A/n: I just wanted to say thanks for all of the reviews. I loved reading them all. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Chapter 3 Sasuke’s p.o.v. The sun passed over the morning sky lighting it a fire with new life and light. A new day had begun. Sasuke had already awoken far before the first rays of the sun had hit the sleepy village of Konoha. He sat on the sill of the window in ‘his’ room watching as the village awoke and began their day. From what Naruto had told him yesterday during their duel of sorts, he was stuck here until his wounds healed. Sasuke frowned thinking back to it; he had never been the fastest healer. And by how wounded he had been, Sasuke concluded that he would be here a while. His fist clenched at the realization. Though, he didn’t let the news get to him. He’d still find the one that took away his family sooner or later. Patience was what he needed now, although patience was not a notable trait in Uchihas. Peering out his window, Sasuke found himself staring at the people far below busying themselves with their daily tasks. It was different here than in his own kingdom. Everything here just seemed more…peaceful… There was a soft knock on his door and a moment later it opened and Hinata carefully stepped in with a bowl of water and clean wrappings. A small smile appeared on her soft features as Hinata caught sight of Sasuke. She bowed with a bit of difficulty due to her protruding stomach. “G-good morning, Prince Uchiha. I’ve been sent to clean your wounds and change your wrappings.” She explained, closing the door behind her. Sasuke nodded in affirmative and took off his tattered shirt before sitting himself on a stool giving her easier access. Sasuke had refused the clothes they had offered him, although his own clothes were beyond repair. The only reason why he refused the new clothes was that his old ones had his family’s crest stitched upon it. He felt that if he set them aside and wore clothes unadorned by the Uchiha crest that he was somehow forgetting his family. And that, he could not do. “Hn.” Sasuke said in greeting. He tensed just slightly as he felt the first gentle brush of Hinata’s fingers against the wrappings on his back. Vaguely, he felt as her small warm hands unwrapped his bandages. In the cold of the room, goose bumps arose upon his skin and a slight tremor across his body. Hinata dabbed at the reopened wounds with a damp cloth ever so gently. “I a-apologize for the chill in your room.” Hinata said as she continued her task. “This p-part of the castle becomes drafty sometimes. Shall I request a c-change of room for you?” She asked, dropping the damp cloth into the cool water ignoring as it became tinted a reddish pink with fresh and dried blood. Taking the clean bandages, she began to wrap them carefully around his torso and back. “No. This is fine.” Sasuke answered. He didn’t mind the cold. His family’s kingdom had always been on the colder side due to its location. It was said that the barest of the sun’s rays touched there and that was the reason behind the Uchiha family’s paleness. Finishing with his back, Hinata began on his arms next. “Nonsense, there’s no reason to be kept in the c-cold. I’ll send for some wood for the f-fireplace.” Hinata reassured, giving him the sweetest of smiles as she continued her duty. Sasuke watched, fascinated by how this woman could be so kind. Only his mother had ever shown him this kind of gentleness. His eyes diverted down to her swollen stomach. Perhaps all mothers held this quality about them. Suddenly feeling his tongue fat in his mouth, Sasuke looked away from the woman. He wanted to ask about the prince. All night he had been wondering what sort of man he was. After yesterday’s ‘event’ he had become curious about the young prince. “Hinata,” He called out as he controlled himself, “Can you tell me about Prince Naruto?” Sasuke asked. Hinata didn’t miss a beat as a larger more comforted smile overtook her features. She must have been fond of him, Sasuke supposed. “Prince N-Naruto is a great man. Though he is but twenty, he has led this land into great prosperity. He ascended to p-power at the tender age of fifteen only after Lord Kakashi convinced the Council to let him r-rule.” She spoke softly. Sasuke took the information in stride trying to accumulate an accurate picture of who this Naruto Uzumaki was. “And his father ruled before that I suppose.” Sasuke tried to fill in the missing information, still unsure what why this land did not have a King and only a crown prince. Hinata’s motions stilled at the comment and she looked down in mourning. Sasuke noticed the sudden change in the other. “N-no. The King was m-murdered seventeen years ago when Prince Naruto was only three and the Queen d-died giving birth to Prince Naruto. The council ruled before they deemed Prince N-Naruto fit to rule.” Hinata explained, her voice now remorseful. Sasuke nodded in understanding, but that posed another question. It had seemed strange to him yesterday as well, but now that he knew what had happened it was very odd indeed. Already having dwelled into the rabbit hole, Sasuke decided to press further and learn more. If he was going to be stuck here he might as well know the history of the royal family. “Why isn’t Prince Naruto the king? Shouldn’t he have had his coronation after his father’s death?” Sasuke pried as Hinata finished her work on his arms. She stopped again, sitting on a chair not too fair away. It was the same chair that Naruto had sat in, while watching over him Sasuke couldn’t help but notice. A small sigh escaped her and she touched her belly lovingly before gazing back up at him. “Prince N-Naruto can’t become k-king unless he marries. He is a s-submissive.” Hinata explained, feeling slightly uncomfortable for she didn’t know if she should be sharing this information with the foreign prince or if Naruto had wanted to tell him himself. Sasuke’s expression twisted into a bewildered one as he heard the odd explanation and the word ‘submissive’. He had heard of people being submissive, but had never known a person to be a submissive. Before he could contain himself, Sasuke asked the question on his mind. “What is a submissive? I’ve never heard of such a thing before.” Sasuke inquired. Hinata’s eyes widened at the admission and she nearly choked on her breath. “Y-you’ve never heard of the f-famous Konoha Submissives?” Hinata asked incredulously. It was impossible not to have heard of them. All one needed to do what travel and along the road one would come upon the rumor that some believed and others refused to. Sasuke scowled, feeling inadequate for not knowing what was obviously well known in these parts. “What is a submissive? I demand to know!” Sasuke ordered firmly, not liking how he felt dumb in this matter. Hinata froze up in fear at the suddenness of the outburst and went to apologize and explain immediately when another voice spoke. “It means, Prince Sasuke, that I’m like a woman and can carry children.” Naruto said, chuckling at the wide-eyed look Sasuke gave him. “And what did I say about frightening pregnant woman, huh, teme.” Naruto continued as he stepped further into the room with his little red fox, Kyuubi, perched on his shoulder. He had come to take Sasuke on a tour of the castle so he was better acquainted only to catch their conversation from behind the door. So, he had silently listened and came in when he felt their discussion was becoming too heated. Hinata blushed deeply at being caught talking about Naruto and his past. She stood and bowed deeply in apology. Naruto just laughed and helped her stand up straight again. “Hinata, there’s no reason for that. Haven’t I told you a thousand times not to bow to me? I’m not all that special.” Naruto said, trying once again to convince one of his subjects to quit with the bowing. It embarrassed him to no end when others bowed. There was no reason for it. A shy smile upturned Hinata’s lips as she nodded to her prince. “But you are, my prince, to all of us.” She said. “I’ll be going to fetch some firewood for Prince Uchiha’s room.” She said, lowering her head as she quietly moved from the room. Sasuke watched as she left, before turning to face Naruto. “She didn’t stutter when talking to you.” Sasuke said, noticing it. Naruto grinned and waved it off as nothing. “Yeah, Hinata’s really shy. Once she gets to know you and trusts you, her stutter goes away.” Naruto explained. Feeling Sasuke’s eyes on him, Naruto sighed and shook his head at the other before lifting his arms out to his sides and spinning slowly. “Take a good look teme. I’m like any other normal man out there. I have all the same parts with just a few extras. The only difference really is that I can get pregnant.” Naruto said. He was used to getting this reaction all his life. Whenever anyone heard of his ‘condition’ they would stare unbelieving at him as if he had grown another head. After all, being a submissive didn’t apply to every male in Konoha. Only a few of the males in the royal family in the past had been submissive. Some said it was due to their bond with their demon foxes. The closer the demons were to their human masters the higher the chance that male would be a submissive. Or, so they said. Sasuke coughed uncomfortably as he caught himself staring and quickly looked away. Finally catching the insult, Sasuke glared at the other. “Don’t call me, teme,” Sasuke said just as Naruto tripped on his own two feet and toppled to the floor at his feet. Sasuke smirked. “Dobe.” He said, finding the new name quite suiting for the young man. Naruto glared at the name and quickly jumped to his feet, getting in Sasuke’s personal space. “Hey! Don’t call me a dobe, you teme!” Naruto yelled. As expected, Sasuke glared at the name and stood straight with a bit of difficulty. “My name isn’t teme. You will address me with the proper respect.” Sasuke ordered, furious. Naruto chuckled and stuck out his tongue at the other in defiance. “Don’t call me a dobe and I won’t call you a teme.” Naruto said feeling quite proud of himself from getting some sort of reaction out of the other. Sasuke gave him an even look that said he could care less about what the other wanted. Leaning in close to whisper in Naruto’s ear, Sasuke smirked. “Do…be…” He said. Naruto exploded at the remark. “You know what I was going to take you on a tour of the castle today, but no. I don’t think I will now.” Naruto decided as he turned and began to walk away. All he had been trying to do was cheer Sasuke up a little, but he just had to be a bastard about it. Near the door, Naruto was about to leave when Sasuke spoke up from behind him. “Dobe, just show me around the castle.” Sasuke said as he approached him. When he had lost his manners that had been instilled in him from a young age, he couldn’t pinpoint. But, maybe by this relaxing place he had lost the rigid speech he had been taught to use in his homeland. Frowning in thought, Naruto grudgingly decided to go forth with his original plan. “Fine, but no more calling me a dobe.” Naruto warned, though the threat became nonexistent by the large grin that overtook his face. Sasuke rolled his eyes at the other’s quick change in attitude. “Hn.” He said as they left the room together once Sasuke donned on his tattered shirt. “Dobe.” He finished. “TEME!” Naruto could be heart shouting from all over the castle. Naruto must have felt it was necessary to show Sasuke every room in the entire castle, but that’s exactly what he was doing. So far, Sasuke had been shown five bathrooms, three sitting rooms, and a library which he took interest in. Naruto, through out this all, never lost his energized enthusiasm. It was an amazing feat to behold in Sasuke’s opinion. Venturing into another room, Sasuke noticed that it was the kitchen by the many people chopping, cutting, stirring, and washing pots. Naruto grinned at everyone and greeted each of them by name before coming to who he could only assume was the head chef. This man had slightly long sandy colored hair with black eyes. Stocky with a bit of a pot belly, the man greeted Naruto warmly with a slap to the back. “Naruto! It’s good to see you! Here for a snack?” He asked in good spirits. Sasuke nearly gapped at the informal greeting. No servant would have gotten away with that in his family’s kingdom. But, it appeared to be the norm here. Naruto laughed and gave the other a playful slap back. “Nah, I’m not here for that Chouji. I’m taking Prince Uchiha here on a tour since he’ll be staying with us for a while. He’s pretty much a stick in the mud though so treat him kindly.” Naruto said, gesturing back to Sasuke who stood stiffly at the entrance way. Chouji gave him a once over warily not trusting the stranger. “Well, if you ever need a bite to eat, Prince Uchiha, come to me and I’ll fix you something good.” Chouji offered, though it was obvious that he was uncomfortable around the other prince. Sasuke nodded, but said nothing in return. Sensing the somewhat tense atmosphere, Naruto quickly ushered Sasuke out the door. “We’ll be back later. We’ve got a lot to see yet.” Naruto hollered back as he went. The rest of the tour went similar to that. Each time that Naruto introduced Sasuke to someone they’d instantly become suspicious and guarded. He had hoped that they’d welcome Sasuke openly, but it appeared that was not going to happen. It’d take time for them to become adjusted to Sasuke and vice versa. So far they had met with Ino, the head maid and wife to Shikamaru who was one of his top advisers. They had met with Tenten who was in charge of the armory. They’d watched some of his knights training. And, they had visited the healers who were Tsunade, Sakura, and Hinata who was only an apprentice. But, through out them all, the only one that showed Sasuke any sort of friendliness was Hinata. Thorough out, Sasuke had yet to speak more than three words to him, which left Naruto a little annoyed from all the effort he had taken to explain his land and his people. Sasuke didn’t seem interested at all though! Coming to the end of the tour, Naruto led Sasuke into the vast throne room where two thrones sat at the far end. A large portrait of the royal family hung behind the chairs. Golden hair nearly tamed hung down carelessly to show a masculine tanned face, while two sapphire stained eyes stared out with seriousness and sincerity to the viewer. Tall and wrapped in a long white regal robe that had red flames licking at the bottom was Naruto’s father, Minato Namikaze. The Queen stood beside her husband, her long burgundy red hair flowed down her shoulders coming to an end at her mid back. Pale skin enhanced her gray eyes that peered out to the world with a gentleness that most could not dream of. A petite smile upturned her red lips. She was truly a beautiful woman. “That is the last portrait that was painted of my family. That’s my father Minato Namikaze and my mother Kushina Uzumaki.” Naruto explained, taking upon a somber expression as he did so. Sasuke noticed the change in Naruto and moved his gaze from the beautifully done portrait to the blonde at his side. The look on Naruto’s face made his heart clench painfully, but he didn’t understand the reason why. He didn’t know the other, but he recognized that expression. It was the same one he had seen in the mirror this morning when he was reminded of his family’s deaths. His hand twitched at his side, wanting strangely to lay a comforting hand on Naruto. Sasuke logically resisted the outrageous urge. “Hinata told me what happened to them.” Sasuke said quietly, feeling that he needed to give some sort of response. “I’m sorry for your losses.” He apologized sincerely. Naruto shook his head at the remark. “It’s all right, it was a…long time ago…” He said softly. Sasuke felt his chest tighten at the way Naruto’s eyes turned downcast in sadness. “I just regret not being able to find my father’s killer. You see, it happened in the middle of the night and when I awoke to find my father I can’t remember anything after leaving my room. Baa-chan, I mean Tsunade, says that my brain won’t let me remember, because it was too traumatizing... All I remember is waking up the next day with these…” Naruto explained, gesturing to the three whisker marks on each of his cheeks. Sasuke had been wondering about them since he had met the youth. He had never seen scars like that before… “Someone attacked you?” Sasuke asked incredulously as if he couldn’t believe that anyone would hurt such a kind person as Naruto. The blonde prince shook his head at the accusation. Sasuke’s tense body relaxed at the motion, although he didn’t know exactly why it had been tense at all. “They’re not scars if that’s what you’re thinking. In my family, when an heir gets pregnant their fox finds a mate as well so when a baby is born the fox of the parent can willingly give their kit to the baby so they can become bonded for life in companionship. It’s a contract we’ve had since the beginning of Konoha. Tsunade believes I, somehow during that night, became closer to my fox Kyuubi and because of that I gained these ‘whisker marks’.” Naruto explained, absently petting Kyuubi’s fur as the creature nuzzled his cheek. His blue eyes wandered then over to his father’s throne and a dreamy expression came upon his face. “You know, Prince Uchiha, I’ve always dreamed that someday I could become a great king just like my father was.” He admitted, before his eyes shifted over to his mother’s throne. The expression turned sadder then, as if he had lost hope for that dream. Sasuke’s fist clenched at his side. He didn’t want to see that kind of expression on Naruto. It didn’t look right. This person should never feel such sadness, he thought. “But I guess dreams sometimes just don’t come true.” He said, his shoulders slumping in defeat. Sasuke knew why too, from what Hinata had told him he knew why Naruto couldn’t fulfill that dream of his. “Are you really all right with it, not being able to rule when it is your birth right to?” Sasuke found himself asking, absently wondering when he had been so interested in something…in his entire life. Naruto’s bit his lip for a moment in thought before he turned to stare at Sasuke with those beautiful blue eyes. Sasuke was reminded of the first time he had seen them and mistakenly thought that Naruto was an angel there to take him to heaven or hell. “No, I don’t like it, but I’ve accepted it. And I can rule… I just have to find someone that is willing to rule with me and not just keep the power all to himself. Princes like that are few and far in between though.” He laughed, though it wasn’t joyous or humorous as it had been all day. Sasuke didn’t want to hear Naruto’s laugh if it sounded like that… “Prince Naruto—” Sasuke began to ask only to be stopped by Naruto’s hand being held up in front of him. “—Naruto. Just call me Naruto.” The blonde said with a smile. He asked everyone to call him that. He didn’t believe there were stations amongst people. Everyone was equal in his eyes… It fascinated Sasuke to no end. Opening his mouth, Sasuke tried again without the title. “…Naruto, are you…?” He tried, but found he was unable to say it. It made him uncomfortable, the topic. Maybe because things like that weren’t discussed in his own kingdom. “Am I what? Gay? Well it’d be kind of depressing if I wasn’t since I have to have babies and all. Fortunately, I am gay.” Naruto said, smiling again. Sasuke couldn’t help but stare at it. He had never seen someone smile as much or have such a beautiful smile Naruto. Making a decision, Sasuke looked away uncomfortably. Titles didn’t matter to Naruto. Titles didn’t matter here period. So why was he still hanging onto his so forcefully? If it was a prince like himself, if I was only Naruto, he’d be all right without the title… “Sasuke.” He said softly. Naruto blinked, not hearing it clearly. “What?” Naruto asked. Sasuke looked at him then, straight in the eyes. “You can call me Sasuke.” He said firmly. Naruto’s eyes widened at the statement, but his expression twisted into a mischievous one. “Prince Sasuke?” Naruto asked, laughing. Sasuke rolled his eyes and shook his head. “No, you idiot, just Sasuke.” He clarified, a bit annoyed that Naruto was toying with him. Naruto grinned and waved his hand as if he finally understood. “Oh, I get it. So I can call you Just Sasuke. What a funny name.” Naruto joked, chuckling as Sasuke glared at him. He was trying to be civil about this, but Naruto just wanted to push his buttons. “Dobe.” Sasuke said flatly. Naruto laughed a little. “Teme.” He shot back. It seemed as if things were beginning to go well between them. Naruto was glad. Naruto’s p.o.v A few days had passed since Sasuke awoke and currently he was in the library reading about the history of Konoha from what Naruto could remember. He barely spoke to anyone except for his trademark ‘hn’ which was really starting to piss Naruto off, although his attitude seemed to have improved toward Naruto since the tour. But still, no one in the castle was warming up to him either except for Hinata and himself. And now Kakashi had asked to talk to him about their guest. Naruto groaned as he paced in his father’s study. This was becoming a nightmare. All he was trying to do was save someone’s life. How did it become like this? Looking back at his father’s portrait that hung on the wall behind him, Naruto sighed as he leaned back against his large desk. Naruto was sure that his father would know exactly what to do in this situation. Was he wrong in what he did? Should he have let Sasuke die? Naruto’s heartbeat quickened as he thought back to that night. Should he have not brought Sasuke back from the angel’s grasp? Suddenly, the door opened and Kakashi stepped in silently. With a slouched posture, the silver haired captain of the guard bowed in respect before taking a seat in one of the chairs in front of the desk. Naruto crossed his arms, waiting for what Kakashi had to say. “He needs to leave.” Kakashi said in all seriousness. Naruto pressed his lips in a thin line of annoyance before he recollected himself. “Why? He hasn’t done anything to raise suspicion against him. His family was murdered not two weeks ago! I won’t throw him on the street when I know he won’t survive with his injures.” Naruto argued, taking on the role given to him by his birth, the role of prince and ruler of this land. “Naruto, he is an Uchiha. You know very well what they are capable of! How do you know that this ‘murder plot’ wasn’t cooked up by his father? We have not seen the ruins of the castle for ourselves. All we have are rumors to go on. He could have been sent to kill you. Have you forgotten what I’ve told you? Fugaku Uchiha tried to take over this land before you were born. What’s to say that he isn’t trying to do it again now?” Kakashi chided, standing from his seat in his hot blooded rage. He had been there to serve Minato as a child when the Uchihas attacked the castle in attempts to gain control over Konoha. Though there hadn’t been any attempts in years, there was no proof that Fugaku had decided to end his campaign. Slamming his hand down onto the solid wooden desk, Naruto asserted his authority over the older man. “Kakashi! Are you really suggesting that Fugaku nearly killed his own son on the faith that I’d take him in and heal him? I don’t believe any father is that cruel, king or no. Besides, Fugaku isn’t as underhanded as to use tactics such as these. Sasuke is not an assassin trying to kill me. He’s victim just as I was years ago. He stays. That is my final decision.” Naruto said leaving no room for any sort of argument against the youngest Uchiha. Naruto’s heart beat sped at the threatening manner Kakashi’s body was language was showing toward Sasuke and angry flooded his veins to the man that had been his teacher, the nearest person to a father he had had after Minato died. Kyuubi hissed and growled from his perch on Naruto’s desk. Naruto took a breath to calm himself down and moved to sit down when a hand latched onto his upper arm firmly. He was twisted around and suddenly Kakashi was staring at him closely with his eye narrowed in suspicion and confusion. He had noticed Naruto’s strange temper. He had never acted this way before. Naruto bit the inside of his cheek as he watched Kakashi analyze him. Of course Kakashi had noticed his odd reactions. The man had been in his life from the day he was born. It was nearly impossible to get anything past the older man. “What did you do Naruto?” Kakashi’s voice softened to an affectionate whisper as his grip on Naruto’s arm loosened before it disappeared completely. Naruto looked away from that probing eye and sat down in his father’s chair behind the desk. He didn’t speak, knowing that what he had done wasn’t supposed to happen. Realizing the direness of the situation, Kakashi quickly opened the door and flagged down a servant. “Find Iruka Umino and bring him here immediately. It’s an emergency concerning the prince.” Kakashi ordered. The servant rushed off then as soon as the word emergency caught his hearing. Naruto’s eyes snapped up to look at Kakashi as he heard the order. Fear crossed those blue eyes as panic arose in him. Why had Kakashi done that? Why did he have to bring Iruka into this too! “Kakashi-sensei, why—” Naruto’s question was cut off by a sharp glare from the silver haired man as he waited by the door for the servant’s return. That glare alone told Naruto to be silent and although Kakashi had no right to demand such a thing, Naruto complied. Kakashi was still his teacher and older than him and it was because of that that he listened and remained quiet. It didn’t take long before a man as old as Kakashi ran hastily down the hall. He was shorter than average although taller than Naruto. His dark brunette hair was pulled back into a ponytail. Chocolate colored eyes were in panic as he neared Kakashi who was leaning against the doorway for him. His tan skin was only marred with one scar, a long gash across the bridge of his nose from when he was young. Reaching the door to the study, Iruka ran inside and as soon as he located Naruto sitting in the king’s chair, his racing heart calmed. “Naruto, what’s wrong?” Iruka asked, his urgency clearly heard in his voice. Naruto’s shoulders slumped a little at seeing his primary caretaker from when he was a baby. Iruka had raised him and taught him what he was would have been taught in school, while Kakashi had been his fighting instructor and taught him of his kingdom and how to rule it properly. Without these two men in his life, he wouldn’t have become the person he was today. And so, because of that, Naruto sunk down in his chair feebly trying to hide from their gazes. Kyuubi crawled into his master’s lap sensing his distress. Kakashi walked back into the room and closed and locked the door behind him. That action told Naruto that he didn’t plan to leave until this matter was settled. “Iruka, Naruto didn’t call you here. I did. There is something important that we all need to discuss.” Kakashi explained. Iruka gave him a quizzical look, having already made it to Naruto’s side. “What’s the problem Kakashi?” He asked clearly confused. Kakashi looked toward Naruto and motioned for him to start explaining. The blonde gulped as he looked between the two men that had raised him and felt his confidence dwindle away into nothingness. Though, he knew that he couldn’t leave until he explained exactly what had happened that night when he had saved Sasuke from death. “When I brought Sasuke back here from the forest, he was past the point of being saved. Baa-chan knew that and I knew it, but I convinced her to heal his wounds anyway.” Naruto paused for a moment, trying and failing to gauge the reactions of the two in the room. He bit the inside of his cheek to push back the memories that were trying to resurface. Now was not the time to think about this sort of thing. “When dawn came, Baa-chan told me that Sasuke had passed away during the night… I went to the healing chamber and saw him lying there. I didn’t want it to end like that for him. What ever had happened to him I knew that he wasn’t supposed to die like this. So, I...pleaded with the angel of death to give back his soul…” Naruto took a deep breath, his hand fisting over his heart where it still hurt even after a week had past. Kakashi and Iruka were listening intently now, concentrated on each word he said. They were worried as they should have been. What he had done was very dangerous. “I know that I shouldn’t have. I know that my heritage is dangerous to use, but I couldn’t let him die like that… I used my soul to tether his soul to his body and my blood to seal it…” Naruto finished. There was silence all around him. It deafened him hearing nothing but his own heartbeat that drummed in his ears. Soon though, the outburst he was expecting came. “Naruto! How could you do that! You know the consequences of this, don’t you!” Iruka yelled, taken back by his prince’s actions. Kakashi was next, seething with anger not toward his prince but toward the Uchiha who he saw as the cause of this. “Naruto, if he dies you will too! You knew that and yet you still…” He couldn’t finish, his jaw too clinched in fury to voice his raging thoughts. Iruka, worried, rested a hand on Naruto’s shoulder. He could feel it trembling under his touch. Naruto stood then and began to walk away from the two men. Kyuubi followed him loyally. “We’re finished discussing this matter.” Naruto whispered as he unlocked the door and left without another word. Iruka and Kakashi shared a concerned look, both of them realizing what would most probably happen. “They’ll be drawn to each other because of this connection, won’t they Kakashi.” Iruka said. Kakashi could only nod, not knowing what else he could do. Naruto had already done too much… Sasuke’s p.o.v. He had stayed in this castle for a few days already and with each day that passed, Sasuke found himself grudgingly becoming used to living here. The warm atmosphere between the servants and the nobles that lived within the castle walls was compelling and the way everyone treated each other like they were friends or family was alluring. In Kumogakure, the servants did not dare look upon the nobles and the nobles couldn’t care less about servants or anyone lower than their station. Within the castle walls, there had always been this morbid and dark feeling that made one want to seek sunlight and warmth as soon as possible. Sasuke had grown up in that kind of atmosphere though and barely had noticed it anymore, until he had come here. It relaxed him, this place. At times he could find himself actually letting down his guard, which back home could have proved deadly. Sasuke sighed inwardly as he closed the book he had been reading. Naruto had given him full access to anything he wanted in the castle. And while he hated the idea of being kept here until he healed, he had no other choice as long as he was as weak as he was now. However, once he healed enough and regained his strength he would leave the second after and avenge his family. Standing slowly, Sasuke returned the book he had been reading back to his original place before picking out another one. It was another history reference on this land. He had thought that as long as he was stuck here he should learn more about where he was. Naruto and Hinata had filled him in a little, but he wanted to know more. So far, he had learned that this land was once under the rule of something called the ‘Council’, although the family name Namikaze had always been the rulers of this land. The Council had been a kind of parliament that instructed the village from the background, while the King was the figure head. Only in the last generation had the King taken back control over the village and disbanded the council. Farther back, he had learned that when this village was first built the first recorded Namikaze had fought a gigantic fox demon named Kyuubi that had nine tails. The man had somehow defeated the demon and forced it into a contract with his family. Sasuke supposed that this was contract that Naruto had told him about earlier. The Kyuubi’s descents would defend the village and remain loyal to the Namikaze’s so far as the Namikaze’s bonded their children to the Kyuubi’s descents and fed and took care of them. There was even a festival that celebrated the contract between the demons and the royal family. It was an interesting history to read. Though something still bothered him, Naruto’s father’s surname was Namikaze, but Naruto’s was Uzumaki just like his mother’s. It was strange. The door opened near him and Sasuke looked up only to see Naruto smiling at him, rubbing the back of his neck nervously. Sasuke scowled. He didn’t want to admit it, but the more Naruto visited him the more he wanted to see him. He was getting used to seeing the blonde and Sasuke didn’t like that. “Hey, you still reading?” Naruto asked from the doorway with Kyuubi ever present at his side. He made to step into the room only to trip over a footstool. Sasuke snorted at the action and stared, amused as Naruto shoot right back up again as if he had not just fallen. Looking at the book, still unopened, on the table Sasuke decided to leave it for now. Naruto was more interesting he had learned. From the clumsy antics to the childish outbursts when the servants made fun of him, Naruto was certainly a ball of energy. “No, dobe, I just finished.” Sasuke said. He had begun to call the prince that more often than not ever since he had woke him up at the most ungodly hour of the morning his third day there asking him if he wanted anything and if he was comfortable. During which, Naruto had been taken out of his room by the ear by his caretaker whose name he learned was Iruka. Naruto puffed out his cheeks and crossed his arms at the name, annoyed. He was not a dobe! “Stop calling me that, teme!” Naruto threw back, grinning at his own name that he had decided to give to Sasuke. He always acted so high and mighty especially to the servants. And whenever anyone tried to talk to him he brushed them off or acted rude. So, Naruto had dubbed Sasuke a bastard and it was only too fun to see him become angry whenever he was called that. Sasuke rolled his eyes at the other, used to the comment. “Don’t hold your breath there, idiot.” Sasuke murmured. Naruto gaped at the comment before he marched over to the other man who was two or three inches taller than him. He was not going to let that prick get away with that. “Now see here you bastard, I’m not an idiot! You’re a—” Naruto tried to think of another name to call him, only to come up with nothing. Sasuke smirked upon seeing this. “Don’t think too hard or else your brain might over heat.” He whispered cheekily. He didn’t want to admit it, but it felt nice not to greet everyone without formalities. And it was fun to play around with Naruto. The comment only served to infuriate Naruto more as his face began to heat up with both embarrassment and anger. “Teme—” Naruto began, about to go through a long line of insults when Sasuke suddenly asked a question that deterred him. “Naruto, why is your surname Uzumaki?” Sasuke asked, effectively defusing Naruto’s anger. “What?” Naruto asked, confused. Sasuke rolled his eyes at the other and repeated his question. “Why is your surname Uzumaki? Your father’s surname and all before him was Namikaze.” Sasuke explained. Naruto, feeling his anger disappear, sighed. “My parents weren’t married. And when the villagers found out that my mother was pregnant with me…” Naruto’s eyes darkened. “They didn’t deem me fit to carry the Namikaze name. When I was born I almost wasn’t named the heir of Minato, but my father fought tooth and nail and in the end I was named crown prince, but my surname would be Uzumaki. That’s all you need to know.” Naruto said as he turned toward the door. He suddenly didn’t feel like visiting anymore. “But there’s more, isn’t there?” Sasuke asked, knowing in the back of his mind that there was much more. A tiny matter like Naruto being a bastard child wouldn’t impede on his right to be the prince and future king. Naruto nodded. “Yeah, there is. But that’s for another time.” Naruto managed a smile as he left. Sasuke was left alone in the library after that. He’d wait for Naruto to tell him the rest. The blonde had been upfront with most information already. He’d just have to gain the other’s trust to know the full tale of Naruto’s birth which he knew would be just as interesting as Naruto himself was. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Until the next chapter, please oh please review for me!
