A New Season
The tall canopy of leaves provided a wonderfully cool shade about Kankuro’s head. He refocused his chakra into his feet now that he no longer needed to regulate his body temperature. Konoha’s gates were only about 2 miles away. Picking up speed, he knew it should only take a couple of minutes now.Meanwhile Naruto was fidgeting in an uncomfortable restaurant booth waiting for the Hyuuga heiress to arrive. In his haste, he arrived an hour early and had spent most of his time fidgeting with his hair and talking to Kurama.-=I like her, Naruto. She has always been kind to you.=-‘I know! Remember how I thought she was weird?’-=I honestly don’t, kid. You shut me out a lot back then.=-‘Ehhh, sorry about that. We haven’t really gotten to know each other over the years, have we’-=I was never curious before.=-‘Hmmmm, hey Kurama? What is your favorite color?’Naruto was met with thoughtful silence for the next minute.
-=It used to be red.=- That made sense.‘Well, what it is now?’-=Blue… the color of your chakra…=-‘Ahh, really?’-=You are my first good friend, Naruto. They kept the tailed beasts separated for a long, long time.=-‘That is sad… but we can start making more friends.’-=We?=-‘Yes, we. I don’t have many either.’-=Hnnng? Kit the entire world loves you right now… Ahh here she comes.=-Hinata walked into the dimly lit restaurant with a light blush on her cheeks. Upon returning to Konoha, Ten Ten was determined to honor the memory of Neji by becoming closer with Hinata. They spent some time “bonding” with each other. As a result, Hinata ended up purchasing a lot of dresses that Ten Ten forced onto her. The one she was wearing at the moment, the most flattering she could pick up.It was simple. It was a light cream color, perhaps a shade lighter than her pale skin. Its sleeves hugged her arms and came to an end mid forearm. A scoop neck revealed the silky white skin of her chest. The fabric clung to her tightly, revealing a slim figure with supple breasts. The airy skirt came down just past her knees. It fluttered about with every step she took.Naruto could only pick his jaw up off the floor before waving at her to join him at her table. He pulled a seat out for her to sit on. Naruto himself had opted for black slacks and a pullover. The sheer vision of her was making him hot around the collar. He took a seat across the table from her and smiled nervously at her.“So… where to we start?”-=You can start by trying to find out what she looks like beneath that dress. Ah-woooooo!=-‘Shut up, Kurama. Just…. Shut up.’Hinata reached forward to caress his hand across the table.‘Oh Kami, how am I going to be able to get through this without jumping her?’-=My name isn’t Kami, but I like the sound of it.=-‘Shut up!’‘One house down, 50 ish more to go…’ Sasuke straightened up, pained shot through his back like lightening bolts.
‘Ugh, this is going to br a long project…’Sasuke had begun the project of restoring the long since abandoned Uchiha district. He still didn’t know what he was going to do with it. But whether he decided to raise the future of his clan there, or sell everything off, things still needed to be tidied up.‘I should probably see Sakura. She can do something about my back. Maybe I should hire some cleaners to do some of the bigger projects…’Sasuke stepped out of the house, stretching in the soft sunlight and stretching just enough for his belly button to be exposed underneath his shirt. A delicious smell wafted up to his nose. He looked to his left. A basket of baked goods was left at the front doorway. A note left inside.Thank you for your sacrifice and hard work, Uchiha Sasuke. The Village is deeply indebted to you.
“Hey, Kakashi!” Sasuke called up to the ninja on the roof.
“Yo!”“Did you see who left this basket?”“Aah, some cute genin kid. Her mom baked them for you. Smells good.”Pakkun and dog-nin crew appeared from nowhere.“Yeah it does! We are done clearing all the gutters. Can we have some of the mackerel croquettes?”Sasuke nodded tossing each dog their own treat. There were dozens to choose from, and salmon were Sasuke’s favorite.“Kakashi, you want a tuna croquette?” His former sensei nodded, so he tossed one up towards the roof.“I think it is time to call it quits! I need to go see Sakura about my back. Thank you for the help.”Kakashi nodded before jumping off the roof and fishing another tuna croquette out of the basket before leaving with his dog pack. Sasuke slipped shoes on and began to make his way towards the medical district, salmon croquettes in hand.Kankuro touched down just in front of the ANBU checkpoint to come face to face with a rhino mask.“Moss on the stone?”“Always grows facing north,” Kankuro answered. The two nodded at each other before the rhino instructed the deer to page Haruno Sakura to duty assignment.
Sasuke wander the halls of the hospital in search Sakura for about 15 minutes before Ino informed him that Sakura had just left to meet the Hokage in the assignment room. Rushing to the Hokage tower next door, he managed to catch a bit of the conversation inside the duty room.
Over the desk, Tsunade hunched in thought. “So both Suna and Lightning country are seeking the medical advisement and expertise of Konoha?”“Yes,” Kankuro answered. “Konoha’s medical shinobi out number all the other countries combined, regrettably. All the other countries are also lacking skill set that Konoha has in their medical field. I would be remiss for us to deny this. We are now seeking your help.”“Sakura, what do you think of this?” Tsunade asked to young kunoichi standing in front of her.The young woman’s mind was obviously reeling. She knew that the only reason that she was here was because Tsunade was considering putting Sakura on this assignment. Did she want to leave Konoha, the only home she had ever known? Well… maybe. There currently was nothing for her here. Love was certainly not holding her back. They didn’t necessarily need her at the hospital with someone as skilled as Tsunade holding the reins. This could be a way for Sakura to get better. Stronger. A way for her to become the best in the field.“I think that it would be wise if there was a skill that Konoha could enhance as well. For example, Kankuro, you are currently the Master puppeteer of Suna. Konoha has not skilled or trained puppeteers. I imagine that chakra string manipulation can become quite handy among Konoha shinobi.”Tsunade shook her head, “No, no, no. There has to be some sort of equal trade here. A balancing trade, so to speak. Our shinobi are already effective and precise killers. What Kankuro is asking for is much more valuable than what he can offer us.”“I’d hate to say it, but I agree with Tsunade. Suna and Lightning country are suffering right now. Konoha is not.” Kankuro leaned against his puppet for support. “Suna is rich in resources. We would pay handsomely for Sakura to come and train our medical crew for a year.”‘A whole year? Am I ready for that?’ Sakura shook her head to clear her mind of all doubt. She was Konoha’s best candidate. If she couldn’t compete with Naruto and Sasuke in their fields, then she would become the best in her own.“What about knowledge? Suna probably has a very unique approach in the medical field that Konoha has yet to tap. The life transference jutsu for example. What if Konoha was offered assess to Suna’s scrolls to further both countries research?”Tsunade looked very intrigued. “Now that… that sounds interesting. I offer you those terms, Kankuro. If your village accepts, I will send Haruno Sakura to begin training.”“Yes, Tsunade-sama. I will be back in 3 days with the decision.”“Shizune!” The Hokage barked, “Be prepared to make an offer to Lightning Country with the same stipulations!”“Yes, Hokage-sama!”Just before Kankuro exited the room, Sakura called out softly after him. “Kan…-Kankuro.”He turned, quirking an eye out. He didn’t think that Haruno would stammer when addressing him.“If your village doesn’t accept these terms, you can tell your council doesn’t need to come back with a counter. I won’t be going.” Tsunade smirked at Sakura’s gumption.“Alright then. I may… or may not see you in 3 days.” Kankuro exited the room. For a moment Tsunade exchanged an approving look with Sakura, before the young woman excused herself. It was starting to get dark. Outside the door, she ran directly into Sasuke who stumbled back a few steps.“What are you doing here?!”“Oh, looking for you. My back. It’s a bit stiff and I was wondering if you could look at it,”“Oh… ok. Follow me to an examination room.”The walk over to the hospital was both short and awkward. The hospital was literally right next door, but the 3 minutes that it took to get there were in complete silence.“Alright. I need you to remove your clothes and put this gown on. I’ll give you a moment of privacy.”Sakura left to get blank x-ray sheets and came back.“Alright. Please stand here and put your heels on the marks taped on the floor.”Sakura ducked behind the wall and put a lead vest on. As the X-rays developed, she performed a routine check of all of Sasuke’s vitals.“Alright. Your x-rays show that your spin is out of alignment. You need weekly adjustments and electro-shock therapy. Be glad that it isn’t any worse. I’m surprised it isn’t. I’ll do your first alignment, but I’ll have to assign you to Ino next week.”“Because you are leaving?” Sakura who had been handling the electronic panels for shock therapy paused.“You heard?”“I heard enough. Why are you even considering this?” Sakura shrugged.“Sasuke, what is there in Konoha for me?”Sasuke nodded. He knew what it was like to see better opportunities outside these borders. If he were her, he would leave too.“I’m sorry. For everything.” For some reason the only way Sasuke could bear to say it was by staring at his knees.“I know.” The two were silent for a moment.“Alright, so electric shock therapy. Do you want me to shock you or do you want to use your electric chakra to shock yourself?” she asked with a grin.“You do it. I trust you better with this stuff more than I trust myself…”Sakura internally sighed. ‘At least that’s a start.’While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
