Iruka groans and grumbles. Today is not going well. The night didn’t went well and now everything he touches seems to drop to the floor without him knowing why. And it also doesn’t help that almost every Shinobi of Konoha is gathered in the Mission Room. There aren’t enough missions for them, but they don’t seem to care about that. And it doesn’t matter to them that it is almost five o’clock. They are gossiping.
Iruka sighs and drops his head to his desk. They are gossiping about two of the most powerful and dangerous men. Hatake Kakashi and Morino Ibiki.
“Did you hear? I heard that the Copy nin didn’t slept in his own bed last night.”
“Which fool checked that?”
“His rival, Gai, checked that.”
“And Anko saw the two of them leave Ibiki’s place.”
Iruka frowns and rolls his eyes. None of the Shinobi present, save for himself, are actually doing what they should be doing. It irritates him and he wants to ball his fist and yell at them. But… he better not do that. He already dropped his cup of coffee onto the floor. And he tripped over his own feet when he got out of bed. And his lunch somehow disappeared without him knowing where it went. Not a good example for a Shinobi of Konoha.
He sighs and gets up, slowly, gathering stacks of papers and clutching them together. No matter what, he has to do his duty and his job. He walks away from his desk, noticing the silence that is going on all of the sudden. He looks around, frown on his face and confusion written in his eyes and coming into contact with something in front of him.
It is just not his day.
He drops the papers, with his arms flailing and at the mean time cursing in his head. Not out loud, not after they laughed at him the last time. He sighs and look up, ready to apologize to the person he walked into.
It is Morino Ibiki.
The man looks like he is enjoying himself immensely. Or, at least like he is in a good mood. It kind of lifts Iruka’s spirit, seeing the smile on that man’s face. But he dropped his papers and his smile falters.
“Apologies,” he says, with a nod, and he sinks through his knees.
Ibiki does the same, hands reaching out to gather the papers and collecting them. “Here,” Ibiki says. The papers are roughly shoved into Iruka’s hands. The gesture feels tender and rough at the same time.
Iruka blinks, stares at the papers in his hands and nods. “Thank you, Morino-sama.” It is better to stay polite, right? What else to say to the man who just helped you. And did more for you than all the other Shinobi present in the room.
Ibiki laughs. “Thank you, Iruka-sensei.” There is another smile on his lips. He stretches his body and stands straight.
“Maah, dropping papers already?”
Iruka freezes and looks up. Hatake Kakashi stands behind him. One hand on his hip and the other stretched out in front of him. Like he wants to help Iruka get up. Iruka blinks and grabs that hand, letting himself be pulled up by the famous Copy nin. He nods his head once as to say thanks.
Kakashi closes his visible eye and nods as well. “It is kind of irritating when you are the only one in the building actually doing his job, isn’t?” He opens his eye and glances around in the room. “I mean, there are several Shinobi here present, but you seem to be the only one working.” He cocks his head.
The crowd of Shinobi, all acting like they aren’t listening, shudders and takes one step back. All of them. Even the Hokage, who is among them.
Kakashi chuckles and turns his attention back towards Iruka. He looks at him for a moment, then glances towards Ibiki. “Say, sensei, do you want to head out for dinner after work?” He cocks his head.
Iruka blinks and averts his eyes from Kakashi, to Ibiki and back at Kakashi again. The man is asking him for dinner. After helping him and reprimanding the other Shinobi. Iruka blinks again and glances at Ibiki. Weren’t those two seen together? There is a strange vibe hanging in the air. He suppresses a shudder, takes a deep breath and opens his mouth to speak.
“My treat,” Ibiki says. His voice is low and it feels like there is a threat in there somehow if one were to say no. Iruka feels obliged to say yes. But he lost his voice and is still thinking, unable to speak.
“Of course.” Kakashi crosses his arms and nods.
Iruka clutches the stack of papers close to his body and bites his lips. He has no idea what the men are talking about. Is he invited or not? Is this something between Kakashi and Ibiki? Is he involved and if so, since when?
“Well, what is your answer, Iruka-sensei?” Kakashi asks. He leans down a bit. His masked face is right in front of Iruka. If he weren’t wearing a mask, his breath would certainly hit Iruka’s nose. they are close enough to be kissing.
Iruka swallows. “I have to work until seven,” he whispers. That is right. Seven. He almost forgot. Perhaps that is too late for both men. It still takes two hours. That is his way out without hurting anybody’s feelings. It is a good save.
“I made a mistake in the schedule,” Tsunade-sama yells. “You can leave at five.”
Iruka flinches and widens his eyes. What is going on today? His eyes shifts towards the clock. It is five. He can’t use any excuse now.
“Well, drop those papers onto your desk again and lets head out.” Kakashi reaches out, grabs the papers and turns around, in one fluid motion. He drops the papers and points at Genma. “Take care of those.”
Genma nods and smirks. “I will take care of those like you will take care of him.” He winks.
Kakashi drops his arm. “Perhaps I should take care of you first.” His voice is low. Dangerously low. “I know how to work with a senbon.”
Genma’s eyes widen and he nods. “Gomen, gomen.” He nods again and walks towards the desk, hands up high. “I’ll take care of the papers.” He smiles and nods. “You take care of your men.”
Kakashi snorts and turns around. “Let’s go.” He waves at the other Shinobi present and walks out of the room.
Iruka follows him and Ibiki, feeling a bit dazed.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ibiki stares at Kakashi. Yesterday, the man asked him out for something to eat, treated him to some food and came home with him. And then they had a good physical activity and went to bed, sleeping soundly.
Today, he had a good day. Not a lot of annoying colleagues. The prisoners were really easy and spilling everything they knew before he even had the chance to ask anything. Only thing that went on was the incident with Iruka. The man dropped his papers and he helped him pick them up.
Suddenly Kakashi was standing there. Asking the teacher out for dinner.
Ibiki narrows his eyes and stares at the teacher. The man is sitting in front of him, next to Kakashi. He is eating the same mushroom dish he had yesterday. It is a good dish, and judging from the look on Iruka’s face the teacher thinks the same.
Ibiki glances at Kakashi, who is done eating and is staring at him. What was the man thinking? Inviting the teacher over for dinner. Is that his way of getting what he wants? And if so, what does he want?
Ibiki frowns and turns his attention back to his own plate. Perhaps he was not good enough and Kakashi wants more. Something more delicate. He snorts. Iruka is not like himself. Iruka is delicate in comparison. He is far from it. He sighs through his nose and swallows the last piece of his food.
“It was your treat, right?” Kakashi asks. He has his visible eye closed and his head is turned to one side.
Ibiki grunts and nods. He sticks to his promises.
“Well, perhaps somebody else would be so kind to provide some coffee.” Kakashi opens his eyes and turns his gaze towards the teacher.
Iruka is blissfully smiling and wiping his mouth with the napkin. He nods with his eyes closed. “You can get some at my place,” he says. He places the napkin onto the table and opens his eyes. A blush forms on his cheeks as Kakashi stares at him.
Ibiki’s chest heats up. “No,” he says. He doesn’t want to sleep at Iruka’s. He shakes his head and gestures for the waiter to come and collect the money. If they add another person to this, he wants to sleep in his own bed.
Kakashi looks up. “No?” he asks. He cocks his head and narrows his one, visible eye.
Ibiki smirks and takes a sip of his drink. “No. Drinking coffee is not good for my sleeping pattern.” He places his cup down, hands the waiter his money and turns his attention towards Iruka again. “So, no thanks, Iruka-sensei.”
Kakashi narrows his visible eye. “Well, perhaps Iruka has something else to drink for you.”
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Iruka swallows thickly and stares at the two men in front of him. It looks like there is an argue going on. About drinks. And sleeping. An argue in which he doesn’t partake.
He blinks. Sleeping. The rumors. Kakashi and Ibiki had dinner and then went towards Ibiki’s place and… they didn’t come out until the next morning.
They slept together.
Iruka’s eyes widen. This was not just a simple invitation for dinner. His cheeks heath up even more and his bites his lip. It is an invitation for more. And Ibiki probably is pissed because he realized that Iruka wasn’t realizing the true purpose of the invitation.
“I can always bring something else to your place, Morino-sama,” Iruka says. “Do you prefer sake?” He swallows again and glances at the Head of Interrogation. Somehow he doesn’t want to mess this invitation up.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sake? It is a Friday night and he could drink. But why is the teacher offering to bring something to his place? Ibiki frowns and looks at the teacher.
He is blushing. A lot. And from the looks of it, he is shifting in his seat, feeling uneasy under Ibiki’s gaze .
Kakashi is far from feeling that. The man looks smug and smirks underneath his mask. “Is that what you want, Morino-sama?” he asks. The last words, his name and title, are spoken in a mocking matter.
Ibiki narrows his eyes. “I am more a man of something hot,” he says. “And one drink is not enough.” That will teach Kakashi to think he can get rid of him easily. He is the Head of Interrogation after all. Not a man to be messed with.
Kakashi widens his eye. There is a red tinge just about the edge of his mask. He swallows and turns his gaze away for just a second.
Iruka gasps.
Kakashi shakes his head, narrows his eye and nods. “I will bring you some hot coco,” he mutters.
Iruka chuckles and nods. “Sake and Coco. Good combination.” He laughs a bit and stretches his body.
Kakashi leans down. “Still your place, Morino-sama?” He stares intensely with his one eye.
Ibiki snorts. “Yes.” He gets up fro his chair.
