"We will find her." Shikamaru said quietly. "Kiba, I want you and Akamaru to return to the village. Tell Lady Tsunade what has happened and request additional assistance. If she can't spare the man power, go to the Hyuuga clan and tell them. They will send help, right Neji?"
"Of course they will." Neji spat, running a hand through his hair. "Her father will send the entire clan, if necessary."
"Good. Naruto, send out your clones and have them continue searching. Everyone needs a little rest." Shikamaru concluded.
"What?! No way, I'm going to keep searching!" Naruto roared, slamming his fist to his chest.
"And what? Collapse in the middle of the forest because you haven't eaten or slept all day or night?" the team leader said coldly. Naruto hesitated, and flushed as his stomach growled needily. "We're all worried about Hinata, but we aren't a match for that guy right now---and we all need to keep our strength up."
"He is right." Lee admitted reluctantly. He, too, wished to look for the missing ninja, but if they lost any strength they would not be able to defeat the enemy. "Let us prepare for our next encounter. Now that we have seen some of what he can do, we can plan the battle, correct?" the green-clad man said to Shikamaru.
Shikamaru nodded, and directed them to various chores that would make this clearing into their camp, while he pulled out a scroll and pen from his backpack, sitting himself on the ground away from the others. No one interrupted him as he began to write, his brow furrowed in concentration.
I need a plan. We have to capture this guy and get Hinata back...how does he do what he does... ? I never saw any sort of hand sign or scroll or even sensed a flare of energy. Neji said his chakra was constantly out of control, as if he were generating it on a mass scale.... Shikamaru thought, frowning as he scribbled down notes. Or he has an insane amount that he can't control. But his jutsu's are ridiculously varied. His wings seem to be a key factor---he used them both times. First the attack on us that temporarily paralyzed us...and then the trees, almost like they were dripping blood into the earth... I just don't get it...
"Shikamaru." came a soft voice. He turned and found Sakura crouching by him, arms wrapped around her knees as she stared out into the forest.
"What's wrong?"
"....what do you think he's going to do to her?" the pink-haired ninja said softly.
He could only shake his head. "I don't know."
"....He wanted both of us....maybe.... maybe if you used me as bait..." she began, but got interrupted.
"No! Absolutely not. That guy is crazy fast and strong. I won't risk anyone else on this team---especially not when he's gunning for you." he said sternly. She bit her lip and nodded reluctantly, before standing and returning to the others.
It just doesn't seem fair. she thought to herself, arms crossed under her breasts. Poor Hinata.... I wish there was some way I could find her...But if Shikamaru doesn't use me as bait, how will we ever find her?
