“Oh, let me hold the little princess,” Sakura said as Sasuke and Kakashi arrived to meet with her and Naruto for lunch to talk about the upcoming wedding. She stood up and Kakashi passed the seven-month-old to her.
“Hmm,” Kakashi considered. “Many people call Hinata the Hyuuga Princess, but their family is no more noble than the Uchiha. I guess you could call Natsuki the Uchiha Princess. People do call you the ‘Ice Prince’,” Kakashi mused.
Sasuke gave him a little glare.
They all sat down, Sakura next to Naruto and Sasuke across from Sakura with Kakashi next to him.
“So,” Naruto said nervously, “we’ve decided to have the ceremony at the end of March. I already asked Iruka to stand as my father and Kakashi-sensei will be part of the ceremony as Hokage. Well, I wanted you two to be there as my other family. You’re sort of like my brother and sister.”
“Of course, we’re stand as your family, Naruto,” Sakura said.
Sasuke nodded. “I do consider you a brother.”
“Great! Hinata and Hanabi are putting it all together. I’m sure they’ll have a set date soon.”
Their tea arrived and they gave their orders for lunch.
They chatted, mostly about the upcoming wedding. Natsuki was trying to immitted the adults around her by mumbling meaningless sounds. Sakura often looked down at her and encouraged her. That made the baby smile and laugh.
“What about the two of you?” Sakura asked.
Both of the men across from her went wide eyed. “Huh?” Kakashi asked.
“Are you two going to get married?”
“I don’t know if we can,” Sasuke said. “Is that even legal for same sex couples?”
“Well, you’re the Hokage,” Sakura said to Kakashi, “you can make it legal.”
“True, if it’s a Konoha rule. If it’s a law on the books of the Land of Fire, I can’t do anything.”
“I don’t know if I want to get married,” Sasuke said. “We’re together, we have a child, we don’t need a ceremony and a piece of paper to make us a couple.”
Kakashi shrugged. “I agree.”
Sasuke looked at Kakashi. His eyes darted up and down. “But you know, you’d look wonderful in a white suit or kimono.”
“Why would I be the one wearing white?”
“Well, you were the least experienced of the two of us.”
Naruto spewed out his drink. Kakashi chocked on air. Sakura was a little slower on the uptake. Natsuki giggled at the funny noises.
“Who’s the one who—” Kakashi stopped himself from saying Sasuke was the bottom. Sasuke raised an eyebrow at him, challenging him to continue that thought.
“I wear white all the time, you never do,” Sasuke said.
“We don’t need a ceremony for me to wear a white suit. Don’t the Hokage robes count?”
“Absolutely not. They are far too concealing. You look like a pilar or something much more phallic.”
Sakura giggled. Naruto was a little too stunned to laugh. Kakashi responded by putting an arm around his lover and pulling him closer in a little hug.
Natsuki babbled something that almost sounded like words. Sakura focused on her. “Are you trying to speak? Can you say Aunt Sakura? Hmm?” She looked up at Sasuke. “Can she say daddy or anything yet?”
“She called me ‘papa’,” Kakashi said proudly.
“That’s because you’re constantly goading her to say it,” Sasuke said with a little sourness.
“She’s more likely to start calling him by her own name or ‘good girl’ or ‘sleep already.’”
The others laughed.
“We can both be ‘papa’,” Kakashi said. “That might get confusing, but she’s a smart one.”
-----
Kakashi carried Natsuki on their way home. Just to get under his lover skin a little, he was prompting Natsuki to say ‘papa’ again. What she said was more like ‘ah ah’ but it made Kakashi very happy nevertheless.
Sasuke wasn’t really irritated at that. He ran his hand through his hair for another reason. “The wedding. We’re going to have get them gifts.”
“Indeed.” Natsuki was nodding off, so he put her in her sleep swing there in the living room.
“It can be from both of us since we’re a couple.” He considered. “I think it should be something practical.”
“How about a full set of Icha Icha books. For instruction.”
Sasuke gave him an amused glare. “She’s still living with her father right now, no?”
“Yes.”
“Naruto being Naruto he probably doesn’t have a good tea set. I will get them a fine set. A sake set as well.”
“The sake set will feel more like it’s from me,” Kakashi agreed. “And a tea set is very you.”
“Good. I’ll go buy them. You can stay home with Natsuki.”
Kakashi smile. “With pleasure.” It was one of his few days off and he was glad to have some time with his daughter.
-----
The day of Naruto’s wedding.
Kakashi was formally dressed in the Hokage robes to receive his counterparts for the ceremony, and he was helping oversee the preparations. Sasuke was left among the guests. He didn’t gravitate to any of the groups, just stood by himself near one of the cherry trees.
Their nanny, Mao, was looking after Natsuki, so he and Kakashi were free to celebrate with Naruto and Hinata. Natsuki was well behaved, but she was nine months and required a bit more supervision. She was curious and learning to stand and walk. As Shikamaru would say: troublesome.
Lee and Gai were being loud as normal. Mirai was playing with Akamaru with Kiba, Shino, and Kurenai with her. Tamari walked up to Shikamaru and Sasuke almost laughed when Shikamaru took her hand and pulled her aside. Ino was standing with Sai. Choji was drooling over the wedding cake.
Sakura walked up to him. “You look lonely.”
“Well, I see Shikamaru, Ino, and Choji with their true loves and mine is setting up the reception desk. And looking horribly unsexy while doing it in those robes.”
“He’ll be changing for the ceremony, won’t he?”
Sasuke smirked. It was a bit sinister. “Yeah. He looks good in a suit. It’s under the robe.”
Sasuke was dressed in an elegant black kimono with his clan symbol proudly displayed. Kakashi had suggested he wear the same suit he would be wearing, but Sasuke insisted on the kimono.
“It’s your birthday today, isn’t it?” Sasuke asked.
Sakura demurred. “It is.”
“Seems odd that they’d schedule the wedding during a friend’s birthday.”
“I think they forgot. I didn’t mention it. Everyone was just so excited about the wedding.”
“Well, I remembered. Happy birthday.”
“Thank you.”
There was a chime to indicate they were ready to start the ceremony. “Shall I escort you?” Sasuke asked. They were attending the ceremony as Naruto’s family, his siblings. Kakashi would be there as Hokage and family, but it was Iruka who would be there as Naruto’s father. Hiashi, Hanabi, and a few other Hyuuga would be there on Hinata’s side.
He didn’t offer her his arm, but she grabbed it anyway and he escorted her to the venue.
-----
The actual wedding had been boring as all hell. Sasuke was astounded that Naruto could wear a formal kimono and it wasn’t orange. Hinata was absolutely gorgeous. He was very nearly jealous. It made him want a wedding too, just a little bit.
He was relieved when they all joined the reception outside. Food, drinks, entertainment, and he could be with his lover. Kakashi had to greet a few people, but he ushered Sasuke around with him like a proud husband. Some of the Kage were leery of him, but they were civil. Sasuke had let go of all resentments. Or so he told himself. He didn’t feel like attacking anyone, so he felt good about himself.
Naruto and Hinata were the centers of attention. Sasuke’s eyes often sought Naruto out in the crowd, but he was always talking with someone.
“Jealous?” Kakashi asked.
“Huh?”
“He spent years chasing after you, metaphorically and literally, but now his attention isn’t on you.”
“His life stopped revolving around me three years ago.”
Kakashi looked up and rubbed his masked chin. “That’s about when my life started to revolve around you.”
“You’re getting sappy at a wedding.”
Kakashi pulled Sasuke into an overdramatic hug. “Of course, I am. It’s a wedding.”
As much as Kakashi was acting like a larky fool, Sasuke could feel the real affection in his arms.
Once Kakashi let him go, Sasuke said, “I just haven’t been able to speak with him at all. I should have come early and helped him get ready, but Natsuki was being clingy.”
“I’m Hokage, I will butt my way in and make sure we can congratulate him. Even if I have to wear the big hat to do it.”
Sasuke smirked.
-----
Sasuke was less surprised by Sukea’s sudden appearance than he was when he came to the Hokage inauguration. Sukea went around taking pictures of the guests. He finally made his way to Sasuke and Kakashi.
“I thought you weren’t good at portraits,” Sasuke said to him.
“I’ve been getting practice.”
Sasuke and Kakashi posed with serious expressions.
“How about one showing you’re having fun?” Sukea asked.
“I’m not,” Sasuke deadpanned.
Sukea gave an annoyed look. Sasuke smiled and so did Kakashi behind his mask. Sukea took the photo.
Sukea went over to Sakura who was happy to see him and gladly posed for a picture—she made him take four different ones. He said something to her, and she led him toward Naruto and Hinata.
Sasuke was keeping an eye on his lover’s clone. “What are you doing?”
“Hm?” Kakashi acted completely innocent.
Sukea was now taking pictures of the couple then Sakura ran over to Sasuke and Kakashi. “Sukea suggested we all take a picture together. Another one like our team photo. Another with Hinata too.”
Sasuke gave Kakashi a look then followed Sakura. Kakashi put his arms around Sasuke and Naruto while Sakura crouched in front of him a little. Then they took a wider photo with Hinata next to Naruto. They were now two couples. Sakura was the only one without a significant other. Sasuke felt bad for her, but she seemed happy. Maybe she found she didn’t need a man in life to be happy. She had her career and the new mental health hospital for children to keep her busy and fulfilled. He was proud of her.
But now Sasuke was right next to Naruto. “Congratulations,” he said to his best friend.
“Thanks!” As mature as Naruto was dressed and trying to behave today, that was just like the thirteen-year-old him, rubbing the back of his head embarrassedly.
Sasuke turned to Hinata. “You look amazing. I’m almost jealous.”
She blushed.
To Naruto, he said, “Have some kids quickly, will you? Mine will need some Uzumaki playmates.”
That made both of them blush.
Virgins, Sasuke sighed mentally.
Kakashi cut in and gave his own congrats.
As they were doing that, Sukea vanished. He was a clone, so he deposited the camera somewhere before puffing out of existence. Kakashi would pick it up before they went home.
They stayed until the newlyweds left and headed home themselves—stopping to pick up the camera the Sukea clone hid.
Most of the lights were off when they made it home. Mao was sitting in the living room reading.
“How was she?” Sasuke asked her.
“She just fell asleep. She definitely missed you two. I think she tired herself out.”
“Thank you.”
They checked in on Natsuki in her room; she was knocked out. Sasuke cleaned up; too tired to take a full shower. Kakashi took a quick shower. They left the door to Natsuki’s room and their own room open so they could hear anything. They left a nightlight on in the hall just in case Natsuki woke up during the night.
Kakashi put the camera on the dresser; he would get the film developed tomorrow. The pictures Sukea had taken over the years where mostly hanging in their shared home office. They were uncomfortable having pictures of their friends in the same room where they were having sex. But the first three from when Sasuke didn’t know who he was were on their wall. The one of the two of them were their favorite.
Sasuke gave that photo a glance as he fell into bed. Kakashi soon crawled in behind him and put his arm over him. Sasuke was quickly asleep.
Kakashi was just drifting off when he sensed something. Natsuki was awake and starting to fuss. Kakashi unrolled from behind Sasuke and crept to their daughter’s room. She babbled at him, and he picked her up. She grabbed him around the neck in a clumsy hug.
“Ahh, you’re still tired. You just missed us, right?”
She mumbled an incomprehensible response, but it was recognizably a sleepy one. He brought her with him back to his bedroom and placed her behind Sasuke. Sasuke woke up enough to realize what was going on but dropped off as soon as Natsuki got settled.
Kakashi was forced a little from his lover, but he was just as happy to have their baby girl sleeping soundly between them.
Kakashi hadn’t been at all jealous of Naruto and Hinata. He already had his family; he didn’t need a ceremony to make it official.
