THIRD PERSON POV.
“So . . . Itachi. . . . You seemed to be pretty chummy with him.”
Sasuke twitched, but didn’t move. Listened. Is she a traitor? He wondered.
“I know the truth about what he’s done.”
“From what I heard, Danzo is responsible for the massacre. What happened?”
He heard Starlight sigh. “Itachi did what he did . . . to protect Sasuke.”
“How was he protecting him?”
“Danzo was planning to annihilate the Uchiha Clan. Itachi knew that. He also knew that if he didn’t do it, Danzo would have killed everyone. Sasuke is the one person Itachi has ever cared about. He could deal with the rest of the Clan being killed, but he didn’t want Sasuke to go down with it. Plus, he knew if even one Uchiha survived, the chances of the Clan coming back were good. If Itachi hadn’t done it, every Uchiha would’ve died. Danzo would’ve made sure of it.”
“So in order to keep Sasuke and the Clan alive, he did it . . . and made sure Sasuke lived.”
“Not only that, but he taunted Sasuke. He made him hate him because he knew that hatred, that desire to avenge his Clan, to kill Itachi, would make him powerful. If he becomes powerful enough, then Danzo wouldn’t have a chance in hell killing him and Sasuke would be able to take the vengeance that he so desires.”
“Itachi . . . he’s not the bad guy everyone thinks he is.”
“No, he’s not. He did what he did to save Sasuke, his own Clan and the Leaf Village. If the Uchiha Clan hadn’t been destroyed by Danzo, there was a war that was sure to happen. So Itachi killed them to save everything. He took on the hatred of the one person who meant anything to him just to keep him safe.”
Sasuke froze, mind working hard. Itachi . . . cares . . . about me? No. She has to be wrong. There’s no way . . . but what if she’s right? Who is this Danzo that they’re talking about?
“Sasuke can’t know yet. He’s not mature enough to handle this information. If he finds out what Danzo did, he’ll take vengeance on the Leaf Village and the Leaf Village didn’t have anything to do with it. The Leaf Village didn’t even know. Danzo is completely responsible for what happened to the Uchiha Clan. He is the only person Sasuke should take his vengeance against. Not Itachi. Not the Leaf Village. Just Danzo.”
“I knew Danzo was diabolical, but I never dreamt he would do anything like that. Destroying a whole Clan.”
Not mature enough, eh? I seem to be handling it well now.
“There’s another reason Sasuke mustn’t know.”
“What is that?”
“There’s something . . . something he has to do before he tries to take his vengeance. Before he even knows anything about Danzo.”
“What is it?”
“I can’t say, but it is important that he does it.”
“Being from the future is useful, isn’t it?
Future? “Yes, that it is. If I was in my right time period right now, I’d be twelve years old and wouldn’t know a damn thing about what’s going to happen or how it’s going to happen. After all, my birthday isn’t until October 31.”
“That’s right. You’d be on my team right now instead of having fought beside me and the Fourth Hokage and Lady Tsunade in wars. You wouldn’t be old enough to have been in those wars.”
Wait . . . Starlight’s from the future? That could explain a lot about her.
“So will you travel through time again, or will you wait out the two years here?”
“I might wait out the two years. I don’t know.”
“Hm. Will you age if you stay in one time period for two years?”
“No.”
“So you’ll remain nineteen for . . . how long?”
“I don’t know. Maybe when I returned to my true time, I’ll start aging again. If not, then it seems as though Squad 7 will age past me. I’ll get to watch Naruto become an old man and I’ll still be nineteen.”
So . . . Starlight doesn’t age at all. She’s from the future, doesn’t age. One day, I’ll be older than she is.
“I heard you tell Itachi that Sasuke’s power will be greater than yours one day.”
“Yeah. He becomes the most powerful Ninja in history and Naruto isn’t far behind. He becomes Hokage.”
Naruto? Hokage?
“He will be more powerful than his father.”
“He’ll surpass the Fourth Hokage?”
“Yes. He’ll make his father proud.” A pause. “Kakashi, wake them up. There’s something that we need to tell them.”
“What is that?” A few minutes of silence. “So the Chuunin Exams. . . .”
“Will be ten times more dangerous than ever before.”
“We should tell the Hokage.”
“No. If we do, he won’t hold the Chuunin Exams. That can’t happen, but we can prepare Squad 7 for it.”
“Okay.” Movement. “Time to get up!” he yelled. “Hey! Wake up! Wake up now!”
Sasuke was the first one out. Sakura and Naruto were slower to get out. “What’s wrong, Sensei?” Sakura asked.
“It’s time to start training.”
“It’s dark out! We just went to sleep!” Naruto complained.
MY POV
I stood. “Naruto, Sasuke, I want to see the new Jutsu you’ve learnt. At the same time.” They instantly started the handsigns and perfect clones stood beside them. I walked up to Sasuke’s clone. “I’m going to test the strength of them.”
“W-what are you going to do?” Naruto asked, eyes wide.
“Don’t worry, you won’t feel it.” I pulled my fist back and shoved it quickly into the clone’s stomach. My fist went through its stomach. I pulled away. “Shouldn’t have hit so hard.” I backed away and moved to Naruto.
“M-make sure you hit the clone!” Naruto gasped, backing away.
“H-he’s the clone!” the clone said. “Hit him!”
“Hey, you lousy traitor!”
“Don’t worry, Naruto. I know which one was the clone.” Instead of punching, I kicked the clone. My leg went straight through it. “Damn, I need to watch my strength.” I backed away. The clones disappeared.
Naruto’s eyes were huge and Sasuke’s eyes were locked on me, slightly narrowed. Sakura was pale and backing away.
“Just think, boys. Shadow Clones take damage the same way your own body would. If Starlight punched you, the same thing would happen,” Kakashi said, pulling out his book.
“No way! Nobody’s strong enough to punch through someone!” Sakura yelled, staring at me.
“Shadow Clones are just like real people,” Sasuke said. “Just like you and Naruto and me. If she can do that to a Shadow Clone of me and Naruto, she can do that to us.”
“R-really?” Naruto’s eyes got even bigger and he stepped backward. “If you’re that strong, why aren’t you Hokage?”
“I don’t want to be. I’m more of a Nomad than anything. I’m not in the village long enough to be Hokage and I couldn’t stay in the village long enough. I need to be able to travel.”
“Oh.” He looked down. “So when will you leave again?”
“When my job is finished. First off,” I dug into my bag, grabbed the scroll and tossed it at Sakura. “That’s for you.” There was a pink orb around her throat. “I see you got the amulet I gave you.”
She cupped it in her hands. “Y-you gave it me?”
“I gave one to each of you. I told Sasuke to pass them out.”
“O-oh . . . I-I thought Sasuke. . . .”
“Didn’t strike you as odd that all three of us have the same amulet?” Sasuke demanded. “I told you it wasn’t from me.”
“B-but . . . I hoped. . . .”
“Forget the necklace. The scroll. I want you to start practicing it. You’re going to learn to heal.”
“H-heal? I can’t heal.”
“Out of the entire team, you’re the only one who can learn. Naruto and Sasuke can’t learn to heal. They’re too . . . brutish. You’re more refined. You want to be a Ninja, but you’re not a fighter. The best way you can be useful to the team is to learn to heal.” I shrugged. “There are three reasons for you to be a healer.”
“What are they?”
“Reason one: Sasuke and Naruto are fighters. They’re always starting some kind of fight, in some kind of trouble. Learn to heal, it’ll keep them alive much long. Reason two: You’d be a very good healer. Reason three: You learn to heal, Sakura, it’ll increase your power. If you learn to heal, you’ll be able to learn to control your Chakra very well. Learn to control your Chakra, you’ll be able to do anything with your power that you want. Even increase your physical strength enough to be able to punch through people if you learn to do it well.”
She looked down at the scroll, thoughtful. After a minute, she said, “Yea, you’re right. There needs to be a healer on this team. I can be the healer.”
“Great.” Kakashi, I’m going to take Sasuke tomorrow and train him. You can take Naruto and train him. One-on-one training.
Good. We’ll get them stronger in no time.
“Sasuke,” he looked up, “you’re with me tomorrow. Physical training. One-on-one. Think you can handle it?”
“Yes.”
“Naruto, you’re with me,” Kakashi said.
“What kind of training?”
“You’ll find out.”
“What about me?” Sakura asked.
I hesitated. The day after tomorrow for Sakura?
Maybe you can train her after you train Sasuke. You’re the only one that can heal. I can’t heal. Train Sasuke for half the day, then Sakura for the other half. Have her study the scroll until you’re finished with Sasuke.
“Sakura, you’re with me tomorrow. I know how to heal, so I can teach you. Sasuke, after I’m finished with you, you’re going with Kakashi and Naruto and Kakashi will supervise a sparring session between the two of you.” I shot a glance at Kakashi and he nodded. “For the first half of the day, Sasuke is with me. While I’m training Sasuke, Sakura, you study that scroll. Find out what you can about it. Then once I’m finished with him, I’ll push you damn near to your breaking point. You’ll be a class-A Medic Ninja in no time.”
“Starlight,” Sasuke said after a minute, “are you going to uphold your promise? I mastered the Jutsu, passed out the amulets.”
I met his eyes for a minute, then stood. “Come on. I’ll tell you what I can.”
He stood and followed me a few meters from the campsite.
“I can’t tell you much, Sasuke, you understand that, right?”
He gave a small nod. There was a strange gleam in his eyes. “I understand.”
“All I can tell you is that Itachi cares about you. He loves you. You’re the only person in the world Itachi cares about and he did what he did to protect you.” I hesitated. “And I can tell you . . . that there are things you need to do before you try to take vengeance on anyone.”
“What are these ‘things’?” This sounded like a loaded question.
“I can’t tell you everything. All I can say is that there’s a choice you have to make and there’s only one right choice. You’ll know it when you come to it. You have to know that the choice you have to make is nobody’s choice but yours. Don’t let someone try to talk you out of it.”
“Not even you?”
“I won’t be trying to talk you out of it.” I started back toward camp. “Is that all?”
He walked alongside of me, silent. He sat back in his spot and I sat back on the log.
“Now . . . I think the three of you should get some rest. For next few weeks, you will be trained especially hard. Sleep.”
“Where will you sleep?” Naruto asked.
“Out here.”
“One of my students can give up their tent for you.”
“I’m fine. It’s not like it’s the first time I’ve slept outside. Besides, the students will need their strength for tomorrow. And if I get too tired, you know I’ll be able to fix that with a few drinks.” I smirked. “After all . . . I can revive my strength really fast.”
“Ah, yes. Hm. I suppose that if you get tired, you can just find someone to drink from.”
“Or I can borrow someone’s energy. Either way, I’m set. Go on. Get some sleep. All four of you.”
