The next morning, a messenger came to the inn to let them know that the daimyo would be arriving later that morning. Sakura checked the women over once more and found that the antidote seemed to be working. The drug had worn off during the night and she didn't see any major withdrawal symptoms yet.
The innkeeper, with help from Sakura and Tenten, put together a simple breakfast and passed it out. Gai, Kakashi and Kenji spent the time learning where everyone was from and coordinating the efforts it would take to return them home safely. They would also be discussing it with the daimyo later that morning.
By the time the daimyo had arrived, they were ready to meet with him and the four ninja, along with Kenji were standing in his office in the city building. He was a powerfully built man, about as tall as Gai and just as well-built. When he spoke, he wasted no time getting to the point. "I want him out of my country."
Kenji smiled. "I would be happy to extradite him to our country. I simply need you to approve it, and I will need him to stay in the jail another couple of days. We need to return the women he was holding to their homes."
The daimyo nodded. "Very well, though I believe we can aid you in that. We can arrange for a couple of carriages to help transport them home."
Kakashi spoke up. "That would be very helpful. Ninja can travel very quickly, but I'm afraid they would not be able to travel far before resting and it could otherwise take a while to get them home."
"Of course. It's the least we can do. I'll get it arranged for this morning yet."
"Why, if you knew what he was, did you not do anything about him?" Gai spoke for the first time. Kakashi rolled his eyes.
The daimyo smiled. "Actually, I did do something. We do not have a large enough force of law officers, or the skills necessary, to deal with someone like him. So, I started the rumors, knowing that Konoha had us under our protection."
"But why did you not just send word for us to come out here?"
"Because I didn't want to give him a chance to slip through. There's a lot of information that comes through Port City here, and I'd heard plenty of how he'd slipped through the cracks. If I played it right, he wouldn't know it was coming." The daimyo sat back.
Kenji smiled again. "Well, he's not slipping through this time. Thank you very much for your help."

The daimyo was true to his word and less than an hour later, there were enough carriages outside of the inn to escort the women back to their villages. The first village was only about an hour away by carriage, but the second was quite a bit further than that. They managed to get all of the women home that day before sunset and even managed to get back to the inn later that night.
It had been hard to watch as they were reunited with their families. There were a few who seemed strained and Sakura wondered at that. She hoped that the lady didn't end up with a lot of problems because of what she had to do. She offered to stay and try to talk to their husbands and the other members of the villages, but they all said they just wanted to put it behind them. Sakura didn't think that it would be that easy, but she respected their wishes.
Back in Port City, they all stopped for something to eat. None of them had had anything really substantial in two days, so they opted for a large table at the barbecue restaurant. Between the five men and two women, they ordered pretty much everything on the menu.
There was still tension between Tenten, Kenji and Gai that was not helped by the fact that she was, once again, sandwiched in between them at the table. She ate mostly because she was very hungry and she knew that if she didn't, she would be dipping into the last of her chakra reserves if anything happened on the way back to the Leaf.
So she ate, but she didn't taste a thing. She could have been eating a box and would not have known the difference. Had she looked at herself in the mirror, she would have been startled by what she saw. She was pale, her face drawn with dark circles under her eyes. Even her usual tidy buns seemed to be drooping.
Kenji felt nothing but guilt for her, knowing he was the one to put the tension, pain and worry on her face. He wished he could take back his words the day before. He wished he hadn't told her he loved her. He did love her, he was sure of it, but he should have kept it to himself.
He tried to imagine what it would have been like to have to choose between two women that he loved and realized that he was. But they both weren't there and they weren't putting pressure on him to choose. The beef he'd been chewing turned to ash in his mouth.
He'd be leaving the next day. Yuki, Tan and Hitoshi wanted to go tonight, but there was news of a nasty storm that had kept the ships at dock. So, they were all stuck.
On one hand, he hoped she'd go with him. He wanted to be with her. On the other, he knew that she would be happy with Gai and should stay. The pain, confusion, tension - everything that she was dealing with would eventually go away. And he wasn't completely positive if it would with him. Would she always wonder? Would she always be thinking about Gai? And would she always think of him? Would she ever think of him, or would he fade into a distant and, maybe, fond memory?
Kenji had no idea that Gai was thinking similar thoughts. He wanted to take her pain away, wanted to fix it. He was even considering telling her to go. It would kill him, but she might feel better. In the end, however, what he really wanted was to be selfish. He wanted her with him, wanted her to love him. Even if it meant she'd always think about him for the rest of their lives. His barbecue suddenly didn't taste as good as it did when they'd been served.

Tenten and Gai made love again that night, so tenderly that she'd cried afterward. He'd held her close, whispered of his love in her ear as she fell asleep. They both slept poorly, as did Kenji, so everyone was glad when dawn crept over the horizon.
The ship would leave in a couple of hours, so there was a flurry of activity as Kenji and his team gathered their things and packed up. Hitoshi had next to nothing with him, but he spent the hours purchasing what would be required, even though he hadn't wanted to. Kenji had finally convinced him that he would be better able to find his sister if he had everything he needed.
An hour later, the four ninja stood on the docks with Kenji, Hitoshi, Yuki andTan. Kakashi and Sakura bid them farewell and Sakura hugged Hitoshi before they headed back down the pier. Gai turned to Yuki, Tan and Hitoshi and thanked them for their help before turning to Kenji. He didn't trust himself to say anything, he simply offered his hand and shook Kenji's when he took it. He stared at him another moment before turning to Tenten. "Could I talk to you for one moment?"
She looked between him and Kenji but followed him part way down the pier. "What is it?"
He paused and looked out to sea as he gathered his courage and thoughts. "I know what Kenji asked you. Do not..." he interrupted when she would. "Just listen. I know what he asked you." He looked back at her and she saw all the torment and pain that was inside her. "I want you to follow your heart. I love you, but I do not wish to trap you." He leaned over and kissed her on the forehead before walking to the end of the pier to join Kakashi and Sakura.
Tenten stared after him, tears streaming down her face. She took several deep breaths and worked to compose herself before turning back around. She swiped at her wet face, then walked back to where the four men stood. She addressed first Yuki and Tan. "Thank you for your help and all you've done. I hope you have a safe journey home."
Tan nodded solemly and glanced between her and Kenji. Yuki grinned and hugged her. "You bet. Hope we get to see you again soon." And, audaciously, he gave her a big smacking kiss before throwing a wave over his shoulder and heading up onto the deck.
Hitoshi smiled. "I'm glad I was able to help, for whatever I did." He hugged her and headed up to the ship.
Tenten took a deep breath before turning back to Kenji. She tried to give him a watery smile, but it fell very flat. "I'm sorry, Kenji. I can't go with you." She took another breath. "I do love you, but not in the way I love Gai."
She watched the play of emotions across his face, then he pulled her to him and kissed her. She felt it go through her, the kiss, but it wasn't the same, could never be the same. When they broke apart, he sighed. "I somehow knew you would say that. I'm sorry. I wish I had never..." he stopped when Tenten put her fingertips on his lips.
"This was very difficult for me. I won't hide that. But I am better for it all. My relationship with Gai will be stronger for it. I will think of you often, but you are not for me and I am not for you. Go home to your wife, take her out to dinner and remember why you fell in love with her in the first place." So saying, she kissed him once more, then stepped back from him. She watched as he smiled sadly, then headed up onto the ship.
When he was out of sight, she turned on her heel and ran as fast as she could down the pier. She jumped the last few feet straight into Gai's arms. He wrapped them tightly around her and crushed her lips with his. Her fingers speared through his hair and her legs wrapped around his waist and they stood that way, just kissing.
Finally, they broke apart and they both grinned at each other. "I love you."
Those simple three words were all he needed. He closed his eyes and fought the tears that threatened. "I love you, my blossom." He refused to set her down all the way back to the inn. When they didn't emerge from their room for several hours, Kakashi and Sakura thought it might be good to extend their stay another day or two.

Kakashi Hatake, famous Cop-Nin and almost-Hokage was scared to death of the woman in front of him. She was a good eight inches shorter than he was and definitely not a ninja, but he feared her. She stood in front of him, her arms crossed, her pink hair in a tight bun on top of her head and a very disapproving scowl on her face.
He cleared his throat and looked at the floor. "Oka..." Sakura nearly whined. "It's not his fault. It's mine."
She turned her head and raised one eyebrow. Sakura wilted and seemed to shrink into the couch. She glanced quickly to the side at Kakashi and it gave him the courage he needed.
"Haruno-san. I love her. And, for the record, I did ask her to marry me before we got pregnant. And we have the Hokage's blessing."
The woman turned her gaze back to Kakashi. "If I had a problem with this, it wouldn't matter if you had the daimyo, the Kages of all the Hidden Villages and everyone else's blessing."
Kakashi shrank further into the couch. He glanced sideways at Sakura, then back at her mother. Then her mother smiled. "But I don't have a problem with this. Sakura could hardly do better than a former Hokage, could she?"
"Well, technically, I was nev--" Sakura elbowed him in the ribs, cutting off his reply. "Oof."
"You more than have my blessing. But be warned, Hatake, if you hurt her..." she warned.
Kakashi held his hands up in surrender. "You won't have to worry about that. I think I would do more harm to myself if I did, than you could ever do."
She considered him another moment, then smiled again. "Welcome to the family."

Team Gai bowed to Tsunade as they accepted their next mission. They would be gone for several weeks. Kakashi and Sakura had handled the mission report from Port City and allowed Gai and Tenten a little more time alone together. However, as always, duty called and Team Gai was requested for another mission.
They had already pulled Neji and Lee aside before going to see Tsunade to tell them their news. Neji simply raised one eyebrow and said, "well, it's about time," then turned and continued up the stairs toward the offices. Lee had jumped up onto a nearby wall and started going on about the power of youth, but even Gai stopped him. They had not announced anything and would not until they discussed it with Tsunade.
Apparently, they needn't have worried. Tsunade simply grinned at them. "Excellent," was all she said before turning to the briefing. When the team had bowed and made their exit, Gai and Tenten holding hands, Tsunade held her hand out, palm up at Shizune.
Shizune grumbled, pulled some money out of the sleeve of her robe and plopped it down into Tsunade's hand. "So, you're buying dinner, then, right?"
Tsunade laughed, but there was a niggling doubt. Something ugly was coming, she knew it. After all, she'd just won a bet.
