Sorry it's been forever but I've been super busy with wedding plans and such. But I'm glad that I don't have this story on a schedule since it has been tricky to write. Thanks to moodysavage for being my Beta. Naruto tried to steel himself on the way over to the Hyuuga Law Firm office. But he was pretty sure he was failing. He hadn’t seen Neji since his college days and he would have liked to have kept it like that, but it seemed as though fate had other plans for him. His shoulders were tense and he hadn’t even confronted Neji yet. The blond knew he would have to make an appointment with his friend Haku to get a massage before this whole meeting was said and done. When Naruto felt the limo stop he schooled his features into a fake smile. He didn’t want to deal with Neji and had tried to tell Itachi that he was not needed. But his boss wouldn’t take no for an answer. After he had stepped out of the car, Naruto smoothed his suit out and grabbed his briefcase out of the limo. All of the papers that were needed today were in the case and Itachi had trusted him with them. Naruto couldn’t figure that one out but didn’t question his boss. If the man wanted him to be a pack mule, then Naruto wouldn’t complain because of his paycheck. The blond didn’t even glance at the building as they entered with Itachi in the front. He had never been to the Hyuuga law office, but he had no interest in being here. He just prayed to whatever god was listening that Neji wouldn’t try anything. He wanted this meeting to go as well as the previous meetings with the other clients. Itachi turned heads as the two men ventured deeper into the law firm. Of course Naruto couldn’t blame people for staring. Itachi was stunning and had a fierceness about him that drew you in. Naruto shook those thoughts out of his head. He was almost over his instant attraction to the other man. And the blond didn’t even think about dating since he had Konohamaru now. After a few minutes of silence in the elevators, they finally made their way to the Hyuuga’s office. Naruto mentally braced himself for whatever antics Neji would try to use to get the blond to talk to him. Naruto had made it clear years ago that he wanted nothing to do with Neji and the man had a hard time understanding that. Itachi spoke a few words with the secretary and they were led into the office. Naruto resisted the urge to take a deep breath. He straightened his spine and followed Itachi into a large office with a wonderful window view of the city. Naruto kept his gaze off the man that had hurt him all those years ago. He let his business mood take over and followed Itachi deeper into the office to greet Neji. Neji Hyuuga stood to greet Itachi first, shaking the other’s hand firmly. Naruto kept his gaze just to the right of Itachi so he wouldn’t have to look at Neji. Then Itachi brought attention to the blond. Naruto wanted to sink into the floor and never come back. “This is my personal assistant, Naruto Uzumaki. Naruto, this is Neji Hyuuga.” Itachi’s voice was smooth and rich. Naruto could feel his anger ebbing away. “Naruto and I are well acquainted.” Neji answered as he approached the other man. “I don’t want to be rude Mr. Hyuuga, but it’s Mr. Uzumaki.” Naruto set his piercing blue eyes on Neji, keeping his glare to minimum. “Of course, forgive me Naruto. May I make it up to you with dinner?” Neji’s voice was like honey and Naruto hated it. “I’m afraid I’ll have to decline Mr. Hyuuga. I have a child to take care of.” Naruto answered, his tone even. He wanted to be rude, but with Itachi present, the blond couldn’t speak his mind. If Itachi noticed any tension between the two men, he didn’t mention it. “Are you ready to discuss the contract Mr. Hyuuga?” Neji took his pale eyes off of Naruto and turned his attention back to Itachi. The two men moved towards the big mahogany desk and took their seats. Naruto followed and moved his chair a few inches away from the desk. The blond figured he would be better off away from Neji. He took the necessary papers out of the briefcase and handed them to Itachi. Of course the Uchiha knew everything that was in the stack of papers. And Naruto did too, but it was always better to have the hard copy on hand. Naruto tuned out Itachi and Neji. His boss would handle this part of the meeting. The blond was just there to determine if they were being cheated since the blond was so talented at reading people. Naruto knew they didn’t have to worry about the Hyuuga cheating them since the law firm had a long standing relationship with Itachi’s company. The blond let his mind wander back to when he had met Neji. The other man had been so charming and literally swept Naruto off his feet back in his sophomore year of college. The dark haired man was everything Naruto had wished for. And their relationship was always full of passion. They couldn’t get enough of one another. Naruto should have known that their relationship was too good to be true. They were out for their one year anniversary when a random woman had approached them. Naruto thought nothing of it since most women just tended to stare at Neji for a moment. But this woman didn’t walk away. Instead she just coolly asked Neji if he was done fooling around finding himself. Naruto had stared in shock as Neji stood up and apologized to the blond for deceiving him. The blond had then learned the cold hard truth and had stayed away from relationships and the Hyuuga ever since. The other man had tried to gain Naruto’s trust back, but the blond would have nothing to do with him. So it was a surreal feeling to be in the Hyuuga’s office and Neji acting like nothing bad had ever happened between them. Naruto brought himself out of his thoughts and concentrated on the discussion between the two prodigies. From the way the two talked, they were wrapping things up. Itachi shook Neji’s hand once again and then handed the papers back to Naruto. The blond secured them in his briefcase and stood. He wanted to stretch, but Neji’s gaze had strayed to him and Naruto was uncomfortable. The blond nodded to Itachi that he was ready to leave and his boss caught the meaning. Itachi said his goodbyes and told Neji to call him later so they could discuss the contract further if the other wished to do so. As Naruto followed Itachi out of the office, he felt a hand grab his arm and pull him back. Itachi never noticed and Naruto was stuck alone with Neji. The blond turned around and gave Neji his fiercest glare. His face showed that he was not in the mood to deal with Neji and the history he was about to dig up. “Mr. Hyuuga, please release me at once.” Naruto hissed out. “Naruto, please just stay and talk to me.” Neji’s voice held a small tone of pleading. “No, you lost that chance. We have nothing left to discuss.” The blond narrowed his eyes as he glared up at the Hyuuga. “We do Naruto! We have plenty to discuss!” Neji spat out as his grip tightened on the blonds’ arm. “I said no Neji. When are you going to respect my wishes?” Naruto seethed out, anger sparking in his blue eyes. Naruto could hear someone approaching from behind. The blond didn’t bother looking back. He could care less who it was. He had to get rid of Neji and catch up with Itachi. The blond tried to yank his arm free but he could not get it out of Neji’s grip. “What are you doing with my personal assistant Neji?” Itachi’s voice had never sounded so good to Naruto before. Neji didn’t answer as he let go of Naruto’s arm. The blond spared Neji one last glare before he took off. The Uchiha gave Neji a questioning look and then followed Naruto out of the Hyuuga building. Naruto kept his gaze away from Itachi as they got into the limo. He didn’t want to talk to Itachi in case his boss thought less of him because of what happened in the office. “I take it you and Neji have a history?” Itachi asked as Naruto settled down in his seat. Naruto sighed and stared out of the window. “Yes.” Itachi raised an eyebrow at the abnormally silent blond. “Would you care to elaborate? I need to know if I have to keep you separated.” “It’s a long story but I’ll give you the short one. We met in my sophomore year at college and we were inseparable. We fit so well together it was like we were soul mates. On our one year anniversary I found out that he was the Neji Hyuuga, heir to the Hyuuga clan since Hinata Hyuuga was disowned. But that wasn’t all he lied to me about. He was also getting married that summer since he would have graduated. I found out the hard way during our dinner when his fiancée confronted us.” Naruto let out a small breath. “Ten Ten is not shy. I bet she was difficult to deal with.” Itachi observed. “No, not really. She didn’t make a scene, just asked Neji if he was done fooling around. He left me there in the restaurant. He called me the next day and asked me if he could see me on the side. I’ve tried to keep our meetings professional, but he refuses to give up.” Naruto continued to stare out of the window and silence flooded the limo. “I’m glad you kept it professional. I will deal with Hyuuga over a conference call from now on until he can learn to control himself around you. I will not put you in unnecessary danger.” Itachi stated as he crossed his legs, his dark eyes trained on Naruto. Naruto turned his head to Itachi. “There is no reason to do that sir! We can meet in person with Mr. Hyuuga! I won’t let him corner me like that again.” Itachi raised his hand in the stop position. “I would rather do the phone conference than endanger a member of my staff. When I am sure that Neji will not bother you again I will schedule face to face meetings.” Naruto only nodded his head in agreement, not wanting to argue with Itachi. The blond was thankful that the man was understanding and was willing to do this. Of course it wasn’t a personal favor, but that was fine with Naruto. He was glad he had an understanding boss. ~`~ Naruto smiled at Sakura Haruno as he watched Konohamaru get ready to leave the day care. “How was he today?” “He’s still not interacting a lot with the other kids. It will more than likely take time. But he has been talking to Moegi and Udon. That’s a good sign. I hope they get in the same class next year.” Sakura answered as she flipped her pink hair out of her eyes. “I just hope that he won’t cut himself up. I’m not good at consoling him because I never had a family to lose.” Naruto’s eyes were sad. “You have a family, me and Sasuke. You can’t forget that! We’re the legendary Team Seven!” The woman’s green eyes glinted with excitement. Naruto laughed. “That’s true. I think I’ll call Sasuke ‘Daddy’ next time I see him.” Sakura burst out in giggles. “I so hope I’m there when you do that. I want to see his face.” “He might enjoy it since I won’t be calling him bastard.” Naruto had looked around before saying the last word. “That’s true!” Sakura giggled. “I’m ready Boss!” Konohamaru raised his voice to be heard over the pink haired woman’s giggles. Naruto grinned at the boy. “We’re heading out Sakura. I’ll see you tomorrow. Thanks for keeping him so late.” “It’s no problem! I enjoy having him here! It gets lonely sometimes when Lee has to travel.” “Well see you tomorrow morning!” Naruto said before turning around and leaving the house. Naruto silently helped Konohamaru into his car and made sure the kid was strapped in good. He was glad that the kid was old enough that he didn’t have to have a booster seat. But the blond made sure he kept Konohamaru in the back seat. The blond didn’t say anything as they pulled out of the driveway and pulled onto the main highway. The brunet was silent and it unnerved Naruto since the kid was always full of energy and always getting into some sort of trouble. “What do you want to do this weekend?” The blond asked as he looked into the rearview mirror. “Can we go visit Mom and Dad? And then go to the park?” Konohamaru answered in a small voice. Naruto held back a smile. He had gotten a response that time. When Naruto had asked Konohamaru the same question a few days ago, the kid had just shrugged and said whatever. It unnerved Naruto when the kid answered like that. “We can do that. You want to get ramen at Ichiraku’s?” “That would be great!” Konohamaru answered enthusiastically. Naruto answered with a smile of his own and continued the half hour drive to their home. He hated that he lived in the city while Sakura lived on the outskirts. But he couldn’t afford to rent any of the houses near her and he certainly didn’t want to use the money that Konohamaru received from the state. Naruto gave him a hundred dollars every month and put the rest into the bank for the kid. The rest of the ride was silent since Konohamaru had fallen asleep and Naruto took to being a careful driver in the night time traffic. Sometimes it was just as bad as day time traffic. He wasn’t sure why people were out so late at night. He would have preferred to be in bed right now as it was going on midnight. But Itachi needed him and the blond didn’t want to leave his boss with the insane amount of paperwork that seemed to have come from no where. Naruto blinked his eyes in relief as he finally parked his car in the garage. The trick now would be to wake Konohamaru up and get him to walk to the apartment. But that never happened. Naruto smiled as he opened the back passenger door and gathered the sleeping brunet into his arms and closed the door. He knew that raising a kid wasn’t a picnic, but Naruto wouldn’t trade Konohamaru for anything. It was a little tricky opening the apartment door, but Naruto managed. He took Konohamaru straight to his room and settled the kid in his bed. He didn’t bother to strip his clothes since he wore a sweat suit. The blond did remove the shoes and tucked Konohamaru in, kissing him on the head. Naruto stripped his clothes in the bathroom and changed into his pajamas while he was there. He wanted to relax a little before going to sleep. He made his way to the phone after he was done in the bathroom. He had talked Konohamaru into helping with the message machine. He listened carefully to the message Sasuke had left. The Uchiha wanted him to call back to schedule a day together. It was hard for the two to spend time together since Naruto worked all kinds of weird hours with Itachi. But Sasuke had asked and he actually had a weekend free and Naruto was glad. While he loved Konohamaru, the kid was only eight years old and the blond had to be careful and censor himself. Naruto sat down on his couch and turned the TV on. He had already set his alarm after he got up that morning so he wouldn’t have to worry about it now. He watched about ten minutes of the show that was on and then fell asleep with the remote in a loose grasp.
