Ch4: Colliding of Paths Sasuke dropped his bag at the door and shrugged his soaked jacket from his shoulders, tossing it on top of the equally soaked brief case he had abandoned at the door. The storm had managed to poor its full force on Sasuke as he ran home, only to let up as he pushed open the front door of the apartments, leaving him with the uncomfortable sensation of water trailing down his pant legs. He had scoffed at the convenience of it all, but he didn’t find it nearly as funny as the people staring at him in amusement from their seats in the lobby. Seeing as he wasn't really in the mood to laugh along with them Sasuke settled for glaring at them until they stopped, and he no longer felt the need to humor them. Convenient, right? But that wasn’t the part of his day that caused him to sigh as if it was his last breadth, oh no, his dear brother had been the cause of that part. His sweet sweet brother, the kind soul that he was, had assigned him the second largest project their family’s company was working on. And now instead of ghosting by in the office halls Sasuke had to worry about not failing his brother, or his father for that matter. He could see that his brother was only trying to help him, but what Itachi didn’t seem to understand was that Sasuke didn’t need his help. He had already appeased his father by taking the job and doing well in his position, allowing his elder brother to shine in the lime light of top dog and to be their father's sole focus. Sure it hurt that his father didn’t see greater things in Sasuke but that had its upsides too, like not drowning in paper work or expectations, to name a few. Sasuke released another irritated sigh. Thinking about his day was only making the pain on his left side worsen. For a while now he had feared he was developing an ulcer, but apparently it was only a phantom pain that his subconscious had developed to deal with some of his stress. Or so the doctors told him. Whether he believed them was another story, and a question that would be answered if he one day found himself in a hospital bed. He lifted the hissing tea kettle from his stove, putting a stop to the annoying sound, and inhaled the unadulterated floral fumes of the hanging tea packet as the hot water shattered against it. He would have preferred to use his fresh leaves, but he wasn’t willing to wait. And so instead he settled for the harsher taste of store bought tea and let himself droop into his favored seat on his porcelain white couch. When Sasuke had drunk half of his second mug of tea he was finally able to relax and gaze around his apartment. The room worked like a well oiled machine with its organized storage, clean white walls, and geometric modern furniture. There was nothing out of place and nothing too dazzling that would detract from the steady and firm flow. It matched his personality perfectly. Though at the end of his gaze Sasuke noted the one object that disrupted the balanced flow of the space. A warm figure framed in black against pure white walls. It was charming how the man was able to change the current of the room simply by being present. And if Sasuke was to be honest with himself he would have to admit the effect the man had on him as well, but Sasuke being Sasuke would never admit that. With a relaxed grin he set his mug down and was about to get up to grab a towel for his hair, which was beginning to drip, but a sound caught him before he could fully stand. A deep full laugh bellowed down his hall kicking against the walls to reach Sasuke who stood half way up in silence. The sound resonated through the home before fading into an echo, lasting just long enough to change the apartment entirely. Sasuke until then had been under the impression that he was alone in the apartment, seeing as usually Sai greeted him with annoying updates on art that held none of Sasuke’s interest. But clearly that was not the case. Sasuke had walked to the center of the apartment trying to place where the stranger’s voice had come from when another equally joyful laugh ripped through the apartment. The sound had come from Sai’s room. Sasuke was shocked that he hadn’t noticed the dim light shining from under Sai’s door, but he doubted he would have noticed the dim light even if the hall lights were off. It was odd for him to be working in such poor lighting, but it wasn’t unheard of. Nor was it really uncommon for him to have someone in the room with him. What was odd was the fact he didn’t warn Sasuke or burst out of the room to boast about his new model and how well “adorned” they were compared to Sasuke. Not like he knew anyways’, they hadn’t been to a bath together since childhood. Sasuke was tempted to knock on the door to ask what was wrong with Sai, but before he had the chance the door flung open. Sasuke was pretty sure his jaw hit the floor at what he saw when it did. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Sai was staring at Naruto with an expression that Naruto had to guess was frustration. They had been cooped up in the small cluttered room all day and Naruto was starting to get antsy. He had gotten up twice already to fix the sheets around him, which really weren't that supportive against the hard wood floors, and each time Sai had threatened to restart his three hour long effort if Naruto insisted on changing his pose 'every minute'. The thought of having to sit still for another three or so hours was enough to make him freeze in place and wait while keeping a close eye on the numerous canvases that stood ready to step in if Naruto forced Sai's hand. Who even allowed him to walk out of the art store with seven massive canvases in the first place? They had to have known who he was and what he was bound to do with them. 'If they thought it was such a good idea then maybe they should have volunteered to pose for each one.' Naruto sneered as he felt the hard wood embedding itself in his ass. Naruto's lips twisted with Millicent mirth as he plotted a way to acquire a 'willing replacement' and earned himself another well aimed flying paintbrush to the neck. He cursed at the paler man, but Sai made no move to show he heard him and instead focused on his work. Only when he had dragged his brush through the last caressing stroke did he allow his face to change. He looked at Naruto with a calm face that only Naruto was trained to know meant he had finally finished yet another work. Naruto didn't even bother to wait for his okay, there was too high a chance that his bastard of a friend would grab another of the gigantic canvases, to grab his sheet and quickly wrap himself in it as he reached for the door. Sai's eyes grew in size slightly as he watched Naruto's back as if the slight gesture was enough of a warning to tell Naruto he was doing something very dangerous. Well it wasn't, because Naruto continued to fix the sheet around his waist as he moved to open the door, making sure to never let the cloth slip and reveal himself to the perverted painter. It was slightly tempting to tease Sai and ask what had him so worried, but Sai went ahead and answered the unspoken taunt for him. It was nice of him to save Naruto the effort, but it also spoiled his fun. “Naruto you can’t. If Sasuke comes home and sees you walking around the apartment like a French prostitute he will most likely slit your throat and hang you out to dry.” There was a slight undertone to his voice that Naruto could barely make out as panic. Naruto struggled to hold back his laughter but it was pointless, he erupted into a laugh that only stopped when Sai's look of concern turned into a stern threat. “What? You serious?" Naruto's voice was strained with a little fear, but he easily shrugged it off along with his friend's concerns. "It’s completely normal for a man to walk around half naked. Besides I’m sure I can handle myself.” Naruto wrenched the door open still watching Sai with a large taunting grin plastered across his fox like face, but when Sai’s shallow anger had turned slightly worried so did Naruto's grin. He was about to ask what the problem was when he felt a chilling sensation spread across his bare shoulder like the scattering of spiders. He turned around to face the dark silhouette that had cause the sensation and had to clench his fist tighter in his drapes to stop from fidgeting. A raven haired man stood dead center in the doorway and cut the light that streamed from behind him, blanketing Naruto and Sai in his shadow. He was slightly shorter than Naruto yet he still seemed to loom over the frozen blond, causing a nervous chill to run up his bare neck to the soles of his feet that refused to move. And his eyes—they were as dark as coal but held a sharp spark even in the darkness of his shadow. It was a worrying spark that easily explained the momentary change in Sai and the drastic change in the room's atmosphere. Naruto was dumb struck for a moment as the man’s eyes raked him over and for a moment he felt like wrapping himself completely in his drapery. But then the man spoke. “You must be Naruto.” The man’s voice was deeper than Naruto had though it would be and he felt another chill run down his spine. It felt like he was being eyed by a hungry demon, a hungry deep voiced and pissed demon. Naruto bit back the tinge of fear and decided it best to say something rather than just standing there and looking defenseless. “I am, and you must be the angry housewife.” >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Sasuke was shocked. There was no way of mistaking it. The man in front of him was the same man that hung on his wall in the corner of his eye. But there was something different. The man’s eyes were brighter than those in the painting. And a large fox like grin was spreading across hiss face, where a strong contemplative line should have been, from something that he said that Sasuke hadn’t quite caught. Sasuke inwardly shook himself clear of his daze and ran through his mind the motions the man’s lips had gone through. Had he called him an angry housewife? That couldn’t be right. Sasuke was sure he had missed a mouth motion or mistook a few, so he raised an eyebrow asking the other man to run that by him one more time. “Come again?” “I said: I am Naruto. And that you must be the angry housewife that I have heard so much about.” Naruto’s grin widened at Sasuke's now obvious shock. Sasuke glared down at the taller man yet that devilish grin refused to vanish. It was frustrating for Sasuke to see that like the painting, the man was immune to his methods of intimidation. 'Of all the things for them to have in common….' Sasuke thought, fighting the urge to pinch the bridge of his nose in irritation, afraid that it would give away his frustration and allow the other man to mock him further. Knowing no other way to deal with the other man Sasuke darkened his glare and "hn"ed at him, leaving him to try and fathom what the small gesture could possibly mean. But yet again the blond baffled him. "What does that even mean? You can't just walk away with that as if it is the come back of all come backs. Or can you not think of anything else to say?" And to the infuriating blonds delight Sasuke's shoulders stiffened against his will. It was only for a second but it was long enough that Sasuke could feel the other man's laugh rumble through the air. Sasuke's mind went blank and before he could regain his composure he found his fist firmly planted in the other man's face. Whether the other man was aware of it or not Sasuke's face slackened with confusion for a moment before he could recover once more. He had never lost his temper before, not even during one of his many fights with his brother. But it was too late now. The man in front of him was holding his hand to his bleeding face and staring at Sasuke with eyes that flared like azure flames. The only thing Sasuke could do now was go with it and try to steer things back to their rightful place. Dignified, orderly, controlled, scripted, and predictable. Of course there was no way he could have known that the fierce blond in front of him had a track record for doing the exact opposite of all of those things, and that he would in no way allow things to go as Sasuke planned. Well, not without a fight. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> There was a pop before Naruto could even register the fist that had connected with his nose. He stared at the blood that dripped lazily onto the hand that had instinctively risen to guard the possibly broke cartilage. "The hell bastard?!" Naruto roared as the first wave of pain shot through him. Sai had slid out of his room at the sound and stared in slight shock at his injured model. "Sasuke. You can't hurt him, it will ruin my paintings." Naruto glared at Sai. "Really? That's all the concern you have? This bastard just punched me in the face for no fucking reason and that's what you say?!" Naruto yelled but Sai's face remained as it was, only further proving Naruto's worth to his 'friend'. It was obvious to him that Sai wasn't going to be any help. The raven haired man, whose name Naruto remembered had been Sasuke, had extended his hand to Naruto with an expression that was halfway apologetic and halfway smug. Was it supposed to be an apology? Naruto stared at his hand in udder disbelief before smacking it away with a growl. The man's face appeared shocked as if Naruto was the one acting rudely, and Naruto had to laugh. And they called Naruto an idiot? "You expect me to take that as an apology? One comment does not equal a fist to the face! And that sorry excuse of a face you just made doesn't come any where near the face some one should make when apologizing to a guest for hitting them." Naruto's voice was steadily rising and his anger with the raven was doing the same. He could feel Sai's warning eyes on the back of his neck but furiously ignored it. As far as he was concerned the bastard in front of him wasn't going to land another hit and he sure as hell wasn't going to get away with the first one with a 'get out of jail free' card. The raven's features hardened but Naruto ignored his guts recommendation of running. Instead he got in the man's face and with a cocky grin he shoved Sasuke's shoulder hard enough to dislodge him slightly from his spot in the hall. Naruto watched as Sasuke lost his control for the second time that day and hurled him self back at Naruto landing another solid punch to his face but this time in the jaw. Naruto returned the favor with a solid kick to Sasuke's chest that for a moment had the man winded. Naruto chuckled in delight until Sasuke slammed him into the wall, apparently feeling the need to show Naruto how his previous attack felt. Naruto gasped out under Sasuke's weight and managed to land a couple of punches to Sasuke's eye and the side of his head, just barely missing his temple, and grinned wickedly when Sasuke's eyes widened at his aim. Sasuke pulled him forward and both men fell to the ground punching and kicking at each other, landing several more blows before Sai finally decided to step in. "Alright, alright, I get it. You are both big strong men so stop trying to mount each other already." Sai's sarcasm had an immediate effect. Sasuke, who had successfully pinned Naruto for the time being, released Naruto's arms from above his head and Naruto, who's face had turned red either in his struggle or his embarrassment at being caught in such a scenario, had released Sasuke's hips from a powerful leg lock. Sai gave a huff to voice his frustration and pulled Naruto up off the floor. "Honestly, you two have barely known each other for more than five seconds yet you" he said as he eyed Naruto's painfully bruised chin "have managed to put him in a worse mood than I have ever seen." Whether he meant Sasuke or him Naruto wasn't quite sure, but he was almost positive that Sai had phrased it like that for that purpose. Naruto heard Sasuke grunt in indignation. And Naruto was close to doing the same because while he was obviously bruised and bleeding the bastard had no signs of injury except for a small welt from Naruto's first punch and a slight bruise forming around his left eye. It was ridiculous, even his hair was still in place as if his hair gel was indestructible. But instead of voicing his annoyance Naruto glared at Sasuke, but the raven just stared back as if Naruto was to blame for it all and not him. Naruto was about to make a move toward him again, but Sai stopped him. He stood behind Sai's arm watching in aggravation as a small victorious grin creeped across the bastard's face. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> So much for planning out his actions. Sasuke was mortified by being caught up in the idiots squabble and being caught in such a position. But that was going to be the last time. Hear that world? The last time! Sasuke took a deep breadth, feeling the tension in his muscles ease away, and let a small calm smile remain on his lips with the last soothing breath. The smile lingered for a moment even as the restrained blond watched him with increasing hatred. Sasuke was close to opening his mouth to ask the idiot what his problem was, but quickly thought better of it. 'No, no more. No more of this ridiculous nonsense. I will grab my bag, make my way to my room, and have nothing to do with this blond atrocity ever again. And the next time I look at my painting I will have cleared my mind of this man who is threatening to change him in my eyes.' Sasuke thought bitterly as he walked past the restrained man to pick up his brief case. He heard the strained argument of his roommate and the blond as he locked himself in his room and popped open his brief case, pulling out the file his brother had entrusted to him no more than an hour ago. He had plans to formulate before he met his new partner and he had no better way to get his mind off of the irritant blasting his voice behind his door. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> "Let go of me Sai!" Naruto roared as he watched the black stupid haircut disappear behind a door down the hall. Sai was sure to only let go of his struggling friend when he was sure Sasuke had gone in his room. And as soon as he had he let Naruto jerk free from him. Naruto was furious that Sai had not only refused to help him but had even held him back from wiping that smug look off that bastards face. He wanted to punch his ass hole of a friend right in the nose. Seriously…. he even let his dick of a roommate punch him in the face without a complaint or… or ANYTHING! What kind of a friend was he?! And what the hell was wrong with Sakura? Sasuke was an ass, and most definitely not 'gorgeous'. "You need to calm d-" "Fuck you Sai!"Naruto snapped. He glared at the pale man who was looking at him with an odd expression of either sympathy or apology and he felt his anger slipping away. He sighed and fixed the drape that was now sagging around his waist. "Fine, I get that I overreacted… a little." "A little you say?" Sai rolled his eyes at Naruto as he passed him for the kitchen. "I would say you were contesting for an award for dumb ass of the year. Grant it Sasuke has taken home the trophy for bastard of the year for the past twenty three years, but honestly. No need to give the man applause or assist in his encore." Sai scolded as he heated up some water and pulled out two plastic wrapped and labeled bowls. Naruto lowered his head as his friend reprimanded him, but perked up when he saw the familiar packaging. Ramen! Good, Sai wasn't too mad then and there was no way Naruto was still mad at Sai now. Naruto's eyes dropped into a glare for a second as he saw through his friend's tricks, but honestly he was hungry enough to not care that his addiction was being used against him. Sai after a while pored the hot water into the cups and slid one over to Naruto as they sat down at the marble kitchen table. They ate in silence, the only sounds heard were slurps and splashes as Naruto devoured his bowl as quickly as his mouth would let him. Only when they had finished and Naruto was munching away on a blue popsicle did Sai speak again. "So… tomorrow are you going to play nice or am I going to have to go get a crate from Kiba?" "Haha Sai very funny. You keep that up and you will need more than one bowl of ramen to make me forget tonight." Sai nodded but kept staring at Naruto waiting for more. Naruto sighed. "I get it. I will play nice with the bastard but if he starts something-" "He wont." Was all Sai said as he got up to get Naruto some covers and a pillow for the couch. It was the start of the weekend so Naruto would be staying over to help Sai with his paintings and he reasonably asked to sleep on the couch. There was no way He was going to share a bed with Sai and no way he was sleeping on that hardwood floor with all those creepy nudes surrounding him. Naruto went to the bathroom to change and emerged a few moments later dressed in a loose T-shirt and boxers. Sai looked him over and grinned when he saw the oh too familiar night cap covering up his friend's messy blond hair. Naruto had had the stupid thing for years now and wouldn't part with it no matter how many fits people threw. His close friends left him alone about it though, they new what it meant to him. Naruto returned the grin before flopping onto the couch splaying his limbs over the leather surface and wrapping himself in the soft white sheets. Sai smiled at him and said goodnight and Naruto returned the gesture before turning to face the cushions and passing out. Sai grinned at the ease of his friend. No more than a few moments ago the boy was fighting fiercely and screaming at him and now he was balled up like an innocent child passed out. It was amazing sometimes how he could do it. Sai chuckled once more at his friend's antics before leaving the living room to pass out on his own bead after a long day of painting. His eyes hurt like a son of a bitch. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Naruto laid on the bed staring at the cushions waiting for his friend to leave before he rolled over on his back to stare at the sterile white ceilings of the foreign space. It had been a long day that for the most part it had been pretty damn good, well until he met Sasuke. He honestly couldn't understand why he had acted that way but something about the man just irritated him or was it that he set him on edge? Whatever it was it was annoying and resulted in Naruto provoking and attacking the other man. And he gets to see the prick in the morning and evening and afternoon for the next two days. Splendid. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Naruto fell asleep like that; with his arms crossed and his eyebrows furrowed as he worried his bottom lip. It took way longer for him to pass out than his friend had believed, but when he finally did fall asleep his face didn't resemble that of an innocent child but of a worried and ill at ease adult. AN: Hey everyone! I am so sorry that it has taken me so long but I was away in Europe up until now and it costs way too much to pay for internet over there. Well I feel I must apologize for last chapter. It was not my best because I had to rush and it was kind of as bridmatt put it 'forced'. It turned out that way by accident and I tried to fix it so it wasn't so bad but still leave it similar to what some of you have already read. SO i ended up just removing a sentence but i think it made it a bit better. Well if you all are still following my story thank you so much for the reviews and I'm glad that you all are enjoying it. That's the best part about writing this and the reason I got this chapter out haha. Hope you enjoy and don't forget to review and rate :3 I shall reward you with my love.
