[A place outside the physical world]
'Such it seems that all my jinchurikis have trouble conceiving' was the conclusion a giant fox made when the blonde Senju told her jailer about her apparent barrenness.
He vaguely remembered when the Uzumaki's belly was stabbed. She was losing a lot of blood, and the Kyubi had to shut her down so she wouldn't die and drag him down with her.
If that happened, it would take nearly 10 years for him to revive and regain his original power, and that would have been a complete hassle. He and the other bijuus had laughed their heads off at Kokuō when he died from a trap set for him by humans nearly 3 millennia ago. 10 years of being the weakest of them all turned into mockery from everyone else towards the five-tailed bijuu.
Kurama was in no way going to let his jinchuriki die such a pathetic death just to be the next target of the ridicule. NOT EVEN CRAZY KOKUŌ WOULD RETURN THE TAUNTS. NEITHER HE NOR ANY OF HIS SIBLINGS.
Still, he returned to the reproductive problems of his Jinchuriki. That news was both a fortune and a warning of trouble for him.
"If Tomato dies, then one of Ashura's descendant branches will die out with her" That was a good thing. In that case, when the Uzumaki dies, there will be no other to be a third jinchuriki, and he could be free again and not have to get involved with humans for a while. Even the Senjus, the other branch defending Ashura, was on the verge of extinction. Of them, only Tsunade was left, and she, too, has had no offspring.
If he only had to wait about 80 or 90 years, then this stupidity of the Jinchurikis would be over in the blink of an eye.
"But there were still those... Uchihas" are the offspring of Hagoromo's tantrum son, Indra's offspring.
If the Uzumaki and Senjus were extinct, then the only bearers of Rikudou Sennin's blood and representatives of his legacy would be that family of evil bastards with huge egos, arrogant and idiots with disgusting Sharingans... What could be worse?
They would make the Hasshirama look like a worthy successor to Hagoromo in comparison.
".... This is a big problem."
Kurama felt between a rock and a hard place. He would instead do nothing, let nature take its course and watch the death that Ashura's sons brought upon themselves with their wars and conflicts catch up with them. But on the other hand, that meant that Indra's sons would be the only ones alive.
On the other hand, Kurama could make some effort to heal Kushina's womb so that Kushina could have children. Better to live in a world together with Ashura's children than with Indra's children, and who knows? Maybe with the sudden fall of the Senju and Uzumaki, in the next few years, the Uchihas will be next. But he might not be so lucky.
But if he cured Kushina, he would be condemning himself to deal with a third Jinchuriki. How was the human saying? ....... Right; he'd be throwing a Kunai in his foot.
It either does something, or it doesn't. That problem would make the fox think hard.
"mh?" middle through his internal debate, Kurama noticed something in his jinchuriki. Those emotions that were reflected in his chakra.
The uncertainty.
The sadness.
The anger.
The anxiety.
Guilt.
Helplessness.
Things that are usually quite subtle could now be read easily. The fox demon stood for a while, taking in that storm of emotions, noticing their intensity, how they swirled and mingled like storm waters and didn't seem to stop even when the blonde brat told her Jinchuriki that she would be giving her more tests.
"..." a smile began to creep across the red-eyed being. "Maybe this could all work out in her favor."
[some time later; somewhere in Konoha]
In a windowless room, almost dark completely except for a lone candle. A meeting between two people is taking place. One kneeled on one knee, looking down at the floor in a waiting position, while the other looked at him dismissively and seriously.
"report," said a monotone voice of a man.
"Yes, Lord Danzo", replied firmly, a masked man leaning on one knee in front of him, keeping his head down even as he was allowed to speak. "In our monitoring of the Fourth Hokage and those close to him, we have seen some strange behavior in his wife" Danzo showed no particular reaction to that, his grave eyes judiciously kept on his subordinate. He simply kept silent and even delivered whether he was given important information or not "Miss Kushina has been making visits to Tsunade Senju in the hospital for the last 3 days. Staying on average 4 hours there."
"do you know why she has been seeing Tsunade so much?"
"Not entirely. We thought that Miss Uzumaki might be some kind of patient, so we tried to get her medical records and reports of what they had been doing. But a lot seems to be kept in Lady Tsunade's office. Only a few things in Miss Kushina's medical records indicate that it seems to be just a routine medical checkup."
"Have you found out what's really going on?" asked Danzo in a more sober and exciting voice.
"We have noticed an inconsistency in the medical reports. The tests and results seen in those reports don't match much with Miss Kushina's time in the hospital. Let alone with Lady Tsunade attending personally," the shinobi reported monotonously to his boss.
Danzo began to think about the report he had received. The <<routine checkup>> was clearly a cover for the public eye. 'If they are trying to keep the real reason hidden, it may be because if the public found out, it could have certain social or political consequences. If that were not the case, because of Uzumaki Kushina's way of being, she would not bother with subtle and indirect moves to get straight to the point. Outwardly, the bandaged man did not change his stoic appearance, but his interest in the subject was reflected in the thought of it. "Have you any ideas about this or seen anything relevant outside the hospital?"
"Since Lady Kushina's first visit to Lady Tsunade, it was observed that at times without people around her, she presents a subdued and pensive demeanor of her own. Very different from her usual way of being," commented the shinobi to his master, who was listening attentively. "Besides..." those words raised Danzo's eyebrows slightly in interest. "On one occasion, we saw how Lady Kushina looked depressed and stroked her belly after a visit to Lady Tsunade. So it occurred to us that all this could be related to a fertility problem."
Danzo listened carefully to the end of the report, tensing his expression, showing slight traces of concern and annoyance.
The possibility that he had fertility problems was palpable.
In his first days as Hokage, in the middle of a political meeting with nobles from the country's southern district, Minato was asked about his family, and he confessed his and his wife's interest in having children.
It has been 4 months since then, and neither Minato nor Uzumaki have shown any signs or behavior of expecting a baby. Even if they were not actively bragging about it, at the very least, one would expect Kushina to submit her request for Maternity Leave.
If that was the problem, certainly that could explain the secrecy the women kept the matter. For the general public to know that the fourth Hokage is infertile/impotent or that his wife was incapable of getting pregnant would generate a bit of a media scandal.
But in the big picture, that had no political value.
Minato Namikaze being said to have marital problems would not weaken his position as Hokage, his influence on village decision-making or his credibility. There might be those who would lose a little respect, or people would spread derisive whispers. But on the whole, that was utterly irrelevant to Danzo, as it would be of no use to him.
But the issue lay in the fact that the Jinchuriki could not have children. So much had been invested in having the Uzumaki clan serve the village, only to have it seemingly die out so easily.
'It seems any plan about that woman, for better or worse, doesn't go as expected.'
It was complicated and took a lot of work and planning to get a sole survivor of the destruction of Uzushiogakure exclusively in Konoha. Uzumaki Mito's advanced age and the need for a new container for the nine-tailed bijuu was significant factor in this. Some many bribes and deals had to be made in the council to support the idea of the Kyubi's second jinchuriki being as young, immature and politically inexperienced as possible. Receiving an 8-year-old girl was a stroke of luck.
The plan for her abduction by Kumo and rescue by Konoha to have her gratitude also did not go as they expected. A 2-year operation of selling fragmented information about the Jinchuriki through various third parties and restructuring surveillance in Konoha and the borders was a long process with many subtleties so as not to raise suspicions of the Hokage or his close loyalists. Having sold Kumo information about the village was a dangerous move, but being a village that lacked bloodlines and Kekei-genkais, they couldn't help but act as Danzo expected. When the possibility of a third jinchuuriki and the genetic inheritance of an almost extinct clan like the Uzumaki's, was in front of them, they simply could not resist the temptation.
More so when their intelligence noticed that reforms in the administration of the military forces caused <<accidentally>> some changes to be made to the border patrols and surveillance areas that allowed them a convenient infiltration route to abduct the jinchuriki.
Still, it was a surprise to discover how a few kilometers before reaching the rescue area, one genin alone had defeated the kidnappers and rescued the Jinchuriki.
After that rescue, Uzumaki Kushina became less resigned to wearing the symbol of Konoha and became more loyal to serving the village from that point. Her subsequent romantic relationship with her rescuer was also appreciated, as a partner or spouse was a bond that will keep her more attached to Konoha, prone to fight for the new home of her own free will and mainly; not to betray us.
It was an unexpected result, but it was ignored by Danzo and his as it successfully fulfilled the operation's objective. It even allowed Danzo and his hall gates to blame this incident on Hokage, reproached for his poor use of the Jinchuriki and his little control over it. Kumogakure almost successfully kidnapped the last Uzumaki under their noses. Reproaching such incompetence in the management of the village that if it were not for a mere genin, the village would have been left very vulnerable to other villages that did use their bijuus.
Hiruzen, as Hogake had been charged with most of the responsibility, so he began another reform in the military administration and an internal investigation to find out how those ninjas infiltrated.
In parallel, the kidnapping of the jinchuriki caused several political members who supported the Hokage to switch to his faction, in addition to those who remained neutral but were used to sell information. Those who did not join and tried to escape on their own were used as scapegoats and executed.
Leaving the case closed and Danzo and his faction against Hiruzen unpunished.
But if it all ended the same as the Senju, with a woman having no offspring, then much of what happened would have been useless. A valuable bloodline would be lost along with future Jinchurikis of the Kyubi, a military-political tool too essential to lose.
"Keep him on the lookout for anything regarding the matter", Danzo ordered firmly. "if it's really a fertility problem, I want you to find out the source of it."
"yes, lord Danzo", replied the Anbu masked ninja before retreating, leaving the bandaged man alone.
'If that woman is incapable of having children, then we will have to negotiate with Orochimaru or one of his research lackeys to give us a solution thought. Danzo remembers the near fiasco that was his experiment of installing the wood element in humans not genetically related to the Senju clan.
Out of 40 subjects, only one survived, and it was far inferior to what was Hashirama's power and ability.
'an imitation may not work, but it would be better than any other option we have available now.'

[Konoha hospital, two weeks after the last chapter]
When Tsunade had broken the news to Kushina, Kushina had seen her crumble. Then regained hope when she vowed to investigate her case and try to help her.
And now she saw her destroy that hope once again.
"I'm sorry, Kushina, but there's nothing I can do," the Senju said with an air of defeat. "The damage, while not total, I'd say it only leaves you with a 5% chance of getting pregnant... I'm really sorry.
The news was heartbreaking. The woman in front of the blonde had lowered her head and was covering her face with both palms, shoulders shaking, breathing in a choppy and broken manner.
The Uzumaki was on the verge of tears with such shocking news. Tsunade had been explaining how the damage to her belly was worse than it appeared at first glance. Her best hypothesis was that the weapon she was attacked with must have applied some kind of Jutsu to cause internal damage at the slightest cut. At that time, her other internal organs must have also suffered the same damage, but thanks to the Kyubi, they healed, but for some reason, her belly did not heal, or at least entirely.
"But I don't understand..." he said, wiping away some tears about to spill, making an effort not to make his voice sound not broken "being the Kyubi's Jinchūriki meant having a healing factor. Why does the damage not heal completely?" Ever since she found out that her old wound was the cause of her inability to have children, the Uzumaki couldn't stop thinking, why did she have that wound? Since, like forever, every single wound on her body healed quickly and almost perfectly, why was it on that one that the <<almost>> applied?
"Well, although we don't know much about Jinjurikis, having you and my grandmother as a reference, I think the Kyubi only treats wounds with certain severity and doesn't heal them completely", the Senju began to explain, "remember that time you broke your arm when you were genin? Within a few hours, your bones had almost completely recovered, but after a certain point, your recovery stopped being so fast and continued at the pace of a normal person" Kushina started to think about that and other similar events in her life. If Tsunade was right, it explained why the scratches and other superficial wounds she had sustained throughout her career as a ninja didn't heal at the speed of more serious ones.
But understanding didn't stop Kushina from becoming depressed at realising she couldn't be a mother. The blonde looked at her with considerable sadness and sympathy. She had met the Uzumaki shortly after she arrived in the village. At that time, Tsunade had already been somewhat attentive to the girl and helped her from time to time because her grandmother Mito had asked her to do so in writing after she died. Her grandmother wanted her to take care of the Second Jinjuriki of the Kyubi.
At first, she only did it out of obligation and to escape the war a bit, but after her depression over the destruction of her home. When she tried to cheer her up, Tsunade sympathised with her as they had both lost a lot in a very short time.
Tsunade loved Kushina very much, almost like a daughter, though she herself was incapable of seeing herself as a mother figure to anyone. So she preferred to think of herself as a kind of big sister or an aunt of sorts.
Because of that relationship, she knew how she would take the news and that this would be the kind of reaction. Tsunade disliked seeing her like this, and so she took more time than she had promised at the time in search of a solution of some sort.
"Kushina, maybe..." The Senju bit her tongue before averting her gaze from Kushina, who had lifted her face bathed in sadness and looked into her eyes with doubt and hope. The blonde Senju woman returned her gaze, unable to help but see Kushina for a moment as that child she had only once in her life had to comfort. Then, Tsunade took a deep breath, clenched her fists, straightened her back and tried to put on her best face for what she was about to say "...maybe there is a solution", commented the blonde gaining all the attention of the redhead who was beginning to free herself a little from that depressive aura that surrounded her. Replacing it with one of incomprehension, "I've been thinking about this ever since I discovered your problem. .. and I came to the conclusion that if the Kyubi heals mortal and severe wounds, altogether avoiding the superficial ones... that means that the healing factor is not something passive as we thought, maybe he can choose to heal them at his whim or at least he has some sort of criteria for this.
The Uzumaki looked at the Senju again for what she was saying. She didn't understand what exactly she was referring to, but she was talking as if that was a solution to his problem.
"What do you mean?" the Uzumaki asked.
"That... may be the reason why the Kyubi didn't completely heal your uterus at that time was because of his own will, despite having the ability to heal it." said the Senju making Kushina's mouth drop open at that theory.
"But if you couldn't, do you think he could?" asked Kushina, doubtful and unsure of that idea.
"Probably. The Kyuubi's healing factor is very different from traditional medical ninjutsu and is on a higher level, even for me," admitted Tsunade.
In wounds and traumatic injuries, medical ninjutsu accelerates the human body's natural healing to significant levels, using the doctor's chakra as the source of energy the cells use to multiply and weld broken bones.
Those like Tsunade, who reached a more advanced degree, could force healing at speed almost bordering on unnatural. But never cross that threshold.
But from the few trials, he had to see that the healing factor of the Jinchurikis was different. Instead of repairing all tissues and blood vessels or welding broken bones from soft tissue and cartilage, Biju's chakra works by destroying and producing entirely new cells.
Simply put, the chakra completely destroys everything that is damaged or minimally defective at the cellular level. Then that same chakra generates out-of-nothing cells that replace what was destroyed immediately and continue until the damage is completely healed.
Or so it should be if the process did not stop almost at the end.
A completely unnatural process that treats mortal wounds in mere seconds, as long as the Jinchuriki does not receive instant death damage.
The level of that process was such that Tsunade thought chakra could cure things as serious as cancer and diseases. Perhaps that was the reason why her grandmother Mito managed to reach such an advanced age, even with an immune system weakened by the years.
Tsunade had no proof, but in her eyes, it was something very possible.
But none of that was of complete interest to the Uzumaki, who was silent at that suggestion, was that thing really her only solution?
"I... I must think about it," were the words with which she ended that meeting.
"ok, think about it."

After her meeting with Tsunade, Kushina hadn't stopped thinking about it all day. She managed to keep Minato from asking about the results, so they both went to sleep after dinner.
Later in the night, while the blond man slept, the woman in pyjamas was wide awake with a pensive aura.
She stirred to fly to see the man she married sleeping beside her. The man she loved and with whom she wanted to start a family.
As if she was charged with motivation at the sight of him. The redhead sighed somewhat heavily before lying down and finally closing her eyes.
[Mental space]
Emptiness.
A large void was the only thing that could be seen when the Jinjuriki opened her eyes. All around her could only be seen an ample blank space that seemed to have no end, a place that didn't even seem to have the floor.
There was nothing there except for a giant floating stone above her, on which was a huge orange 9-tailed fox bound with glowing chains and stakes driven into each of its paws and tails.
She looked at it with a severe expression on her face, but even so, there were hints of displeasure etched on her face. She looked like she didn't really want to see it.
While on the other hand, the fox similarly notices her, but with him showing confidence and arrogance. It watched her as if she was some sort of nuisance that he hoped was entertaining.
"Well, looks like you deigned to come to see me after all these years," he said, leaning his body forward a bit to look directly at her.
"Kyubi," she said curtly but trying to sound firm and threatening. "I came here because-"
"I know" , interrupted the monster, "you came because you want to know if I can heal your uterus so you can have children, right?" he asked rhetorically, to which his jailer merely nodded her head.
"Can you do that?" she asked, trying never to change her tone or expression, hiding any sign of distress or weakness.
"Yes, I can do it without any problem," he said, sure of his words, noticing how, despite a mask of seriousness that his jailer wanted to show, emotions like relief and doubt invaded the redhead's heart. Perhaps unconsciously growing a smile on his face. "But" immediately, that smile left the human's face, turning into one of surprise ", I won't do it for free. I have my conditions."
"Which ones?" she said distrustfully, she knew that anything she asked for would be out of the question, but if she was already here, she could at least hear what she wanted.
"I have 3 requests. The first is that you remove the seals that restrict me. You don't need to remove the one that keeps me inside you" if Kushina wanted a reason to outright refuse, the fox made it easy for her. She would dream of weakening the seal that imprisoned him in a heartbeat. But the Kyubi kept talking before the redhead said anything, "the second and third .... " The Uzumaki swallowed saliva, waiting to know what else he wanted to ask. "I'll keep it to myself until you comply with the first, though I'll just tell you that it's a steep price."
"forget it," she said, sure of her words. Her duty as Jinchūriki was to keep the bijju locked up in her, so it wouldn't cause the destruction of the world. "Lady Mito spent most of his life keeping you locked up. I will not dishonor her memory by releasing you, even partially" she didn't plan to put the village at risk for her selfish wish... even if it meant not being able to be a mother.
She decided to end that conversation right then and there, but before she snapped back to reality, the beast said something that paralyzed her at that very moment.
"So then? You will let the Uzumaki clan die, eh?" suggested the fox, who saw his jailer stop in her tracks. Smirking, he added, " because, after all, you are the last living member of that clan, aren't you?" the human's hands began to shake as he clenched his fists, "you say you don't want to disgrace Mito by releasing me, but I wonder how disappointed and disgraced she would feel if she knew that you chose to protect Konoha instead of reviving your clan?"
Kushina's mind froze at that moment. The moment he mentioned that her actions would cause the extinction of the Uzumaki clan, all the will, confidence and conviction she had wavered.
And for him to mention that Mito would also be disappointing... It made her feel a great sense of guilt. And without meaning to, she thought of her parents. The last time she saw them was when she left Uzushiogakure many years ago when she was barely a child. She wondered how she would react the day she saw them in the afterlife if she really let the clan die.
True, Konoha was not her village, but it was also the village she grew up in. Konoha is just as important, right? Although she had a bad reception from the children when she was a girl, that was all in the past. She loved Konoha.
She had great friends, thousands of experiences, her own husband and the person she loved the most seeing here, but Then... Why did she hesitate?
Before she could say another word, the woman opened her eyes and was met with the ceiling of her room. She turned her head to the left to find the sleeping face of her beloved husband.
Kushina decided to lie down to finally sleep. Slipping under the covers, she approached Minato and hugged him lightly so as not to wake him up, snuggling next to him, feeling against her skin the warmth that comforted her in these difficult moments. Despite not having slept a wink before seeing that fox, she now felt a great deal of tiredness suddenly possessed her.
She rested her head on the pillow to rest. She had the feeling that ever since Tsunade had suggested she ask for the Kyubi's help, the day had lasted an eternity.
...
[The next day, in the evening.]
"Minato... can we talk?" She speaks with her voice somewhat muffled.
Kushina and Minato had just finished dinner. It was a quiet evening that ended with a relatively simple and basic dinner. Minato had noticed that his wife wasn't feeling well emotionally and that she looked a bit down. But when he asked her, she simply said yes, but that she would rather talk about it when he returned from the office.
Now Kushina, in front of the sink with the dirty dishes, looked like she already wanted to talk about what had her like this.
The Uzumaki turned off the water, walked to the kitchen, and sat at the table. Minato did the same without a word and sat down across from her.
The redhead was silent for a few seconds, not even knowing how to begin.
"................... I think... you might have noticed that I've been weird lately, right?" the blond didn't say anything, just nodded with some concern "listen, Minato... what's been going on is...."
Finally, she spoke. For quite some time, Kushina explained the situation to her husband. She told him about her injury in the war, the damage it caused her, the tests Tsunade gave her and most importantly (and most difficult for her), she told him about her infertility. The only thing she didn't say to him about was her attempt to make a deal with the Kyubi. She didn't consider it important, or maybe she didn't want him to know that she really considered it.
Minato listened to all that in silence, but that didn't stop him from putting on an increasingly prominent expression of surprise with each new thing he said. At the same time, he also began to understand why his beloved was a bit strange lately, but mostly he was overcome with worry.
Not because of the fact that his wife was infertile but because he knew how much Uzumaki wanted to start a family, and he could guess how that was something that was tearing her and consequently him apart as well.
When she finished, Kushina stood silently with her head down. She couldn't look at her husband. Or rather, she didn't want him to see her like this, so sad and so... vulnerable.
She didn't want to look at the blond, so she didn't notice when he got up from the chair and came over to hug her in a comforting way.

[Some time later]
It had been about a month since the redhead told her husband about her infertility.
It was difficult at first.
Despite telling him she couldn't get pregnant, Kushina still hadn't entirely accepted it. With everything on her mind up to that point, I never had time to digest it.
All that time, she had been coming to terms with the idea. Minato supported her, promising that he still loved her even if they couldn't have children. Even though it may not seem like much, she really valued that, and he helped her in his own way.
These last few days, the redhead was able to get over the pain of her "problem". So she and the blonde discussed taking the "other step".
Adoption.
Kushina might not get to have a baby that was hers and her husband's like she would have wanted, but that didn't mean she was going to give up on the idea of having a family. They would have one. It would just be something different than what they had imagined.
It turned out to be more complicated than they had imagined, though. Because questions arose, that had never been asked.
Did they want a baby or one that was already a few years old (5 or 4)? Now that they had a choice, did they want a boy or a girl? Should they name it a new name or use the one it might already have?
They had a lot of questions they had never thought about (beyond whether they wanted a girl or a boy) that they hadn't figured out yet.
But eventually, they would get through it.
*toc*toc*toc*.
Halfway through breakfast, where both Minato and Kushina had the day off, someone knocked on the door, and Minato opened it to see his advisors Homura and Koharu.
“Lord Yondaime, Lady Kushina. We're sorry for the unexpected visit, but could we talk?" asked the older woman, Koharu.
Maybe things weren't going to be that easy.
...
[A talk later]
It turned out that both counselors went to the Uzumaki-Namikaze residence for an issue they needed to discuss with them privately.
The lack of news of any heir of theirs.
They explained to the Hokage and his wife that both being two of the best shinobi in Konoha, the village expected great things from children with their genes. Ninjas with the talent of yellow flash, chakra reserves, and physical capabilities like the red habanero. Besides, Kushina also came from an ancient clan with genetic traits that Konoha couldn't afford to lose.
But it had been too long since the war had ended and since the village had entered a brief period of peace. In his opinion, by now, they should have known something about Kushina's pregnancy. That they received no news at all was somewhat worrisome.
Minato understood the concern of both counselors. After all, the next generation was the future of the village. Aside from the fact that, like it or not, the day would come when the next Kyubi Jinchūriki would be needed and that the Uzumaki clan was the only known one capable of being one, and his wife was the last of these...
The Hokage gave his wife a slight glance to his side as if asking permission to tell them.
Kushina caught the look her husband sent her way and only nodded reluctantly.
"Homura-san, Koharu-san, I understand your reasons, but I'm afraid that won't be possible," said the blond, which was strange and puzzled the elderly couple. "You see, the reason we don't have children yet is because......"
[Another talk later]
"I see," said Homura with an understanding tone. "I'm sorry for your condition Lady Kushina," he said regarding the redhead, who only nodded to reciprocate. Although her face was neutral, specific hints of annoyance could be seen.
She didn't hate those two advisors, but she disliked them a bit. Mainly because after the news of the destruction of Uzushiogakure reached the village, those two were the first to propose the clan reconstruction law, wanting to give her as a husband to an Uchiha or a Hyuga to rebuild the Uzumaki clan.
'They didn't even bother to hide that they saw us as guinea pigs for an experiment to cross bloodlines, ' Kushina recalled bitterly when it was suggested to be related to a member of some prestigious clan for their genetic blessings.
Rather than reconstructing clans, it was more like treating them like show dogs and putting them into an artificial selection project.
Good thing her husband was Minato, who was the best ninja in town.
"Yes, it really is a pity," said Koharu, " but still, they shouldn't do any adoption, " declared the old woman, surprising the Namikaze and the Uzumaki.
"What, why?" asked the redhead with a bit of anger in her tone.
"While the fate of the Uzumaki's is indeed unfortunate, you Minato are still fertile and fully capable of leaving offspring," said the councilwoman, being followed by her colleague Homura.
"That's right, you have proven that you are a very valuable asset, so your children, even if they are not blood relatives of Lady Kushina, could be great assets to the village."
"Are you asking me to have a relationship and have a child with another woman?" he asked in an obviously rhetorical manner, showing how he was somewhat offended and annoyed by that suggestion.
"No, if you did something that could be construed as infidelity, it would cause a big scandal since you are the Hokage", clarified Homura "rather, we suggest using an external womb. Using a sample of your seed to inseminate the uterus of a Kunoichi volunteer that will allow you to have a child and at the same time be politically acceptable," he explained, calming the Yondaime a little, but without getting him to take off his lousy face.
"But still..."
"Minato, if you agreed to the idea of adopting a child who isn't related to either of you, then what's the problem with raising one who is at least blood-related to you?"
"I understand your point, but still-"
"The loss of almost the entire Senju clan was a hard blow to the village at the time, and you know it. Now the possible extinction of the Uzumaki clan will also be a great misfortune, and we are still not fully recovered from the war," Koharu said with a serious look on his face. On the other hand, the Uzumaki simply clenched her fists tightly under the table when she mentioned her clan.
Minato wanted to respond but didn't. He knew they were right, that someday the peace they lived in would eventually end, and the village would need capable ninjas to defend it. But still, he didn't want to admit it.
"get out…" the silence that formed was cut off when suddenly a voice was heard. Everyone flew to see Kushina, who spoke for the first time in a while. Her voice was low but severe and cold at the same time.
"Kushina", whispered Minute as he saw how his wife took the conversation and was also surprised that she didn't burst out in anger as she would have done on similar occasions in the past.
"Excuse me?" said Kaoru, surprised that the redhead would say something so rude out of the blue, despite knowing beforehand that she used to be somewhat volatile.
"I want you to leave my house," said the Uzumaki with an even louder tone and with more palpable anger.
"Be more respectful, Kushina. You're talking to the councilmen-
The old woman was about to reprimand the redhead for making such a rude demand. But she was interrupted by an aura that her days as a ninja translated as "danger".
"I said, I want you to get out of my house...." said the Uzumaki with venom in her tone. At the same time, she began to release the Kyubi's murderous aura and looked directly at the elders, which became even more threatening with her eyes in red along with ripped pupils like those of an animal. "Now!"
It didn't take much longer for both elders to obey the woman, and in a matter of seconds, they left the Uzumaki-Namikaze residence.
When both councilors left. The Uzumaki-Namikaze household was silent, with an enraged Kyubi Jinjuriki trying not to explode.
Thus continued the day and then the night. During all that time, both husband and wife did not talk much about it.
[almost a week later]
The red-haired Uzumaki was walking through the corridors of the Hokage tower. She was dressed in her plain civilian clothes, which consisted of a white sleeveless blouse and a black skirt that reached almost to her ankles. It was the clothing she usually wore, only it was hidden by the green apron she wore at home. Also, in her hands, she carried a small box that was wrapped in a blue cloth.
Kushina rarely brought lunch to her husband. He usually made some time to come home for about an hour or so to have lunch with her. When she couldn't, she would make one for him to take with him, but on this occasion, she forgot.
She knew there wasn't much point in taking it to him, he could literally show up in the kitchen, grab it and then be back to work in less than 10 seconds, but Uzumaki preferred to give it to her herself. She wanted to take the opportunity to walk around for a while and clear her thoughts.
*toc*toc*
Kushina waited a few moments for an answer ".... Minato?" she asked when she received no response.
When met with silence, she decided to simply open the door and walk through. She saw that the office was completely empty.
He decided not to stay long and simply left his lunch on the table. Also, it occurred to him that he would leave a note so that no one but him would touch it.
When he looked for some blank paper and something to write with, the redhead saw a neat stack of documents on his desk, where the first sheet showed the file of a village kunoichi. She looked pretty young.
Out of curiosity (and paranoia of the possible actions the council was taking), she looked at the file.
It was not very remarkable. 21-year-old female, chunin with possible promotion to jounin, not from a ninja clan, no diseases or defects in her genes?...her menstrual cycle is...
'What the hell is this?' she wondered, surprised to see what kind of information was on that card. It wasn't a normal one.
She looked away from the paper and saw that there was another card from a kunoichi. This time an Uchiha.
She took another page and skimmed it, the same kind of information. In less than 3 seconds, She looked away and searched for more.
She found about 7 without difficulty, though there were possibly more. All of them were young women, disease free and completely fertile.
The Uzumaki didn't have to think too hard about what they were. This was the act of the council, and these were the volunteers they wanted Minato to have a child with.
And knowing them, if Minato didn't give up soon, they would involve the Daimyo of the fire country to get him on their side.
Kushina simply walked away from there, annoyed and with her eyes lowered. She didn't want to see anyone in the state she was in.
[Elsewhere.]
"glup*glup*glup*, AH~~~" an adult woman exhaled with satisfaction as she removed the sake bottle from her red lips. 'I really needed a drink, she thought to herself as she leaned back on the bench she was sitting on and leaned against a wall behind her.
She looked up to see the clouds gliding gently across the blue sky.
Tsunade really liked that place. It was one of the hospital gardens where patients (those who were allowed to get out of bed) could come to get some fresh air.
However, no one came to this part.
Mainly because the genius who was in charge of the design had decided to place the garden so close to the building, and in such an area, the place was constantly bathed by the shadow of the hospital itself. And that might be a bit depressing for some.
But the Senju preferred it that way. Since no one was coming, the place was quiet, and no one was looking for her there. It was the perfect place she could go when she wanted to escape the stress of being the head of the hospital. Or to keep Shizune from watching her drink her sake in peace.
"Tsunade" a voice from another woman in the place alerted the blonde. For a second, she panicked, thinking it was Shizune and that her happy place had been ruined, but it didn't take long to recognize the timbre of the voice. She turned to look at the person speaking to her and discovered it was Kushina "do you have a moment?"
"Yes, of course," she said with a slightly surprised expression on her face. She hadn't seen the woman since she informed him about the state of her body, more specifically at her inability to bear a child. As far as she knew from Minato, she was somewhat depressed "come, sit down." she moved her body to her right to make a place for the Jinchūriki.
The Jinchūriki sat beside her and remained silent, with her head looking straight ahead.
In the same way, the doctor observed her and examined her body language. She looked off and somewhat melancholy.
"The Kyubi said he can heal me," she said without looking at Sannin and surprising her. Since she didn't receive any kind of news from Kushina, it occurred to the blonde that her theory was wrong.
"Then why didn't he do it?" The honey-eyed woman asked. If the fox really could heal her, so she doesn't have to be so sad. There must be a profound reason behind it.
"Because his price is the one to undo most of the seals holding him back", Uzumaki confessed even without looking at the other woman. Tsunade was silent as she connected the dots and understood why she hadn't healed "at the time, I rejected it..." she said with a severe but somewhat melancholic tone, which made the blonde raise an eyebrow as she didn't understand what the redhead was referring to. Kushina put a hand to her belly and then took a deep breath "...but now I'm going to take up on his offer."
The Senju opened her eyes wide at such a statement. She even felt how she lost her balance from surprise for a few moments, and her sake bottle almost fell from between her fingers.
When she regained her composure, in one swift movement, she got up from her seat and stood in front of Kushina, grabbing her by the shoulders.
"Are you crazy?" she asked the redhead. She didn't raise her voice too much so as not to draw the attention of anyone who might hear them, but it was still loud enough to notice that she was annoyed and worried simultaneously. "I know your condition affects you. But are you really planning to do something so dangerous just so you can be a mother?"
Kushina didn't answer him, just calmly raised her hands and took Tsunade's hands.
"Do you remember when I told you my secret...? That there was a time when I was the heiress of the Uzumaki clan, and that if I hadn't left Uzushiogakure and hadn't been attacked, I would be the leader of the clan......" Tsunade remembered that. For years, she had kept an aspect of her life hidden so as not to draw unwanted attention. "My parents and many others died trying to make the clan survive, and though they did not succeed, I am proud of them...." The Uzumaki looked up to meet the Senju's eyes directly, and in her eyes, what she showed was nothing but one of steely determination. "And now I must see that the clan does not become extinct. Otherwise, it would be like spitting on the sacrifices of my relatives. And I will not allow it."
Tsunade wanted to say something to her, to persuade, to make her see reason so that she would not commit a folly. But she knew it was useless. She knew Kushina well enough to see that look meant she had no intention of backing down, no matter what.
The ninja doctor only lowered her gaze in bitterness.
"You know you can be charged with treason if you do that and get caught, right?" asked Tsunade in a last attempt to make the woman think again.
"Yes," she replied calmly, "but I'm also doing this for the village", she replied with a kinder tone. "And without a Jinchūriki, the village will lose a lot of military power, and such an imbalance of power could cause a fourth ninja war. The last one was already too ugly, and we don't want another" with that last argument, Tsunade had to agree that the younger woman had a valid point.
"War is an inevitable thing. In the long run, there will be a fourth great war whether we have a Jinchūriki or not." While her words had sense and substance right now, what Tsunade was saying sounded like a mere excuse with no force.
The redhead was right that it could be bad that Konoha no longer had the power of the Kyubi, but what Kushina suggested was not a good alternative either. "Look, Tsunade, I didn't come to you today for your advice, approval, or anything like that. I came to tell you my decision and ask for your help in this," Kushina replied without showing to be affected by Tsunade's words.
The blonde woman didn't expect that and put on a confused face. "How could I help you?" she asked, unable to imagine what the Uzumaki wanted her to do.
"If the Kyubi keeps his word and heals my uterus, Minato and anyone else who knew about my condition will have questions about how it happened", she explained. To which the honey-eyed woman just nodded her head, "and if they ask, I want you to tell them that it was thanks to you. That you say you used some new method or something like that. .... Can I count on you to do that if the situation calls for it?"
Tsunade kept silent at the request. She didn't like what the redhead was going to do ".... *sigh* okay, I'll give you an alibi in case there are doubts", but in the end, she gave up. If she couldn't convince Kushina to change her mind, At least she would try to reduce the damage. With that, she spoke, "If you manage to conceive a baby and someone asks, say that I used a new method I was developing specifically for your situation and that I achieved it thanks and only to the Kyuubi's chakra, then I'll think about the details."
"Thank you," the Jinchūriki said with a happy and calm smile. Tsunade's acceptance to help her was a weight off her mind.
Now she had to talk to the fox demon to make the deal.
Hoping deep in her heart, she would not regret what she did.
