Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto! I make no money off of this! |
REMINDER:This story takes place in Darkprism's Monoshizukanohi Universe. Though the appearances of Monoshizukanohi locations in this series of stories is minor, it does exist and that world belongs to her. She graciously allows me to play. Crossover of our storylines is purely coincidental, all on me and no reflection whatsoever of any canonization of my stories into her world, unless she says otherwise. Some places and characters do belong to me including Narita Kenji, Jake Nimitz, the Red Dragon, Clover Leaf, Kaishoku, etc. The Naruto boys belong to Kishi and Renji belongs to Tite Kubo. That enough CYA? Good. XD
SECONDLY: Though it can be read WITHOUT reading "Changes," it is highly recommended that you read "Changes" before you read this. That said, it is *also* recommended that you read Darkprism's "Altering Affection," "Undercurrents" and at *least* part IV of "Rhythm & Bruise." "Changes runs chronologically concurrently with "Rhythm & Bruise."
Thirdly, real warnings for this chapter: Humor, references to f/f relationship, that's about it. O.O I know, I'm shocked, too.
"Do you have the food?" Kotetsu asked as he closed the trunk and hefted his bag.
"Yup," Izumo said, holding up the bag with the bucket in it. "I have the games, too. Do we have everything, then?"
"Eh, if not, I'll get it after dinner. Come on, I'm starving." Kotetsu lifted his suitcase up onto the sidewalk and led the way to the house. It took a bit of maneuvering to get through the door, both of them trying to juggle too many bags and running into each other, but they managed it, finally.
Izumo went straight to the kitchen and set the food down on the table. "I'm going to go get Mom."
"Okay, I'll get plates," Kotetsu said and headed for the cabinet.
Izumo rounded the corner and started down the hall toward the bedroom. He thought he heard voices and frowned, but his mom's door was open, so he filed it away as probably the TV and stepped into the room.
And stopped dead, his mouth dropping open in pure shock.
Hana was sitting up on the bed, her arms around her friend Masami. Masami's arms were wrapped around his mother and… they were kissing. Not pecks on the cheek or anything like that, either. No, Izumo was fairly certain he could see tongue. And then his mother's hand came around Masami's body and cupped a breast and Izumo was fairly certain he was going to… die. Or throw up. Or something.
"Mom?!" He squeaked. He figured it was enough of a shock to his system to see his mother kissing anyone, much less another woman , that he was allowed to squeak. Once. He needed to move. Leave. Call for her from the other end of the house. Or planet. Or maybe solar system. Was galaxy far enough? He didn't think so. But he couldn't seem to get his feet unglued from the floor. He cleared his throat - loudly - and tried again. "Mom?"
But his mother didn't move and neither did her… girlfriend. Izumo blinked and could feel the heat rise on his face as he stared at his mother. He had no idea what to do with this. He was about to finally find a way to move - though he didn't know what he was going to do other than get away - when he felt Kotetsu come up behind him. "Whoa, go Mom!" Kotetsu nearly shouted, succeeding in finally loosening Izumo's feet and Izumo spun on his heel and stared at his best friend.
"Tetsu!" he said in a ridiculous stage whisper. His eyes were still wide from the shock and he couldn't seem to think straight. Or breathe right. Or anything.
"Oh! Hi boys! I'm glad you're back. You've both met Masami, right?" Hana said and Izumo forced himself to turn around, but not before closing his eyes. Just in case. "Zu, why are your eyes closed?"
Izumo cracked one eye and was relieved when they were sitting apart. They were holding hands, but not touching otherwise. He let out the breath he didn't realize he was holding and cleared his throat. "Uh, hi, Ms. Sato."
Masami was a tiny Asian woman of mixed heritage. Izumo wasn't very familiar with the characteristics, but she had the light tan skin tone, the narrow eyes and long, thick black hair. She also had a very nice smile, which she currently had aimed at him. He managed to return it and bowed his head respectfully. "I'm sorry, I'm a little, um... well, uh… surprised, I guess is a good way to put it."
Masami laughed. "I can see this. It's quite alright. Are you… okay?"
Izumo opened his mouth to automatically say yes, but stopped himself. "Um, I don't know."
"Masami, would you mind going out to the kitchen with Tetsu and help get dinner set out? We'll be out in a minute."
"Of course, honey," she said and dropped a kiss on Hana's cheek before standing up. Izumo couldn't seem to absorb that and so just pretended he didn't see it. "Hello, Tetsu, shall we?"
"Sure thing, Ms. Sato," Kotetsu said, offering her arm. Izumo blinked and watched as she took it and they walked away then he turned slowly back to his mother.
"Come here, Izumo," Hana said, holding her hand out at the spot next to her on the bed. Izumo crossed the room and sat down.
"Um… I guess I should apologize," he mumbled, feeling about ten years old.
"No, you don't. This is not how I would have preferred you find out," Hana said, gently. She laid a hand on Izumo's shoulder. "I would have much preferred to tell you by myself in private."
"Uh… I… don't understand. How can you be… uh… a… err… lesbian?" He blinked at her a moment and she raised her eyebrows. "I mean…" he paused, waving his hand a little wildly at himself then at his father's picture on the bedside table. "You know. I'm… me and you're… you and he's… uh… well, he's gone, but he's a… he and it's…"
He could tell she was holding in a laugh, but just barely. Mirth danced in her eyes and her lips twitched. "Mom! This isn't funny! You're a mom! How can you be a lesbian!?" He shook his head, thoroughly confused.
She lost it, finally, and started laughing. Izumo's eyebrows scrunched up in a scowl and he crossed his arms. "Mom! Really! This isn't funny!"
She held a finger up, her arms wrapping around her middle as she fought to get control of herself, but every time she tried to calm down, she got another look at Izumo's face and started laughing again. Izumo, frustrated, dropped his face into his hands and shook his head. In a muffled voice, he muttered, "I'm surrounded by nutcases."
This started another peal of laughter. It took another full two minutes before she could breathe and speak. "I'm sorry, Zu, I really am, but your face." She sat up and shook her head, wiping her eyes with the back of one hand. "Oh, my." She took another few breaths and Izumo worked to keep his patience and wait. She lifted a hand and cupped his cheek. "Yes, I have a child. I am a mom. Your mom. I was his wife," she said, waving toward her late husband's picture. "But that doesn't mean I can't also like women. When I was younger, I didn't realize that is what was going on. I was attracted to them, but bisexual people were… rare, much rarer than out homosexual people and the vast majority of homosexual people back then were in the closet. So you can imagine how rare they were. I didn't talk about being attracted to some of my female friends; I just kept it to myself. And then I fell in love with your father and that was that."
She sighed. "And then Masami and I started being friends. I found myself attracted to her and it was… uncomfortable, for a long time. I still didn't think that it was anything common and I knew that Masami was once married - now a widow. So I assumed, to my later surprise, that she was straight." She smiled. "Then one night, we were out at a movie together - some chick thing - and our hands collided when we reached for the popcorn."
Izumo smiled, his mind going to the time he'd done that very thing with Hayate. "That happened to me, too. My first date," he said, then frowned. Now and again, he still had a pang over his late lover.
Hana smiled and reached up to brush at his hair a little. "I know, it's hard. But anyway," she said, bringing them back. "She looked over at me and I looked at her and… I don't even know how it happened, but after that, we were holding hands." She shook her head, her smile widening. "She'd left her car here, so when we got back here, she stopped on the porch and it was awkward for a moment, but then she just looked at me said something like 'I may regret this, but I hope not' then leaned in and kissed me."
Izumo held his hand up. "I don't think I need any more details, Mom." He blew out a breath and looked over at her. "But… I'm happy for you. It's a little... Uh… weird. But I'm happy for you."
Her smile got even bigger. "Thank you. I don't know what will happen, but we like each other - a lot. I…" she paused and glanced out the door then leaned in. "I love her," she whispered before sitting back, smile back in place.
Izumo forced himself to remember that he was an adult. He could deal with this like an adult. His mother was a grown woman and his father was long dead. Hadn't he learned, himself, the he could love again after Hayate? He leaned over and wrapped her in his arms. "She better not hurt you," he muttered. "Or she'll have both Tetsu and me to deal with."
Hana laughed. "Thank you again, baby. I love you so much."
"I love you, too, Mom. Now, come on, before the chicken gets cold. Do you think you can sit up for dinner?"
"Yeah, I'm doing much better, thanks, baby."
When they got out to the kitchen, Masami and Kotetsu were sitting with coffee cups. "So, yeah, I thought it was good. I was never much of a Kirk fan from the original series, so this was a good change for me."
Izumo grinned. Trust Kotetsu to find something to talk about. "So… is the chicken still warm?" He asked.
Kotetsu looked up at him and grinned. "Nope. I ate it all."
Izumo snorted, smacking his friend in the back of the head. "Sure you did." He took the chair next to Kotetsu and settled in, looking up when Hana dropped a kiss on Masami's cheek before taking her own seat. He got another surprise when Kotetsu scooted a little closer to him, but his friend wouldn't look over, so Izumo let it go.
Everyone was going crazy, he was sure of it. Or maybe it was just him.
It had been one very weird week.
Izumo sat at the kitchen table opposite Kotetsu, working on his last few emails for the day. As he worked, his mind kept going over the week and for the life of him, he couldn't seem to get a handle on it.
For one thing, they'd slept together all week. For the first time since they moved out, they slept in the same bed every night. Of course, that meant that Izumo woke up with a hard cock every day. Not that he didn't sometimes have morning wood, normally, but it certainly wasn't every day, except for the fact that he woke up curled around Kotetsu. Or with Kotetsu curled around him.
Kotetsu had talked his boss into letting him work from home for the week. Like Izumo's boss, the man hadn't been too keen on Kotetsu taking a week vacation without any real warning, so the preference had been to allow Kotetsu to work from there.
Being home with Kotetsu had certainly been different. Back when they were in college, they had, of course, spent all their time together, but when they'd gotten jobs at different companies, that had ended. And it wasn't that they'd spent the whole week talking, or anything. They'd both had their share of conference calls and web meetings and the like. But they'd set their laptops up at opposite ends of the kitchen table and it had still been very… nice… to work like that.
Kotetsu managed to surprise Izumo more than a few times over the course of the week. Izumo, who was very prone to getting lost in work and forgetting to even look up, much less get himself fresh coffee, found a cup of the stuff, still hot, next to his computer quite often. Sometimes, to Izumo's complete surprise, this had been accompanied by a kiss on the top of his head or his temple. He'd had no idea how to handle that and, in a totally cowardly move, had even pretended he hadn't felt it, thanking Kotetsu later when he "realized" he had the cup of coffee.
Then there'd been the couple of times that Kotetsu hadn't been satisfied with a kiss to Izumo's head or temple. Instead, he'd started nibbling on earlobe and neck and Izumo had had to fight him off, since it was the middle of the day. Though twice, he'd given in because it was lunchtime and he and Kotetsu had beat a hasty retreat to the bedroom.
But that hadn't even been the most confusing part of the whole week. No, the weirdest part was that Kotetsu hadn't left the house all week. Not once. The man who usually went out at least twice a week hadn't gone once all week. Instead, he'd spent it with Izumo, watching movies, playing on the xbox or in their online game. Then, when Izumo got tired, Kotetsu had gone to bed with him.
So by Friday afternoon, Izumo was thoroughly confused. He just didn't understand what was behind Kotetsu's behavior. He didn't think it was just the nightmare, but it was possible. And he'd been spending a lot of time trying to figure it out, only to come up short.
He sighed quietly to himself - Kotetsu was on a conference call, the last for the week - and forced his attention back to the report he was writing: his last item for the week. With any luck, he could get it sent off and close down without anything further coming in. He'd have plenty to do when he got back to the office next week and he most definitely was not looking forward to it.
He heard Kotetsu end the call, but managed to keep himself focused on his task. As such, he didn't hear the phone ring. It wasn't until Kotetsu's excited voice got through, that he looked up. "Yes. Thank you very much! September first. I'll be very happy to! Thank you, again. Good bye!" Kotetsu hung up and stared at Izumo, who was grinning.
"I take it you got the job?"
"I GOT THE JOB!" Kotetsu shouted and jumped up to do a dance around the kitchen.
Izumo laughed and hurried around the table. Kotetsu grabbed him up in a hug, then laid a big, hard kiss on him. "I can't believe it! I really didn't think they liked me!"
Izumo snorted. "What's not to like? Hmm?"
Kotetsu shook his head. "You're biased."
"I am not," Izumo scoffed, but laughed at the goofy grin on Kotetsu's face. "So. We celebrate. But let's go tell Mom first!"
"I heard!" Hana said as she made her way into the kitchen. Kotetsu hurried over to her and wrapped his arms around her, obviously remembering her fragile state at the last minute. "Congratulations, honey! You deserve it!"
"Thanks, Mom! Oh… we should go out for dinner! Do you think you can go?"
Hana frowned. "I'm not sure about that. Why don't you two go, hmm? It'll give Masami and I some time alone."
Not wanting to think too much about what his mother and her girlfriend would be doing alone, Izumo jumped in. "I think that's a good idea. We'll probably be out pretty late. If you need us, you can call."
"Of course, honey," Hana said, her lips twitching as she fought a smirk, obviously onto the fact that he didn't want to think about them together.
"Thanks Mom," Izumo said, not bothering to hide his relief. "Uh, I need to finish this report. Then we'll go out. Pick the restaurant, okay? While I do that? My treat."
"Shouldn't I be treating you with the new job?" Kotetsu asked, grinning.
"You can after you get your first paycheck. You can take me to Teo's," Izumo said as he headed back to his computer.
"Deal. Now to write my notice. Oh boy…" Kotetsu said, and Izumo glanced up at the nervousness.
"Hey, look at it this way, if they decide to be assholes - sorry, Mom," he said at the look Hana shot him, "Jerks, you'll just have a nice two-week vacation."
"True. Thanks," Kotetsu said, sitting back down at his laptop. "Holy shit!" Kotetsu said, then blushed. "Uh, sorry, Mom."
Hana just waved a hand. "I give up. You're grown men. Just… behave around my girlfriend, okay?"
Izumo paled a little at the term, but nodded. "Of course, Mom." He cleared his throat and pointedly went back to his computer.
