Kakashi woke the next morning feeling like he'd been run over by one of Naruto's Multi-Shadow Clone hordes. He rolled onto his back and stared at the ceiling for a few minutes, trying to gather his strength. He needed to be strong for Sakura today and sharp for Gai and Tenten, not this mess of a shinobi that he was at that moment.
He sat up and scrubbed his hands over his face before stumbling into the shower, hoping the hot water would help. He stood under the hot spray, letting the pressure of the water beat on his skin, melting some of the tension from his shoulders. He cleaned up quickly and stepped out of the shower.
He pulled on the same things he'd been wearing since they'd arrived in Port City: plain pants and shirt. He still did not want to look too much like a ninja, but he'd need to be comfortable today. As he was toweling his hair off, there was a knock on the door.
Kakashi opened it to Gai and Tenten. Gai looked...determined and Kakashi had a feeling he knew what it was about. Tenten's eyes were red again, as if she'd been crying. Kakashi couldn't wait to get his hands on Fushinji for all that they were going through.
Tenten went into the bathroom as soon as she came in and Kakashi concentrated on putting his shoes on and attempting to comb his hair to give her a few more minutes. He didn't know exactly what had happened, but he had some suspicions. He had nothing but sympathy for them. He couldn't imagine what it would have been like if it were Sakura.
At that moment, there was another knock on the door, but Gai beat him to it. As he opened it, he held his hand out and shook the man's. "Come in."
A tall man with dark hair and blue eyes stepped in. Gai turned toward Kakashi. "This is Kenji."
Kakashi stepped forward and shook the man's hand. "Hello. I'm Kakashi."
He nodded in reply and glanced around the room, curiously. When Tenten emerged from the bathroom a few seconds later, Kakashi saw the look in his eyes. Kenji was quick to hide it, but Kakashi saw it and the pieces clicked into place.
Tenten gave him a tremulous smile. "Hi, Kenji."
He smiled back at her. "Hi, Tenten. I'm sorry...um...Mrs...?" He looked from Gai to Tenten.
"'Tenten' is fine." Gai said.
"Right, um. The elderly lady downstairs has set the dining room up for us to use for planning and she's prepared a breakfast. Is that okay with you?"
Murmurs of agreement went around and Kenji turned toward the door. "One minute, please, Kenji." This was from Gai. He turned toward Tenten and Kakashi. "Could I have a minute with him?"
Kakashi turned toward the door and opened it for Tenten. He would have given quite a bit to be a fly on that wall, but instead he escorted Tenten down to the dining room and prayed that Gai wouldn't destroy the inn.

Gai waited until he could hear the footsteps retreat to the stairs before he started, but Kenji spoke first. "I am sorry."
Gai paused a minute and considered him. "There is nothing to be sorry about. Not from you. Fushinji will answer to me for putting you and Tenten in that position and I have some apologizing to do, but it is not your fault.
Kenji looked puzzled. "I'm sorry?"
Gai motioned toward the chairs and when Kenji sat in one, he took the other. "I have been in the situation that you and Tenten were in. I knew it could have happened and I did not warn her or do anything to prepare her for it."
Kenji thought that over. "I have never had it happen like that before. I have had to have sex with someone to maintain my cover. But..." he paused and looked at Gai again. "I've never been attracted to them like I was to Tenten," he finished.
Gai smiled. "I may be biased, but I believe anyone would have to be insane if they were not attracted to her. But actually, I would like to thank you."
Kenji looked stunned. "Thank me?"
Gai nodded. "You did help her quite a bit to deal with it. And, if nothing else, she now knows how to handle a situation like this."
Kenji looked down at his hands and tried to process what this man was saying. Gai had no idea the depth of attraction Kenji had for Tenten, but he was not going to let on. She was not someone he would forget soon.
"I...wish I could have done more." It was all he could think of to say.
"I think you have plenty of your own things to deal with." Gai stood and held out his hand. Kenji stood , too and shook the offered hand.
"That is true. Well, should we join the others?" He was still somewhat uncomfortable about the conversation, and was anxious to end it.
"Yes, but one more thing. She is no longer in need of cover. And she is not yours." Kenji was actually relieved to hear that and noted the possessive look in the man's eyes.
Kenji grinned. "And you are a very lucky man." He turned and opened the door and together they headed down to the meeting.

Sakura was slowly going insane. She was convinced of it. She missed Kakashi intensely, and she was worried about Tenten. Hitoshi had told her last night that she had been "purchased," but nothing more.
She'd measured the exact dimensions of the room, having paced it more times than she could count. She'd gone to the bathroom a dozen or more times, even though she didn't need to. She'd checked each of the women being held in "the dorm" twice already that day and, according to Hitoshi, it wasn't yet past ten in the morning. She counted, recounted and reorganized her supplies and made and remade the little cot. And she was up to some three hundred different creative ways to kill Fushinji.
She was, in a word, bored. At this point, she was seriously considering saying to hell with her cover, and throw a chakra-infused fist through the walls until she found the outside. When the urge hit her, she started exercising until it passed, but it was a near thing.
When she'd thought of ten more new ways to kill Fushinji and was working on the eleventh, Hitoshi stepped into the room. Sakura practically leapt off of the cot. "Hello!"
Hitoshi actually took a step back when she jumped up. "Hi."
Sakura blushed. "Sorry, I'm going a little stir crazy. What do you need?"
Hitoshi looked up and down the hallway, then closed the door and turned back to her. "I have some information for you."
Sakura raised an eyebrow, but said nothing and waited.
He cleared his throat. "The man who 'purchased' your friend is an investigator from Fushinji's home country. Fushinji doesn't know this, and I am not going to tell him. I'm…I'm not here because I like it, or anything." He paused and considered her a moment, before coming to a decision. "I know you are not what you say you are - a simple doctor. I don't know what you are, but that doesn't matter at the moment. My sister was kidnapped by Fushinji's men and I'm here to find her."
Sakura leaned back against the table. "I figured it was something like that. You didn't seem the kind to enjoy this type of work." She ran her hands through her hair. "I am a ninja." She paused when she saw his eyes widen. "Where are you from?"
"Land of the Rice Paddies." He kept his face expressionless, but Sakura knew the area well.
"I take it you are remembering Orochimaru and the Sound Village. We are not like that." Her lips compressed into a thin line. "I am from the Hidden Leaf Village."
Hitoshi's face cleared. "That would explain your husband."
Sakura smiled. "He's not my husband - yet. We were posing as married and…anyway, so is Tenten and her husband. We're all from the same place."
Hitoshi nodded. "I have heard of that place. I live in the village above what used to be Sound. Jiraiya had done quite a bit for our village. Anyway, your friend and the investigator left last night. The rest of the women will be moved later tonight. I hope that they come back today."
Sakura thought it over. "I expect they will be. I don't have any clue what their plan would be, but keep an eye out for anything suspicious and let me know."
He nodded again. "I wondered…if you're a ninja, how do you know so much about medicine?"
Sakura smiled. "I'm a medic ninja. My shishou is one of the most famous medical nins among all the hidden villages."
"Well. Um, I'll let you know as soon as I know something." He turned to leave, then turned back around. "Oh! I found this and thought you might appreciate it." He pulled a book out of the back pocket of his pants. "It's not much, and probably boring, but I thought it would be something."
It was a book of old classic stories, one she'd read cover to cover when she was young. She knew every story by heart, but she looked up at Hitoshi. "Thank you." Impulsively, she hugged him before settling onto her cot with the book.
When he hadn't moved, she glanced up at him and he was blushing and staring at her. He cleared his throat and left quickly.
Sakura turned to the book again. Taking a deep breath and settling more on the cot, she began to read.

Breakfast was awkward in the beginning. While they were sitting around the table eating their food, there was little talk. Kenji couldn't seem to stop looking at Tenten who was doing her best to concentrate on her soup. Gai's gaze travelled often between Kenji and Tenten while occasionally meeting Kakashi's eye and exchanging a knowing look.
Tenten felt like screaming. The tension in the air was so thick, Tenten was tempted to summon a kunai that very moment and try to cut it.
Kenji's teammates had joined them. Both were shorter than he, with dark hair and dark eyes. They had friendly smiles and sharp looks about them. Tenten didn't want to cross them in a dark alley, ninja or not.
Even with the extra men and Kakashi on the side opposite Gai, it was still very tense. She finished her soup, pushed her bowl away and sighed. She wanted to cry again. She wanted to scream. She wanted to storm the damned building Fushinji was in and kill him right that very minute.
She could do none of the above and it was wearing on her. She'd only been out for a few hours, but she almost wished she was back in there. It was a hell of a lot simpler than this was. She took another deep breath and looked up at Kenji.
Being back with Gai had helped her to put her emotions into a better perspective. Kenji was handsome, a wonderful guy and great in bed. And she nearly blushed when she thought of that. But he was not her husband, she loved and was happy with Gai and that was that. She didn't love Kenji.
She also didn't want to hurt him. And though it would make her feel much better to touch and cuddle with Gai, she had a feeling it would hurt Kenji. She sighed again at the mess they were in.
The others finished their food shortly after she did and the older lady came out to collect the dishes. She paused next to Tenten and rested her hand on her shoulder. "You've done good." She said to her and Tenten had a feeling she wasn't referring to the soup.
She collected the rest, saving Kenji for last. As she took his bowl, she rested her hand on his shoulder as well. She didn't say anything, just squeezed it in her gnarled old hands, but Tenten thought she saw the sadness in his eyes lift a little.
Gai spoke up. "Okay, let us get this moving."
Kenji turned to Tenten. "How much do you know about the interior of the building?"
Tenten frowned. "Not much, actually. There is a very complex network of corridors throughout the building and none of it seems to make much sense."
Kakashi pulled out a scroll he'd brought with him. He unrolled it and spread it on the table. It was a diagram of the outside of the building. "You and Sakura were taken in here." He said, and pointed to a doorway.
Tenten studied the scroll. Kenji spoke up. "This is where the entrance to their club is." And he tapped his finger on another door.
Tenten closed her eyes to think it through. "I was out when we were taken in. Sakura said they inspected us, then took us straight to the jail cell. I have no idea how far in the cell was, though." She opened her eyes and looked at the club entrance. "This area is pretty big. There is a stage and a dressing area off to the side." She turned the paper. She pointed again, "If the club faces this way, then the hallway we're brought through comes in here," and she tapped the paper. "It only took us a few minutes to walk from the dorm to the club."
"Dorm?" Gai asked.
Tenten blushed. "It's what we called the room they kept us in. It was large, with two rows of beds and a small area set aside for the virgins." Her face turned even redder, but she concentrated on the paper. "As far as I know, the club isn't used until the evenings."
"Fushinji will spend the better part of the day at his offices. He'll go home for dinner, then come back to the building for the evening." Kakashi set his tea cup down and sat forward. "He goes in through this door here." He pointed to a place on the other side of the building.
"Okay, well. Tenten, do you think you could find your way back to the dorm from the club?" Kenji asked her.
Tenten considered it carefully, but shook her head. "Maybe part of the way. But it's so confusing in there - it all looks the same."
"I wish Sai was here." Kakashi mumbled.
Tenten laughed. "Oh yeah, he wouldn't stick out or anything."
Kakashi conceded the point. "Okay, so, here's how this should go."

Sakura had finished the book and curled up to get herself some rest. Another day, even a partial one, of waiting to do nothing had gotten to her a bit. When she woke up, it was to Hitoshi shaking her shoulder.
"Fushinji would like you to check everyone over again. They are to be taken down to the boats in a few hours." He looked worried. "I have not seen anything, yet, either."
Sakura sat up and rubbed her face with her hands. "Let me go to the bathroom, then I'll take a look at them. And they may not move until later," she said, referring to her friends.
She quickly went to the bathroom and washed her face with cold water. Feeling better, she headed back to the dorm and realized along the way that she'd learned at least those few hallways well. She filed it away and concentrated on the women.
They were all just as they'd been. The one woman who'd been beaten two nights ago had healed except for yellowing of one bruise. She'd come back the night before from inspection. No one else had been subject to the same treatments.
So, aside from being groggy from the sedative, they were fine. She turned back to Hitoshi. "No change." She shrugged. "Do you know what time?"
"Nightfall. He'll wait until most people are in bed."
Sakura nodded. "Then we've got a few hours." She headed back to her office and sat back on the cot. "You won't know they're coming until they're inside. What time is it?"
He glanced at his watch. "Two-thirty. You missed lunch. Are you hungry?"
Sakura smiled. "Yes, actually."
Hitoshi hurried out and Sakura stood up to pace. She figured that if they were going to come in, it would be right at dusk. That gave her five more hours. She sighed and sat down to wait for Hitoshi to return.
