A/N : Sorry about the huge spaces and any other errors. I'm having a hard time with the new format.
Just to be clear, I don't HATE Neji. OR Tsunade. In fact, I'm very fond of both of them, and I DO ship NejiHina. But I wanted to put this through Sakura's perspective, and since Sakura's naturally a bit jealous, I played it up for the story. Next chapter will be how Hinata and Sakura got together in the first place. Hopefully. Rates and Reviews are so very loved. And they help me write, especially the critical ones. Enjoy! * * * * * * * * * * * * They won't let her in. Sakura sits rigidly in the waiting room of the emergency room ward, nails grinding into the arms of her seat, a nervous, nauseous feeling boiling in her stomach. Three hours. Three hours since she'd gotten here. Since Shizune had told her to wait. Since she'd heard anything at all. She understands that even though she herself is a talented medic nin, she is still a nurse, and cannot enter patient, examination, or operating rooms without Tsunade's or in rare cases, Shizune's permission. She knows that legally, her and Hinata aren't married, and even though ninja villages lent very little thought or action to marriage or joint living situations in the first place, there was fine print in place to keep same-sex couples from seeing each other. Usually, this fine print was of no importance, and cast aside under dire circumstances. Couples, any variation thereof, were given the permission to be at each other's bedside during times of duress. Sakura also knows that the only reason she can't see Hinata right now is because the only person enforcing it in the entire village also happened to be their Hokage. Tsunade isn't homophobic by any means. Sakura had seen first hand the little booklets that Jiraiya would slide into her desk, the kind he'd only write upon her request, the kind with enough vivid descriptions of male genitalia to probably have the perverted hermit washing his hands incessantly for days after he finished writing them. Tsunade, like most women, loved to curl up with a bottle of sake, a good boysmut ficlet and the dull end of a kunai. But Tsunade has never really forgiven both her and Hinata for single-handily claiming the only women in the village Naruto ever had a chance with. She frowns, biting at her lip. She knows that Hinata's in the best of hands, and in all likelihood this was just another one of her habitual fainting spells. But she'd passed out in the Hyuuga compound, she'd grown up there, and they had to have known about her trouble staying conscious during emotional trying times. For it to be severe enough to actually send her to the hospital- Something's not right. The medic nin curls her fists, a sick mixture of raw fear and anger rising up in her chest. She'll give Tsunade-sama five more minutes. Five more /agonizing/ minutes and if she wasn't given word by then, she'll smash down the door herself. /”Sakura-san/ Shizune pokes her head around the corner, somehow managing to appear even more distressed than usual. She raises and eyebrow, quickly stowing her emotions away for later use on her teacher. “Yes, Shizune-senpai?” “We have someone requesting to see you, if that's alright.” Shizune says carefully, swallowing hard. Sakura simply rolls her eyes. Poor Shizune is so used to treading on eggshells around Tsunade she neglects to drop the submissive act, even around her technical subordinate. “Who is it?” A flash of a long, platinum blonde ponytail and vivid blue eye. Sakura inwardly smiles, and even allows one to tug at the corners of her lips as Ino seats herself beside Sakura. “Sup forehead?” Sakura sighs, biting her lip. “Nothing right now.” The blonde frowns, though her look of genuine concern could be mistaken for a scowl. Ino reaches out, and what Sakura initially assumes is going to be a pat on the shoulder turns out to be a crushing embrace. “Ino, I'm fine, Hinata's fine, it's” “I know, but it's always hard when a teammate is in the hospital. ” the blonde's muffled reply comes, as her head's firmly squished somewhere between Sakura's neck and shoulder. “I can only imagine when it's your girlfriend. ” The tug on the corners of Sakura's mouth becomes a real smile, albeit a weak one. “You didn't call me “pig” or any nasty names.” Ino complains, bringing her head back up. “Now I /know/ it's not just Hinata's that's got you down. Tsunade-sama giving you a hard time again?” /Classic-freakin'-Ino./ Sakura wonders about the Yamanaka's almost psychic ability sometimes, though dismisses it as a side-effect of her favorite jutsu. Ino, unlike Tsunade, never had any problem with her and Hinata's relationship. “Fine. Just more boys for me to choose from now” and Sakura had to laugh at her pick of the litter mentality. Sometimes she wonders if Ino is jealous, but then she goes off on some tirade about some tall dark stranger she met on a mission and Sakura just rolls her eyes. /Straight as a fucking arrow./ “Yeah.” Sakura blows out a breath. “Tsunade won't let me in there. Legal mumbo-jumbo.” Ino makes a noise like an agitated cat. “Bull. Shit. Tsunade-sama doesn't give two shits about legality.” a snide smile crosses the blonde face. “She's probably just jealous of your girlfriend.”She pokes Sakura right below the hairline. “I'll bet she just wants to rub /her/ huge forehead against /yours/.” And Sakura has to stiffle a giggle as Ino makes horribly fake moans. “Oh, Oh Sakura, you make my cranium feel /so good/” “Sakura!” There's a very sobering silence as the door bursts open, revealing the object of their conversation. Tsunade stares at them, steely-eyed and lips pursed. Sakura clears her throat, the mirth quickly draining from her face as she remembered exactly why she'd come here in the first place. “Permission to enter, Tsunade-sama?” Sakura skips the formalities, the bitter taste of fear returning to her mouth. “Granted.” she says shortly, stepping aside to allow Sakura through to the room. Sakura says nothing, swallowing around the ball in her throat as she leaves her seat and edges past Tsunade into the room. /Stay professional/ Sakura reminds herself though she still cringes seeing Hinata splayed out on the hospital bed, hooked up to a heart-rate monitor and IV drip. Her eyes were still shut, though Sakura feels an enormous wave of relief wash over her when she see's that's she's breathing evenly. Out of pure habit she checks the monitor. Her pulse is lower than normal, but nothing life-threatening. She turns to the tall, imposing blonde woman still standing rigidly at the door. “Tsunade-sama,” Sakura exhales. “If I may ask, wha-” “It's her sternum again.” comes the flat reply, and Sakura feels the familiar surge of anger in her chest. Not at Tsunade, but at Neji. Ever since the chuunin exams nearly five years ago, Hinata's entire chest cavity had been extremely sensitive. Coughing up blood was almost a normal occurrence for the Hyuuga, and half a year ago the sternum, already weak, had chipped off her ribcage. Normal healing jutsu was far too unrefined for such a primitive area, and attempts to remove the free-floating bone were met with multiple heart-failures. Hinata had technically died at least three times. Instead they'd molded a makeshift chakra seal around the fragment to keep it in place. It worked much like the seal on Tsunade's forehead, but due to the location, making an efficient seal was impossible, so it leaked, and had to be replenished on a daily basis. Hinata never forgot to do so, but any considerably strain on her chakra system could case the seal to fail. Sakura clenched her fists, gritting her teeth. Hinata may have forgiven her cousin, but Sakura has not. To say Sakura hates Neji because of that alone would be incorrect. Sakura could hold a grudge, yes, but in her heart of hearts she tries to forgive everyone. She assumes Naruto had rubbed that off on her. Neji had been under enormous distress, and what he couldn't take out on his uncle he'd taken out on his uncle's daughter. He's changed. He's a different person. At least that's what Hinata tells Sakura. And Sakura would believe it, if it weren't for the bastard actually having the guts to ask Hinata to /marry/ him only only a year after that. It would reunite the Hyuuga clan, it would help the village, and relations with related clans, and allies. Again, that's what Hinata would have her believe. But Sakura couldn't help shake the notion that the entire incident had been caused by her attraction to Naruto since early childhood. Neji was smitten with Hinata, no-one doubts that. And when he realized early on how deep her feelings ran, he decided that if he couldn't have her, then by god Naruto wasn't going to have her. /No-one/ was going to have her. And that sickens and angers Sakura like nothing else. They couldn't marry, not yet, anyways. Hinata wasn't of age, and there was other clan business for Hiashi to attend to before he could get to that, but it's ever present on Sakura's mind, because if there was only thing that fights for Hinata's loyalty, it's her clan, and she could potentially lose her forever, only allowed occasional visits to kunoichi turned housewife. Sakura grinds her teeth involuntarily. “S-Sakura-ch-chan?” Sakura snaps out of her rage-fueled fantasies of ripping Neji's genitalia off to see milky-white eyes flutter open, and a small smile on pale lips. And Sakura's nearly in tears, because to her, Hinata's stutter is the most beautiful thing she's ever heard. It's everything she can do not to fling herself into the Hyuuga's arms. She instead takes a pale hand into her own, gripping tightly. “Hey sweetie.” Sakura whispers in a low yet sugary voice she reserves only for Hinata. “How do you feel?” Hinata opens and closes her mouth several times, as if unable to form words correctly. “D-dizzy.” “Like always.” Sakura smiles, leaning over to plant a light kiss on Hinata's forehead. “W-what happened?” she murmurs more than says, contorting her face as if trying to retrive a memory. “I-I was talking to father, and I just, my chest felt some warm, and there was pain, and then everything was black.” “Sakura.. . ” Tsunade interrupts, placing a hand on Sakura's shoulder. “We need to talk. Now.” Sakura scowls, rubbing Hinata's hand lightly with promises to return before she follows Tsunade out of the room., shutting the door behind her. Tsunade leans up against the wall, obviously exhausted. There's a brief, awkward silence between pupil and master, and Sakura suddenly feels very drained. She wishes it could go back to how it was between her and Tsunade. That the could communicate like they did when she studied under her. /Maybe it will/ Sakura finds herself wondering. /Maybe I could convince her that-/ “I was speaking with Neji, when he brought her here.” /Nope/. Sakura's immediately defensive. “About what?” “About what Hinata had gone to ask her father about earlier, before she fell unconcious. ” “And that was?” Tsunade sighs, pinching the bridge of her nose. “About a baby.” “WHAT?” Sakura blurts out, and immediately regrets it as Tsunade shoots her a nasty look. “She was basically asking if the clan would allow her to have a child. Without being married. I don't know where she got that brilliant idea, but they basically told her they'd disown her if she got pregnant by an outsider.” Sakura feels her eye twitching. She knows full well where this is heading, and can't help but feel betrayed that her sensei was working against her, most likely with Neji, no less. “And?” “He didn't mention anymore, other than she passed out.” Tsunade deadpans. “In any case, Sakura, Hinata's body is too weak to go on anything higher than a b-rank mission right now, let alone carry a pregnancy to term.” The sannin clears her throat, turning on heel in the other direction, but pauses, and gives Sakura one last look. “I don't know what you two are planning Sakura, But if you two want a baby, you're going to have to be the one to do it.”While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
