Naru was laying on the bed in Shika's room sound asleep with her daughter safely tucked against her body when Shika came in.
He stopped in mid step and looked her over as the baby squirmed and looked like she was going to cry for a second, then closed her little eyes and went back to sleep. Who knew that she would be such an attentive mother.
Shika thought as he quickly back tracked after a second and decided that he didn't want to disturb the two just yet and went back into the living room and closed the door as he went over what he should do next, now that he knew what had happened, it wasn't really right to leave things as they were.
Naru would need all the help that she could get to keep her baby safe from it's daddy and damn uncle. Neji.
Neji was a good person to have around in a crisis, he could help.
So could Choji and Kiba.
Shino was very tight lipped, but he wasn't too sure if he would care to help. It wasn't that he thought he was a bad guy or anything, he was just very difficult to read. Gaara would be in, there was no question about that or there might be bloodshed. The red head had taken to Naru like a fish took to water and tended to get violent if she was in trouble or hurt.
The only problem there was that he was in Sauna acting as the new Kazakage. And long distance meetings only worked so much, at best Shika and the others could keep him updated on Naru and her baby's progress.
Lee was out, not because he was a bad person or Shika held anything against him, he was just too honest and the less people knew about Naru's situation the better.
Yet it wouldn't do for the village to find out that she was a girl. Or that she had a daughter, though Tsunade, Iruka, Kakashi. and several others would have to be in on that little piece of information or there would be hell to pay.
He sighed and walked over to his phone and absent minded started to dial a number. The phone rang twice before Neji picked up.
"Neji, I need you to grab Kiba and come over to my place ASAP."
"What's wrong?" The Hyuga asked, his tone clipped and suddenly more alert. Shika smiled sadly though the man couldn't see it and took a deep breath.
"It's about Naru." That was it, there was nothing else to say just yet. And oddly enough it was all that the Hyuga needed to know.
"I'll be there with Kiba in ten minutes." Neji said as he hung up the phone.
Shika blinked and pulled the phone away from his ear for a second and hung up and dialed the next number. Choji's. Or rather Ino's since it was a little after six and the nin was probably trying to wear Ino down so that she would go out with him.
Something that had become his new favorite hobby, just to annoy the woman.
This time the phone rang once. "Ello, ello, ello, how are you today Shikamaru?" Choji asked in his funny mock British accent.
"Not good, Cho."
Like Neji, Choji seemed perfectly in tune to something in his voice, picking up on his anger and sorrow all at once. "Do you need me?"
"Yes."
"I'm on my way. Be there in five." Choji said as he hung up the phone, Shika blinked and looked at the receiver in his hand and wondered how they could read him so easily. Even his own parents could'nt read him. He had just hung up the phone when it rang and he let out a soft almost hysterical laugh and picked it up.
"What the fuck is going on, Shika?" Kiba's rough gravelly tone barked into his ear making it ring as the nin grunted and swore. Shika snorted, he must be pulling on his shoes. "Why did Neji just break down my mom's front door and drag me out of bed?" Kiba growled in annoyance as he finally managed to pull on a shoe.
Ha! One down, one to go.
Victory shall be mine cursed shoe. Kiba thought almost happily until Shika dropped the name bomb. The N name bomb, leaving the dog nin feeling just a little stunned.
"What happened?" He snarled an instant later after getting over his initial shock, whatever it was it had to be bad to make Neji kick down his front door and earn the wrath of his mother and sister.
"Just get here. Fast." Shika growled at him through the phone, his tone was clipped, cold, scathing.
Dear god in heaven he was about to commit murder, wasn't he? There had only been one time when Shika had ever sounded so dark, and that had been when they had all sat down with Naru after the Sauske incident to learn more about the girl who had been passing herself off as a male.
She hadn't told them everything, hell he doubted that she had even told them half so it was safe to assume that what she had told them had just been the tip of the iceberg called 'cluster fuck' but it had been enough for all of them to agree to help her any way that they could from then on.
Shika had been so pissed that he had actually went after a group of civilians and nearly killed them when they had attacked her right in front of them.
Kiba himself, couldn't even begin to count how many times he had come across people trying to hurt her since then and saved her.
Nor could he count the times that he, Neji, Choji and Shika had spent the night in her run down little apartment to keep the villagers away from her. Shit.
"Sure man. Fuck this stupid shoe, I'm gone." And he was, he tossed his shoe over his shoulder and took off running out of his room and grabbed Neji who was arguing with his mother and called out a quick and semi sincere apology as he half dragged the Hyuga down the street with him.
"Where is your other shoe?" Neji asked after a second when he noticed that Kiba was kind of running lop sided.
"Back there in that hole I call my room." Kiba said as they turned the corner and nearly collided with Shino and Lee who had been talking about Naruto's return home and wondering how much different the boy would be.
Neji bit the inside of his cheek to keep from laughing at their stupidity. If they knew anything about Naru at all, they would never let the girl out of their sight again. In his eyes there was no excuse to treat someone like Naru had been treated. It was just too fucked up.
"Hey!"
"Watch it!" Shino hissed in warning as he and Lee had to jump in separate directions to keep from being mowed down by the two.
"Sorry guys, emergency meeting!" Kiba called and nearly screamed like a little girl when Shino fell into step beside him.
"What's going on?" Shino demanded in his usual no nonsense tone. Neji grasped Kiba's jacket and reached past him, his arm just barely touching the nin's chest and gave Shino the hardest shove he could, and sent the bug user crashing through a fenced in year.
"It's classified now buzz off!"
Kiba paled and slowed down and turned to look at Shino who was stepping out of the fenced in yard, his dark eyes could be seen clearly by the dog nin and the narrow eyed glare he gave the two promising retaliation. If it was really that classified then Neji should have just said so, so he knew that he was lying.
Or half lying at least, and that fact pissed him off. He said nothing as Kiba mouthed the words 'Sorry man, kick my ass later.' Shino nodded and silently swore to himself to torture the truth out of Kiba if he had too, but other wise let them go.
"Shino are you okay?" Lee asked worriedly as he looked the shorter teen over. Shino nodded his head and Lee turned to look in the direction the two had been running. It looked like they were heading to Shika's place.
"I wonder what is going on?"
"They probably found where Naruto was hiding and are going to visit him until that doesn't make any sense. I they know where Naruto is, why not tell Lady Tsunade, Sakura or anyone else?"
"Dunno, they've been acting weird since the Sauske incident."
"Weird? What do you mean?"
"I mean that they have been watching Naruto very closely." So closely that it bordered on stalking sometimes. But at least he knew how he was going to pay the jerks back for their rude behavior.
Lee was about to ask him something else when Shino smiled behind his jacket collar and grasped his wrist.
"Let's go inform lady Tsunade that our friends are holding out on us and trying to keep Naruto to themselves." Lee stared at the bug user in obvious horror and cringed as he thought about the terrible things that Tsunade and Sakura were going to do to the duo.
