The large machine that was built in those old ruins, was destroyed. Sakura was dead and Kabuto had vanished, yet again, into the unknown. News spread fast that Sakura had died at Sasuke's hand. If not for the reports released by the ANBU members, Sai and Neji, Sasuke would have been charged with high treason, for a second time. With Sasuke comatose, no one knew for certain what exactly happened in that room. How could someone like Sasuke, who was so much more stronger, faster, and skilled, be wounded so greatly?
Gaara and Shiro took a trip to the Hidden Leaf, giving Sakura's ashes to the Hokage, Tsunade. A funeral was held, despite what she had done. It was a reminder that anyone was susceptible to grief and pain. That even your closest friend, could turn on you. It was a lesson that all ninjas had to learn. Despite the great attendance, there was one person who was notably missing: Naruto Uzumaki. He had refused to leave Sasuke's side, a final act, some would call it, proving that he had chosen Sasuke all along. However, weeks went by, and Sasuke never woke up. Akane, who remained with Kankuro in the Desert village, finally offered a suggestion. The Village of the Hidden Oasis was known for its healing atmosphere. It might be the ideal place for Naruto and Sasuke to find some solace. They had some of the best medical ninjas around, and it was private. No one would ask questions. Naruto was reluctant to leave his children, but Gaara promised them the best care while he would be away. Parting was hard on him, leaving his children behind. They cried, clinging and refused to let go of their father. They were also sad at the lost of their other father as well. Kissing foreheads, Naruto promised he will come back when Sasuke was better. That they would be a family again. What convinced him to go wasn't for just his children's sake, but also because of what he learned. After an investigation by the ANBU, Neji and Sai showed Naruto the surveillance footage of Sasuke's fight with Sakura. "Go, Naruto." There was a hesitating moment for the blond, as he looked in Sasuke's eyes. Finally, he sighed, moving to run down the hallway. Sakura turned to watch, before moving her soft green eyes back to Sasuke. "...I suppose you're going to ask me the same question?" Sasuke looked around the lab again, his hand moving to the belted sword. Slowly, the blade was unsheathed. "No, I'm not going to ask you anything, Sakura." Laughing, she stopped her checking on the specimens to fold her arms over her pair of ample breasts. "Oh? You're going to destroy my lab?" "Eventually." Irritated, her voice grew more intense. "What do you want then!?" Turning to look back to her, Sasuke's eyes were activated. "To kill you. That's what you expect me to say, isn't it?" Holding the sword out, Sasuke remained still. "None of what you're doing is going to make me change how I feel about you, Sakura. You might as well stop now." "Stop? Or what? You'll love me less? You'll have me turned in? You really think that Naruto will allow you to do that?" Laughing, Sakura moved to push her chest into the sword, although not enough to penetrate herself. "Go ahead, Sasuke." Sasuke grunted, slashing downwards. However, his motion was just a cut. "I don't have to kill you to defeat you." Smirking, he cocked his head to the side. "I figure I can just make you sorry and drag you back kicking and screaming." Enraged, Sakura lunged. The fight that destroyed the room commenced, though it was obvious that Sasuke was on the defensive. He was bidding his time, letting Sakura wear herself out. Cutting her with a flesh wound again and burning her with his black flames just enough, Sakura was defeated. Standing over her, Sasuke pointed his sword down. "You've lost." "Kill me." "...I won't. I don't kill my friends...I would never..." Sasuke was hesitant, but Naruto's nature had obviously rubbed off on him. Moving the sword, he offered his free hand as he kneeled down. "We're going home." Sakura looked, surprised and teary. Nodding, she took the hand. Watching the footage, what happened next seemed to slow in Naruto's mind. He wanted to look away, but couldn't. With her free hand, Sakura took a kunai and stabbed Sasuke with such a force, the blade went nearly entirely into Sasuke's body. It was reflective when Sasuke's slashing arm cut the woman down. He pulled the blade out, crying out in pain. Soon after, Naruto saw himself run into the room. "We already showed this to the board. They deemed Sakura's death as a causality. Sasuke is in no danger, if he ever recovers." Neji turned the television off, looking to Naruto. With his head in his hands, the blue eyes still stared at the blank screen, Naruto only nodded. "He tried to save her...and she killed him for it." Sighing, he stood up from his seat. "Or tried too, at least. Thank you...for showing me. Now...if you'll excuse me..." Sai side stepped, allowing Naruto to leave the private room. It was in the middle of the night, when Naruto disappeared with Sasuke's body. Gaara and Shiro remained together, keeping their promise to keep a close eye over the development of the Uzumaki twins. They also kept the Uzumaki house safe, despite that there was no one living there anymore. Akane and Kankuro moved from the small apartment, to only a slightly bigger one. Akane wanted a roof top garden. Gaara appointed Kankuro the new teacher at the elementary school, finding that his brother was actually quite liked by children and an excellent teacher. Akane, himself, remained the king of his village until his father's return. Shura, who still goes by Shiro, made amends with both his brother, Akane, and his father. While he was planning on leaving, Gaara wouldn't hear anything of it. As far as Gaara was concerned, nothing had changed between them. With Shiro's memories returned, there was a change in his personality, but people would say it was for the better. There was more passion and desire in their relationship, and they seemed...happier. Shiro took up running the village hospital, improving conditions of several health issue that were common from those that lived in desert climates. I wanted this story to be told properly, and not to have rumors and intrigue misguide those who should know the facts. No one could have predicted this outcome or what would happen next. If we knew, we would have all done things very, very differently. We did not know how deeply rooted these events were, and if we did, maybe we could have stopped what happened next. I do not absolve myself from the part I played, and if it comes down to it, I will gladly face my punishment. No one was completely innocent. Not Naruto, nor Sasuke. Gaara, Kankuro, Akane, not even Kana and Shino. We all wanted something, and we paid the price for it. My work with Kabuto unlocked something, that was too important to be buried with Sakura's death. Author's Note: This is the end of part three! I hope you liked it, and YES, there is a part four coming soon!
