Chapter Three
Jumped
His hands braced for the recoil of the Beretta as the bullet escaped the barrel. Keeping his eyes on his target, until the young, blond kid fell in defeat and lay motionless.
It had been a lucky shot, the kind he usually wouldn’t have had to rely on. Normally, he was in control of every situation he found himself. The idea of being in these circumstances had been unthinkable just twenty minutes ago.
*************
The drive to his home, after a dinner meeting with his father’s clients, proceeded much as it did every night, uneventful. He maneuvered through the curves of The Canyon with the grace and control provided by his Ferrari Italia. In a trance staring at the rain drops hitting his windshield and thoughts of the day being drowned out with the aide of Metallica, he was at ease. He enjoyed this part of the day, the peace was a requirement to keep sanity in his world.
His serenity broke as he reached for the phone bumping against his Ed Hardy jeans, as it vibrated across the seat. Frowning in annoyance once he saw the ID caller, Inuyasha. Sesshomaru was in no mood to be pestered by his annoying little brother tonight. He had plans that included a shower, and sleep, which left no room for stupid questions or childish problems. Hitting the ignore button, he threw the phone back on the seat and tried to push the curiosity of what Inuyasha wanted out of his head.
Refusing to let it bother him, he returned to task of thinking about nothing, resigning himself to the blaring music to clear his head. He’d heard this disc so many times that the words no longer caught his attention. Now it was useful as a tool, not for entertainment proposes. Guitars screamed, while drums beat rapidly, filling his head leaving room for nothing else.
As the Ferrari glided around another wide bend, immediately he caught the attention of something out of place snuggled tightly between trees on the right side of the road. A bright orange Nissan Skyline stuck out like a sore thumb. There weren’t many cars that traveled this road, and Sesshomaru knew most. The majority of them were luxury cars, with the exception of the trucks and vans normally driven by the help. This thing didn’t fit. With its bright color, low profile tires, and bigger than ever necessary spoiler, it looked as if it belong racing the streets of downtown. Not sitting completely dark on the side of a road it had no business being on.
His golden eyes frowned as he approached, trying to see through the tinted glass and get a look at the driver. Instead he caught the sight of a cigarette being flicked from a cracked window, as the car lit up.
High beams caught Sesshomaru off guard, blinding him momentarily, as the orange car jumped from its rest and flew at him.
He yanked the wheel to the left and slammed on the gas, barely missing Nissan. It was soon in the rearview mirror, keeping pace.
“Fuck,” he cursed as he tried pulling his senses back in order. What to do? Gripping the steering wheel, he pressed the accelerator. He knew these roads better, he just needed to put a little distance between them so he could set up for an attack. Then he would end this.
Trees whizzed by as the cars played follow the leader through The Canyon. A white flash, followed quickly by an orange one, keeping close through every turn.
He couldn’t shake it. This guy had to be crazy to follow Sesshomaru blindly through these curves. This wasn’t working. He couldn’t go any faster then he was without losing control, and he wasn’t the type to fail at maintaining control.
Sesshomaru pressed the button that lowered the roof and reached to his side and pulled out a large silver Glock out of his shoulder holster. Time to lose a tailgater.
Rain stung at his face and long silver hair whirled around catching in the wind, as the ragtop clicked into place. Turning slightly and leaning his right arm in between the headrests, he took aim using the rearview mirror as a guide. Knowing he didn’t stand much of a chance at a kill shot under these conditions, he could at least let his pursuer know he was serious and hopefully force them back.
Three shots escaped his gun, followed by the frantic squeal of tires.
A smirk crossed his lips as the Nissan skidded and fell behind. Well, that seemed to have worked.
*************
“Shit! Is everyone alright?” Naruto searched for acknowledgement that his two passengers were unharmed, watching as Sesshomaru pulled away.
“Yeah,” Kiba grunted from the backseat. He pulled his ashy colored hoodie off of his head and ruffled his fingers through his chocolate hair in frustration, adding more character to his bed head style. “But that prick won’t be as soon as I get my hands on him!” He flopped back against the seat and slipped is hand inside the overlarge pockets of his camo pants.
“You alright, Sasuke?” Naruto reached for the boy with raven hair in the passenger seat, only to have his hand pushed away.
“Fine, now watch where you’re going.” Sasuke replied, without so much as a glance at the driver. Focusing more on his own composer as his stiffened his back and smoothed wrinkles out his fine blue shirt and black slacks, he ignored the concern coming from the set of deep blue eyes watching him.
“Hpm,” Naruto regained his composer. He had to job to do, Gaara was counting on him, and he would get it done even if he had to suffer through Sasuke’s charming attitude.
That kid always had a way off pissing Naruto off. He was an ass that only thought of himself, and talk down to everyone he met, doing his best to make everyone else around him feel as bad as he did. Dick.
Naruto jerked the wheel harder then necessary to make it around the next turn and romped on the gas. This sent the tires spinning and kicked the ass of the car out from behind them as they swerved for a bit before Naruto regained control.
Sasuke braced himself against the dash before grabbing at the handle above his door, shooting Naruto that could kill. That was the fifth murderous look he received from the infuriating kid tonight. Naruto found that look pretty entertaining and had decided to make a new game out of trying to collect them. He called it, Piss Off the Prick. He just wasn’t sure who was winning.
“Oppsie, Sorry,” Naruto lied in a playful tone, before turning his attention to the damage inflicted on his car.
“That dick cracked my windshield. Why does everyone always shoot my car?” He ran a hand through his sunshine bright hair, before scratching at the base of his skull. A headache was already starting to form. He just wasn’t sure if the cause was the guy shooting at his car, or the guy shooting him dirty looks. He turned once again to the uptight kid gripping the ‘oh, shit’ handle, hanging on to it for dear life.
“Hey, aren’t you here for a reason? Aren’t you really good at something?” Naruto tapped his chin thoughtfully and rolled his eyes, as if trying hard to remember something important, “Something we could use right now? Oh yeah, that’s right!” He slapped his hands against his blue jean covered legs, as if he just had an amazing ‘ah, ha’ moment, before pointing a finger at Sasuke. “You’re supposed to be a real good shot, right? Well, you think you could take a break from pissing yourself and maybe, gee, I don’t know…. Shoot him!” He sent a jab at Sasuke arm and received a harder one in return, barely felt through the thick, rough, leather of his jacket.
“Don’t, Touch, Me.” Sasuke coal black eyes burned with despise as he pulled his Kimber from of his waistband holster. He rolled his window down, and pulled the collar of his shirt up and over his noise, protecting his face from the stinging drizzle. His witch locks outlined his face, as the top of his jet black hair was brush straight back leaving the rear spiny. Only his steady eyes were vulnerable as he waited for a shot.
Kiba sighed in relief as the tension between the two in the front seats was redirected where it should be, at the white Ferrari. “Damn, you guys fight like me and my brother,” he joked, hoping, but failing, to lighten the mood.
Naruto ignored Kiba’s banter as he focused on the task ahead, “Okay, I will get closer. Just try and shoot him before he shoots at us again.”
“Shut up. I know what I’m doing. After I take out the tires, you get him off the road.”
“Okay, let’s do this.” Naruto hit the gas, and felt the surge of adrenaline course through him as his car pulsed forward. Soon they were flying at an idiotic speed trying to catch to white blur ahead of them.
“Hell yes, this is awesome!” Driving through an unfamiliar canyon, in the rain, at night, trying to catch a guy with a much faster car, felt great. Blood pumped through him so fast he was afraid he might get a hard on from all the excitement. A ball of fear pushed tightly into his stomach reminding him this was real and he was alive. Without danger like this, what was the point of living?
The flight didn’t last long enough for Naruto, yet too long for Kiba and Sasuke according to the ghostly look they wore. It took less then a minute before they were back on the tail of their prey.
Sasuke folded his knees under him, gaining height for a better position, and leaned out the window. He pointed his gun and adjusted his aim, breathed deeply, and squeezed.
Pop! Pop! The sounds released by Sasuke’s pistol were soon followed by two more as the rear tires of the Ferrari blew. The Ferrari swerved as the driver fought to regain control, pulling from the right hand side, to all the way over into the left lane, barely managing to keep off the shoulder.
Naruto saw his chance and jumped on it. Within seconds, he was on the passenger side of the Ferrari matching speed and refusing the white car the room to slip away. The Nissan pressed into Sesshomaru’s car, guiding it forcefully, off the road, and attempting to pin it into the rocky embankment lining to shoulder.
Metal screamed and sparks flew as the cars met. Naruto’s breath caught in his throat and his blue eyes burned with excitement. His heart pounded rapidly, keeping pace with the drums of the others music, flowing into his car. Grinning ear to ear, unable to hide his joy, he desired to see the fear stricken expression of his target. He turned to face the man controlling the beaten car, but instead of fear, he saw something else.
Cold eyes and an alabaster, tranquil, face met his. Naruto’s heart halted as he watch in slow motion as the stone faced man lifted and aimed a really big, mother fucking, gun right at his head.
Just as Naruto’s smile dissipated, Sesshomaru’s grin returned.
Naruto yanked his car to the right and ducked just as a bullet blew through his window, shattering glass over the back of his head. Whizzing across the car before planting itself into the side of Sasuke’s headrest.
“Shit! Shit! Shit! That was intense! You alright, Sasuke?” Kiba’s concern faced received no answer, just a blank stare from a very confused kid.
Sasuke stared at the little hole in his headrest, then back at Kiba, before finally traveling to the driver.
Their eyes locked onto each other, both sets where wide with shock and faces flushed of all blood.
“What in the hell just happened?” Naruto whimpered, the question directed more to himself, then to Sasuke. Shaking some sense into himself, trying hard to fully understand what almost happened, he searched the glassy eyed face of his passenger. Sasuke stared back, almost as if waiting for Naruto to answer his own question. He looked panic stricken and terrified, unable to even speak, and it pissed Naruto off.
Rage filled him as his wits returned. “Fucking Asshole! You almost shot Sasuke!” He screamed. Gripping the wheel, and ignoring all common sense, he slammed his car into the Ferrari, forcing it off the road.
The Ferrari’s tires sent gravel shooting through the air as it careened in the embankment. Nearly avoiding the rocky hillside, the car jerked about, desperate for control as wheels spun in thick mud, making it impossible to avoid the large evergreen.
The Ferrari stopped in an instant as its grill wrapped around the base of the tree. Branches crashed down from above, smashing the hood and barely missing the driver.
Naruto watched the scene play out from his mirror before turning the next bend. He slammed on the brakes and flipped a 180, pointing his car back towards the white one.
The instant they came to a stop, Kiba leapt from the back and started his approach towards their prey, stopping when noticed he was alone. “You coming Naruto? This is our chance.” Readying himself, he pulled his hoodie over his head and zipped it up to his neck, leaving only brown eyes, and a red triangle tattoo on each cheek, visible.
“Sure, hold on.” Naruto raised a hand towards Kiba, pleading for a moment. Turning back into the car, he stared at his pale, raven haired, passenger. “Sasuke,” he whispered, gaining no response from the entranced teen, he repeated himself again, this time louder, “Sasuke!”
Blinking for the first time since the window smashed, Sasuke turned to Naruto, managing only a shaky, “Yeah.”
“Pull it together. I’m going with Kiba. Stay here, got that?”
“Yeah,” that seemed to be the only word in Sasuke’s vocabulary at the moment, as he continued to stare blankly at Naruto.
“Okay,” Naruto laid a reassuring hand on Sasuke’s shoulder giving it a slight squeeze, before opening his door and jumping out. He yanked off his black leather jacket and threw it on the floorboard at Sasuke’s feet. He didn’t need it right now. His whole body felt like it was overheating and the cool air felt refreshing as it blew through his thin black t-shirt and over his chest.
“We’ll be right back,” he assured Sasuke one last time before running over to meet Kiba. The two headed down and around the bend towards the tree where they left the Ferrari.
**********
Sesshomaru cupped his hands over his eyes, and pressed. Trying to process what was going on, and more importantly, contemplating how to gain control.
Surveying the situation, his sight stained red as blood ran down from a gash above his brow. What’s the damage? His car was fucked, his head bleeding, his eye sight sucked, and most importantly, his gun was gone.
Shit, where is it? Pushing away the airbag blocking his movement, he searched the seat and floorboard. Unable to find his Glock, he cussed at himself. What kind of an assassin drops his fucking gun? He knew better then to ever let it go, but here he was, defenseless as the sound of foot steps came closer.
Sesshomaru pulled himself up and over the driver’s door. Mud smeared over his once pure white, silk shirt. His rain soaked jeans clenched to his legs as he knelt down, pressing his back against the fender, biding his time.
The car shifted as someone jumped onto the hood right behind him. Sesshomaru pushed himself forward just as a fist came smashing down. He spun around and grabbed at it, pulling at the hooded figure while flipping the assailant over his shoulder and into the rocks.
The kid scream in pain as his back met with an outcrop of boulders on the road’s edge, before he rolled down and settling into the mud. Sesshomaru was above him in immediately, placing a leather oxford, onto the kid’s neck. Slowly he began to press down. His composer remained calm, and gaze intent as he felt the kid start to squirm under him. His ankle stung as boy clawed at him, trying desperately to remove the foot robbing his air.
Soon he began to thrash, wriggling side to side, doing whatever he could to free himself. Knocking against rocks and covering his blue jeans in mud as he breathing diminished. One hand pushing at the shoe, while the other yanked at his hoodie searching to revive any pressure and be rewarded with air.
Sesshomaru stared nonchalantly at the brunet haired boy as his deep brown eyes went glassy and he started to slow.
Brunet? No, wait a minute, the driver was a blond. Yeah, he was a blond, he was sure of it. Where the hell was the driver?
Just as that uncertainty entered Sesshomaru head, he felt a sharp pain fill his side as a bright yellow streak smashed into him, knocking him back.
Sesshomaru struggled to keep his balance, while he whirled a fist down at his attacker, landing a solid punch onto a shoulder. The attacker withdrew, rushing to the aide of his friend, leaving Sesshomaru stumbling and shaky.
Confusion set in as he attempted to gain control of his legs, fire burning from where the blond had jabbed him. What was going on? His stupid legs weren’t listening and his lower body grew numb as heat rolled down his side and over his hip. He reached down, only to be shocked at the feel of something far too warm and thick to be rain.
Blood.
************
Naruto help Kiba to his feet as he choked and coughed pulling in precious air and filling his lungs. After assuring his friend was relatively unharmed, Naruto returned his attention to the job at hand.
“Go back to the car. I got this.” Naruto ordered Kiba, redirecting his gaze back to staggering man.
“What? And let you have all the fun? Not a chance.” Kiba took a final quick cough to clear his airways, and then cracked his knuckles. He gave Naruto a determined nod, letting him know that he was still up for this and wasn’t going to leave his side.
They were back on their prey within seconds. Kiba landing a kick at the Sesshomaru knees, and Naruto connected a right jab into his gut. Sesshomaru tried to pull away, but the boys wouldn’t let him have room. No way were they going to let up, giving him a chance to gain ground on them once again. This Sesshomaru was as evil and heartless as Gaara had said and Naruto wasn’t going to be careless about this anymore.
Grunts of pain and anger filled the air of the rural road, as the boys took out all of their misguided anger toward the target they didn’t even know. Kicking and punching until the man could hardly stand. Doing their best, but not away successfully, to dodge the counter attacks. Labored breathing filled the air as adrenaline filled their veins.
Sesshomaru sent a right hook flying towards Kiba’s face, giving Naruto the opening he needed. He balled his fist and jabbed at Sesshomaru side, aiming for the precise spot where he’d ran his switchblade through. Sesshomaru winced in pain then fell to his hands and knees. Kiba sent one more, vengeful kick into the gut of the defeated man, earning himself the pleasing sound of a gasp and a cough filled with blood, before the man fell flat on his stomach, laying still.
Naruto held an arm across Kiba chest, signaling him to stop. They watch silently for a moment, waiting to see if the man still had any fight left in him. “Alright. Let’s get him to the car. Gaara said to bring him back alive if we could.”
Each hovering over one side and grabbing an arm, the boys pulled the tall, lanky, man up. They held him easily, as his feet barely dragged against the pavement, walking him towards the car. Worry availed over Naruto as the dead weight didn’t even make an attempt to make sound. Did they go too far? Was he dead already? Gaara would be pissed if they kicked him to death. Oh well, not much we can do about it now.
A few minutes after dragging the unconscious man over the slight upgrade of the road, they found themselves within yards of they car. Shifting all the man’s weight onto himself, Kiba bent lower, barely able to keep the taller man’s hands off the ground. He turned to his partner and nodded towards the car, in an unspoken way to have Naruto get the door.
Naruto took the hint and stepped away, heading to his Nissan, when something caught his ear. Both the boys snapped their heads around in search of the unmistakable sound of a car rumbling, coming from behind them. Someone was coming at a real inopportune moment. Naruto reached behind his back and pull out his Rugar from his waistband holster and pointed in the direction of the sound. Shit, this could get messy.
Suddenly a yelp came from beside him. Naruto whipped his head around and caught sight Kiba lying to the ground, cradling his stomach. Looking for they cause of Kiba’s distress Naruto once again found himself staring down the wrong end of this asshole’s gun. His arm felt like it was tied down with weight as he as he tried to quickly pull his own gun around to met with Sesshomaru’s.
A bang rung out, followed immediately follow by the squeal of tires as a new set of headlights shone down on them. A clunky rumbling of a beat up, old truck filled the deathly quite air as the world momentarily seemed to freeze.
Naruto wasn’t even sure who had made the shot, not until he realized he was falling. He felt a strange warmth overcome him as he looked into the stars above, slowly coming into view, as he descended backwards.
“Sorry, Gaara,” he apologized to his friend before closing his eyes to rest.
**********
Sesshomaru watched as the blond fell onto his back. Satisfied the boy wasn’t getting back up, he turned his gun to the brunet curled into the fetal position next to him. Sesshomaru bowed his head slightly before taking aim at the boy’s head, watching as the brown eyes filled with panic.
“Stop!” A voice demanded attention, screaming from the car.
Sesshomaru turned his head at met a gaze as cold and solid as his, and the barrel of a Kimber pointed directly at him.
“Just stop,” the raven hair kid directed, “Kiba, get Naruto. We’re leaving.” Sesshomaru kept his aim trained on Kiba as the boy scurried to his feet and over to Naruto, yanking the lifeless form over his shoulder and dragged him to the car.
Normally he wouldn’t allow a bunch of pricks to escape after an unprovoked assault as this, but right now he didn’t have much of a choice. This new kid was still fresh, having not have participated in the earlier fight, while Sesshomaru could hardly stand or see, and pain filled every inch of him. Though he had on is best poker face, he probably couldn’t beat this kid with the hand he was holding.
He would let them go for now, it wouldn’t be too hard to track these punks down. And next time, he would control how it would end.
******************
“Come on, hurry up.” Sasuke held his aim at Sesshomaru’s chest as he open the rear driver’s door. Kiba crawled into the back while pulling Naruto, all the while felling the burning sensation of a pistol being pointed at his head. Relief washed over him as the door shut and some feeling of safety filled him. He pulled Naruto unto his lap and press hard against his chest, trying to slow to blood spilling out of him.
Sasuke stood next to the driver’s door, moving cautiously as he opened it. Trying hard not to set Sesshomaru off since he had now decided to replace the absent target of Kiba’s head, with Sasuke’s.
“We are leaving.” He restated as he climbed behind the wheel, never dropping his aim. Cold eyes watch unemotionally as Sasuke started the car and carefully started to pull away, keeping their aim trained on each other until the orange Nissan past behind a blue Toyota.
As soon as he protected by the truck, Sasuke popped the clutch and hit the gas. Tires squealed as they flew past the wreckage of a white Ferrari and screamed towards town.

Hinata remained frozen, unsure of what she should do, and deciding she had no choice but to do nothing. Her body wouldn’t move. She was scared stiff. Hands still glued to her steering wheel, and eyes wide open, all she could do was watch.
Watch as the man stepped towards her. Her heart stopped, and breath hitched as she the tall, thin man, dress in designer clothes and covered in blood, aim his gun at her.
