, are you still upset about your brother?” Jugo asked softly, remembering all that the younger boy had confided in him.
Sasuke nodded. “Yes... Madara-oji-san was really worried about him today…”
“I’m sure that he’ll be fine, Sasuke. Your uncle is a good man and wouldn’t let anything happen to Itachi-san if he knew that he could prevent it.”
Sasuke nodded, knowing that Jugo was right. “Yeah… Thanks, Jugo… I know that I can always talk to you about anything…”
“You’re welcome, Sasuke.”
The two males sat down on a bench, watching their friends fighting from a distance. As expected, a crowd had surrounded the two, knowing that physical fights were something of a daily occurrence between Karin and Suigetsu.
“I don’t understand why they hate each other…” Jugo’s soft voice said.
Sasuke shrugged. “Dunno…”
It was silent for only a few more moments until an announcement from the P.A caught their attention.
“Sasuke Uchiha, please make your way to the front office with your bag immediately.”
Sasuke frowned and looked at Jugo, worry for his brother eating him up instantly. “Jugo…”
“Go, Sasuke.” Jugo advised. “Madara-san wouldn’t pull you out of school unless it was urgent.”
Sasuke nodded. He hurried to his locker, shoving all of his homework into his bag before jogging over to the front office.
Sasuke’s worry only grew when he found his uncle sitting in the tiny waiting area, crying his heart out into his hands.
“Madara-oji-san!” Sasuke cried, running to his uncle. “Oji-san, what happened?!”
It took several minutes before Madara could form a coherent sentence, but Sasuke knew, deep down, that Itachi was hurt.

An hour later found Madara and Sasuke finally pulling into the hospital’s car-park. It had been a hard drive for Madara – unable to stop crying and thinking about Itachi and not able to focus on the road.
But now, as they climbed out of the car and hurried into the hospital, Madara could only imagine what state they would find Itachi in.
“Oji-san…” Sasuke said softly, grabbing his uncle’s hand and holding it. “…Stop thinking… Just stop thinking… I’m scared, too, but... I’m sure Ita-nii wouldn’t like to know that you were so upset…”
“Sasuke, I…” Madara couldn’t finish his sentence.
Sasuke hugged his uncle, hating to see the man so distraught. He knew that there was nothing that he could do to make his uncle feel better, and it broke his heart.

A half-hour had passed by quickly, and Madara and Sasuke were still where they had stopped when Madara broke down once again.
The oldest Uchiha was just beginning to calm down and he stood back up, attempting to walk the rest of the distance to his nephew’s room.
Sasuke stayed close beside him, trying to give Madara that little bit of comfort that he so desperately needed right now.
The walk was a short one, having already made it most of the way. The two Uchiha soon found themselves sitting around Itachi’s bed, crying.
Itachi had never been like this before. He was unconscious and hooked up to many drips and machines.
Madara found it too hard to be in the room. He jumped out of his seat, turning to face Sasuke with his tear-stained face.
“I need to t-tell Izuna…” Madara sobbed, wiping at his eyes. “H-he needs to know…”
Sasuke bit his lip. He expected Izuna to be angry -- the last time that Itachi had tried to take his life, Izuna had been very angry.
“No!” Sasuke cried, getting to his own feet and running to his uncle, hugging him tightly. “Please, don’t! Izuna-oji-san will be angry!”
Madara knelt down and took Sasuke into his arms. “No, he won’t, Sasuke-kun… The last time this had happened, I know that Izuna was angry, but… he was so scared and upset at first that he couldn’t stop crying… When we were told that Itachi would be fine, Izuna was just upset because Itachi had smashed the car Izuna had bought him on purpose… It really hurt Izuna’s feelings, Sasuke…”
Sasuke wiped at his own tears. “So… he won’t be angry this time…?”
“No, Sasuke-kun – of course not.” Madara whispered. “Now let me go outside so that I can call him.”
Sasuke nodded and reluctantly let go, returning back to his brother’s side.
Madara was silent as he walked down the winding hallways of the hospital and to the outside world. He found a bench-seat just by the front doors and sat down, pulling his phone out. He dialled his brother’s number before putting the device to his ear and waiting impatiently for his brother to pick up.
“Hey, aniki!”
Madara jumped at Izuna’s voice over the other line.
“What’s up?!”
“…Izuna…” Madara whispered, tearing up once again. “…Izuna, I need you to come back…”
“…What…?” Izuna sounded startled. “…Why…? I’m… I’m actually having fun, aniki…”
“I know that you are, Izuna, and I’m so sorry, but…” Madara choked on a few sobs. “…Itachi-kun…”
“…” The only noises from the other end of the line were loud sobs. “…I-I’m coming home, aniki…”
“Okay…” Madara whispered again. “I love you…”
“Love you, too, aniki…”
With that, Izuna had hung up, and Madara felt himself being overcome by the agony of having almost lost his beloved nephew once again.
