"Mondai." Hinata greeted him with a slight incline of her head. She unsheathed her sword and passed the sheath back to Neji without turning around.
"Hyuuga-sama," He spat. "Your time is over."
Hinata laughed, she couldn't help herself. "Have you been watching old movies?" She doubled over, clutching her stomach, only partially an act. "Is that really the best you could come up with?" She chuckled some more.
He looked affronted and a bit put off. "You overestimate yourself, m'dear."
Hinata continued to chortle as she stalked towards him. "Yes, yes, I'm sure I do." As she got closer to him, he continued to back up, and the crowd parted, backing away. "I seem to remember just a short time ago that I told you if I ever saw you again, you would wish you were in Konoha prison." She held the sword somewhat loosely, in an attempt to hide the tension coiling in the pit of her stomach.
Something was bothering her about his attitude. He was too sure of himself, too confident. She took in the crowd, but no one nearby seemed ready to jump in and help him. What am I missing?
Neji stood back, watching, ready to jump in the second Hinata needed help. If it remained Mondai, she wouldn't, but he doubted sincerely that the only one involved was Mondai. He'd seen the other three earlier, and he knew that there were some in the group here that were unhappy with the changes. He didn't understand the branch members who were having such a problem with things, but then again, some people just didn't like change, no matter how good it was.
His eyes travelled over the crowd as Hinata continued circling with Mondai. There was a large clearing now, where the two were moving. He wished he could get her out of those damned formal robes. They couldn't be helping her.
Most of the crowd looked uneasy or even fearful. Many had their eyes on the exits. He was glad to see the mothers with their children in their arms. He would be very angry if any of the young ones got hurt through all of this.
His eye caught Tenten's and she carefully moved through the crowd to Lee's side. They knew what to do. He noted the ninja slowly moving into position. He looked over at Ino and Temari and, despite the disgruntled looks on their faces, they eased out of the front gates.
His attention turned back to Hinata and Mondai just as all hell broke loose.

There was a loud boom from somewhere near the back of the main house. A huge cloud of thick black smoke went up and they knew that things had just become the worst that they could possibly imagine. The crowd in the courtyard turned into chaos.
The women and children screamed and the men scrambled to try to figure out what had happened. Neji shouted, "NARUTO!" and the ninja who were in the reception immediately began to clear the courtyard and get everyone out the front door. Hinata spun around to find Neji and in the second she took to do that, Mondai disappeared into the crowd.
"Dammit!" Hinata was not given to bad language, but this was going from bad to worse, very quickly. She picked up the bottom of her kimono and hurried over to Neji. "Hurry! Help me out of this!" She spun around, and Neji just stared at the obi before he pulled his sword out and sliced it cleanly.
Hinata pulled the robes off and once more in comfortable clothing, she tried to help organize the evacuation. Within moments, the women and children were through the front gates, Temari and Ino helping to guide them out of the compound.
Hinata looked over her shoulder to Neji and they tried to get the men out, as well. It was a tough battle; they all wanted to help. But until they knew better what, exactly, they were up against, they needed everyone who wasn't shinobi out of the compound.
After way too much time, they were left with their friends, the ANBU squad, Hiashi and themselves. "It's obvious, there's a fire near the kitchen. We need to get it out." Neji turned to Yamato, "Can you help us with that?"
Yamato nodded, grabbed two of the other ANBU and ran through the house for the other side. Hinata turned to the others. "Kiba, Shino, Hanabi, Sai -- there are still clan members in the house, and we have to find them and get them out. Please, hurry." She turned to the rest. "There are also some who have allied themselves with Mondai and his followers. Do not kill unless you have no choice."
"Neji and I are going after Mondai. Please - please, be careful." She turned to Tenten and hugged her fiercely, then gave the same hug to Lee. Turning back to Neji, she took a deep breath. "Let's go."
She and Neji turned and headed into the house. Taking the hallway to the left, they started moving through the smoky corridors of the main house. There was no telling where Mondai had hidden himself, but she was sure that he was lying in wait to ambush her and Neji. They activated their Byakugan at the same time and began searching.
They could see through the smoke, though the walls and, frustratingly, couldn't seem to find him. He had to be there somewhere. He didn't start all of this to take off. She and Neji were still the goal. So, then, where was he?
They moved slowly, room by room, and every room they passed without seeing him made Hinata more and more nervous. She paused a moment in a room that hadn't yet filled with smoke. "Koishii?" Neji queried.
"Just a second." She closed her eyes and tried to refocus her thoughts. She had to be careful. She had to find them and she had to make sure that this was the end. A moment later, she opened her eyes and nodded once.

Sakura and Ino were carefully tending to those clan members who had gotten caught in the house, or who had had the misfortune to get shoved aside or even trampled in the chaos of the explosions. Every time they thought they'd reached the end, more came out of the gates.
Captain Yamato and the other two water ninja were working on the fire, but it hadn't just set in one place. Apparently, they had very carefully set the fire so that it engulfed different parts of the house. They worked as quickly as they could, but it was difficult, even for them.
Naruto followed Sai as they moved through the main house, looking for Mondai's followers and people hiding from the fire. Naruto was getting frustrated and had the urge to just send a big Rasengan through the house to clear a hole and look, but Sai shut him up with more comments about his penis size and something about compensating. The only thing that kept Naruto from turning the Rasengan on Sai was the thought that there were too many people still inside the house for that.

Hinata turned to Neji. "Why can't we find him?"
"I don't know. It makes no sense." He slowly spun, taking in everything he possibly could, but still no sign of him. "The only thing I can come up with is that he's hiding among other people."
Hinata shrugged one shoulder. It still didn't feel right, but there was little they could do, but continue searching. Moving carefully through the corridors, they found a few people who had hidden in bedrooms, either unaware or afraid of the fire. They were getting increasingly frustrated until they rounded a corner to be met with Yakkai, the very elder who had tried to get the young couple Yuri and Yumimiru in trouble with them.
He stood in front of them, crouched in a Gentle Fist stance. Neji and Hinata glanced at each other before Hinata spoke. "It doesn't have to be this way. You don't have to die."
He laughed. "You think you could kill me, little girl?"
Neji barely refrained from rolling his eyes. When were they going to learn?
Hinata sighed and raised her sword. "I don't have time for this. I've given you warning. I'll say this once more. You do not have to die for this."
He continued to chuckle, then turned his hand and tilted his fingers in a 'bring it' motion. Hinata sighed again, brought her sword up, spun on the ball of her right foot and sliced the sword across the front of his neck before he had time to even look surprised. As the body fell, she swallowed the bile that threatened to come up and quickly stepped over it and moved on.
"Damn." The quiet expletive that came from her lips said more than anything else. Neji touched her shoulder in comfort as they moved further through the house.

"Well, well. If it isn't the Nine-tailed fox." Naruto stared down the pale lavender eyes and tried to hold on to his temper. He was aware of Sai standing behind and to the right of him, watching for a signal to move on or attack. "The one who fancies himself the next Hokage." The man snickered. "As if you could ever fill those shoes."
Naruto put in a bid for patience to any god that might listen. When the request went unanswered, he sighed. "I'm not supposed to kill you. For some reason that is beyond my understanding, Hinata would prefer that we didn't. I, personally, think she's a bit nuts, but…" he shrugged. "She's my friend and your leader, whether you recognize that or not."
The elder laughed. "And do you think you would be the one to bring me down?" He dropped, ever so slowly, into the first crouch of the Gentle Fist.
Naruto looked over his shoulder at Sai. "Okay, what is with these Hyuuga? Is Hinata the only one who isn't ridiculously full of themselves?"
Sai shrugged. "I wouldn't know. I don't have a lot of experience with them. They probably just have small penises."
Naruto turned to him and said conversationally, "You know, I'm really starting to wonder about the size of yours. I mean, you seem pretty obsessed with them. Or, maybe…" he took a step away from Sai, "maybe you prefer men?"
The growl from the elder turned their heads back to him. "Do you have a name?" Naruto asked with exaggerated patience.
"Ah, you wish to know who will be the one to bring down the great Uzumaki Naruto?" He smiled. "I am Hanzatsu." He stood out of the crouch and bowed formally.
Naruto started laughing. "Good grief, these people." He glanced over his shoulder at Sai. "I've had enough, how about you?" When Sai shrugged and nodded, Naruto turned back. "Kage bunshin no jutsu!"
Several Narutos appeared around Hanzatsu. "Take this guy outside and hold him for Hinata, okay?"
"HAI!" several of them responded. Naruto and Sai squeezed around the tussle of bodies. A few of his clones poofed from hits by Hanzatsu, but there were enough there, he was sure, to subdue him and get him out of the building.
"Let's go. The smoke is getting thicker. We need to get the rest of the family out." Naruto threw over his shoulder.
"Wait." Sai called. He dropped to one knee and pulled a scroll and brush out. In a few seconds, he had his mice drawn and hand signs made and they took off. Only a moment later, they returned. "This way." He jumped up and headed down the hall to the right, Naruto right on his heels.

Hinata and Neji made it through most of the main house. They'd managed to get a few more people out, but had yet to run into anyone else, including their friends. Hinata was starting to get worried. She turned to Neji. "Okay, this isn't making sense. Where is everyone? What's the point of causing all of this only to disappear?"
Neji paused a moment to run it over again in his head. It's all he'd been thinking about since they'd gone back into the house. The only thing he could think of was that they were being lured into some place in particular. "It's a trap. It's the only thing I can come up with. They're luring us somewhere of their choosing."
"Okay. So what do you do when you're being lured into a trap?" The corners of Hinata's lips turned up slightly and her grip on her sword tightened.
"You spring it." Neji smiled back at her. They turned around and ran for the rest of the house to round up their friends.

Back in the front of the house, they found Lee, Tenten, Naruto and Sai. Kiba, Shino and Hanabi had found a number of branch members still in the branch house, which was also on fire, so they had gone back there to help get them all out. Sakura and Ino were still treating people, many of whom now had smoke inhalation on top of their other injuries.
While Hinata was explaining what they'd figured out to the others, Neji pulled Tenten aside quickly. "Ten, you should head out with Ino and Temari." He knew what she was going to say, but he had to try.
"Lee already said as much. And I'll tell you what I told him. No." She stood with her hands fisted on her hips and glared at him. "I can do this."
"I know you can." Neji would not lose patience with her. "You should know by now that I have no wish to take a kunai between the eyes. I'm not about to question your capabilities. I'm worried about the baby. There's so much that can go wrong."
"No. Please don't make me." She stared at him, her big brown eyes not quite pleading.
Neji was going to go to hell. He knew it. It was bad enough he had a wife who could do that, but now his lover and team mate could do the same thing. He thought quickly. "Okay, but on one condition." Her eyes narrowed, but she listened. "You stay out of close combat."
She smiled brilliantly and Neji had the feeling he'd been had. "Absolutely."
They rejoined the others and a few moments later, they were ready. "Let's get this over with." Hinata led the group back through the front double doors of what was now left of the Main Hyuuga house.
