For some reason this chapter was giving me a lot of trouble, but I finally kicked my arse into gear and got around to finishing it. I hope I still have readers for this *winces*

I hope you'll like this chapter - in spite of the huge delay.
Part 3
Their first kiss happened on a beautiful January morning in the library. Of course it was the library, where else would it be when Naruto had come to consider that small window spot to be theirs?
They had been discussing a novel Naruto had started to read a week ago when Naruto had become distracted by the sunlight peeking through the heavy clouds, making the bushes outside glisten with the raindrops from last night. The plants shimmered like they had been coated with fine diamond dust and Naruto got up from his chair, moving closer to the window so that he could get a better view of the little spectacle.
He was aware on some level that Sasuke had come to stand next to him, looking out of the window as well. "It's so pretty," he murmured, eyes glued on a robin daintily hopping from one bush to the next one, searching for food.
"Very pretty," Sasuke agreed.
Naruto's initial thought was being happy that Sasuke was enjoying the beautiful view outside as well until his peculiar tone registered. He blinked, bemused, and turned his head to look at Sasuke, wondering why he sounded so odd about a simple agreement.
Sasuke wasn't looking out of the window. Instead he was gazing down at Naruto, an odd look in his eyes. There wasn't anything bad about that look, nothing that made Naruto uneasy, but nevertheless it had his stomach squirming slightly; his breath quickening a tad for some reason.
"Thought you were looking outside," Naruto mumbled, fiddling with his fingers.
The prince smiled. "The view outside is nice, but I find that the most beautiful sight is right here, in front of me."
Startled, Naruto started looking behind him, curious as to what had caught Sasuke's attention like that, until the man laughed softly, making him stare at him wide-eyed.
"You are so innocent, I feel like a fiend for what I want to ask of you," Sasuke smiled, shaking his head lightly.
Naruto pouted, feeling slighted by the comment. "I'm not innocent," he protested. "What do you want to ask of me?"
"You are, very much so," Sasuke disagreed and his hand reached out to cup Naruto's cheek gently.
The light touch, no heavier than if a butterfly would land on him, had Naruto's breath hitching nonetheless; the squirming of his stomach worsening. At once he was very much aware of how close the prince stood to him, the pressing silence reigning in the library, only disturbed by their breathing.
Sasuke's shirt rustled when his other hand rose up to cup Naruto's other cheek and then he was cradling his face between his warm hands, holding him as if he were something precious.
Black eyes shone when Sasuke asked quietly, "May I kiss you?"
Naruto licked his lips, finding them astonishingly dry, and wanted to reply, but no words seemed to form in his mouth. Instead he simply nodded once; a jerky move, almost imperceptible with Sasuke's hands still cradling his face carefully.
Sasuke smiled, the shine in his eyes grew, and then he was bending down, capturing Naruto's lips in a soft kiss. The second their mouths touched, dry, but so soft, Naruto's entire face seemed to erupt with fire and his hands shot out, grabbing Sasuke's elbows to steady himself as he clenched his eyes shut, pressing tentatively back into the kiss.
It couldn't be a good kiss for the prince, not with Naruto completely inexperienced, his only knowledge about kissing coming from bawdy books he secretly read at night, but nevertheless the dark haired man didn't pull back when Naruto kissed him back. In fact, he murmured an approving sound deep in his throat; a noise which made Naruto weak in the knees, had him tightening his grip on Sasuke's arms.
Even though the kiss didn't pass the territory of closed mouths, didn't even have their lips opening, Naruto was left panting slightly by the time Sasuke drew back slowly, ending the kiss by placing a small one on the corner of his mouth. As he stood there, still holding onto the prince, his cheeks ablaze and his mouth tingling, he found himself wondering: if such a kiss already made him so light-headed, so floaty, how would it feel like if they were to go any further? If those hands still cradling his face would move down, further down, beneath his clothes, would touch his bare skin, brand them with their heat, and –
He shut down that train of thought before he would do something even more embarrassing than blushing like he'd held his face above a firepit.
Sasuke was smiling wryly when he opened his eyes. "I told myself I would do right by you and here I am, already stealing a kiss."
"I don't mind," Naruto blurted out and god, was it even possible still to keep blushing? He felt like his whole head would burst apart soon with how hot it felt.
His quick, honest retort had Sasuke chuckling, caressing his left cheekbone before he kissed him gently on his forehead. "Even so, I want you to know that what I feel for you is not a passing fancy. This between us – I am serious about it."
While those words warmed him, the reality of who they were trickled like ice over his spine and he bit down on his lip. "I'm just an Omega," he said lowly, unwilling to look the prince in his eyes. An Omega and a prince – that only worked in fairy tales and life was anything but a fairy tale.
Two fingers slid underneath his chin, lifted his head up so that he was forced to look Sasuke straight in the eye. "You're not just an Omega," he said forcefully, a small furrow between his eyebrows. "You're Naruto, the man I've fallen in love with."
"Others … They will not like this," Naruto cautioned carefully.
He had had no dealings so far with the rest of the royal family, no reason to be near them, and while they sounded like wonderful people judging by Sasuke's descriptions, Naruto had a hard time believing they would be happy once it became known that the youngest Prince was going after an Omega. An Omega from their own Comfort Quarters. He swallowed; for the first time since arriving at the castle feeling ashamed of where he lived. Even though the whole castle seemed to know he was not like the other Omega in that he refused to bed anyone, that did not mean the king and queen would be happy to know that their youngest son had set his eyes on an Omega.
Rumours would start, he could already envision that; unease like tar settling in the pit of his belly. Nobody would believe he was untouched simply because of where he lived now. A prince with a defiled Omega? Nobody would ever approve of that even if no defilement had ever taken place.
"Don't worry about them," Sasuke stated firmly. "Once we're ready to announce ourselves, I'm certain my parents and my brother will be overjoyed. They will not care one wit that you are an Omega."
"Still, others might," Naruto murmured, gnawing on his lip. He knew all too well just how quickly rumours could go around in the castle and outside of it. He himself had been a target of them for months since his arrival, after it became clear that he was not like all the other Omega present and definitely was not interesting in lying with anyone here.
"Others will know better than to run their mouth," Sasuke said and ran his thumb across Naruto's lower lip, rescuing it from the teeth's abuse. "We can take it slow if you want. Meet privately until you're ready for more."
"Okay," Naruto agreed quietly, giving in to the desire to hug the other man.
Meeting the king and queen as Sasuke's love interest was a daunting thought, but if he could have the prince a little while to himself at least, he thought that would make him braver. They needed the time either way, if only to figure out whether they were truly compatible in this manner. He really hoped they were.
Sasuke's lingering kiss held the same hope.
Naruto had expected their private meetings to be far and in between, given the busy schedule of the prince, but somehow he and Sasuke managed to meet at least once a week. Their preferred place to see each other remained the library, for it offered a lot more privacy than walking in the gardens did or trying to find a quiet space somewhere within the many corridors of the castle.
There, in their little nook, they enjoyed each other's company, talked about books and exchanged many, many kisses which often left Naruto breathless and blushing like mad – which only seemed to encourage Sasuke even further to kiss him again. Naruto definitely didn't mind that. He loved the feeling of Sasuke's mouth against his, how their lips moulded together perfectly. The first time they both opened their mouths and their tongues touched, a shock ran through the Omega's body as if a lightning bolt had struck him. Unlike an actual lightening bolt, this sensation was definitely far more pleasant and he often caught himself daydreaming about this particular type of kiss during the days he couldn't see the older man.
"You seem to be a lot happier than before," Haku observed one day, early March.
Naruto blinked, taken aback by the comment. He had been browsing through the book with fairy tales he'd borrowed from the library, trying to decide which one Haku and Karin would like to hear the most.
"You really do," Karin agreed easily. She was stretched out across his bed, lying on her belly, with her chin resting on her hands. She smiled mischievously; her eyes glittering. "Anything in particular that caused this change?"
The blond man scoffed, resting the open book in his lap. "You make it sound as if I looked miserable all the time."
"Well, you were not constantly laughing either," Haku said carefully, tilting his head to the left. He sat with his legs crossed next to Karin, playing absently with her long red hair. "We couldn't help but notice that you appear a lot lighter these days."
"Just becoming more comfortable here I guess," Naruto muttered and shrugged, praying that his cheeks weren't as pink as they felt at this moment.
The other two exchanged a glance before Haku smiled and Karin reached out to squeeze Naruto's knee. "Well, whatever it is, we're happy for you. And if you ever want to talk about something, we're here."
"I know," he smiled and cleared his throat. "All right, ready for your story?"
The arrival of three new Omega led to people having to change rooms. As far as Naruto knew, these three were willingly here and definitely hadn't come from an abusive household like he and Karin had. With the three added to the Comfort Quarters, staff spent an entire day trying to figure out who would have to share a room with whom and who could have one to themselves. The more vocal ones amongst the group demanded the rooms near the back of the quarters, because the walls there were thicker and would block sounds better.
"I didn't think they cared that much about being able to sleep," Naruto said idly, watching the staff hustling about from a chair in the corner near the entrance.
Haku snorted, hiding his hands in his long sleeves. "They definitely do not care for sleep. They only want those rooms so they can be as loud as they want to be when entertaining guests." He rolled his eyes. "Classy as they are."
"Oh." Naruto blinked, feeling heat creep up his neck. Right, he hadn't considered that possibility. Stupid of him.
"I'm not complaining." Karin clucked her tongue and came to stand with them, still dressed in her morning robes.
Her hair was a mess and from the corner of his eye Naruto could see Haku's arm twitching as if he wanted to grab a comb and go to war with it on her hair. He masked a grin. It never failed to amuse him how fussy the slender man could be when it concerned hair.
"By gods, but some of those girls can scream like banshees," she grimaced, discreetly nodding at some of the girls in question, like the pink haired woman who Naruto saw often trying to flirt with Sasuke.
At first it had aggravated him to see that happening and a small part of him had worried that Sasuke's attention would move away from him to her, but he had quickly come to realise that he had nothing to fear from her. Sasuke couldn't be any clearer that he wasn't interested in her and she seemed not to grasp that acting desperate about trying to get into his trousers would only lead her to returning to the Comfort Quarters empty handed. He would feel sorry for her, but frankly, this humiliation was all on her. One would think that after being rejected for twenty-six times already – Haku was helpfully keeping count for all of them – she would get a clue, but alas.
"I do not understand how they haven't scared off the men yet," Karin continued, stretching her arms. One of the staff members, a guy with lanky white hair and black eyes leered at her, but she ignored him. "I wouldn't want to fuck someone who's intent on destroying her own voice, but to each their own I suppose. We can only hope that for once they get what they want and the rest of us will finally have a peaceful night."
Naruto hummed in agreement. There had been many a night when he had been woken up, startled out of his sleep by the screaming coming from one of the rooms. The first few times he'd worried that something bad had happened, but Haku had been quick to reassure him that some of the girls just could be quite loud. Very loud. He had learnt to shut them out eventually, but there were still some nights when he swore some of them seemed intent on trying to outdo each other in the screaming department. He didn't understand what could be so appealing about having a screaming partner in bed, but well, apparently it somehow was for some of the staff members at least, because those women had frequently visitors.
"You got any preferences?" Haku inquired.
The room was slowly emptying out as more and more Omega were led to their new room.
"No." Naruto shrugged and scratched the bridge of his nose. "I only use it to sleep and read, so it doesn't matter to me which room they give me."
"One with a view on the garden would be nice," Karin said wistfully. "Would be a bit romantic."
Haku raised an eyebrow. "You need it to be romantic then?"
She coloured slightly, huffing, and smacked his shoulder. "Of course not! Doesn't mean a girl can't enjoy a good view!"
"Uhuh." Haku was completely unimpressed. "So who's the lucky fella you got your eyes on, hm?"
"Nobody!" Her steadily reddening cheeks weren't exactly helping her denial. "I wasn't aware one had to fancy someone in order to want a decent window view!"
Naruto just snickered as the two of them kept bickering.
Naruto ended up getting a room close to the entrance. In spite of it being quite spacious, a lot of the other Omega apparently hadn't wanted it, deeming the room to be in a too unsuitable place for some reason or another that Naruto couldn't quite discern. He did not care to understand the reasoning either. The bed was nice and there was enough room to stockpile some books that he was reading without having to worry about accidentally walking into the pile.
Even better: the place allowed for Sasuke to sneak into the quarters for a visit without alerting any of the others to his presence.
"How were you able to find me?" Naruto questioned when he recognised the footsteps approaching his bed. The question had been on his mind ever since Sasuke had first visited him in the quarters, but he hadn't had found a moment to ask him until tonight.
As far as he was aware, the layout of the quarters and its inhabitants weren't really known to the royal family. The other Omega all met their visitors of the night in the common room or if the visitor in question frequented them often, they would be told which room belonged to the Omega in question.
Sasuke, however, had never questioned in which room Naruto was spending the nights, yet without fail he had found him both times, even now when the rooms had changed occupants.
"Your scent," Sasuke answered and the mattress dipped when he sat down; his hand finding Naruto's leg in the dark. "It's hard to ignore, you know? It basically guides me to where you are. How else did you think I can find you so often?"
Naruto was surprised; he hadn't thought his scent was that obvious. He tried to discreetly smell himself, but he must have been obvious about it after all, because Sasuke laughed quietly. When he reached out next, he tangled their hands together, caressing the back of Naruto's hand with his thumb.
"Didn't you know that an Omega's scent is really special?" he asked lightly. "Your scent is capable of extinguishing even the greatest of ire; it's so soothing."
"Is that why you hug me so often if you're in a bad mood?" Naruto realised, inhaling sharply. It had been something he'd wondered about.
He had caught Sasuke in a bad mood a couple of times before, often because the council would work on his nerves, but he had never acted out his anger on Naruto. Instead during those moments he would just hug Naruto tightly against him and hold him for a long time until the Omega could practically feel the tension draining out of his body. Afterwards the prince would always be quite relaxed as if Naruto's mere presence helped calm him down completely. He had never known his scent was that soothing.
"Partly," Sasuke said amused. "Partly because I just like holding you and your presence alone already helps me calm down. Your scent does help a lot, though. You never knew?"
Naruto shook his head, remembered that the room was dark and therefore Sasuke couldn't see him and cleared his throat. "No, I didn't. The couple who took me in after my parents died … They never really discussed things like my scent."
They hadn't discussed anything at all until that faithful day when he'd managed to get himself hurt. From being doted on he'd landed straight into hell with Mizuki and his wife assuring that he knew from then on that his only worth was as an Omega who would spread his legs for the highest bidder eventually. That his scent was soothing? There would have been no point in telling him that. It certainly hadn't soothed their ire.
"Well, your scent is quite soothing," Sasuke declared, perhaps sensing the dark mood descending over Naruto when he thought about the couple he'd left behind. "But to me you just smell good in general and it makes it easy to find you. You having changed rooms makes it all a lot easier, though."
"Nobody caught you?"
Naruto shifted to the side when he felt Sasuke moving. The older man laid down next to him, on top of the blanket.
"No, the guards are elsewhere," he murmured and soon Naruto felt fingers running through his hair. "It's not my first time seeing you here, you know?"
"Yes, I know," Naruto hummed and turned on his side, sidling closer to the prince. "I just don't want you to be bothered by the others here. They would lose their mind if they saw you here."
"Don't I know it," Sasuke said chagrined.
Naruto closed his eyes briefly when lips kissed his forehead.
"But it's all good. None of them were in the common room. It's quite late anyway."
"It is?"
"Hm, a bit after midnight." Sasuke paused. "You want me to leave?"
"No, stay," Naruto said immediately, curling his arm around Sasuke's waist. It had been nearly a week since they had last managed to spend some time together and he was loathe to say goodbye already.
"All right, I won't leave," Sasuke said and slipped down lower, resting his hand on Naruto's back, bringing him closer like that. "I missed you," he whispered.
Finally their mouths touched in a soft, but deep kiss and Naruto hummed, crawling even closer into Sasuke's embrace. They were now pressed flush against each other and if Naruto concentrated, he thought he could still taste faint traces of the wine Sasuke had had with his dinner. The slightly bitter taste was easy to ignore however, Sasuke's own natural one overpowering it, and soon Naruto found himself pressed on his back again with Sasuke lying on top of him; the blanket and their clothes the only remaining barrier between them as they exchanged kisses. Hot breath brushed against his skin, slender fingers gripped the edge of the blanket but didn't pull it down while Naruto's own hands lingered on Sasuke's back, feeling strong muscles shift underneath the smooth cloth.
Naruto found that he quite liked his new room if this meant more visits from Sasuke.
"I will have to leave you for now," Sasuke sighed, his hands resting on Naruto's hips. "I have an important meeting to attend."
"Something serious?" Naruto asked worried, letting himself be backed into the wall next to what he had come to consider their window in the library.
Sasuke shook his head. "No, it shouldn't be. I assume it has to do with the fair arriving here within a month, but the gods know what else the council finds to complain about." He rolled his eyes. "Still, it would be remiss of me not to show up and I do not want to give them any more reason to nag at me."
"They nag at you often?" For some reason it amused Naruto to think that the council actually tried to nag the youngest prince about something.
"Sometimes they try," Sasuke snorted. "But fortunately for me, they are far more interested in what father and Itachi have to say. Still, best not to give them more reasons to drag out the meeting. Can I see you tonight?" Dark eyes looked at him imploringly.
"Of course, when have I ever refused you?" Naruto smiled bemused.
Those dark eyes sharpened. "You can if you want to. You know that, right? If you ever are in the mood to not see me, simply say the word. I do not want to push my presence onto you."
"If I ever find myself in such a silly mood, I will be sure to tell you," Naruto quipped, feeling daring enough to slide his hands briefly underneath Sasuke's jacket, making those eyes darken with an interesting glow. "But I cannot think of any day when such a thing might occur, so feel free to visit me tonight."
"I will surely do so," Sasuke murmured and bent his head to capture his mouth in a lingering kiss. "I will see you tonight."
"Yes, tonight," Naruto murmured, his lips tingling as if it were their first kiss all over again.
Sasuke brushed his cheek with the back of his hand, offered him one more smile and strode away then, leaving Naruto to sag against the wall. With each kiss, with each innocent touch, it was becoming harder and harder to keep himself completely under control and he wondered where eventually this would lead them. Until he spontaneously combusted from too much tension?
Snorting at the ridiculous thought, he put his book back onto the shelf – he had not even opened it, it had merely served as decoration until Sasuke had found him and they had spent their time with Sasuke holding him and exchanging kisses – and walked straight into Karin, who was regarding him with an uncharacteristically solemn look.
"Karin, I didn't expect to see you here," he spoke surprised, straightening up from when he'd almost stumbled. "Something the matter?"
Her voice was soft, but nonetheless sounded as loud as a thunderclap when she asked, "Naruto, you and Prince Sasuke … Is there something between you two?"
