Here’s another update for you all! Thanks for the reviews, I liked reading them. Also to AlienX’s review about Kyuubi being really small, Since Kyuubi isn’t sealed inside Naruto, I knew that Kyuubi couldn’t be a huge demon all the time. So, depending on how many tails are out, 1-9, Kyuubi’s size varies from a small cat to the normal huge demon size. I’m sorry if I confused you with how small Kyuubi was. You’ll see later on how the size changes. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Chapter 4 Sasuke p.o.v It had been two weeks since Sasuke had stumbled into this foreign land that was ruled by the dobe prince. And judging by his injuries, he was going to be here for a while yet. Strangely though, he wasn’t so against it as he had been the day he had been told. Grudgingly, he grew more accustomed and familiar with his surroundings and the people here. He could already feel that he was slowly beginning to like this country. The people, though wary of him, were kind as their ruler was. The culture was rich with tradition as his own country was, however they were different traditions understandably. The ruler, though a clumsy dobe, was kind hearted he had to admit. The only thing that he disliked about this country was the weather. Compared to his home country, its summer was sweltering even when the sun wasn’t high in the sky. It was…uncomfortable for a person who was used to freezing winters and cool summers. Other than that, Sasuke found that this wasn’t a bad place to be. Currently he was walking down the long bright corridors of the castle alongside Hinata. She was showing him to where Naruto was training since afterward, he supposed, the dobe had some plan for him. Usually, the bundle of energy would seek him out first thing in the morning however today his training prevented that and so he sent Hinata. Awkwardly, he stole a glance to his side at the pregnant woman who seemed to have no hostility or wariness toward him like the others did. Through these two weeks she had visited everyday to see that he was comfortable and that his wounds were cleanly wrapped. It had appeared strange to him that they had sent a pregnant woman to the bedside of a complete, possibly dangerous, stranger. And with each day, the nagging thought of that strangeness grew until finally he couldn’t keep his silence any longer. “Hinata, why did they assign you to take care of me?” Sasuke asked the question that had been plaguing him for days now. It just didn’t make any sense to him. If he had been sent to assassin Naruto like some suspected he could have easily killed her by now. “You’re about to have a baby.” He reasoned. Hinata paused in the hall, her gaze turning up to meet his. One of her soft motherly smiles appeared on her pale pink lips and like always Sasuke was reminded of his mother when he looked upon it. “They didn’t assign me to t-take care of you. I v-volunteered. The morning Naruto announced that you would be staying and that you would n-need someone to look after your wounds and comfort, no one v-volunteered for the p-position.” Hinata’s eyes turned downcast suddenly, in thought, as she remembered. Not one person had wanted to take care of him. Not one had wanted him to stay. They had all thought he was there to kill Naruto and take the kingdom for his own. Hinata had been the only one who hadn’t thought Sasuke was a killer sent here. Her hands touched her belly in an action he had come to realize was a comfort to her. “I n-never once thought that you were an assassin even before you woke. When I v-volunteered, everyone was upset and n-nearly refused to let me t-take the p-position. Kiba was furious… N-Naruto, though, he knew just as well as me that you didn’t m-mean any harm and s-so he let me t-take care of you. And I’m glad he d-did. From what I can s-see, you are a good p-person.” Hinata finished. Suddenly a giggle left. “Also, Kiba w-was always outside the door, because he’s overprotective of m-me.” Another smile lit up her features and Sasuke relaxed some from that look. So from the very beginning they had thought he had come to kill Naruto. He couldn’t blame him. If Naruto had come to his country in the same fashion as him, his own people would think the same thing. His father probably wouldn’t have even healed Naruto. His eyebrows furrowed in thought at that and his chest constricted just a bit. His father would have let Naruto die…without even a passing glance. He shook himself out of those dismal thoughts and turned his attention back to Hinata. “Hn. I should say thank you then, for taking such good care of me.” Sasuke said. Hinata nodded in appreciation as they began to walk again. Silence followed their conversation and not before too long, they had arrived to the training room that Naruto was in. Stepping through the doors, a knife whizzed by their heads and implanted itself into the wall next to them. “What the hell dobe! Watch what you’re doing!” Sasuke yelled impulsively, glaring at Naruto as the blonde rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. “Heh, sorry Sasuke! Didn’t see you there!” Naruto apologized as he ducked low, dodging Kiba’s flung fist. Rushing forward, he tackled his friend to the ground and once he had a handle on the other, he waved ecstatically to the new comers. “Good morning Sasuke, Hinata. I’m glad you could make it!” Naruto shouted over to them as he was flipped onto his back and a punch was thrown at his face. The hit connected, although he quickly recovered and kicked the other off him. Kicking up, Naruto dodged the kicked that was aimed his stomach by flipping backwards. Twisting into a round house kick, the hit landed on Kiba's face, which sent the other tumbling to the ground. He chuckled as Kiba growled, standing from his fallen position. A glint caught his eye and Naruto dodged narrowly as Kiba came swinging his dagger at him. Clearly, the kick to the face was a bit much and Kiba had not appreciated it. Grabbing his own dagger that was sheathed in his boot, Naruto wiped the sweat from his brow before continuing. He had been training since dawn and it was becoming strenuous. The blades clashed and more punches were thrown. Sasuke took in all of it. He had sparred as well in his own country with his brother for training, although not as much anymore since Itachi was nearly the king. The heir wasn’t allowed to be hurt too much for they had other more important duties to take care of. As the second son, Sasuke wasn’t trained to be the king. Instead, his training was to be a soldier and stand as a steady and firm wall for his brother and his country. He had never even thought about becoming the king since he knew from a young age that that was Itachi’s role to fill. His eyes followed Naruto as he imagined what it would be like to duel with him when he was at full health and strength. There were openings, few in some stances more in others. His hits looked powerful too, although his stature and build lessened their full potential. He supposed that Naruto being a submissive had something to do with that. His attacks were wild and fierce and he only dodged at the last possible moment, which always made it less than fully effective. Naruto, when not in a defensive stance, was led by his attacker. It was as if he was stalking him like a fox would chase their prey in the wild. But, when defending, he would lash out and shrink back as if backed into a corner. His fighting style was fascinating to behold. His face was full of expression as he fought, twisting either widely or minutely at each attack or dodge. He could watch Naruto fight all day…if only to see more of those expressions light up Naruto’s face. And then Naruto fell backward onto the hardwood floor and everything changed… Naurto’s p.o.v. Naruto was having a good time. He loved to scrap with Kiba especially when he beat the dog lover. The look on the other’s face was always priceless. And even now, he was on his way to winning. He could tell just by the way that Kiba’s attacks were slowing and his footwork was becoming more sloppily. Kiba was tiring and both of them knew it. That’s what Naruto had that allowed him to have a hefty advantage over people with the same strength and skill as him. Naruto had a nearly tireless amount of stamina. Today he had begun his training at dawn by himself, only to be joined by Lee later on. When Lee tired, he was accompanied by Shikamaru who gave him a run for his money with his tactics. After the other became bored, he was beaten quickly and rested for a mere half hour before Kiba and he began their fight. It had been two hours since then. Even Naruto had to admit though that by now he was tiring rapidly. From a sloppily attack on his part, Kiba was able to dodge and counter strongly with a side kick to his chest that knocked him back. He hit the floor hard and as the pain of the impact washed over him, his breathing became ragged and his body began to heat up. Realization came to him then and he took a swallow strangled breath as he sat up slowly trying to control himself. He had pushed his body before, farther than this, but today it seemed that he just couldn’t take it. Naruto would try harder later. For now, he needed to stop before things became dangerous. “Kiba,” He whispered, his throat constricting with his effort to control the changes that were trying to take over his body. “It’s time to stop.” Naruto said as he stood. He could already feel as his vision changed, his pupils flexing back and forth between round and slit like. His body heat went sky high as well feeling as if he were nearly burning alive. His ankle that had twisted in the fall was realigning and healing itself and his fingers nails were elongating becoming as claws. He needed to stop this reaction from taking place. His eyes flickered around the room counting the lives that would be in danger if this continued. Kiba, Hinata and her baby, and…Sasuke… Kiba, however, decided to ignore his command to stop. He raised his blade again and as he did, Naruto’s hands came up in response, his own blade falling to the ground uselessly. “No, Naruto. In real life situations you can’t just stop when you get tired. We go until there’s a winner just like any other time.” Kiba said firmly as he rushed toward him. Naruto’s breath caught and his instincts nearly took over as he suddenly rushed forward to end the fight by any means when a strike of conscious thought upset his assault. He paused, his cheek was cut in the process. Before his darker side could fully emerge, Naruto thought quickly and grabbed hold of Kiba’s shirt and pushed the man away from him as he stumbled back to the wall far behind him. He slid down as he felt his K9s lengthen into fangs. By this point he already knew his irises had bleed into red from their natural blue. His heart was in a panic, knowing he could not stop what was happening by himself. His body was far too exhausted to turn back under his will. There needed to be something more to stop this. “KYUUBI!” He yelled in a dark booming voice he could not muster normally. Only a second passed before Kyuubi sped into the room and over to his master. With four tails waving behind him, he was the size of a large dog. Upon seeing Kyuubi run over to Naruto and hearing Naruto’s darkened tone, Kiba backed off and ushered Hinata out of the room before he flagged down a servant and told him to get Lord Kakashi and Lord Iruka now. Immediately, Kyuubi lowered his head and nuzzled Naruto’s gently to calm him. Naruto’s arms reached out and he wrapped them around Kyuubi’s neck and pulled the demon fox closer to him. He felt as Kyuubi licked his temple and kept him shielded from the others in the room. He knew that Kyuubi would stop him if he became overtaken by his other side. It had been an agreement with the fox since he was young that if his other side ever overpowered him, Kyuubi would kill him before he hurt anyone. There had been times in the past when this would happen and Kyuubi would stand watch over him guarding both himself and those around him. “Kyuu…” Naruto whispered pitifully as he tried to gain control over what was transpiring within him. It was a never ending battle that was raging over his body and mind. Normally it was easy to conquer, but at times when his body was exhausted and his mind was weak, this would happen and he’d revert to the other side of his history that no one was allowed to speak of. Each time this occurred, it was terrifying, because Naruto knew that this might be the time that he didn’t return back to his normal self and he would be forever an instinct driven beast that would kill without regard or hesitation. Kyuubi keened at his plea and nuzzled his master again trying to comfort him. Suddenly, a scream was torn from his throat as red chakra leaked from Kyuubi’s body and flared around them wildly. It forced the other side of him down, while Kyuubi continued to comfort him. From the attention, the constant pressure of Kyuubi’s demon chakra weighing him down, and the feel that danger was no longer near and that he was safe at last, Naruto’s body began to calm down. His body temperature lowered steadily and his claws shortened and dulled. His fangs that just poked out of his mouth returned to normal and his vision reverted back. It was a slow process. Naruto, half way through, could sense as Kakashi and Iruka arrived with a few dozen guards that, under direct orders from the council, were ready to kill him if he showed any signs of being feral or insane. After some time, Naruto’s arm fell from around Kyuubi and the fox relaxed, its red chakra receded, as it planted itself beside its exhausted master. With a calming breath, Naruto looked up hazily at his caretakers. A sleepy smile dropped on his face as he rested his head back against the wall. Iruka and Kakashi were the first to approach him. “Naruto, are you all right?” Iruka asked cautiously as they inched forward toward him. Naruto nodded as he swallowed to wet his dry throat. He felt so drained now from this entire experience. He was nearly there too, just a few more minutes he would have fully changed. “Naruto, what happened?” Kakashi asked as they came to his side. Through his sweaty bangs, Naruto could see the slight fear that was in their eyes. They had good reason to be afraid. No one knew what would happen or what would become of him if he ever changed fully. It had only happened once in his life and the next day he had gained his ‘whisker’ marks and couldn’t remember the night of the change… “Just pushed myself a little too much. I’m fine now.” Naruto said roughly. “Can you help me stand? I want to rest for a while…” He asked, knowing that he couldn’t stand on his own. Nodding, Kakashi kneeled down and shouldered him along with Iruka as they stood Naruto up. Slowly, they moved across the floor and toward the door. Looking over toward Sasuke who had a shocked expression on his face, Naruto smiled as best as he could. “I’m sorry that I called you here for nothing. I’ll be resting until dinner so you should just go and enjoy your day. Bye, Sasuke.” Naruto managed to get out as he was led out of the room and toward his own chamber. Sasuke remained behind, too shocked to move or say a reply… Sasuke p.o.v He had never seen anything like it in his life. His mind was still trying to process what had happened. After Naruto had fallen, something had changed in the air. It shifted dangerously in anticipation of what was to happen. Sasuke’s relaxed posture instantly straightened as if readying for a fight from some unseen force. Then the changes started. Naruto’s eyes bled red and his pupils thinned to slits. Never in his life had he witnessed such a change in someone. Naruto had backed up to a wall and sat with his arms up as if shielding Hinata, Kiba, and him from his own blood thirty gaze. He could still see however, though those outstretched fingers, his eyes that were not Naruto’s normal blue. Those red eyes were filled insanity. When Sasuke was young, a mere boy, a monster had come and rampaged the land for a month. His father had sent hunters and soldiers alike to kill the damned thing that hell itself had spat onto the earth. Many lives were taken by that feral beast that was larger than a castle. After much effort, they had managed to corner the creature and slay it. He was brought along with his brother to watch as it was killed. Sasuke remembered it eyes as it viciously swiped at its slayers. Neither thought nor reason was seen in those bloody red. Sasuke remembered what his father had called that dangerous creature that cared not what it killed… It was a demon… Naruto’s eyes, when he had changed, had been a mirror of those that belonged to the demon that had terrorized his kingdom so long ago. That same insane look shown through and yet, in a blink, conscious thought was known. Kyuubi had burst in the moment after and ran over to Naruto’s prone figure. And from its multiple tails, Sasuke bore witness to a strange red chakra that wrapped around the demon fox and steadily embraced Naruto. He made to call out, to warn him, but his mouth ran dry as a scream emanated from Naruto. Strangely, Naruto then held onto the demon fox tighter instead of push it away. Before he knew what was happening, trained guards filed into the room along with Iruka and Kakashi. His eyebrows furrowed in confusion at the action. He could tell that these men were ready and willing to fight and to kill…Naruto… But, he couldn’t understand why. Would they really kill their heir to the throne, the future king of this land? The red chakra disappeared and Iruka and Kakashi helped Naruto up. He was led over and a sad tired smile came upon those features. His heart clenched seeing it. “I’m sorry that I called you here for nothing. I’ll be resting until dinner so you should just go and enjoy your day. Bye, Sasuke.” Naruto was led away after saying that and Sasuke was left alone. He couldn’t say what he was thinking or exactly why he was here, but after the incident Sasuke found himself going to Naruto’s chambers. The only way he could describe it was that there was some sort of pulling sensation that made him go there. On his way, he saw the halls line with the same guards that were in the training room before. They didn’t appear to be soldiers or knights that belonged to the castle. The crest they bore on their chests was different and the way they stood was wrong. These men weren’t soldiers or knights, but…mercenaries… His confusion only deepened as he realized this. Why were mercenaries here? Was Naruto dangerous? He drew closer to the door and saw that two of Naruto’s knights were standing guard in front of it. Neji and Shikamaru, if he remembered correctly, were the ones stationed. They were probably here to protect their prince from the mercenaries if he figured right. They eyed him carefully as he approached the door. “Prince Uchiha, what is your business here?” Neji asked as he stood a little straighter as if trying to gain the height advantage when both of them knew they were the same height. Sasuke didn’t know how to answer at first. He didn’t know what his business was here. It was unbelievable; he had come all this way without a notation as to why. Had he come to check up on Naruto? Had he come for answers? Sasuke didn’t know… “Can I see him?” He replied. Even Sasuke couldn’t have predicted that that was what he was going to ask. A suspicious look came to Neji’s expression then and his hold on his sheath tightened in defense. “No. He’s resting at the moment.” He responded firmly, leaving no room for argument. Sasuke scowled and narrowed his gaze on the other. He didn’t like this one. He was nothing like his cousin Hinata. “And what right do you have to refuse me?” Sasuke asked, angry. Neji was a lord, a noble like himself, but that did not mean that he could tell a prince what he could and could not do and with such attitude as that. Neji glared, clenching his teeth at the insult. He went to unsheathe his weapon, intent on removing Sasuke by force if he had to, when the door to Naruto’s room opened to reveal Kakashi looking beyond angry. “I think it’s time you leave, Prince Uchiha. My prince is resting and will be down for dinner. If you wish to see him, you’ll have to wait until then.” The captain of the guard told him. Sasuke could tell that he was serious and wouldn’t hesitate to draw his weapon on him if he stayed any longer. And so, grudgingly he nodded and turned limping down the hall. He’d just have to wait until dinner to see Naruto, not that he knew why he wanted to in the first place. There was something about him…something that pulled Sasuke toward Naruto…although something like that was impossible… Several hours later Sasuke sat up in his room watching out his window as he had come to doing when he wasn’t reading, talking to Hinata, or doing something with the dobe. His thoughts were away from him, clouded by blonde hair, blue eyes, and a bright smile. Since this morning, Sasuke had been thinking of Naruto and worrying about him. Throughout the day there had been no news and the unrest that was within the ones closest to Naruto was quite apparent and growing as each hour passed that Naruto remained asleep. Sasuke could see it on the faces of Naruto’s people that they were deeply concerned. Naruto meant so much to them and Sasuke knew that it wasn’t just because Naruto was their prince. Naruto was important to them as a family member would be to someone. He cared for them so deeply and they returned that feeling fully. It was amazing to watch them interact with him, trying their best to please him. It wasn’t out of fear of repercussion like it was in his own kingdom. This was love, a deep seeded love that they had for him. Something stirred inside Sasuke as he thought of Naruto. It was an odd feeling, nothing like the pulling he felt earlier. It was a softer, warmer, feeling than he had ever experienced before and Sasuke couldn’t help but want to feel it again and more of it. If he could try to describe it, he would say that it was something purely Naruto… There was a knock at his door, however before he could permit the person to enter or not it opened to reveal just the person he had been thinking of for most of the day; Naruto. Immediately he stood, his shock evident as his eyes looked over the other to make sure that he was really there. He didn’t look any worse for wear nor did he appear tired. A bright smile appeared on Naruto’s lips and all worry and concern that Sasuke had had for him disappeared at that moment. Naruto was…Naruto again for a lack of a better word. It calmed him in knowing that. “Sasuke, I thought I’d stop by and see if you wanted to join the castle for dinner. You can’t keep getting your meals in here.” He said, laughing. Ever since Sasuke had arrived those two weeks ago, the dark haired stranger had yet to take his meals anywhere but his room. Naruto had figured that he didn’t feel comfortable eating in a place he was not familiar with and so it had become a sort of campaign of his to get Sasuke to eat with the rest of the castle. Sasuke didn’t say a word for a moment. Merely, he stood and came to stand right in front of the other. His eyes stared at Naruto’s cheek as his hand came up to touch the smooth skin. Just before the incident in the training room, Naruto had gotten cut on the cheek… “Your cut is gone…” Sasuke said as his thumb smoothed over his cheek. A light blush arose on Naruto’s cheek as he took a step backward away from the hand. “Just a part of the mystery that is Naruto.” Naruto said as he laughed awkwardly, his hand scratching the back of his neck nervously. Realizing their closeness and his strange behavior, Sasuke too took a step back to give them some added space. An awkward silence rested between them until Sasuke chose to end it. He didn’t like this atmosphere. “…You said dinner?” Sasuke asked, coughing to clear his throat. Naruto, who still had a semblance of a blush on his cheeks nodded with his eyes diverted down. “Yes, would you like to join us?” Naruto asked again, gaining enough confidence to look back up at the other. Sasuke swallowed thickly and nodded to the other’s invitation. With that, Naruto and Sasuke went side by side down the hall toward the dinning hall. “Uh, Sasuke… Neji said you wanted to see me, while I was resting. Was it about something important?” Naruto asked as they neared the hall. Thinking quickly, knowing that he truly didn’t have a reason for wanting to see him then, Sasuke answered. “No, dobe, just wanted to make sure you didn’t kill yourself.” Naruto smiled a little at the reply before he realized the insult. “TEME!” He yelled. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Until the next chapter, please oh please review!
