The whole situation gave him a migraine. Tsunade, having sent her apprentice/clerk/medic on a long term mission, had needed someone to come in and "help" with her paperwork. He had not fully realized what Sakura had put up with during her training with the Fifth until then. The Fifth had summoned him under the guise of needing his skills for an important mission. When he arrived she'd pointed to Shizune's small desk, which was completely covered in scrolls. He'd raised his eye brow, and asked what he was supposed to do with it.
"Read them, and then put them where they belong," she'd told him, from her position behind her desk. "I have a meeting with the elders and need that taken care of before I get back. Which would be in ten minutes if I had my way, she muttered the last part, standing and walking past him to the door. Good luck!" He could only tilt his head to the side after her. He stood there, head cocked to the side staring at the door with his brow knit together until Shizune came and told him he might as well get to work. So he had. It had taken him hours, but he finally found himself at the bottom of the pile. He eyes hurt, mostly because he'd not been wearing his glasses, since he'd not thought to bring them with him since he had not thought he would end up being a clerk for the Hokage. He sighed leaning back in Shizune's chair. He pinched the bridge of his noise, squinting his eyes. The headache was giving him a sensitivity to light, even the lamps, which had been turned down as low as he could get them without ending up in the dark. It was annoying. He hated being in pain, but he needed to get it done, so he read the last scroll. A requisition request. He rolled his eyes and set it in the box designated for approval from the Hokage. Finally, he thought. He leaned back in the chair once more, relieved and tired. His head was throbbing, so he closed his eyes. He hadn't realized he'd fell asleep, until she was waking him. "Sai," a soft, familiar voice was whispering. "Sai, you need to wake up." "Five more minutes," he muttered. "No, Sai. You have to get up now. You’re causing your spine serious harm. Wake up before I make you." His eyes snapped open. Tsunade. He knew that she would do something awful to wake him up. He sat up; rubbing his face, then winced when he felt a sting in his neck. She was right. Sleeping with his neck against the back of a chair was not a good idea. "Good job, Sai," the Fifth smiled at him. "Come here and I'll take care of the crick you've given yourself." "Please tell me that's not my only compensation," he muttered. Walking to her and turning to face the door when he got there. "No," he could hear the smirk in her voice. "I've made a deposit in your account. B- Rank pay. Three days’ worth." She'd pushed chakra into his muscles and was rubbing her hands along his neck. "Tsk, you've been reading without your glasses, again haven't you?" "I didn't bring them. I didn't know I would be reading all day." "You could have gone and gotten them. You didn't need to hurt yourself to get this done Sai." She pushed chakra through his temples, and the migraine was gone in an instant. He sighed in relief. "There you go, all done. Take tomorrow off. And next time, bring your glasses, just in case." He nodded and made his way home. Bed. Sleep was sounding very, very appealing to him. Hopefully, he thought, there would not be a horny girl in his apartment when he got there. Miraculously, there wasn't. He was pleased. I had enjoyed having sex with her, but he wasn't feeling well and would not be able to perform in the way he had the last time. He was asleep as soon as his head hit his pillow. He hadn't even bothered to take off his gear or shoes. For the first time in days, he didn't have dreams swirled with pink and viridian, just a sea of black, inky, velvety nothingness. But then he heard it; a girly giggle. He groaned, not what he needed to hear while sleeping. He heard it again and felt something, soft and warm move over his bare foot. BARE FOOT...he did not remember taking off his shoes. His eyes snapped open and he flipped over and leaned up on his elbows. She giggled again. He glared at her. "What the hell, Ugly?" he all but shouted at her. From what he could tell, from the sun hitting him in the face, it was about ten in the morning. Though he'd slept a little late it was no excuse for what she was doing. "I told you," she said, crawling on her hands and knees up his bed," that I would come see you when I got back." "And you had to wake me up, why?" "Oh, I didn't have to, but I figured you would appreciate being awake for what I want to do to you." Groaning he fell back on the bed. "Not today. Please. I am not feeling well." "Ah, poor ba-by," he could hear the pout in her voice. She was tugging on his pants. "I said no. No means no, Ugly," he growled. "I heard you," she said. "You've got a bruise on your hip from your holster. I'm trying to take your gear off, not your clothes, not at the moment any way." Sai sighed haughtily. "Fine." He sat up and removed his back pack setting it on the floor. As he did that she removed the holster. She turned to him and smiled, "There was that really that bad?" "Hn," he replied, lying back down and closing his eyes, he'd gotten up too fast and now had a headache once more. "Kami, what is it with the men in this town? Are you all told to only reply to genuine concern with a noise? Honestly, it's really starting to annoy me." She started puttering around his apartment. He could only guess that she was attempting to clean up after him, which was probably easier said than done, he was hardly home, so there wasn't much to do. "If you're really in a mood for cleaning, why don't you go see Naruto? His apartment is a sty." "I'd be there all year," she chuckled. "Are you trying to tell me to leave?" Yes. “No, of course not," he sighed. "Just make sure I can find all my brushes and try to keep it down." She must have done as asked because after that he couldn't hear her anymore. A few hours later, he awoke to something that smelt delicious, his stomach grumbled and he figured it was probably time to be out of bed. Curiosity peaked; he got off his futon and went to his seldom used kitchen. She was standing at the stove. , stirring a pot. She looked at him and smiled. "Oh, you're up," she said. "I hope you like miso soup. It's all I can make that doesn't taste like crap." Sai could only nod as he turned to go to his restroom. He washed his hands and decided to take a shower. The water was nice and hot. He hadn't realized just how long he'd slept in Shizune's chair; his entire back hurt, not just his neck. Apparently, Lady Tsunade’s chakra had worn off. Sleeping had rid him of his second migraine though, a relief to him. He head was wondering back to Sakura now. She was up to something; he could feel it. There was no way she'd treat him this way usually. Was she doing it because she felt obligated now that they were having sex? It confused him. Normally, if he ended up injured, someone other than Sakura would heal him, but now that he thought about it, it might have been because if he got injured, so had Naruto or Kakashi, or Yamato and usually worse than him. Maybe, she'd just never had a chance to take care of him herself? He needed to stop analyzing, he decided, leaning his head against the cool, wet title of his shower. It didn't matter why she'd come. As confusing and frustrating as it was to him. She was there and was taking care of him. Like a girlfriend would. He hit his head against the tile. He couldn't, wouldn’t think like that. She wasn't his. He wasn't hers. They weren't together, she didn't want to be with him that way and no matter how much soup she made, how well she looked after him, they would not, in the foreseeable future end up together. Not that he wanted to. 'Cause he didn't. He wouldn't know what to do if they did end up that way. But it didn't matter because they wouldn't. He was rationalizing; He blinked forcing the thoughts from his mind. She was just treating him the same way she would Kakashi and Naruto, or any of the others. That made him relax. She was a good friend. When he shut off the water, he heard voices. Sakura and another, soft, feminine voice. "Sakura?" He called, "Who's there?" "Ino," She called back. "She brought you some dango." Sai rolled his eyes. He wasn't really a fan of the treat but would eat it all the same so he would hurt the blonde's feeling. Truth be told, he got the feeling that Ino liked him. Maybe it was the way she was always hanging on him when she was near. "I'm coming out," he said when he had his towel secured on his hips. Thankfully the girls were out of the line of sight for his bedroom and he was able to get in without causing any major incident. He heard squealing, Ino he surmised, and chuckling, Sakura. He could hear bits and pieces. "Hot body," one, Ino he guessed, said. "Want to...him." "Geez, Pig," Sakura said. "Bet he's ...like a God." "Seems to be," Sakura said. "At least from what we just saw." "Why'd .. Towel .. So long?" then more giggling and squealing. So they liked his appearance? Good to know, he guessed. "He's just...like...Sasuke." That was like a knife to the back. Him? Like that homo-traitor? Not likely. Sai considered himself to be a man of principles. He'd never have been so consumed with revenge that he'd have left Naruto, someone who Sasuke, by his own words, had said he'd considered his best friend, and Sakura who had been, and most likely still was, deeply in love with him. He was emotionless because he was made that way. Sasuke had forced himself to disregard emotion. No, he was nothing like the man. He steeled his face, to show nothing of what their words had done to him as he exited his room. He was aware that they immediately changed the subject when his door opened. Ino, who was on the far side of his tiny table, cup of tea in hand, looked up to see him. She smiled and gave him a once over, apparently liking what she saw because her eyes followed him to the kitchen. He ladled some of the soup Sakura made him into the bowl she'd set out and grabbed a dango bun. "So," Ino said, in a way he figured she thought would sound sexy, it didn't. "Are you feeling better Sai?" Mouth full, he could only nod until he swallowed. "Yeah, a little. I honestly did not need to take a day off though." "Oh yes, you did," Sakura insisted, "Tsunade said she found you passed out at Shizune's desk, leaning back in the chair. Plus you had a migraine so severe; she thought you had a blood clot on your brain. So, yes. Yes you did need the day off.' "Sounds to me like you need a whole week off," Ino said, fluttering her eyelashes at him. He was about to ask if she had something in her eye when she suddenly gasped. "Oh, no. What time is it?" "1:15 pm. Why?" Sakura asked. "Shit! I'm late to meet Shikamaru. Sai enjoy the dango. Sakura, don't forget. 8 o'clock, at the Orchid. Sai you're invited too." Ino said rushing herself out the door before he could ask her what she was talking about. So he had to ask Sakura. "Uh, what am I invited to and what is the Orchid?" He asked, taking the cup Ino left to the sink and setting his bowl in as well. He'd already begun washing them when Sakura came and set her cup in as well. "The Orchid is a new Ninja bar. Ino and Choji booked it for Shikamaru’s birthday party which is what we're invited to." "Ah," Sai said, putting the dishes on the rack to dry. "Yeah," Sakura sighed, "It's supposed to be a surprise, but I think he already knows." "Oh? What make you think that?" He was leaning against the sink, arms folded across his chest now, watching her speak. "Last year and the year before, Ino and Choji attempt to throw him a surprise party every year, but he always figures it out. I guess being a genius has its draw backs, huh?" she asked, smiling at him. Then she started gathering her things. "I should go too; I still need to get him something. And don't worry; it'll be a group gift from team Kakashi. Okay? Do you want to go?" "Yeah, sure," he responded without thinking. Probably due to her proximity to him, she was standing directly in front of him. "Great," she smiled. "I'll pick you up at 7:30 and then we'll go get Naruto. You have a button-down shirt right?" "Somewhere." "See you later, Sai," she said. Then, leaning up on her tip-toes, she pressed a soft kiss to his lips, before pulling back and exiting his apartment, leaving him wondering if he were, as Naruto would put it, totally screwed. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
