When Naruto woke, he yawned and shifted to look at his alarm clock, then groaned. He normally slept in on Sundays, but not until past noon. Then again, he didn’t always stay out until after three in the morning at a club the night before, either.
He rolled with a grunt and sat up, rubbing his face hard and glaring at the tiny LED numbers on his clock that showed it was pushing one thirty in the afternoon. He really hadn’t wanted to sleep that late. Whether he liked to study or not, he had assignments due that he needed to get to and Sundays were his only day for really getting things done.
He stood up, stretched, scratched his balls and yawned, making a face at the taste in his mouth. As he stumbled across the room, it didn’t even truly hit him until his hand was on the doorknob that he didn’t live alone anymore. He glanced down at the tent in his boxers and frowned. Well, hopefully, Kiba would be out in the living room or someplace that didn’t have direct line of sight to the doorway and he could get to the bathroom and back before he was spotted.
He eased the door open and peered down the hall. It was very quiet in the apartment and he saw Akamaru laying down at the end by the kitchen, big head resting on massive paws. The dog looked up and perked his ears as Naruto stepped out. "Hey, Akamaru, where’s Kiba?" He asked, not really expecting an answer.
But the dog looked over his shoulder toward the front door and Naruto stared for a full minute, then shook his head, turning toward the bathroom. Once he’d managed to take care of his business, other things had calmed down, so he felt better able to face his new roommate. He headed for the kitchen with the vague notion of coffee or something - and facing Kiba - but the living room and kitchen were empty. He stood with a puzzled look at the dog when he caught sight of the paper on the refrigerator.
Naruto--
Didn’t want to wake you. I had to be at the lab this afternoon at one. I’ll be there ‘til five, help yourself to whatever there is to eat. If you want to come by, that’s cool. See you later.
-Kiba
Naruto read it over twice before it sank in that he was alone. With a frown, he went about making coffee for himself, then stuck a bowl of the casserole Hana had made them the day before in the microwave. He leaned against the counter, sipping his coffee while it warmed, letting the night before run through his head.
He could no longer deny that he was attracted to his roommate. Kiba was, without a doubt, someone he could get very involved with. He reminded himself that he had other priorities, other things he needed to concentrate on. But those convictions seemed a lot weaker now than they did when he turned other people down for dates. Not that he’d had a lot of invitations, but the times he had been asked out, he’d been able to make excuses. Though he didn’t like telling anyone no, none of the people before had made him question himself the way Kiba had.
The microwave beeped, so he took his coffee and food to the tiny table set up in the dining area of their main room and sat down, pushing a pile of papers over to make room for himself. As he ate, he started wondering what it would be like to date Kiba, to have a relationship with the man. But before he could get too far, he shook his head at himself. He had no idea if Kiba would even want one. Yes, he’d asked Naruto to go with him to the club. Yes, he’d asked Naruto to come live with him. But that was a long way from a relationship.
Naruto recognized that he didn’t want to just screw around. He’d done some of that in high school and a lot more of it his first semester there at the college - which was why he had at least one extra semester before he could finish. He didn’t pay enough attention to his classes and basically failed them all. His godfather had told him to straighten up or there’d be no more tuition money.
He wanted to make his parents - wherever they were, he didn’t know because he wasn’t religious - proud of him. He was determined to make something of himself and so the threat had hit home. Naruto had quit messing around, gotten serious about his studies and left that stuff behind. But it had also taught him something.
He’d learned that he liked sex, enjoyed it plenty. But he didn’t really appreciate all that much the quick, impersonal fucks he’d been experiencing. During this time, he’d dated one guy on and off and they’d gotten along pretty well, but in the end, they’d both realized that they just didn’t love each other and went their separate ways. The other guy was a science major at one of the bigger universities, studying bugs. Naruto still saw Shino now and again, but they didn’t date anymore.
But it had taught him that he wanted that someone. He wasn’t looking to get his rocks off, to just fuck. No, he wanted something more. And he had no idea if that was something Kiba was interested in.
Naruto shook his head at himself again as he finished his food and stood up to put the bowl and cup in the sink. He’s probably not even attracted to me, Naruto though, conveniently ignoring the tent he’d seen in Kiba’s towel the night before. I’ve got studying to do, anyway, gotta concentrate on school, he reminded himself and headed back into his bedroom.
He lasted the sum total of an hour at home. His backpack was on his back, his books weighing him down as he trudged the last flight of stairs to the computer lab. He could not, with any real honesty, explain why he was going in to the school lab when he had a perfectly good computer at home. He certainly didn’t need to. "Naruto!" Kiba greeted him with a wide smile.
That’s why, dork, Naruto’s inner-self said, but he ignored it. "Hey, Kiba," he said, scratching the back of his head, grin splitting his face and cheeks turning a little red. "It was too quiet at home," he said. "How’s work?"
Kiba shrugged and waved a hand at the nearly empty lab. "It’s always quiet on Sunday. No one wants to work today."
"Can’t say I blame ‘em," Naruto replied. He stuffed his fists into his pockets and rocked back on his heels, at a loss for what to say or do now that he was here. He couldn’t have missed the look on Kiba’s face when he came in. His roommate had been happy to see him. But even so, he was kicking himself for coming in. I should have just stayed home and talked to Akamaru instead, he thought, squirming a little as he stood there awkwardly.
"Uh, I’ve got an extra chair over here, if you want to sit at the desk with me," Kiba offered, pointing with his thumb.
"Sure!" Naruto said, grateful that Kiba had made the suggestion, relieving his discomfort, and moved around to sit next to the other man.
"So... got homework?" KIba asked and Naruto nodded.
"Yeah, biggest thing is that stuff for Kamizuki. I hope his partner’s there this week," he said with a sigh.
Kiba nodded, "Yeah. Maybe we’ll get out of work then." He snickered and Naruto laughed.
"Yeah, Hagane’s a lot easier to deal with," Naruto agreed as he pulled out his database book and notebook. "Have you looked at it yet?"
Kiba shook his head and dug his own books out. "No. I was kinda hoping you’d be by so I could talk to you about it."
"Okay. I hope you don’t expect me to know any more about it, though..." Naruto started, glancing over.
Kiba bit at his lip then grinned. "Nah, but I figure we can figure it out together. Whaddya think?"
Naruto grinned back and nodded. "Sure, why not? I wasn’t figuring it out alone…"
Kiba laughed and together, they turned to their books.
Two and a half hours later, Kiba was handing the lab over to the evening monitor and they were putting their database homework away. He turned to Naruto and grinned. "Thanks again. I’da never figured it out without your help. Maybe we’ll get lucky and Hagane’ll be there instead of Kamizuki, but even so, I think we should get a decent grade on it."
"It was a lot more involved than I thought it’d be," Naruto said, then shrugged. "But I guess Kamizuki was right. I’ll probably remember more for the final by doing it like this than if I pulled it from the software."
Kiba nodded. "Yup. I don’t like it, either, but he had a point. You got other homework?" He asked as he threw his backpack over his shoulder.
Naruto nodded unhappily. "I haven’t touched my networking stuff. I got a project for it that I have to turn in the outline for tomorrow and I haven’t even done a lot of the research yet. Then I’ve got psychology." This was punctuated with a sour face. "I wish I’d taken that the first semester." Then he shrugged. "Ah, well, the last one’s easy. A bullshit paper on some literature something or other. I haven’t read it, but it’s only a few pages long. Can’t expect a long paper if the damned story is only a few pages, right?"
Kiba shrugged. "Maybe. I’m pretty good at the psychology stuff. I got an A. Want some help with that one?"
Naruto’s eyes lit up. "Hell yeah. I’ll even buy you dinner if you do!"
Kiba laughed. "Don’t need to do that. Got all that food from Hana at home, but I wouldn’t turn down one of those chai tea things we had ‘fore you moved in."
"Done!" Naruto announced and with a laugh, they turned toward the cafeteria.
Naruto was more than a little surprised when he settled into bed that night that he had the vast majority of his homework done. Kiba had pushed, studied with him, helped and even made him coffee when he thought he was done for the night. And as a result, most of the stuff he really needed to do was pretty much done. There were still things for psych and a final edit on his English paper to do, but all in all, he felt really damned good about it.
Kiba, however, was an enigma. Naruto had spent part of his studying time watching his roommate. Kiba had been very happy to see him at the lab, there was no mistaking that. But since then, he’d been a bit more reserved and Naruto wondered at it.
But the truth was, as memories of the night before came back – images of the dancing and his shower flooding his mind – he found himself more than a little uncomfortable. Maybe Kiba was feeling the same way? Naruto couldn’t quite figure it out but he’d found himself looking away quickly when their eyes met or moving a little further away than was strictly necessary when they touched. Because he didn’t quite know what to make of his roommate or of what he, himself, wanted.
The next few days were busy enough that he barely saw his roommate. He was gone before Kiba was up and, as a result, often in bed shortly after Kiba got home at night. After work, he had enough time to shower and get the stink of day-old coffee off of him before heading to class. It was only on Monday that he managed to see any of Kiba and that was just to wave on his way through the labs to class. The rest of the time, they traded notes on the fridge.
So when Thursday – and their shared class – came around, Naruto found himself… looking forward to it. When this realization hit him, he stopped dead in his tracks in the middle of the academic quad and simple stared into space for a moment. He’d missed Kiba. They’d only been living together for five days, apart for three, but he missed his roommate. And he was looking forward to class.
The wind kicked up then, reminding him that he was outside in November and it was cold. He shook his head at himself and continued along the sidewalk then hurried into the computer building. Four flights of stairs later, he flopped into his seat in the classroom.
Kiba landed in his own chair a minute behind him. He spun around, grin plastered to his face, insanely glad to see the other man. "Hey!" His eyes took a brief trip over Kiba’s body, taking in the snug jeans and equally snug t-shirt. He managed – barely – to keep the drool inside his mouth.
"Hey yourself," Kiba said, his own lips spread into a mile-wide smile. "Saw ya come in. I was in the back of the lab."
"That’s why the desk was empty," he said, then blushed a little as he realized just what that gave away. He had obviously been looking for Kiba. He cleared his throat, but the smile on his roommate’s face only got wider.
Kiba’s grin turned knowing, but he didn’t comment directly on Naruto’s slip. Instead he punched the button for his computer and turned to pull his book and notes out of his bag. With his back turned, he finally spoke. "Yeah, if I hadn’t been watching for you, I wouldn’t of seen you go by. That yellow hair stickin’ up everywhere, ya know."
Naruto’s eyes widened briefly, but as Kiba sat up, he spun in his chair to turn his own machine on and avert his face lest it give away his reaction. Kiba had been watching for him. Did his roommate miss him? Kiba had seemed happy to see him. Naruto had just about worked himself into being sure he’d imagined most of the previous weekend – well, the stuff between him and Kiba, anyway. That maybe he’d just played everything up in his mind.
But maybe not. Naruto tried to push the thoughts away as Kamizuki’s teaching partner walked into the room. "Yo," he greeted them, dropping the book he had on the desk and flipping on the projector. "Zu—err, Professor Kamizuki’s running a little late tonight. So I’m covering for now," Professor Hagane said in greeting.
Kiba and Naruto exchanged grins then turned to pay attention to the front of the room. By the time Kamizuki showed up an hour later, they’d thoroughly derailed Hagane, getting him to talk first about the city’s football team, then anime and even music. "Tetsu!" Professor Kamizuki growled when he showed up.
Professor Hagane blushed. "Uh, was just, um, holding things down until you got here," he said and Professor Kamizuki snorted. His hair was down over one eye as it typically was, and the single visible one glared at the other man.
"Uh, they’ll be, um, rested for you?" He asked and Kamizuki just shook his head and stepped up to the desk.
"Projects!" He barked, throwing another glare at the other professor. As the students dove for their bags, Hagane stepped up to Kamizuki and said something into his ear. The blush on Kamizuki’s face had the students fighting hard to keep from laughing. They didn’t know exactly what was said, but when Hagane kissed Kamizuki on the cheek a moment later, they had a pretty good idea. Kamizuki sent an elbow into Hagane’s stomach, but the mischievous grin told them that whatever had been said was still very likely to happen. Either way, Kamizuki seemed in a really good mood for the rest of the class, for which they were all grateful.
After the papers were collected, Kamizuki started firing questions about the project to them and to Naruto’s surprise, he was actually able to participate and answer some of them. As the class progressed, however, he started having a harder and harder time ignoring the man next to him. Kiba would bump him or turn in his chair or do something that would draw his attention to the other man and he found himself fixating. Especially over the bumps or touches. They didn’t have to sit close – there was plenty of space between each of the computers, but they found themselves sharing the same desk space and it was driving Naruto crazy. He had the fleeting thought that getting to sleep that night might just have to involve some lotion and his hand.
Kiba would have argued that it was making him way crazier. His cock was rock hard, had been since the grin on Naruto’s face had greeted him. His mind had been replaying the dance in the club on a very short repeat loop for the last five days. He’d found himself masturbating every damned night and sometimes in the morning in his shower, too, having awakened rock hard and nearly hurting from the dreams he’d been having. Then, this morning, he’d done something he hadn’t done in years. He’d awakened with his hand on his dick and his chest sticky with his cum. And the remnants of bright blue eyes and a moaning, "Fuck, Kiba, coming," in his ears.
The first two nights with Naruto had been way more than Kiba had hoped for out of them living together. The dance Saturday night then the studying together Sunday evening had been almost perfect. Almost, because if he’d had anything to say about it, instead of awkward good nights, they’d have been climbing into bed together to have sex before falling asleep – together. But that wasn’t happening, and Kiba hadn’t quite figured out how to get it to that point. Yet. He was still working on it.
As class was winding down and they were putting their books away, he turned to Naruto. "So, do… you want to go to the club with me tomorrow night?" He asked, biting his lip.
Naruto frowned. "Damn, I wish I could, but I gotta be at ‘bucks on Saturday at seven."
Kiba worked to make sure his disappointment didn’t show. "Oh, yeah, I forgot. Uh, Saturday night, then?"
Naruto nodded, "Hell yeah!" He grinned and Kiba felt the disappointment fade. The trip home was quiet and neither would admit that they were walking just a little too close to be considered right for just roommates. Naruto yawned as they went inside and turned a frown to his friend. "I’m afraid I gotta hit the hay. Six comes way too fuckin’ early," he grumbled.
Kiba grinned. "’Sokay. I gotcha. Sleep well. Might see you for a few ‘fore I’ve gotta get to the club. I don’t work the lab tomorrow. Maybe I’ll go to the ‘bucks and say hi."
Naruto smiled. "Anytime. K, then. Uh, night!"
Akamaru barked to remind Kiba that it was time to go, so, with a wave, they headed out, Naruto watching them go. With a sigh, a scratch to the back of his head and a confused shake of same, he headed in to bed.
Kiba was grateful for the chilly November air as he walked Akamaru to the park. It helped to calm him down some, though not completely. He was still more than a little crazy from the class. He thought about the week up until that point – about them settling in and wondered if he’d really get to see Naruto all that much, even living together, with their crazy schedules. He found himself wondering if he’d like a Network Administration path and how many classes they could take together and he shook his head at himself.
He watched Akamaru run and bark, chasing this and that late animal around. There were still a few birds here and there – or were until the dog scared them away. He’d been lonely before, that was not new, but he’d been pretty happy until he’d seen Naruto. He’d had his jobs – and enjoyed both of them. He’d been doing pretty good in his classes. And he’d had Akamaru, who’d filled in for the companionship.
But he’d been wanting Naruto for so long now and to have him close, but not be able to see him was driving Kiba insane. How much would he give up for the man? How much would he change for the man? And was that the right way to be? Kiba wasn’t sure.
Akamaru ran back to him, barked that he was done and Kiba turned back to go home. Inside the apartment, he tried – knowing he’d fail – to get Akamaru out of the room then stripped and stretched out on his bed. But the dog must have sensed something because with a look that Kiba could have sworn was knowing, the big white animal curled up on the floor, out of sight. Kiba raised his eyebrows, then promptly forgot about it.
He grabbed the bottle of lotion he had on his nightstand – and had to use more than once this week – and poured some into his palm. He liked the lotion over regular lube because he didn’t feel like he needed to get up and shower so much afterword. Pushing the stray thought away, his, now lotion-covered hand slid down to his cock, his eyes closed and the image of cerulean eyes, bright blond hair and a sexy body filled his mind. Kiba, Naruto’s voice came into his head and he knew it wouldn’t take long.
His hand slid slowly over the length, squeezing slightly at the tip then just as slowly back down again. His legs spread and, deciding to stretch it out as long as he could, his fingers skimmed over the sensitive skin behind his sac before teasing his entrance. A quiet moan was loosed from his throat and he bit his lip to hold the sounds in. He stopped long enough to add more lotion then went back to work, one finger pushing through the first ring of muscle. Another quiet moan escaped and his back arched a little as the sensations poured through him.
His mind filled in the image of Naruto over him, replacing his fingers with that of the other man’s. His other hand started moving again, stroking his cock slowly. He tightened his hand around the base, feeling himself careen toward the edge much too quickly. With a grunt, he opened his eyes and stared at the ceiling, trying to find some sort of hold on his sanity.
And then he heard what he was sure was a moan on the other side of the wall and there was nothing for it. His hand started flying over his cock, he pushed another finger inside of himself and his hips rocked as he alternated between fucking himself on his fingers and thrusting into his hand. His eyes slammed closed, his mind brought back the images of Naruto – sexy and naked, disheveled in the morning, intense heated eyes as they danced. With a grunted "Fuck, Naruto," he came, coating his chest and stomach, the pleasure flying through him, hips moving erratically as he rode out his orgasm.
He panted hard, eyes still tightly closed as he came down from it. His legs slid down to lay on the bed, his chest rising and falling with the harsh breathing as he attempted to chase oxygen. He stared at the ceiling wondering, not for the first time, what the hell he was going to do.
Naruto’s hand moved a little faster, his own eyes squeezed closed, images flashing behind the lids. Wet, naked and hard, he’d had no trouble imagining his roommate without the towel he’d been wearing. He bit his lip, the growling voice filling his mind as he flew toward his own climax. He was close, so incredibly close and his back arched a little, his ass lifting from the bed as he flew toward the edge. Then he heard it. The words were unmistakable and Naruto could think of no other reason for those words to be uttered in that tone. Kiba had been masturbating -- as he’d suspected, and had just come, calling his name.
The knowledge swept through him and he came, hard. "Fuck!" He grunted, managing to contain the sound just barely between clenched teeth. His body shuddered hard with it as he painted his stomach in white.
He went boneless, breath still coming in gasps, eyes fixed to the plaster ceiling. There was no question now. Kiba wanted him. But what did he do with the knowledge?
