When they arrived at the inn, Tenten went straight for the room she shared with Gai. When she got no answer, she started to turn to the room that Kakashi and Sakura had, but before she could so much as turn a degree, she was engulfed in a pair of strong arms. Gai.
She struggled to turn around and wrapped her arms around him. All her fears of the last couple of days melted away in his arms. She was home. He held her close to him, murmuring nonsense. The tears began pouring down her face, she couldn't hold them back.
He picked her up and started to carry her into their room when he spotted the man standing a few yards down the hallway, off to the side. "Ten?" Gai asked her.
She sniffled and worked to get her emotions under control. She took a deep breath and patted his arm. He set her back on her feet and looked from her to Kenji.
She turned and motioned Kenji to come closer. "Gai, this is Kenji. Kenji, my husband Gai."
Kenji held a hand out and Gai shook it. "Hello."
Gai looked from Kenji to Tenten. "Hello. Who are you?"
Tenten took one more deep breath and blurted. "He purchased me."
Gai raised an eyebrow. "He purchased you?"
Tenten nodded. "Yes, there's a lot more to tell, but he's the reason I'm here instead of back in their building laying on a bad cot."
"Well." He turned to Kenji and held his hand out again. "Thank you."
Kenji took it and looked at Tenten. "Will you tell him the rest?"
She nodded. "Yes. Would you like to meet in the morning to discuss strategy?"
He smiled. "That would be fine. See you then."
He paused a minute and Tenten looked at Gai. "One second," she said and went over to Kenji and gave him a huge hug. "Thank you," she whispered to Kenji.
"Thank you, Tenten. I'll miss you." Then he released her, turned on his heel and headed down the hall.
She stood there a moment, puzzled by the comment. Then, she shoved it aside and turned back to her husband. Her tears started again in earnest and she ran the few feet back to him and threw herself into his arms.
Gai said nothing, simply held her close to him. "It is okay." He said. "It is alright. You are home now." He turned and headed for their room.
"Wait, where's Kakashi?" She asked, wiping her face again.
"In his room." He turned and carried her into Kakashi's room and Kakashi stood up quickly.
"Tenten! Where's Sakura?" He asked, looking around her.
"She's still in Fushinji's building. But --" she said at the look of alarm on his face, "she's fine. He kept her as a doctor."
The look of relief on Kakashi's face would have been comical, if Tenten hadn't understood. "Doctor?" He asked.
Tenten nodded. "Yes. To treat the women he kidnapped. One last night came back to the dorm bruised and scraped up." She shuddered. "Poor thing. Anyway, she's fine, well cared-for and, aside from seriously pissed, hasn't been touched."
Kakashi sat heavily on the side of the bed. "Thank you." He said and closed his eyes.
Gai spoke for the first time. "I would like to take Tenten back to our room. We will talk a little later."
Kakashi nodded. "That's fine."
Gai turned to Tenten and took her hand and led her to the door. In their own room, he sat on the bed and pulled her down to him. "Tell me."
She took a deep breath to calm her nerves. She closed her eyes and tried to figure out a way to start. "I..." she paused as the tears started again. "I've betrayed you."
"Really? And how is that, my blossom?" He asked.
She looked him straight in the eyes. "I had sex with another man."
He nodded. "I knew that would happen. Is that all?"
She shook her head and lowered her eyes.
He looked at her thoughtfully. "Let me guess. You enjoyed it?"
Her gaze flew up to his face. She nodded miserably.
"Okay. Is there more?" He asked.
She nodded again, then sniffled and wiped at her tears. "I was attracted to him. I liked him. I...responded to him! Even without the drugs!" She started crying again and buried her face in her hands.
Gai simply held her and let the storm pass. He fought a minor urge to kill the man, then set it aside. It was not his fault, not hers. If the blame could be placed anywhere, it was on Fushinji and he would deal with that man.
When her tears slowed a little he kissed her cheeks. "I have something to tell you." He began. She looked up at him and he shifted on the bed into a more comfortable position, pulling her with him. He paused a moment to gather his thoughts.
"Several years ago, just before I took you and Neji and Lee on as students, I was running A and S ranked missions. On one such mission, I was gathering intelligence for Sarutobi on a rather nasty crime boss. At the time, I was dating a woman from the village who was not a ninja. Now, she understood what I did and I did my best to make her understand what I could be called on to do. She said she understood what I was saying."
He paused a moment to kiss her again. "So, I went on the mission. Part of the mission was to get close to the boss's wife who was known for having a man on the side. So, I became that man. It quickly became obvious why she had lovers as her husband treated her horribly, when he bothered with her at all."
"Now, I want to point out that I cared very much for my girlfriend at the time. I had even been toying with the idea of asking her to marry me. So, when I found myself attracted to this man's wife, I was appalled at myself. Then, as we became the lovers that my mission dictated we become, I found myself increasingly looking forward to our times together. I wanted her, and not just as a mission."
"I was so conflicted and confused by this. I still loved my girlfriend and could not wait until I could get home to be with her. But at the same time, I found myself very attracted to this other man's wife; a woman who was not my girlfriend."
"Eventually, I was able to gather the information that I was sent to retrieve and I returned home. I was still somewhat conflicted, but talked to a few other ninja who had been on similar missions. I found out it was not unusual for that sort of thing to happen."
"When I talked to my girlfriend, however, she was not so understanding. We split and I was devastated for a long time over it. I realized, in the end, that it was not something I could control. I have since been on other missions like that and dealt with it much better. Sometimes I was attracted to the woman and sometimes I was not."
"But in the end, I knew that they were not for me. That I was not for them. I would come home to my life with my real identity and, if not forget about them, put the experience in the past."
He stopped, then, and kissed her again thoroughly. "Do you still love me?" He asked her quietly.
She nodded. "Yes. I never stopped."
"Do you still want to be married to me?" She looked up at him quickly.
"Of course!" She said.
He looked at her thoughtfully. "Did you fall in love with Kenji?"
She stopped and stared. "No. And...how did you know it was him?"
Gai smiled. "I could see the way he looked at you. He would have to be an idiot not to be attracted to you." Gai shrugged. "Anyway, I am not upset. I have been where you are, and I understand. I love you and always will. Even if you are called upon to do a mission like that again. I will admit I do not like that you may have to have sex with another man, but I can accept it. You are a ninja and I would not have you any other way."
Tenten closed her eyes and felt a weight lift off of her shoulders. She breathed a deep sigh of relief, then leaned forward and kissed him. It did feel different than Kenji. It was deeper, somehow, and though she would likely never forget Kenji, this was where she belonged.
They made love, then. Slowly, thoroughly, and Tenten knew that every fiber of her being responded to Gai in a way that it never would with anyone else. He covered every inch of her body in kisses, worshipped her face, touched her everywhere.
She tasted him, learned him all over again, loved him. And when he entered her much later, she could think of nothing but the feel of him inside her. Every cell of her body recognized him and responded to him.
The union was an extremely emotional one. Tenten never felt the tears fall, only knew they were there when Gai kissed them away. They moved together, their bodies rejoicing in the reunion. And before she knew what hit her, she came, calling his name. Gai followed, calling out to her in his release.
They lay together after, lost in each other, celebrating the simple ability to touch and look. It wasn't until much later that they remembered they needed to go talk to Kakashi. They showered together and it took even longer before they managed to get dressed.
Kakashi answered after the first knock. Tenten hadn't been paying enough attention when they had talked to him earlier, but Kakashi looked bad. His hair was messier than usual, he had circles under his eyes and he looked about ten years older. "Kakashi-sempai?" Tenten asked.
He just looked at her a moment. "I'm sorry, come in." He stepped back from the door and waved them in. He rubbed his hands over his face, then combed his fingers through his hair and looked around at them. "Sorry. Just...distracted."
Tenten felt horrible for him. She knew how she'd feel if Gai was, for all intents and purposes missing. She walked over to him and gave him a hug. He seemed surprised, but hugged her back and she could feel, just for a second, the tremors in him. "She's fine, really." She said into his ear and she felt him nod.
He let go and they all sat down. Tenten told Kakashi what she knew of the operation Fushinji was engaged in, described everything she could and what the plans were for moving the women next. She told him about Kenji, but when she started to leave out what she'd done with him, Kakashi gave her a sharp look. Gai took over for a moment while she tried to cover her embarrassment, and Kakashi's look softened in understanding.
They agreed for a time to get started the next morning and Tenten and Gai went back to their room for the night. An exhausted Tenten fell into a deep sleep only moments after nestling into Gai's arms. Gai, however, didn't fall asleep for quite a while as everything that had happened still swam around in his head.
He was glad she was back with him. He'd missed her insanely. He was angry with Fushinji for putting her in the kind of situation she'd faced. And he was angry with himself for not preparing her better for it. He knew that it was a possibility and he could have helped so that she didn't go through some of the emotional turmoil.
He couldn't change it, but he could help her now. With that vow ringing in his mind, he finally fell asleep.

Kakashi sat on the edge of the bed, his head in his hands. He'd sworn to himself that he would protect her. That he couldn't let anything happen to her as he'd been unable to do in his past. Yet, here he was, pacing the room they shared, essentially with no way to do anything to help her.
He knew where she was. If Tenten was to be believed -- and she had no reason to lie -- then Sakura was safe and unharmed. But it was driving him crazy to not be able to see her or do anything for her.
He paced the room again, trying his best to clear his mind. He was going to need rest if he wanted to be useful for anything the next day. He did his best to work out, but his heart wasn't in it. So, instead, he stretched out on the bed, pulled her pillow closer to himself and fell into a fitful sleep.
