888 Chapter 4 “Oooph.” Itachi jerked up hands instantly going to snap the neck of whoever was on him, sharingan spinning widely. “’Tachi!” He bounced on Itachi’s chest grinning. “S’ske is making Bedfest! Common, you godda come ead too.” The blonde bundle climbed down and ran back to the kitchen in a fresh dark blue shirt with the Uchiha emblem on it. “I got him up…but he seemed mad abouds ids.” Standing next to Sasuke, the blonde pouted looking up. He continued to wait watching the food being prepped and split into bowls. Finally he started to sniffle. “Sasu-niisan! Led me up!” Sasuke’s hands went flat on the cook top not sure how he felt about the title. Finally he leaned down and picked the tiny blonde up. “Why are you so small, Dobe? You’re four… you should be bigger.” He muttered sitting Naruto down far enough away from the cook top to keep him from trying to help on the hot surface. Frowning Naruto shrugged. “I dun know, I is jus da way I is.” Sighing he looked at Sasuke. “I wanna help.” “You are just the way you are, Dobe… where did you learn to speak?” Sasuke was looking around and then grinned. “Here peel these.” He had given Naruto two bananas to peel. “Then put them in this bowl.” While Sasuke couldn’t stand the sweet fruit Naruto and Kakashi were very fond of them. He put the rice into a bowl when the cooker dinged, flipped the last bit of omelet with his chopsticks before setting it on a plate with the rest and then frowned. “Naruto… where is the fish?” “I pudded it on da table.” The stubby fingers pointed to the low table where the fish sat. He then turned beaming at Sasuke. “I helped!” Sighing Sasuke nodded then went to rescue the fish. “I’m going to cook them now, ok?” “Bud YOU said, dare dees is weady.” Naruto frowned looking sad. “I meant ready to be cooked, I had seasoned them.” The raven grit his teeth trying to explain without yelling. “Why don’t I take him?” Itachi could hear the impatience in his brother’s tone. “Naruto would you like to come for a walk with me? I’m going to take a look around Sasuke’s home while he finishes preparing breakfast.” Itachi chuckled as Naruto stood and Sasuke instantly reached for him. “Dobe! No standing on the counter… Kami, why is that something I have to say to you regularly? You know you never outgrow this.” Sasuke shook his head, putting the boy on the ground. Naruto beamed up at Sasuke and hugged his leg tight. “I love you S’ske.” Then he clamped onto Itachi’s hand pulling him to the open door. Sasuke blinked, his heart pounding. This was not good, he needed the Dobe back. He needed his Dobe back because to see Naruto like this was obviously messing with his head. Breakfast was an uncomfortably silent affair with Naruto busy eating. Sasuke was used to the blonde talking even when they ate meals. Breakfast was always Naruto’s job so Sasuke had been annoyed at having to get up and make the meal. Finally Sasuke stood and took his dishes to the kitchen. Itachi watched as Naruto jumped up with his plate and ran after Sasuke. He’d never seen the tiny bundle of sunshine so comfortable with anyone - including himself. It had taken him months to gain Naruto’s trust. “They have always been relatively inseparable. It’s likely some part of Naruto knows Sasuke and he are friends.” Kakashi’s eye crinkled when he smiled at his love. He’d gone to find Iruka and let him know about Naruto’s current state. The teacher had been excited about it and promised to come round once he’d finished some errands. “Iruka will be around shortly I’d imagine. He seemed genuinely happy to hear about Naruto’s current state. Sometimes I worry about his mental state.” Itachi eyed his lover for a moment. “I hope you informed him I don’t share, Hatake.” He frowned when Kakashi choked a little on his rice and confirmed Itachi’s suspicions. “Itachi, you were gone for years. I am not a monk.” Kakashi was already starting to try and explain his way out of whatever trouble he was in. Holding up his hand Itachi shook his head. “Kakashi, neither of us were celibate while I was away. However unless you have decided not to continue our relationship…” Itachi had never considered that Kakashi might have moved on. “Iruka is, well he’s a bit soft considering your tastes but I would understand.” He was being sensible, he had no rights to a man he’d left behind for a long term mission, but it didn’t stop the ache that had started to fill his chest. “Stop. Itachi, I would not have stayed in your bed if I were in a relationship. I may be known for a lot of things, but I am not the sort to string a person along - nor would I cheat.” Kakashi was a little insulted. “Iruka and I had a friendly sort of arrangement. Truthfully we haven’t slept together in months. Sensei has become quite besotted with another man.” The silver haired nin shook his head. “I’m honestly not sure if he’s good enough for Iruka though.” Itachi visibly relaxed once Kakashi assured him of where they stood. Sasuke turned when the pad of little feet stopped. Naruto stood behind him, plate lifted up. “All done.” He grinned but made a face when Sasuke took the plate and returned with a wet towel to clean Naruto’s face and hands. “I wasn dat messy!” Huffing he stood still and let Sasuke clean him up. “You is finkee.” Raising a brow Sasuke asked, “Finicky?” When Naruto nodded he scowled. “I am not finicky. I just prefer not to wander around with food on me.” Sighing Naruto just nodded to appease his new Nii-san. “Sas-uke, nii-san whad is we doin now?” Naruto reached up holding Sasuke’s hand as he moved away. Then stilled at the knock on the door and hid behind Sasuke’s legs. “Don’d led’em take me pwease?” Frightened eyes looked up at Sasuke pleadingly. “Hn.” Sasuke was not happy at all. The way chibi-Dobe seemed to go from bright and happy to scared was making him want to chidori the entire population of the village over 25. “No one is taking you anywhere Dobe.” When Naruto looked into his eyes after a few moments the blonde nodded but still turned and ran to Itachi hiding in the older Uchiha’s lap. Had Sasuke been anyone but himself he might have growled. Instead he schooled his face and went to answer the door. Iruka stood at the door beaming, “Hello Sasuke. I’ve come to see Naruto! Kakashi told me he’s just a baby again.” He waited to be invited in and then held up a bag. “I stopped and got him some things to wear. I highly doubted either of you had children’s cloths lying about.” Naruto peeked over Itachi’s shoulder at the man at the door. He frowned, the man looked familiar but he didn’t know why. Standing Itachi held Naruto and nodded toward the plates. Kakashi rolled his eyes and cleared the table up. Stopping in front of the teacher the elder Uchiha raised a brow. “Oh he’s even younger then when I first met him. Kakashi said he doesn’t remember anything that has happened since he was this age?” When Sasuke nodded the brunette smiled sadly. “What a double edged sword. A chance to make his childhood right but with all of the threats this village faces, to lose Naruto is nothing short of a disaster.” He leaned over blinking at Naruto’s eyes. “Hello there, I am Iruka-sensei. I teach at the ninja academy.” Naruto gasped, eyes wide. “Wif all da normal kids?” He looked at the ponytailed man in awe. Iruka swallowed, standing straighter and gripping the bag. “Naruto, you are normal too.” Sighing, the blonde head shook sadly. “No, I is a mondser.” Sighing he put his head on Itachi’s shoulder looking at Iruka. Iruka physically flinched at Naruto’s innocent but heart breaking words. He told Naruto firmly, “You are not a demon. You are a very small boy with a very big responsibility, one that you will bear with strength and honor Naruto. You are special and strong and no other person could do the things you will do.” Biting his lip the teacher knelt and opened the bag. “I’ve brought some things for you Naruto… new clothes and some toys.” “For me? Weelly?” The blonde looked at Itachi questioningly. Nodding, Itachi smiled and set Naruto on the floor. “It’s alright Naruto. Iruka is one of the good ninja.” He reassured the little boy watching as he crept closer and peered into the bag. Sasuke was furious, only his years of experience controlling himself stopped him from killing every living thing in his own home. “Perhaps you should go train Otouto.” Itachi could feel his brother’s anger and didn’t want Naruto affected by it. “Sunshine trusts you; let us keep it that way, yes? If he feels your anger he will be nervous around you.” The gasp and squeal of delight drew their attention, and Sasuke rolled his eyes. “Was that necessary?” He gave the teacher a withering look. Naruto was bouncing and holding up a shirt - it was bright orange with a white picture of a steaming bowl on it. “Loog Nii-san! Loog it’s my favit! Nordange an waman!” Turning he grabbed Iruka around the neck and hugged him. “Tank you Wooka.” He turned showing Kakashi. Sasuke slipped out the door while Naruto was distracted. When the child turned back he frowned looking around. “Where Nii-san go?” Tugging Itachi’s pant leg he frowned. “Tachi where Nii-san?” “He had some errands to run Naruto, Sasuke will be back soon. Why don’t we go try on the clothes that Iruka brought for you?” Pouting Naruto nodded and let the raven lead him to his room to change. Sasuke stopped to get Hyuuga and silently went to the training fields. Hours passed, pummeling one another, experimenting with various jutsus until neither had the chakra to continue. Looking at Sasuke from his place under the tree Neji asked, “Naruto?” “Hn.” Sasuke took a long drink from his canteen. “Are you going to tell me what he’s done?” Pale eyes turned toward Sasuke’s flushed skin. Frowning for a moment, black met white and then the Uchiha sighed. “He has been turned into a chibi and he doesn’t realize the secrets he is letting slip… I never realized the sort of life he lived. He was always a loud, obnoxious Dobe.” Sasuke’s words where soft. “This child is bright and happy, but the things that has happened to him…Hyuuga, he was beaten. He offered to stand still for a beating if we promised not to hurt Itachi when we first found them. He was attempting to find an offer to sweeten the deal. Standing still for a beating as if it were an everyday occurrence and it makes me sick. He is so tiny - he speaks as if he’s only just learned how, and when a person shows him the smallest kindness he acts as if he’s been graced with a treasure. I can’t imagine how his reaction to simple kindness was exploited.” Neji was ghostly gray as Sasuke’s words sank in. “Before leaving, Iruka-sensei came to see him. When Iruka informed him he was normal like the other children, Naruto informed the room that he was not normal - he was a monster. The finality he said it with gave me a bloodlust I haven’t known since I was a child.” Neji shook his head sighing. He couldn’t imagine such things of his friend; the Naruto he’d known and knew now was always happy and bright. He knew Sasuke rarely spoke to anyone the way he just had to him. Gaining the Uchiha’s trust had not been easy - in fact he hadn’t gained his trust or respect until he’d taken a blow for Naruto. Had Naruto taken it in his already damaged condition it likely would have killed him. “You will have him back Uchiha. Hokage will fix it. You should tell him how you feel about him.” Sasuke’s head whipped around to look at Neji. “Hyuuga.” His tone was harsh and warning. Waving him off, Neji took a drink from his water bottle. “I don’t care one way or another. If you want to lose him to someone else keep watching from the sidelines. However, Gaara does care and that means I have to hear about it. He assured me that Naruto’s feelings for you are far deeper then as mere friends.” Frowning, Sasuke leaned against the tree. “Hn.” 888 Remember feedback keeps me motivated!!While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
