There was a throbbing ache in his head, his eyes were too heavy to open no matter how much he tried getting them to. Not wanting to panic he began moving his fingers and toes to make sure they were still there and functioning. It was a heavy sluggish movement but they moved all the same. His senses coming back a little he could tell his whole body felt heavy and weak. Almost as if it would sink through whatever surface he was laying on. His hand pressed down feeling something soft beneath it. His first thought was that he was in a bed.
'But what bed, and where?' Trying to sit up, he could only manage to lift his head a bit before it fell back against the pillow. He groaned inwardly feeling that throb in his skull increase. Sensing someone else enter the area Sasuke tried opening his eyes again. They cracked just enough to see a blur of long dark hair. 'Oh no.' Thinking it was Orochimaru, the very person he'd tried escaping from, sent him into a nervous panic inside but he remained still on the surface. Eyes closed again he cursed himself for having gotten caught and dragged back to that snakes lair. He focused his other senses to keep alert, listening to the quiet movement of his captor walking the room, feet barely making a sound on the floor. As the person came closer to the bed Sasuke caught the scent of something fresh almost clean smelling, maybe a shampoo. Whatever the smell was, it definitely wasn't from his former mentor or the snakes creepy protege. Feeling a small bit of relief, Sasuke didn't let himself relax just yet. That only meant he was somewhere else with someone else and had no idea whom it was or how long he'd been there. "Finally awake, good." Sasuke tensed at the unfamiliar voice speaking out of nowhere. It was definitely male, low and smooth a voice that didn't match that draping hair he'd glimpsed before. Trying once again he forced his eyelids up, blinking hard until they remained open so he could see the man holding him prisoner. A hand gently touched his forehead and he attempted to flinch away from it. "Hn." Once the man moved away Sasuke could see him better though through a blur. He saw a tall figure with skin maybe paler than his own being curtained by long dark hair. Wearing a simple white tank and white drawstring pants to match. He looked frail almost but the muscles in his arms spoke differently. Looking at his face Sasuke thought this guys eyes didn't seem to be there but he knew that was crazy and figured it was from his own eyes being momentarily unfocused. Seeing the shinobi hitae-ate in place gave away that this boy was also a shinobi. "I wouldn't move too much just yet. You're wounds are still freshly healing and I'm pretty sure you're strength is gone for the time being." The smooth voice spoke again. Sasuke could hear the slight air of arrogance in his tone. Whomever this was must think Sasuke owed him for saving his life, if so he'd have another thing coming. Swallowing hard Sasuke tried wetting his dry throat but it didn't help much. "Wh-...who ar- y..u?" He immediately began coughing a bit after barely getting his words out and decided to shut up for now. The boy who Sasuke assumed was near his age stood over him, arms crossed and smirking. "I'm assuming you asked my name. Ironically we've had a similar conversation a few years ago, only in reverse." This person stopped talking seemingly waiting for Sasuke's memory of this incident to come back to him. While the Uchiha tried to recall the conversation his vision cleared more and he could see the speaker better. Those near invisible eyes watching him, the haughty way of speaking as if he were on a throne. His fuzzy mind just barely recalled years ago when he was still a genin going to the chuunin exam for the first time... a run in with another team, an introduction that didn't really happen. "You never did give me your name back then, Uchiha Sasuke, but its a well known name by all now." "Who are you?" Sasuke tried again voice a bit stronger but still sounding weaker than he'd like it to. He wasn't interested in tales from his past he wanted to know who this guy was, why he was here and when he could leave. There was a brief pause before the man replied. "...Hyuuga Neji." 'Hyuuga?' The name ran through his memory but so much had happened to him over the short years since he'd left Konoha it didn't really ring any bells. The Hyuuga briefly left the room while Sasuke tried to contemplate the name and returned shortly with a glass of water. "Its been a few years and we never really knew one another to begin with so I don't expect you to remember me. Lift" The request was stern and demanding, this guy was definitely of a noble class and then the name registered. He'd heard of the Hyuuga's plenty of times before, being rival clans of the Uchiha's. He'd met this boy at the chuunin exams and wanted to fight him but events had changed, for the better or worse Sasuke wasn't sure. His mind told him to stay put on the bed but his dry throat was screaming for moisture so he lifted his head as much as he could to take the offered drink, his arms felt too weak to be able to hold the glass on their own. Once the glass reached his mouth he drank it down quickly in hard gulps. His throat appreciating the cool liquid sliding down it. He emptied the contents and dropped his head back to the pillow. He really was tired and lacking energy. Neji placed the glass on the nightstand beside the bed. "I'll get you a refill in a minute." With his voice back to normal the sharingan user spoke trying to put as much of his own authority into his words as the other had. "Where the hell am I? and how did I get here?" "I found you a few miles outside of Konohagakure's border, you were pretty banged up nearly dead. I did what I could for you and brought you here, to my apartment. Why you are here, only you can answer that." Neji took the glass back out to the kitchen for a refill. Sasuke repeated the question to himself. 'Why am I here?' His head was still fuzzy and he couldn't recall all the details other than he was in a fight he was about to lose so he took off. The main thing he remembered was that he'd been running for awhile not sure where to or which direction. How he'd ended up in his former home village was merely a coincidence nothing more. 'Damnit!' The last place he'd ever wanted to be again was Konoha. At least not this soon, not with business unfinished. There were too many memories here too many people he didn't want to be around or see. They'd just get in the way or worse. Sasuke began to squirm trying to sit himself up and get out of the bed but he was finding it hard to completely lift his arms and legs. 'What the-?' His wrist and ankles were constricted having been tied down, Sasuke couldn't tell with what because the blanket covered him completely. Apparently this Hyuuga Neji wasn't as trusting or stupid as he'd thought considering he took in random strangers. "I wouldn't do that if I were you. I told you before you're still recovering it hasn't even been a full twenty-four hours since I brought you here." Sasuke glared at the teen as he entered the room, bowl and glass of water in hand. He set them down on the dresser while Sasuke continued to weakly pull at the bindings. "What did you do to me?" Sighing Neji stood at the foot of the bed, arms crossed and looking very serious. "I've tied you down with a special chakra absorbent wire." Neji leaned forward a bit to pull the blanket off Sasuke's body, only far enough to reveal his bare chest and something else interesting. Sasuke glared down at himself noticing the wire tapped down to various parts of his body. "Those wires are attached to your tenketsu points, vital ones. I have the main line of wire running along the floor and out the door so I can reach it at any time." "To do what?" He nearly growled. "I'll send my own chakra through to block yours, leaving you numb and unable to move or attack should you try anything. A little trick I picked up from battling one of Orochimaru's minions during our unfortunately failed mission to bring you back to the village." Sasuke was sending daggers through the others body with his eyes. "Just because I didn't want to watch you die doesn't mean I'm careless. You're still a rogue nin, and a dangerous one at that. Though I'm pretty sure I could handle myself against you I won't take the chance on you furthering your injuries trying to escape or pick fights." "You.." "You're in no condition to fight me and with that wire attached to your heart," The Hyuuga smirked. "I could kill you if I wanted to. So settle down and let me check your injuries." This only peeved Sasuke more than being stuck in the snobby Hyuuga's apartment in Konoha and tied down. The fact that he had to listen to the guy and couldn't do anything of his own free will made his blood boil. If only he wasn't so drained of chakra right now, he could use his sharingan on this bastard and get the hell out. It occurred to him then that waiting was all he needed to do, once he'd recovered enough he would make his move. The Hyuuga may be smart and have the upper hand for now but Sasuke would win in the end. "Make it quick." He muttered causing the Hyuuga to smirk again. Neji took a rag from the bowl of water giving it a squeeze before running it across Sasuke's head. It took everything in Sasuke's power not to jerk away from the touch. He hated being unable to care for himself, he'd become so used to it over the years after losing his clan. And to be trapped by a Hyuuga of all people. He knew their clans had been rivals in the past and that the Hyuuga's thought their selves to be superior. It made Sasuke sick and all the more determined to get away from this place. "I don't know what you think you'll gain by keeping me here." He spoke causing the other to pause in his movements. "I can't pay you back and I sure as hell won't owe you or your clan a thing." The Hyuuga's cocky smirk that had been mocking him since he'd waken returned. "Of course you don't owe me, I didn't expect you to." He moved on from wiping the sheen of sweat from his body to cleaning the wounds. "Then why?" Neji was contemplative a moment. "..I'm not sure myself. This might be the stupidest thing I've ever done but its done. Now be still." Having no other choice at the moment Sasuke complied and let his body be violated as his wounds were tended to. He winced every now and then as a certain spot was touched and still sore. Watching as the Hyuuga revealed his many cuts and bruises, he mentally willed his body to heal faster. 'Just wait it out Sasuke, he'll be off his guard sooner or later.' ............. Neji didn't expect his visitor to wake so soon. 'He must have better endurance than I thought.' Now that the teen was awake it was clear to Neji that things were going to be difficult. He could also tell that Sasuke wasn't going to talk about what happened to him openly. That was fine, Neji guessed, it wasn't really his business anyway but that didn't stop his curiosity on the matter. He'd bring it up casually when the Uchiha was in a better mood. He was healing nicely as well, so Neji quickly changed the bandages all the while trying to ignore the daggers being shot at him by his "patient". It was strange that Sasuke would think he owed Neji anything for this but then again that's usually how it works when you save someone's life. He wasn't sure himself why he went back to help the other in the woods, other than keeping a clear conscious. The other reason for rescuing the rogue nin, the one he'd spent all night denying, Neji didn't want to mention. Not to himself and especially not to the Uchiha. Sasuke remained surprisingly still and quiet as Neji continued to clean and rebandage him. The sharingan user also appeared to be studying him as he did so. Building questions that weren't being asked or forming opinions of Neji that wouldn't be voiced. It made the Hyuuga smirk knowing all thoughts the other formed of him were probably negative. It was a natural reaction considering he'd had him tied up and at his mercy. Neji wondered if Sasuke were planning an escape of some kind, waiting for the opportunity that he'd let his guard down. It made Neji smile inwardly knowing that that chance would never come. If the Hyuuga prodigy were anything in life it was prepared and watchful. It was in his blood literally to sense and see things then act appropriately for the matter. Once finished his task he threw the blanket back over the probably grateful Uchiha and began picking up his materials. He dropped the used bandages into the waste basket then tied it up for burning later. You can never be too careful when you're holding a dangerous runaway hostage, though Neji would hardly call it a hostage situation. He took the bowl of water back out to the sink placing it and the wet rag inside for dealing with later. He went back into his occupied bedroom and stood in the doorway. "Are you hungry?" He asked, Sasuke's face contorted. "Fine but you'll have to eat eventually. By force or willingly will be up to you." Just as Neji turned to leave Sasuke spoke up halting his movement. "Tell me something," Neji half turned letting the other know he was listening. "If you're from the Hyuuga clan why do you live alone? I thought all clans were stationed on specific property around the village." Turning fully Neji leaned against the door frame crossing his arms. "I've only lived here for a year. I chose to leave the compound when I became a jounin." "Why?" "Why, why?" Sasuke wasn't pleased by the smart retort. This made Neji smirk at having gotten to the other again. He was surprisingly easy to rile up for someone who acted so superior and uncaring. But the Uchiha was talking to him and that was a good thing. Neji reminded himself not to upset the other too much if he wanted to get any information of his own out of the teen. So he answered the question. "The head of the family and I have too many differences, we clash too much in our strained relationship. I couldn't take it anymore... so I got out as soon as I could. Which, in my opinion, wasn't soon enough." Neji wondered briefly if Sasuke were actually interested in this or just working an angle or looking for a weakness. It occurred to Neji just than that Sasuke was probably concerned about Neji turning him in or someone coming over to find him. "If you're worried about my contacting anyone or someone finding out that you're here, don't be. I seldom have guest and no one gets through my door without my inviting them in. I rarely, if at all, keep in contact with my clan, unless missions are involved. You should be safe for awhile." Sasuke appeared taken aback that Neji had figured out his plan so quickly. "Anything else you'd like to... know?" It was the Uchiha that smirked this time. "So you're not as perfect as you want people to think." "Hn. Just as I thought." Sasuke raised a brow to his statement. "You were forming negative opinions of me and you don't even know me yet." "And you weren't doing the same with me?" "No, not really. And just so you know, I hardly think of myself as "perfect". Should such a thing a exist, I know I'm far from it, as are you and many others. Having bad blood with relatives doesn't make me any less of a person or shinobi. I think you'd understand that more than anyone." Neji could tell the remark struck a bad chord with the Uchiha, he said nothing in return just averted his gaze to the covered window. All the curtains had been drawn once Neji had gotten home to avoid anyone accidently seeing the Uchiha inside, even if they were three stories high. After a moment passed Neji assumed Sasuke was wondering what time it was. He himself had lost track of it since bringing the other home. He checked quickly with his byakugan, seeing the sky still a rich blue. "Its still dark out, but nearing morning." Still no response. He took the others silence as a sign and turned to leave the room to fix his very late or early meal. He didn't close the door but turned the light off incase the Uchiha needed more sleep. Once out in the living room which was a few short steps from the bedroom, he activated his byakugan again to keep an eye on the other. As soon as his back was turned Sasuke began squirming, whether to free himself or attempt to get comfortable, Neji didn't know, but he stopped after a minute due to the pain of his injuries. Shaking his head Neji continued to the kitchenette, smiling, as best he could anyway, at the appreciation of the Uchiha's determination. No self respecting shinobi enjoyed being prisoner to another especially of the rival kind. Not only that but watching the other struggle amused Neji a little. Feeling that he wouldn't need the wire at the moment he left it dragging on the floor and focused on the task at hand. The way the apartment was set up- the kitchen area being off to the left of the front door, the living room in the center and the bedroom off to the right of that, it was a straight visual path- Neji knew Sasuke could see him in the kitchen from the bedroom. Hopefully this would entice the other to become hungry enough and want to eat something once he smelled the food. The Hyuuga meant what he'd said earlier, no matter what he wasn't going to let the other starve to death after having taken the chance on saving him from a cold wet demise in the first place. As he dumped the canned soup contents into a pot and turned the burner on he took a deep breath. It hadn't even been a full hour since the Uchiha woke and he was already exhausted of the mans attitude. The thought of ending this mess continued to creep up on him but something even stronger would immediately dismiss the idea. Shaking his head to once again dismiss those troubling thoughts he stirred the soup contents. ............. In the bedroom Sasuke stared up at the ceiling with an angry scowl. Trying to get free only proved to aggravate his sore body. He thought the whole thing was ridiculous and confusing as hell. Why would someone he didn't even know feel the need to keep him alive and hidden? Why not just turn him in. 'This guy has to have an angle.' Dropping his head he stared into the brightness of the kitchen watching the Hyuuga fixing tea. The other teen then turned off the stove top and went to a cupboard pulling out two bowls, then took a short walk over to a drawer for two spoons. 'Hn.' He watched Neji set the second bowl off to the side on the table. Apparently he knew Sasuke was watching because he made a gesture at the bowl as if saying it was for him, before starting in on his own food. Sasuke could feel his stomach's displeasure at being empty, smelling good food and not receiving it. He didn't know how much longer he could resist. 'I need to get out of here.' He tried again on pulling at the wires but the material was too strong and his body still too weak. His eyes followed the length of the wire running along the bedroom floor and out to the kitchen and into the Hyuuga's free hand. 'So you are being cautious.' An idea suddenly came to him on a way to move freely without the other being able to object. "Hey Hyuuga?" He called out, the other looked up in his direction, whether he could see the gesture in the dark room or not Sasuke motioned with his head for the other to come over. Putting his spoon down in the bowl and wiping his mouth with a napkin Neji stood and returned to the bedroom flipping the light on. "Finally hungry?" He said. "No, I need to use the bathroom." He spoke smugly. The momentary look of surprise and not knowing how to react expression on the Hyuuga's face was enough to make Sasuke laugh aloud but he didn't choosing to mimic one of Neji's smirks instead. "...Alright then." Neji replied after quickly recovering and returning his stoic mask. "Really? There's no catch?" The very smirk Sasuke had mimicked was plastered on the other teens face. "You know me so well for just a few short hours." Sasuke rolled his eyes. "You eat, you can go. Its that simple." Neji walks back out of the room and into the kitchen. It was Sasuke's turn to register momentary shock and not knowing how to respond to that. 'The Hyuuga is clever I'll give him that.' Neji returned shortly with a tray containing the two bowls and cups with a tea pot. He removed his own items and set them on the dresser along with the tea pot. Then placed the tray over Sasuke's lap. Sasuke eyes the offer defiantly. "I said I'm not hungry." "Its soup, good for your health and if you really need to use the rest room..." The Uchiha's frown deepened. "And how do you expect to me to eat tied up?" He growled out through clenched teeth. "Cranky when you haven't eaten huh?" The Hyuuga came around the bed and to Sasuke's surprise removed the wire cuff from his right wrist but not upper arm. "What are you doing?" He asked with suspicion. "If you're anything like what I think you are, you don't want some stranger feeding you like a child when you're perfectly capable of doing it on your own." Once again surprised by the others action the chidori user immediately lifted his arm and began to move the wrist around letting the blood circulate. "Now eat and don't try anything, we're still attached." Neji warned lifting the wire in his hand to let the other know he was serious. Apparently satisfied with his threat Neji took his own bowl from the dresser and sat in the arm chair that occupied the corner of the room diagonal from the bed. Sasuke eyed the soup suspiciously the action not going unnoticed by the Hyuuga. "Its not poisoned Sasuke. If I wanted to kill you I'd have done it when I found you in the woods. We have the same food from the same pot. You saw me making it." Neji stood and walked over dipping his spoon into Sasuke's bowl and eating the chunks of meat and vegetables from it. "There, now we'll both die slowly. Should I test your tea as well?" After a moments hesitation Sasuke figured he had no other choice and picked up his spoon. "Fine." With bitter dissatisfaction, at having been tricked, he ate quickly but carefully. His eyes not missing the pleased look trying to be hidden by the Hyuuga. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
