The outskirts of the private compound was dead quiet. There were no noises, not even the sound of the nightly insects that would fill the void with ambient humming from their leafy homes. Walking the dirt path toward the main west gate of the village, Naruto remained silent. The shaking hands were shoved deeply into pants pockets with the blond head slumped down to watch his own steps. Sasuke had been walking a few steps ahead, his crimson eyes scanning around for signs of life. Upon reaching the gate, he waited for Naruto to catch up. "Come on." Holding out his hand, Sasuke stood by for it to be taken. Out of arms length, Naruto stopped walking entirely. "Sasuke, do you believe it was really her?" The question had been on the tip of his tongue this entire time. Dropping the hand, the other man took a step closer. "Do you honestly want my opinion?" The words stung at the already frustrated ninja, who looked away while biting more into the swollen bottom lip. Closing blue eyes, Naruto gave a nod. "I do." Taking another step forward, Sasuke put his hands upon his lover's shoulders. Leaning forward, the cool forehead touched with the face that wouldn't look him in the eyes. The Sharingan faded into the inky voids that were Sasuke's worried eyes. Slowly, a hand came up to touch a striped cheek. Petting it with a caressing thumb, his soft voice spoke. "I...believe she is capable of living out the darkness in her heart, just like I did. She has...a sickness that I know only too well, Naruto. I said something foolish to her a long time ago, and even though I've tried my best to display my feelings, there is something that blinds her." Though the blue eyes opened, they still avoided Sasuke's gaze. Naruto's hand came up to touch the one that was petting his cheek, holding it there for comfort. "I know that. I try not to think too deeply about it, but I know it's there. It's my..." Cupping the other hand to Naruto's face as well, Sasuke was able to move it so their eyes finally met. "It's not your fault, it's mine." Staring, Naruto wanted to argue the point, but couldn't. Still, how could he agree to that without sounding bitter? Giving a sad smile, Sasuke pulled away. With his back turned, he kept speaking. "I've...tried to think of what you would do. How would you react to her constant advances. I've tried to be gentle for your sake, but..." It was Sasuke's turn to avoid the look that Naruto was giving him then. "Constant...advances?" Lowering his head, Sasuke laughed bitterly. "Don't tell me you don't know about it? Whenever you aren't around, even just the other day. When she got me alone in her office, she kissed me. I didn't kiss back, but I didn't push her off. I let her get it out of her system, but I was really mad. I might have...been more cruel than I wanted to be." Pausing, he turned then. "Or should I say, I was nicer than I wanted to be about it." The blond eyebrows furrowed, reaching out to grab Sasuke's hand. Pulling him close, the grip tightened in anger. "She kissed you? On the mouth? Why didn't you tell me?" Sighing, Sasuke jerked away. "Because I was trying to act like you! You get mad at me if I tell her off! If I told her that I can't stand the sight of her. Every time I see her, she pisses me off. If I tell her anything she doesn't want to hear, I'm the fucking bad guy with you!" Turning again, Sasuke only held his face in a palm. "That's...That's why I think she's in over her head. Kabuto will tell you whatever you want to hear, if it means he gets something out of it. She...What am I suppose to do? If I don't do what she wants, then you get mad at me. Why do you always take her side..." Naruto could suddenly feel the pressure in Sasuke's heart. The sadness and guilt was filling them both. "I'm...I'm sorry...Sasuke...it's not your fault..." The pain was great, as if Sasuke had been carrying this jealousy for a long time. Reaching out, Naruto pulled his grieving lover into a warm hug. "I...I don't mean to take it out on you, Sasuke." Relaxing in the arm, Sasuke only remained still. "She never understood what I meant when I thanked her for being there for me that night. I didn't mean that I loved her...but that I understood her feelings for me. Those confused, obsessed, chaotic, heartbreaking feelings. Those...are the feelings I have for you. She was able to express them and I wasn't...that's what I meant. I just..." Rubbing the ruffled black hair, Naruto only smiled. "Well, you know me. I'm stupid. I chased you to the ends of the earth. But she...she never reached you, did she? We're terrible people." Giving an exhausted laugh, Sasuke nodded. "Yeah." Leaning in, Naruto rubbed noses gently. "But it makes me really happy to hear you confess to me still. Do you know that?" Flushed, Sasuke scoffed. "That's because you're an idiot." Grinning with a nod, the blond had to agree. "Yeah, so don't worry. If Sakura did something stupid, I'll talk her out of it. From one idiot to another. If I can pull you from the depth of Hell, I'm sure I can handle some women issues..." Looking into Naruto's eyes, Sasuke frowned a bit. "There's nothing you're going to be able to say to stop her, Naruto. This...let me do this for you, alright?" The force smile from the blond faded, because he knew Sasuke was right. Still, Naruto just wanted to protect his friends. Both of them. A hand came to pet Sasuke's cheek as another smile came creeping in. It was a much sadder smile, as he knew he wasn't going to win this argument. "Well, we'll see. Let's head to the hos...pital?" The sky lit up as explosion erupted from an upper story window of the tall building. In the fray of smoke, fire, and broken glass, four ninja stood on the tattered floor. It was a two versus two battle. To one side were two Anbu members, exhausted from a fight that seemed have been going on for some time. On the other were equally exhausted hooded ninja, one noticeable shorter than the other. With a grin, the smaller of the hooded fighters tightened their gloved fists. Glowing from power, the ninja charged forward. One of the Anbu members jumped away, pulling out a scroll to make a quick ink sketch of a imperial lion. The beast came to life, jumping over the charging enemy to attack the hood who remained in the back. Putting an arm out, a large snake came forth to tangle with the drawing. The remaining Anbu faced their assailant head on, ducking the powered fist that came. Afterwards, several open palmed hand movements pushed the attacker back. "We're leaving. I got what I needed." The snake bearer turned, looking out the massive hole in the wall. Below him, he could see the figures of Naruto and Sasuke looking up. The other hooded member nodded, turning to look down to the ground as well. Sasuke's eyes turned red, extending the vision much further than normal. It was because of this, he was able to make out the faces. "...Kabuto...and...Sakura." "Sakura! Stop! You don't have to do this!" Neji yelled through his Anbu mask before they could make their escape. Turning, Sakura removed the black hood. A devious smile was still on her face as a vial was tossed to what remained of the hospital floor. It shook up as it rattled, making Sai run to tackle Neji out of the way. Once the contents mixed, the vial exploded. As the flames shot out of the already destroyed side of the building, Kabuto and Sakura landed only a few feet away from her friends. Glaring, Naruto was about to run up before a hand came to stop him. Stepping forward, Sasuke's eyes stared to the woman and her accomplice. "So it's true. What did Kabuto promise you that made you turn?" Kabuto only smiled, deciding to remain quiet. Taking a step forward, Sakura's face was not that of someone who struggling with her feelings. It was cold, heartless, and broken. "You. You never gave a shit about me, Sasuke. You have no idea what I went through for you! All I wanted was to help you and this village, and no matter what I did, I was laughed at! Do you have any idea how hard I fought to get you back? But all that work, and for what? You ran away together like some damn fairy tale!" The mighty fists of chakra tightened and glowed, illuminating the darkness. "Tsunade then pushes me to marry Gaara, for the good of the village. No one gave a damn about what I wanted! Well...not that it matters. You're all going to die anyway." Unable to hold his tongue anymore, Naruto pushed Sasuke's hand away. "We always thought about you! We know what you did for us! I wanted you to be happy, we both did! Why are you doing this?!" Stunned at first, Sakura started to laugh. It was a loud, cold laugh of madness that finally stopped. "Hey, Naruto. Did you know I was pregnant?" The anger in Naruto's voice was suddenly gone. "...What?" Smiling softly, the pink haired woman came up to him. Tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, she leaned towards her former lover. "That night..I came to you. You fucked me and took my virginity. It's not like you pulled out, you came inside. It was a few months later, I found out I was with child." The blond looked frightened, his eyes twitching. Sasuke's heart was racing as well, but his face only showed it less. "What....do you mean, was?" Draping arms like a succubus, Sakura leaned against Naruto's chest. "I miscarried on in the 6th month. It was a boy. My body couldn't handle the stress...of you...of Sasuke...so my baby boy died. I buried him alone. The blood of mine and yours together...at least, I thought about burying him. That was when Kabuto came to me. Cold as a snake, he asked for my baby. I couldn't say no. He was the only one who wanted him." Pulling away then, she turned with a coy shrug. "That's where he got his sample of you. The creation of life and death...I started to work at the hospital and..."There was a stumble as Neji came from the ruins, holding an injured Sai from one arm. "That's where you started to smuggle blood and samples to Kabuto..." Coughing, Neji fell to one knee. His body was badly burned, though Sai had covered him protectively from the chemical blast. Sasuke turned to look at them, before his eyes turned back to Sakura. "So the Anbu were investigating you...they came to attack us to get you out of hiding..." Sakura smirked again. "I was a bit careless with letting an assistant catch me forging documents. And a little more surprised when you showed up with the twins. That lover of Gaara's did a good job of smuggling them away. Lucky for me to have found them, right Kabuto?" Pushing his glasses, Kabuto only gave a nod. "Indeed." Giggling, Sakura moved to wrap herself around Kabuto's arm. Looking up, she was enamored and noticeably obsessed. A scaly hand came up to ruffle the pink hair affectionately, making the woman only smile more. "We should leave." "Yes." Sakura easily agreed to Kabuto's request. Naruto stood helpless. He was in shock. His heart was in turmoil, his body frozen with fear. Even as Sasuke grabbed and shook him, there was no response. Without Naruto to stop him, there was nothing to hold back the rage that was in Uchiha. The red eyes flaring, both hands sparked with the force of the Chidori. Wielding duel, lightning induced swords, he attacked. Only turning slightly, Kabuto's body was suddenly protected by Sakura's kunai. Sasuke jumped back, yelling with all his might. "MOVE! I don't want to fight you!" Sakura remained in her defensive position as Kabuto continued to walk away. Gripping the swords, Sasuke only looked down, his power flaring. "...Fine. I should of done this a long time ago. Lunging again, Sasuke broke the bonds that held him back. Every attack and swipe was aimed to kill. Though Sakura held her own, she was no match for Sasuke. Her body sustained a series of cuts, her fist getting slower through the power of the Sharingan. Kabuto had disappeared into the darkness as Sakura stood bleeding. One of her arms was shredded down from shoulder to wrist, her side cut as blood from a wound in her head leaked into her eyes. Panting, her vision was blurred. "You...You always wanted to kill me. Ever since that day...you never loved me. Always...Always...you ignored my feelings!" With a final desperate attack, she came forth. Sasuke stood, ready to strike her down as soon as she came in range. Pulling the fist back, it came forward and made impact. However, the target no longer Sasuke. Even if it was the only thing that he could do, Naruto had stepped in front of Sasuke and taken the blow directly to his face. Sasuke had seen him, the Chidori was already dispelled. Surprised, Sakura jumped back as the blue eyes turned to look at her coldly. "You...you never understood the feelings of other people, Sakura. If you had my child, I would of taken care of him. I would of loved you as the mother and the child as my son. But, you're right. Even as I loved you, Sasuke is my life. But it's the same, isn't it? I was never a match for Sasuke when it came to your eyes." Taking a step forward made the woman step back. " I'm sorry that makes you sad, but you can't go ruining the lives of other people because of it." The light green eyes watered over, feeling the harshness of Naruto's tone deep within her soul. "That...I know that...but..But it doesn't matter! I hate you! I hate you both! I wish I never met you! Why couldn't you both have died! Naruto would be a hero and Sasuke the villain. People would live peacefully in your memory just like a story!" Scrambling, she turned to run. A vial came from her hand, exploding into smoke. When it cleared, she was gone. Sasuke looked upon Naruto's back. The blond was staring off in the distance in Kabuto's and Sakura's direction. As Sasuke's hand want up to touch him, Naruto spoke. "I bet she was very sad when she saw Shino. He would look like the child she lost." Looking to Sasuke as he turned, the blue eyes were overrun with tears. "Sasuke, let's go home okay?" Nodding, Sasuke moved to help Sai and Neji as fire trucks and onlookers circled the area. Lost in the crowd of friends and strangers, the sun slowly started to rise.
