Chapter 2 - The Snake’s Domain
Sarah awoke in an unknown location, in a bed that wasn’t her own. The last thing she remembered was her intense evening in the arboretum with Orochimaru. She had sex with a legendary Sannin of all people, an S-ranked criminal who was listed in the bingo book. She remembered being suffocated afterwards and then... nothing. Jerking up suddenly, her hands went to grasp her neck, making sure she wasn’t still being strangled. Relieved once she confirmed otherwise, she looked around the room.
To her left, she saw a wooden bedside table with two drawers. On it was a candle in a holder and a glass of water. To her right, a few more candles were lit on a double armed sconce. Past the foot of the bed was a closed door, framed with metal. A wooden dresser stood at the far end beside another door. The floor and ceiling were the same type of stone, matching the walls with wave-like patterns all around. There were no windows, indicating they were underground. The chamber was too warm to be a prison, and there weren’t bars anywhere. There wasn't any hint of dampness either. If not for the room being made of stone, the room would be very cozy.
Feeling something around her, she glanced down to discover her body was wrapped in a dark colored robe. "What the hell!?" she snapped. Where was she!? How did she get here!?
Her thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door, before a young man entered. He had long, silver hair pulled back into a ponytail. His clothes consisted of mostly purple and he wore large round glasses.
Observing her, he spoke, "You're awake. My lord sent me to come check on you."
Sarah snapped her head up to glare at him. The word 'Lord' wasn't lost on her, which meant Orochimaru had something to do with this. She knew from the stories about him, Orochimaru was often referred to as ‘Lord’ by his followers. "What the fuck is going on!?" she demanded. "Where the hell am I, and why am I here!?!" It was easy to see she was furious. "Answer me!" she yelled after a moment when he wouldn’t answer right away.
With a smug look on his face, he adjusted his glasses. "I wouldn't take that tone around here too often if I were you." Placing a hand on his hip. "You're in the Hidden Sound Village, founded by Lord Orochimaru. Apparently, you peeked his interest. We couldn’t simply allow you to remain in your village."
"What!?" Sarah gasped infuriated. "First he assaults me, then I’m abducted from my own home! And you have the balls to stand here and tell me that I’m in the ‘Hidden Sound’..." She paused abruptly. Her eyes narrowed, voice lowered with accusation. "What do you mean I peeked his interest? I don't really know much about him other than what is public knowledge.”
Evading her question with one of his own. “What’s to stop you from telling others that he was there? We can’t just leave loose ends.”
This guy was making her angrier by the second. He was giving her more questions than answers.
The candlelight reflected on his glasses. "He said that you met before, perhaps you remember. It's rare someone would help him, especially not knowing who he was. Like it or not, you got his attention."
"Oh you’re damn straight I met him before! He was by himself with wounded arms, so I helped him." She retorted. "And this is the fucking thanks for it?! Shows up in my village, knowing who I am, and then kisses me. Forces me to have sex with him right then and there, and then brings me here to boot! Never again will I help someone. EVER!" she shouted.
"You won't have to worry about that." Pushing his glasses a bit further up his nose when they occasionally slid down. "You're free to walk around the lair, but don't try to run off." The light illuminated one lens. "You’ll find, you won't get far," he said with a smirk before turning to leave.
Just as the door shut behind him, Sarah grabbed the first thing she could find. Not paying attention to what it was, she threw the glass of water at the door. It shattered upon impact, creating a damp spot on the door.
"BASTARD!!" she yelled.
-
From outside the door, the man flinched hearing the sound. “She’s got a fiery temper all right.”
“What was that?” The snake nin asked, appearing from the shadows.
The young man turned. “Lord Orochimaru,” acknowledging him. “I was talking about our lady friend. She’s got quite a temper.”
Orochimaru agreed. This was going to be a challenge but it was something they were willing to tolerate, for reasons that they kept to themselves. “I see. And how is our guest doing, aside from being upset?”
“She’s well. I must caution you; she believes you have violated her.”
“Kabuto, we both know she’s only saying that to cover up her true feelings,” his smirk was evident. “Besides, she thoroughly enjoyed our time together. She is probably just upset by how easily it was to seduce her.”
“I suppose,” Kabuto remarked. “She does have a history of finding the wrong men.”
“Yesss, which has been remedied. She won’t find another who could satisfy her as I can.”
"Is it wise to let her think she's a prisoner here? She's allowed to roam around but not to leave."
“That’s best for now.” Orochimaru stated. “Come, we have things to discuss. I don’t wish for any unwanted ears to overhear,” referring to Sarah in case she decided to ease drop. After all, she was her village’s recon ninja.
With a nod, Kabuto went with his Lord down the hall, leaving Sarah to her own devices. The two walked silently through the hallways until reaching a rather large room with a set of double doors. Kabuto went over to a file he had opened on a table while his lord took a seat in a fairly large chair.
"What do you have to report?" Orochimaru asked, smirking. His mind kept replaying his evening with Sarah.
“While she was still unconscious, I did examine her,” Kabuto explained, getting straight to the point. “There is no chance of pregnancy. She’s well protected from that right now.”
“You didn’t...” Orochimaru started, his smirk fading.
“No,” Kabuto interrupted him. “I managed to get a copy of her medical files. She takes injections. I kept well within my limits. Although in the future, being the medic, I will need to have access to make an accurate diagnosis.” Since he couldn't do a proper examination, he pressed against her abdomen. As a medical ninja, he was able to deduce if there was any damage just from body language, but at times he would need to have visual aid to be sure of things.
Orochimaru detested the thought, but knew it was unavoidable. "Fine... but when those times occur, I will be there to supervise."
"That’s fine with me, though I doubt Sarah would appreciate that."
"Let me worry about that." Orochimaru said, waving his hand. "She'll be putty in my hands. She has so much pent up sexual frustration, and I will be the one to give her that satisfaction."
Kabuto smirked. "That she does."
"Besides the more imitate concerns, what else do you have to report?"
"Not much else I'm afraid," Kabuto began as he closed the open file and stepped toward him. "They’re quite secretive. As you saw for yourself, the place isn't that bad, but..." he stopped just as someone entered the room.
-
After seeing the glass shatter, not caring if anyone heard the noise, she scanned the room again. Judging by the door leading into the hallway, she wasn't necessarily a prisoner. But she might as well be, from what she had been told. She knew what the man had said was true. If she were to try to leave, she would be caught almost immediately. With nothing else to do, she pulled herself off the bed to tour the small space that was assigned to her. Just then she sensed another chakra signature, indicating there were two people outside the room.
The two signatures didn’t stay for long, suggesting she was now alone. With only the flicking of the candlelight and her breathing, the room fell into silence. If it were devoid of the candle’s glow, she would have been cloaked in complete darkness. It didn’t take much time for Sarah to get annoyed with the quiet. Stepping over the broken glass, she opened the door. She would need to familiarize herself with her surroundings.
Sarah left the safety of the room to venture down the hall. There were several doors leading to other areas, all looking identical. Some were open to her inspection, while others were closed off or locked. Who knows what could have been behind them. Throughout the tour, candles were lit along one wall of the seemly endless hallway, casting an orange hue on the walls. Just like in her room, the walls in the corridors had the same abstract wave pattern.
Eventually, she came across a set of double doors. Feeling that same strong chakra signature coming from within, knowing it was ‘him’. Nearly seething and wanting answers, she burst into the room ready to yell upon entering.
There before her, appeared to be a throne room. She was met by an unexpected sight. The snake nin was sitting there in a large chair that was simplistic yet regal in design, reminding her of some great ruler. His head propped up in his hand, elbow resting on the arm of the chair. The man with glasses she had seen earlier was talking with him, but stopped mid sentence. He was holding what seemed to be a folder.
Noticing Sarah walk in, Orochimaru’s golden eyes fell on her, drawing the younger man’s attention. Kabuto turned to where his Lord was looking. Both of them were quiet, wondering what she had to say.
"What the hell gives you the right to bring me here!?!" Sarah thundered. "I helped you three years ago, shared my tent with you, and this is the thanks I get for it! Assaulted and abducted!" Her eyes were hard, though she stayed near the door. "And him!" She pointed to the silver haired man, bringing him into the conversation and she had yet to learn his name. "Tells me I'm free to walk around but can't leave. It sounds like I'm a prisoner to me."
"Hmhm," the snake nin hummed. "I wouldn't exactly call it an assault. If memory serves me correctly, you were just as eager as I." He taunted with a smirk firmly in place. "That’ll be all Kabuto," he said in his next breath to the young male.
He bowed. "Yes my lord." Making his way out.
Sarah's jaw dropped at that moment, face flushing scarlet. It shocked her, for Orochimaru to say that in front of someone else without hesitation. Everything else she wanted to yell about fled from her mind. At the very least she finally got the name of his follower, Kabuto.
She immediately averted her eyes away, as Kabuto passed by her. Her face was bright, and she could feel the heat sinking down to her toes.
Kabuto kept his eyes straight ahead, not bothered by the Sannin’s choice of words. Reaching the door, he disappeared around the corner.
"Kabuto is my medic. You should be nicer to him. Help is hard to come by here."
About to ask him what he meant when another presence appeared in the doorway behind her. She jumped, bringing her further into the room.
A raven-haired teen barged in, wearing a scowl on his face. "Orochimaru! I'm tired of waiting. You promised you'd train me."
"In a moment Sasuke," The snake nin replied simply.
Sarah turned her head in the boy's direction. "What the hell?!" Her anger towards her captor distracted her from sensing Sasuke’s approach. His tone startled her once more, his voice echoed throughout the room.
Sasuke glanced over at Sarah. "So, you went ahead with your plan?”
“What plan?” she demanded to know.
Ignoring her, Sasuke continued. “Must be nice for you to have a new hobby to satisfy your needs."
Sarah's eyes widened. "Hobby!? Why you rude asshole!"
"Feisty too. What is she, your new girlfriend?" Sasuke asked, unfazed by her outburst. Looking directly at Orochimaru.
The man’s expression became more stern. "That is none of your business.."
Sarah gulped taking a step back, fear now evident in her eyes. From the stories she heard about the legendary Sannin... he was a ninja you didn't want to cross unless you knew how to stop or slow him down.
Sasuke snorted. "May I remind you, you need me." His eyes then shifted to Sarah. "Fear is something Orochimaru loves to see in his victims. But you..." he trailed off, bringing his attention back to Orochimaru. "Don't be long." He turned away.
"Wait! What the hell do you mean by that!?" Sarah snapped. Rushing over and gripped the sleeve of his shirt without thinking.
Sasuke looked at her, eyes going red. A sense of panic filled Sarah again as she let go, backing away. "Normally he likes to torture his victims, but he's giving you free reign, which means you're different."
The Sannin remained seated, but a snake appeared at his side when Sasuke frightened her. "That's enough boy!" he warned.
Sasuke glanced back at Orochimaru, red eyes fading to black. "That confirms it. You're protective of her. She must be important to you then." Sasuke’s eyes went back to Sarah. "You're lucky he likes you." With that he continued on his way, disappearing down the hallway.
Sarah took a few quivering breaths, glad to see he was gone. That teen was nearly just as scary looking as the Snake Nin, especially with those eyes. Those red eyes were haunting. She remembered learning before of a ninja clan that had strange red eyes... the... Uchiha. That was it! And he was the sole survivor.
The snake behind Orochimaru lowered its head, seeing the danger had passed. It looked calm as it flicked its tongue. The Sannin glanced at the snake by him and patted its head. Sarah turned slowly, remembering that her 'lover' was in the room. She looked at him, taking a deep breath, apprehension noticeable on her features.
Her mind reeled over Sasuke's words about Orochimaru being protective of her. Everything that was going on confused her. She wasn't sure if she should be mad, relieved, or sad. "What do you plan to do with me?" she asked, her tone softer, more so than the night they first met. The words Sasuke said haunted her; 'Hobby', 'girlfriend', 'victims', 'protective'.
His attention shifted back toward her, expression eased, no longer angry. "Nothing," he finally said. "You may do as you will. Consider this your new home." Rising from his chair, he approached her. The snake slithered along beside him as he walked. "Kabuto will help you with anything you might need. Just be careful of Sasuke. He's not allowed to harm you. If he does, you are to tell me."
"He's the last Uchiha, isn't he?" she asked tentatively.
"That he is." With that he brushed past her still form.
"Wait!" Sarah called out. "That's it? You force me into sex, knock me out, tell me this is my new home and to watch out for the Uchiha kid? Come on, there's got to be more than that." She nearly snarled. "Thank fucking god I can't get pregnant right now! You ejaculated into me without hesitation. What if I wasn't on birth control?" That was the question. If he were to have sex with her again, how would he know not to impregnate her unless that was part of his plan? She then gasped. "Unless that's what you want with me..."
He paused and then chuckled. "Don't be silly girl. I have no desire to impregnate you."
Sarah sighed in relief. Choosing to believe him for now. "What then? From how you handled me in my own village no less..." she put strain on the word village, "I can't see that being a one-time thing, not when you brought me here. So how the hell do you intend to prevent me from getting pregnant?"
"Kabuto handles all the medication. He can provide that for you." He began to move, this time towards her.
She took a few steps back as he approached, her back hitting the wall. Her eyes widened in fear, beginning to look all too familiar. Was this going to be a relapse of last time?
A smirk appeared on his face once more. He too saw they were in a similar situation. "Relax..." he breathed, nearly pressed against her. He leaned down, capturing her lips. She stiffened for a moment before relaxing into it. It wasn't like the kiss they shared from before. Once their lips parted, he pulled away. "Perhaps later, but for right now I am needed elsewhere."
Upon reaching the doors, he paused and turned back to her briefly. "As I said, this is your home now. You are not a prisoner here, and if you wish to leave, you may do so. However, if caught, you will be regarded as an S-ranked criminal for associating with me. Therefore, your life will be in danger." With that said, he turned and exited the room.
It took several minutes for Sarah’s breathing to return to normal before 'peeling' herself off the wall. His words 's-ranked criminal' kept replaying over and over again in her mind. He was right. The moment she would find a way out, she would be regarded as a criminal. No one ever left Orochimaru's services.
"That bastard!" she hissed. Not wanting to remain there any longer, she left the room, continuing to explore the rest of the lair.
Being underground was something she was used to, but not when it was so poorly lit. It was bright enough to see what she was doing, but still dim enough to cast shadows. After a while she came across a door that was slightly ajar with a familiar presence behind it. At least it wasn’t ‘his’. With a shrug, she pushed the door open to find herself in a laboratory of some kind. The young man who she learned to be Kabuto stood in front of a wide, wooden table that was covered in scrolls and potion making equipment. He wasn’t facing in her direction, working on a new mixture. The room had an odd scientific atmosphere to it. Though like the others she'd been in, it was lit only by candles.
"You can come in," greeted the medic, not needing to look at her to know she was there.
She wanted to sneer at him, but realized he could probably sense her coming. Taking a few steps in, she stopped by a low cabinet. A little unsettled by the various preserved specimens in jars that sat atop it.
"Kabuto, is it?" she asked. Being here would get something out of the way, and Orochimaru did state Kabuto would be her medic. She took a deep breath. "What do you know about birth control?"
Putting down the vials in his hand, he adjusted his glasses. "Heh, enough. Why?" She could tell the question didn't catch him off guard.
Sarah blushed, not sure how to say it. She then frowned, still blushing. "Look. I had a medic who I was completely comfortable with. You... you're someone who follows that...that..." she paused, not sure what to call Orochimaru. "Point is… I'm now here against my will and I need to make sure that son of a bitch doesn't impregnate me. He says he doesn't want to, but his words are meaningless to me. Do you have the ability or not to make sure that doesn't happen?"
Not once did her tone sound rude. It sounded as if she was having trouble getting the words out. Then again, her face, which turned a brighter shade of red as she spoke, was a good indication she was uncomfortable.
"Yes, I know how to recreate the injection you were using before." Going over to a filing cabinet, he pulled out a folder. Her name was written on it. It no doubt had all of her information, including her medical history. It was nothing like the issue made in her village.
"Wh--wha--what the... Wait a minute!" she blurted. "You have my medical history! How the fuck did you obtain that!?"
That would explain how Orochimaru knew her name and where she lived. But how did they get that information in the first place? Her hands clenched into fists. She already suspected the answer without him telling her.
"You’re the bastards who killed our men, aren't you!? He was so damn intrigued with me, doing whatever he could to get what he wanted. Going so far as to capturing my people, torturing them, and had them reveal the location of our village."
Glancing over at her, he shook his head. "There are easier ways to obtain information than interrogation." Taking the file to the table, he opened it. "Like you, I am a recon spy. I retrieve any information my lord asks me to. I could have been there, and you never would have noticed." Finding the spot he was looking for, he rummaged through his supplies to see if he had what he needed.
Frowning, she stepped closer, slamming her hand on the table. "You want me to cooperate here? I think you should do the same. It's only fair as you are the 'doctor'. Did you infiltrate my village?" Anger present through her words.
Looking away from the medicines when she did that, he sighed. She wasn't going to make this easy. "I did. The order was given by my lord himself."
She looked into his eyes and knew he was telling her the truth. Removing her hand, she turned away from him. "Three weeks ago, three of our shinobi were found tortured and killed. From the stories I've heard about Orochimaru, I know he can do the same. Though it's been quite awhile since the last time any word of him was mentioned. One of those ninja..." she paused a moment. "Was my father..." she took another deep breath. "There's no leads as to who or what killed them. I was forced to take some time off." Her voice showed signs of immense sadness.
Surprised she was telling him this. "Yes, we know of the attack," he replied, going through the medicines again. Diligent in his work.
Sarah rubbed at her eyes and snapped around. "What do you mean you know of the attack? How could you have known? You weren't there." She took a few quivering breaths. "You have no idea what I went through the day I saw them bring those bodies back to be buried. I was crushed. I have no family back in my village. I have no one! Someone knows what happened to three of our best ninja, and yet they found nothing."
Looking up again, he met her gaze and fixed his glasses. "I was there." Knowing she wouldn't believe him unless he showed her. He removed his glasses. "Remember your last remaining friend who went on a mission?"
Getting a good look at him, she then gasped. Taking several steps back. "Y--you...you were there...B--Buto” she breathed. Her mind drifted back to the day of the incident.
[Flashback]
Word was all over the place. Three ninja of the village were returning. Sarah was talking to her friend, Buto, a man who had become her companion in recent months. When she heard the news, Sarah smiled. "Father's back!"
She rushed over to greet the party but stopped suddenly, seeing they returned with three covered bodies.
"Father!?" she cried out, trying to push her way through. They had been getting warning signs about an attack on the village.
An ANBU of the village stopped Sarah in her tracks. "Sorry, we can't let you pass.”
"You have to let me through!" Sarah continued to try and push herself against the ANBU, not considering if she continued, she would be arrested.
Buto, who followed her, pulled her back against him. "Sarah, you have to calm down," he cautioned.
Seeing the girl was handled, the ANBU went back to helping with crowd control.
"No! That's my father! He needs me!" Sarah struggled to get out of Buto’s arms, to no avail. "You have to let me go! Let me go!" she cried as she thrashed and pushed, tears running down her face.
His grip held her easily without too much fuss. "Sarah, he's dead. There's nothing you can do for him."
"No!" she sobbed, losing all her strength then. Nearly collapsing to the ground, she was pulled against her friend's chest as she sobbed. She knew it wasn't the shinobi way to cry, but she couldn't help it. She just lost everyone, which made her the only remaining member of her family.
Holding her close, Buto let her cry into his chest. There wasn't much he could do for her, except comfort her.
That day Sarah completely broke down and her only friend was there for her the entire time, until the day came when he was asked to go on a mission... at least that's what he told her. Then a few days later she became Orochimaru's new interest.
[End flashback]
Little did she know her new friend, Buto, was actually Kabuto in disguise. His mission was to gather information about the Kunoichi. After retrieving the intel for his master, he was ordered to keep an eye on her, making sure no harm came to her.
"You lied to me..." she breathed. "I thought you were my friend!" Anger returning, clouding her mind. "You used me! What? Were you giving me comfort all this time just a ruse to tag me more for your 'Lord'?"
Putting his glasses back on, he shook his head. "That’s not the case." Going back over to the filing cabinet. "He told me to keep an eye on you. Nothing more." Kabuto then pulled something out of the drawer, appearing to be an old trinket that was very fragile. Walking back, he held it out to her. "That day, I believe you wanted to retrieve this from your father?"
Sarah's eyes widened more as tears surfaced. Her anger vanished. "Where did you get that?" She couldn't believe it. In his hands was a family heirloom from her mother. It was handed down through the family. "Father wore that everyday after mother died. It was her wedding present to him. Until her death, it was hung up on the wall of our house."
"It was on him when he went on the mission. The ANBU wouldn't let anyone near the bodies, remember? I retrieved it before they buried him." Handing it to her. "I assumed it was precious to you."
Tears trickled down her face. "It is." She took the family heirloom and then looked up into his face. "Were you ever my friend, or was it all just lies because of orders?" She needed to know.
"I was sent there to protect you. The rest was my choice." He wanted her to know, though not directly, he really had been her friend.
More tears tracked down her cheeks as her body started to tremble. Clutching the trinket to her chest. She felt the need to leave, but also wanted to thank him, and to slap him for deceiving her. He betrayed her by stealing her medical information, and she had no idea why. No one would give her any explanations and she knew she wouldn't get any either.
"I..." she began, but got choked up.
With a sigh, he embraced her like he used to.
Sarah gasped at the feeling of his arms around her again. They were strong and warm against her, only now this time there were in the snake's den, but it was the same embrace as before. Letting out a shaky breath, she embraced him back. His friendship was too important to push him away even after what he’d done.
"You were...are my friend." At least now it wasn't going to be so bad, since she knew someone, even if he did betray her. After a while, she pulled away and wiped her tears.
"I should have what you need by the time you’re due for the next injection," He said, getting back on their original topic, referring to the birth control.
Sarah’s blush resurfaced, remembering the reason she began to speak with him in the first place. She stepped over to the table again, looking at the file. Now there was a new reason to be annoyed. Her friend was also her medic. He would need to know her private details, which he already knew thanks to stealing her file and made an exact copy. With a huff, she turned away, leaving the room. Kabuto may still be her friend, but she was still angry with him. She needed time away to let it all sink in.
