A/N: Hey ya’ll! It’s Kuro-kun here like usual. Hehes, welcome back for the next chappie of Unlikely Saviors. I think I may be addicted to writing Naruto stories, but hey I think that’s a healthy one. Hopefully ya’ll are still enjoying the story so far. It’ll be interesting for ya’ll to see what happens this time with what I have planned. Please R&R!
Chapter 3: Flock
Kakashi
“Are we too late?” I asked, noticing in shock the wreckage of the village with no sign of Naruto anywhere.
“Maybe,” shrugged Obito, looking around to assess the damage as well. “Yeah, we probably are… But at least we helped get rid of some of the small fry.”
“True,” I agreed, disturbed by seeing all of this with little to no signature of life remaining except underground. “Perhaps some of the others managed to escape to the passageways underneath the ground.”
“Oh?” Asked my partner with a brow raised, inspecting the ground beneath us. “Where would those be? No one told me about those.”
“heh, I’ll show you,” I smirked before motioning for him to follow me.
Eyeing me reluctantly, Obito eventually followed me. Leading him to trudge through the remains of Konoha I found one of the grate. Unlatching it, I descend down the ladder with the Uchiha following suit behind me. The echoes of our footsteps reverberated throughout the cavern we dropped into. Being on the ground level a few feet below we began to walk. The space is big enough for a few people to walk side by side somewhat comfortably. What we could hear is the pad of footsteps in the near distance. Sharing a look we decided to go after it. When we did we managed to stumble upon other shinobi of the Leaf that had survived.
“Kakashi-sensei?” Asked the voice of a woman I know all too well as one of my former students.
“Sakura,” I greeted warmly upon seeing a familiar face in the abysmal depths of this area. “It’s great to see you. Well, perhaps not in this place, but you know what I mean.”
“Good job,” stated Obito sarcastically. “Couldn’t you have done that better, Hatake?”
Shooting him a sour look I returned my attention towards my former student, “Who else managed to survive?”
“The rest of the Rookie Nine along with Lady Tsunade and Shizune. I’m not sure about the others…. It’s been a hell on earth up there. Fortunately, Tsunade informed me of her plan beforehand and escaped after ensuring we fought enough down here. Those up there probably think we’re dead or something. So, we’re lying down low here until it’s safe to go back up.”

Sasuke
Well, today my brother and I have the dobe. Supposedly this should be a good thing. We would be familiar faces like Deidara and Sasori are. Apparently he’s being skipped this time in place of us. That’s probably a good idea. From what I heard is that Orochimaru wants him after us. That’s understandable knowing a few things about my former sensei. Currently we were taking him to get some food and then we would figure out what to do from there. Some scouts were sent to find any survivors from the attack on the Leaf. That’ what they deserve from what I heard they did.
“There’s some ramen in the cupboards if I recall correctly,” said my older brother to break the silence between us.
“Ok,” is all Naruto said in response, going to go get it before making some while Itachi and I grabbed some coffee from the pot.
He and I shared a look. This isn’t the dobe I know all too well. Did Konoha really treat him so badly? Had I been blind to it all in my pursuit of vengeance? Maybe I had been, but that’s said and done. Nothing can be re-written once it’s occured. besides, now is the time I can make up for lost time. Itachi took note of this as well. Raising a brow, he stowed it away as something to ask the blonde later when we’re in a private setting away from peeping ears. I opened the fridge to grab some dango to hand to my brother as well as bring some for myself. Eating in relative silence we finished our meal. Once that’s done with I gave a silent look towards my brother to take this to his or my room. Nodding, he gently grabbed Naruto’s hand to guide the way. The blonde didn’t protest. Knowing that we would know the layout of the land better than him meant that with us he wouldn’t get lost. While that would be amusing I don’t think we can afford that now. Maybe later we can allow it to happen. Once we’re in Nii-san’s room he closed the door behind us. Setting down in his desk chair, I watched as Naruto stood there awkwardly. Uncertain of where to go he opted to just sit on the floor with his legs crossed underneath him. Itachi sat across from him in the same position.
“What happened to you?” My brother asked him gently, knowing this wouldn’t be a topic he’d readily talk about.
Averting his gaze for a few moments he then responded with, “They never saw me for anything else…. All I was to them had been something to use.”
“I see,” said Itachi quietly although the anger could easily be seen in his eyes. “What else? This is a safe place for you to discuss things with us. Nothing will leave this room unless you want it to.”
“The others will find out eventually, but maybe it’s best for them not to know yet,” suggested the blonde, causing us both to nod in agreement.
“Now, go on, dobe,” I urged him, moving off of the chair to sit next to him. “I want to know everything those bastards did to you.”
Stiffening slightly, he shivered before continuing as he relaxed against me, “The rest of the Rookie Nine were the only people aside from the sensei’s that treated me like everyone else. They felt like a family in a sense. But it hadn’t been meant to last.”
“Why?” Questioned Itachi curiously.
“Sooner or later they just ended up the same. They just knew how to hide it well from me. Why do people fake being friends or loving you?” Asked Naruto somberly, holding back tears pricking at the corners of his eyes although he wouldn’t dare allow them to fall even around us.
“Some people are like that,” noted Itachi with his tone remaining gentle as if he’s in front of an injured animal that could bolt if he made the wrong move. “We’re not like them. You know that, right?”
“Yeah, I do,” confirmed Naruto, giving a faint ghost of a smile before looking down again. “I don’t want that to happen again with people being that way.”
“You then have to figure out for yourself who’s a real friend or lover compared to the fake ones,” I told him, wrapping an arm around him to have him rest his head on my shoulder that started to feel damp although it didn’t bother me in the slightest.
Did I always harbor these feelings for him? Surely that can’t be true…. No, it most certainly is. There’s this surge of wanting to protect him. That feeling had been thought to be stowed away where it wouldn’t resurface again. Yet, here I am with this blonde I had grown up with. We were teammates and now we’re this. It’s funny how things happen in life without expecting it. Somehow things worked out for the best in the end.
“What we can assure you of is you’re safe here even though it’s by unlikely saviors.”
A/N: Yays! Done with chappie three! hehes, this story is turning out to be rather fun although that tends to happen no matter what I write. Hehes, anyways, next time it’ll be Orochimaru and then Sasori with Naruto. I figured I might as well do more than one person and it can spread over into two days including scenes underground with the survivors as well. So, we’ll see what happens. The next chappie will be out soon whenever it’s finished. Until then please remember to review darlings!
