Alright stepping things up a bit in this chapter. But first, a moment for the reviewers.
sango_houshi: Thank you so much! I like this pairing and I've only seen Shino paired with either Neji or with Kiba before.
Blur: There are more chapters on the way now. And thank you so much for two amazing reviews! ^_^
Nejislady: I'm not sure how they're going to make out yet, but I'm pretty sure it'll be rather noteworthy. :)
Neko Izumi: Yeah, the wall of text was a problem. My html skills are lacking, but lucky me AFF had a section thinger for giving me the codes to fix that. And thanks for reading! Much appreciated!
msuzumaki: Awww, thank you! Don't worry too much about Neji, he gets his later. ^_~
Now, onto the story!
Two weeks had passed since Shino had left on an A class Anbu mission. Two weeks for Shikamaru to be left with his own thoughts and their half empty bed. He missed the Bug Nin. He hadn't thought he would miss the other nin so much. But as the had worn on and he wasn't sent on anything but day-trip missions, his keen mind began to run down the possibilities of what could have happened to his lover to keep him away from Konoha so long and none of them were very nice scenarios.
It was Sai who approached Shikamaru on day nineteen of Shino being away on a mission and asked the Shadow User why he was scowling at the clouds. And all Shikamaru had been able to do was turn and shrug at the other ninja, before returning to to looking towards the gates of Konoha and the clouds.
“Nara-san, have you asked Tsunade-san about the mission? Was it supposed to have been such a long one?” Sai asked.
Blinking slowly, Shikamaru sat up and looked at the other nin, really looked at him. His brilliant mind hadn't even come to that thought yet. He'd merely assumed the worst and then tried to convince himself that his Shino was just out on a long term mission. He hadn't considered asking Tsunade about it, figuring it was an Anbu thing and he wasn't up to that level yet, mostly because he didn't want that kind of extreme responsibility again, not after the whole 'Find Sasuke” mission he'd led and almost killed too many teammates in. “Is she in the tower?”
Sai nodded and rose from his seat at the picnic table the Nara had been laying on. He'd actually been sent by Tsunade to bring the Shadow Nin to her, but he wasn't supposed to tell the Nara that. He was just supposed to convince Shikamaru to go to the Hokage's office. Smiling internally he offered a hand to the other man as Shikamaru made his way off the tabletop.
Shikamaru was on his feet and gone to the Hokage's in a puff of smoke in mere seconds. For once in his life he was actually in a hurry and he didn't give a shit about who saw him moving in such haste.
Sai followed the other nin quickly, chuckling softly at having been what was likely to be the only person to see the fastest speed at which the other shinobi had ever moved.
The cell was dark again, blissfully. He knew the other had gotten away. Five Anbu. It had been a good team. Shino was proud to have been working with the others, even though he hadn't really known four of them. Tsunade had trusted him to lead the other two teams of foreign Anbu. Him and the last Uchiha. A half smile crossed his lips as he thought about the Uchiha. They had fought well together. It had made him feel just a bit guilty over having used the teleportation jutsu on the Sharigan user to get him out of the brawl. There were many other Aburame, but only one Uchiha left. After the flash of Sasuke's teleportation the other two sets of ninjas had flashed out. Shino had tried to run, to confuse their attackers, but the S-class they were after had caught him.
Shino didn't remember much after that. Not until he woke up in the tender care of these low class ninja. The strongest wasn't much past genin, but the S-class was their leader. He was the man in the cloak and hood that moved strangely, but was fast. Faster than Lee and his taijutsu. There were options available to him for possibly getting out of the situation alive, but judging by the fact that three maybe four ribs were bruised, if not broken, they weren't going to out right kill him, which meant the S-class wanted him alive. There was no known name for the rogue nin, but the group that had been following him called him Rabbit, for his ability to elude and burrow away. In his mind Shino went over his alternatives again. He could try and fight his way out and hope after the last few days with no food and little water that he had enough chakra left for his own teleportation, which was option A. There was the option of cuddling up to the black widow he kept in a special hollow in the side of his throat for his Anbu missions. Or there was the third option of waiting for a rescue, which rested on Sasuke and the foreign nin coming to his aid, after capturing the Rabbit.
The sound of something moving in the darkness made Shino tense and tune his senses in for any feeling of chakra. All he got was a weak pulse and then a hand touched his face, just before a candle flickered into light. He didn't say anything as the person, he couldn't tell if they were male or female through his two badly swollen black eyes, set about cleaning up his mostly nude form and washed the blood from him.
“He's going to make you suffer. He always makes people suffer first. He likes it. Pain. His. Others. Mine. Yours. You shouldn't have chased him. You're in the Lion's Den now.”
'Hmm, male.' Shino mused internally as the soft hands tended him. He was reconsidering the black widow. His bugs were mostly dormant now, resting inside him and waiting for his command. He was never happier that he had learned full control over them than he was now. Puberty had been hell. The boy had been talking to him some more, but he'd been zoned out making his plans and feeling for chakra. He at least had some new information on the Rabbit. This place he was kept was the Lion's Den, which meant the man must be calling himself Lion again, which had been listed in the file but was thought to be incorrect. When he had the rogue in custody and under Anbu guard in Konoha again, he was going to fix the file. A derisive snort left him even as he thought over fixing the file. If he got out alive he'd be trying to made amends with his Shadow before he bothered with something as silly as a file about a soon to be dead rogue nin. It was that thought came to him, that Shino came up with his brilliant plan. And it was as he was placing the details that something pierced his skin suddenly and seconds later he was unconscious.
Looking up at the ninja hanging in the chains, the medic-boy sighed and put out his candle. The syringe was tucked back in his pocket. It would heal the warrior nin and maybe, maybe if the man lived and healed, he would be freed from the Lion. Sighing, he slipped from the cell and returned to his regular duties, still praying for the ninja laying helpless in the dungeon...
AN: Yes, a cliffhanger. And an underhanded Tsunade. But really its going to be for the good. Tho, I warn you the next chapter maybe a bit more ...darkish. The Lion is going to try and squash a Bug.While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
