The small group walked down the sidewalk as if they had nothing more on their mind than a late dinner or drinks. They talked amongst themselves, made jokes and laughed. A casual observer, and in fact even someone paying attention, would have no idea what they were looking at.
Gai, Kenji and Tenten were in front, walking together. Gai was on one side of Tenten and Kenji the other and it took all her will not to reach out and grasp hands. With either of them. Behind them were Kenji's two teammates that Tenten had learned were Tan and Yuki, and slightly behind them was Kakashi, bringing up the rear, his book out, seemingly bored with the goings on. No one watching would have any idea just how dangerous that group could be.
They turned a corner and half a block down, they dropped the act. They ducked into a small alley and Tenten dropped to her knee. She formed the hand signs, bit her thumb and ran it along the inside of her left arm. Kenji watched her curiously, and a few seconds later, she was holding two handfuls of kunai, which she passed to Gai. More hand signs, the other thumb and she had two fistfuls of shuriken. She tucked most of these in her pouch, handed a few each to Gai and Kakashi and retrieved her kunai.
Kenji was openly staring at her. "You never told me you could do that."
Tenten grinned. "You didn't ask. I'm a weapons mistress." She winked at him and turned back to Gai. "Let's go."
Back out of the alley and they moved quickly and silently toward Fushinji's building. Kenji stopped at the door and pulled a slim piece of metal out of his pocket and inserted it into the lock on the club door. A few seconds later, he pulled it out and opened the door.
He stepped to one side, Yuki to the other and they nudged the door open. Before they could do anything, Kakashi has slipped into the darkness. They waited, nearly holding their breath, then they heard a whispered, "all clear."
The group moved into the club and someone closed the door. They paused in the darkness briefly, then Tan pulled out a flashlight and lit it. He shone it over the club, but Tenten was already moving through it toward the door she'd gone through for the last time the night before.
She paused here, listening carefully. When she was sure there was no sound, she eased it open to the same concrete hallway that she had seen over and over again in her time there. She slipped through, and looked down each hall before whispering to the others.
She stopped for another moment and considered the hallways. "This way." She said and led them directly opposite of the club door. She made it through three more, but at one intersection, she was at a loss. She shook her head. "I don't know. I'm sorry."
"It is okay. This is where we split." Gai turned to Kakashi.
"You take one of Yuki and go left. Tenten, you and Kenji go straight. We'll take right." Kakashi said, and he took off.
Gai and Tenten looked at each other a brief second before taking off. She moved as quickly as she could and still be silent. When they reached the end of the hallway, she turned left, then another right and found herself at the dorm, after all. She touched the button on her neck. "I've found it." She gave brief directions, then glanced at Kenji.
He set up on one side, and she reached for the doorknob. Just as she did, however, the door was pulled open from the other side and the other guard that had been with Hitoshi and someone she'd never seen before came through the door, one of them adjusting their pants. Tenten checked her rage and dropped into her fighting stance.
The guards registered surprise for a split second. Then Tenten's kunai were aimed, one at each throat. "I'd stop right now, if I were you."
Kenji stood back, amused. When one of them glanced between Tenten and Kenji, Kenji saw his eye twitch, gauging whether or not he could make a break for it. Kenji simply smiled. "I really wouldn't."
The guy -- the one that had tried to take Tenten on her first night there -- didn't seem interested in the advice. He pivoted on one foot and turned, thinking that somehow he could get away from her. She pulled her hand back instead and embedded the knife in his shoulder. He howled in pain.
"I told you not to do that." Kenji said, before spinning with a kick and sending the guard to the floor. They turned to the other guy, who had his hands in the air.
"Don't hurt me!" He practically cried.
Tenten just looked at him with disgust. "No, maybe we should just give you the same treatment you gave to whichever woman you just left."
"She wanted it." He shouted.
Tenten would never be able to accurately describe the conscious decision to pull her fist back and plant it in the man's face. She'd broken his nose and very likely his jaw, as well. "You wanted that. Glad I could give it to you."
He crumpled to the floor and she stepped over him into the "dorm." "Remind me never to piss you off." Kenji said behind her.
She chuckled at him. The women were all still there, tied to their bunks. "Well, this is good news." She said quietly to Kenji. He nodded and they turned around.
"But now where do we go? Where's Fushinji?" Kenji mused aloud.
They were interrupted in their musings as Kakashi and Tan stepped through the door, followed a second later by Gai and Yuki. "He's not here yet," Kakashi said. "Probably won't be here until closer to when they plan to move them. Let's go find Sakura."
"I can help with that," a voice spoke up from the back of the room. They all turned. Hitoshi stepped out of the shadows at the back of the room.
"Hitoshi!" Tenten hurried over to him.
He smiled at her. "Hello. I thought you weren't just a captive. I'm glad I was right."
She smiled at him. "So, why are you here?"
His face turned serious. "My sister was taken by Fushinji. I am trying to find her, but she has already been...shipped out." He practically growled the last bit.
"I'm sorry." She touched his arm.
He took a minute to calm himself. "Follow me, I'll take you to her." When they went through the door, Hitoshi paused and looked down at the two men who'd passed out. "Good." Was all he said before heading down the hall.
Two hallways away, he pointed to a door and Kakashi nearly bowled everyone aside to get to it. The door wasn't locked, but Kakashi took no chances and he splintered it into a million pieces.
Sakura's shriek was cut off as Kakashi's arms came around her. She wrapped her arms around him and their lips crashed together. The rest of the group turned around to give them a moment, but when they didn't break apart, Gai cleared his throat.
They waited a few more seconds, and Tenten whistled. Another minute and Kenji looked at his watch and cleared his throat even louder. When that didn't work, Gai tapped Kakashi on the shoulder.
They gave it one more minute until Tenten finally said, "TODAY, YOU TWO!"
They finally broke apart and turned to the rest of the group. "Sorry." Kakashi had the grace to blush.
"We need to get the women out of here and somewhere safe. And..." Tenten paused. "And you'll need to heal a couple of people," she said with a blush. Sakura raised an eyebrow at her, but said nothing.
"Let's go." Kenji said and led the way back to the dorm.
Sakura stopped in front of the first guy. "What did he do?"
Tenten squatted next to him. "Let's just say he was adjusting himself when he came through the door."
Sakura stared at her for a second, then looked back down at him. "Hrm. I don't see anything to heal here." She stood up and moved over to the other guy, and sighed. "Did you have to leave the kunai buried in his shoulder?" She pulled it out, concentrated her chakra and healed the wound. Mostly. She shook her head and stood up.
"Okay, let's go." Back in the dorm they went, and started untying everyone. Hitoshi, Yuki and Tan were tasked with getting the women out of the building and over to the inn. Sakura ran back to her "office" and gathered the medical supplies and stuffed them back into the box, then gave it to Hitoshi. "Here, in case anyone needs something. I'll see to them when we are finished here."
It was a slow process, moving the women back outside. They were still lethargic, so they had trouble walking, even knowing that they were being rescued. Finally, they were outside and on their way to the inn. The four ninja and Kenji headed back into the building for Fushinji.
They found Fushinji's office from the inside and, after finding it empty, Kakashi and Sakura took up watch there. Kenji, Gai and Tenten headed out to search the rest of the place for signs of others. As they moved through the hallways, they finally had a basic layout in their minds. They didn't find any more "dorms" or anything of the like, but they found many more offices and tons of what appeared to be unused rooms.
As they turned a corner in the back of the building , they came upon several men waiting by what looked to be the doorway to a loading dock. They paused and ducked back quickly. "Did anyone catch how many?" Tenten whispered.
Gai shook his head, but Kenji spoke up. "Eight. Two for Tenten to take out from a distance, then two for each of us to fight." He grinned.
Tenten grinned with him, and Gai's eyes lit up with the anticipation of the upcoming battle. He jumped up and stuck out his thumb in his patented "nice guy pose." "Let us get started!"
Tenten rolled her eyes and poked him in the ribs. "Shhh!" She stood up and pulled Gai back. "Stay here. Listen for my signal." She pulled two kunai out of her pouch and hid them along her arms, then started down the hall.
Gai and Kenji looked at each other, but Gai shrugged. Kenji just shook his head and listened.
"Hello. Um. I, um, seem to be lost." Tenten was doing a pretty good imitation of Hinata. Gai grinned.
One of the men spoke up. "What are you doing out here? How did you get out?" He started toward her.
"I'm here to see you. Come on, boys!" She shouted and flipped the kunai and stuck them into the one talking to her and another to her right. She spun on her toes and kicked out at another one, who was still sitting in shock at the start of the fight.
She saw Gai out of the corner of her eye as he started in on the two men to her left and Kenji passed her on the right to take the two toward the back. As she turned towards the last one, he knelt at her feet. "Please! Please!" He begged. "Don't hurt me!"
She stopped and squatted in front of him. "Give me one reason why I shouldn't."
"Please! Please! I don't really like this stuff, I mean, I'm a good guy! Really! I just...needed the money! Yeah!"
Tenten let him blubber for another minute before she raised her hand and knocked him on the back of the head. He passed out and fell face first onto the floor. She turned to see Gai and Kenji standing over their opponents, all of which were passed out.
"I'm going to need to find the local authorities for these guys." Kenji said. "I don't have that kind of jurisdiction here."
Gai smiled. "Technically, we can be considered the local authorities. This area is under our protection. But they have a local daimyo and we will get in touch with them. We'll need a place to keep them." They found some rope on one of the shelves along the wall and quickly tied them all up. One of the guys started to wake up, but Gai knocked him out again.
Back through the building, they found Fushinji's office again. Kakashi and Sakura stood when they got back. "Hey! Are you okay?" Sakura hurried over and stared at the blood all over Tenten.
"I'm fine. It's not mine." She grinned.
"No, it belonged to..." Kenji paused as if to count, "the four men who are now tied up in the loading area."
Sakura laughed. "You go girl!"
Tenten grinned, but that was the moment that Fushinji chose to appear. "I knew it. I knew something was up with you two."
He was staring right at Kakashi and Sakura. He smiled thinly. "Ninja? I should have known. The daimyo promised me he had no ninja village here. He said, specifically, that we would be safe here."
Kakashi smiled wolfishly. "There isn't a ninja village in this area. But it is under the protection of the most powerful ninja village in this part of the world. And you pissed off the wrong people."
Gai moved around to the other side of Fushinji. Kenji took one side and Kakashi the other, leaving the two women standing in front of him. He glanced over them each in turn and dismissed them immediately. He glanced at Kakashi. "So, you think you can arrest me?"
Kenji cleared his throat. "No, that would be me."
Fushinji spun around to glare at him. "You have no jurisdiction here."
Kenji grinned. "No, but I have the daimyo's assistance in extraditing you. And I have jurisdiction in our home country."
"That is, of course," Gai added, "if you survive."
In an almost comical way, Fushinji spun again to face Gai, leaving his back open to the girls. "You can't kill me!" He yelled.
Gai just shook his head. "I have no intention of killing you."
"There are much better ways of handling this." Kakashi interjected.
"Just leave enough for me to arrest." Kenji piped up.
The three men turned to Sakura and Tenten, who looked at each other. "Just leave a little for me," Tenten said.
Sakura smiled. "Oh, no, you first. I'll heal him up and take my turn!"
"Excellent." Tenten replied and turned back to Fushinji.
He curled his lip at them, clearly unaware of the real danger he was in. Tenten stepped forward, stalking him as she pulled kunai out of her pouch. "Let's see..." she said. She turned on her heel, pretending to walk away, then spun back with the kunai and launched it at him, sinking it into his shoulder.
He screamed and looked around wildly. "You can't do this to me! Stop them," he pleaded with the men.
"Stop them?" Kenji asked. "Why ever would I do that? I'm not about to come between her and her knives." He smiled and leaned back against the side of the wall.
Just as Fushinji turned back, Tenten landed another kunai into the other shoulder. Next, she had several shuriken in her hand and moving so fast, that he almost couldn't see her, she had embedded them in his thighs, knees and feet, going right through his shoes.
He screamed again, but she wasn't done. She danced around him, her rage clear on her face and started on him from the back. More kunai, carefully placed, damaging no major organs. Shuriken in his thighs and calves, followed up with a kick and several punches. Then she pulled the blades out of his back and pushed him over, where he lay, screaming and sobbing. Tenten stood back, brushed her hands together and said to Sakura, "your turn."
Sakura moved up to him and squatted next to him. "She did a pretty good job on you." She looked him over, cataloguing the major wounds, then said, "I'm sorely tempted to just leave you like this. But that's not enough for me."
She channeled her chakra to her hands and began healing the major wounds. It didn't take her long to take care of the front, then she rolled him over and healed his back. He stopped moaning and struggled against her, but he had no idea what kind of strength she really had.
"Now, I believe it's my turn." She said, and pulled back her fist.
Before she could land it, he spoke. "Is that all you can do? Punch me?"
Gai, Kakashi and Tenten all started laughing. Kenji continued to lean back and watch. "What? What is so funny?"
Sakura shook her head. "You really should learn some manners." And she swung her chakra-infused fist, pulling it only slightly before it connected with his face. She felt the satisfying crunch of his bones and stood up as the blood squirted from his broken nose and broken teeth. She doubted he'd have many left after that.
She smiled up at Kakashi and Gai. "You can have him now."
Kakashi turned to Gai. "You can have him. I'd prefer to get to the next chapter in my book." So saying, he pulled out Icha Icha and proceeded to step on Fushinji's hand. He heard a satisfying crunch as he walked past him. He settled down against a wall behind Sakura and Tenten and began reading.
Fushinji was gurgling through the blood in a pathetic attempt at screaming when Gai squatted over him. He glanced up at Kenji. "Would you like to do anything?"
Kenji considered the man. "No. I'll get mine when I see him in prison."
Gai nodded, then picked up Fushinji by his clothing, pulled his fist back and slammed it into Fushinji's gut.
He choked and spit teeth and blood all over the place. "That is for me." He said in a low voice to Fushinji, then he pulled back and kicked him hard in his left kneecap. "That is for Kenji." He pulled his foot back and slammed it into Fushinji's other knee. "That is for all the other women you have treated so horribly." And he reached forward with his hand and squeezed it around Fushinji's genitals. Slowly, so that Fushinji couldn't pass out, he crushed them with his hand. "And that is for my wife."
He dropped him back on the floor, where Fushinji lay, sobbing. Sakura stepped up and healed him all over again, except for his genitals. They would heal on their own in time and it was the least he deserved for all he'd done.
Kenji stepped up to him. "You have the right to remain silent. I suggest you use it." He pulled Fushinji up and turned him around, then took a piece of the rope he had brought from the other fight and began tying him up. Gai, Tenten and Kakashi helped him, then they hauled him out of the building.
