Chapter Three
Warning: Yaoi(boy x boy) don’t read if you don’t like.
AN: As I said before, A LOT of flash backs in this story. There are pretty much two stories in this fic 1) the main story (present day) and 2) the past(told through flashbacks). They are out of sequence(if you didn’t already know) and in no particular order. They are written depending on Naruto’s thoughts or emotions. So a lot of the past will reveal itself better as the story progresses. If anything in the story sticks out as weird of funky let me know I’m constantly revising and editing the chapters as I go along. Reviews at the end. Please enjoy this chapter. Edited chapter.

Chapter Three
“Do you ever regret being with me?” asked Naruto as he lay in bed, his back pressed against Sasuke‘s chest.
“What brought this on?” whispered Sasuke into Naruto’s neck.
“Sakura told me that she’s pregnant today.”
“That’s wonderful. We will have to get her and Lee something nice.” murmured Sasuke.
“You didn’t answer my question.” said Naruto. He felt Sasuke sigh and turned to look at his raven haired lover. “Do you regret that you can‘t revive your clan as long as you stay with me? Do you regret being with me?”
“Do I regret the annoying habit you have about hogging the covers? Do I regret the way you always fix ramen when its your turn to cook? Do I regret that you make me want to be a better person? Do I regret that you make me feel whole when I thought there was nothing left for me?” Sasuke asked, his obsidian colored eyes staring deep into Naruto’s sapphire colored ones.
“Not for a single minute.” he whispered and leaned down to kiss his lover, his lips savoring the slightly ramen flavored taste of Naruto. Naruto sighed into the kiss. It was warm and sweet. It demanded nothing and offered everything.
“Sasuke, promise you wont leave me.” Naruto murmured against the raven’s lips.
“I promise I will never leave you. The two of us will grow old together and be favorite uncles to Sakura’s children and grandchildren. Just think of all the stories we can tell them about their dobe uncle.” whispered Sasuke.
“Bastard.” laughed Naruto.
“But you did leave me, didn’t you, bastard.” murmured Naruto as he stood in front of the mirror staring at the reflection that stared back. He looked different than he had back then. Not so much in appearance but his eyes were older. They had lost their innocence. He had the eyes of someone that had seen far too much. Sighing, Naruto turned and walked into the bedroom. The past was all too enticing and there was too much to do today.
Today was the first day of classes. He was scheduled to teach a class of freshmen on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. His office hours would be on the remaining two unscheduled days of the week in the off chance that a student needed his help. He enjoyed teaching and now that he had gained Kyuubi’s blessing, he could enjoy the class even more since it would be his last.
Pulling on a pair of loose jeans and a bright orange button down shirt, Naruto walked out of the bedroom. This was the first time in forever that he’d felt the urge to dress in the colors of his youth. Sasuke had fussed about his taste in clothes nearly everyday. Yet, for some reason, he had never asked Naruto to change his style.
“Your fashion sense is abysmal. After all the years we have been together, one would think some of me would have rubbed off on you.” commented Sasuke as they strolled down the streets of Konoha.
“Hmph, look whose talking, this from the man with hair that looks like a duck’s butt.” growled Naruto as he adjusted the black and orange jacket he wore over his orange mesh shirt.
“Hn”
“Uzumaki Naruto wins the round!” shouted Naruto, stopping to punch a hand in the air in victory.
“You are such a dobe. You won’t ever change.” said Sasuke with a shake of his head before pulling Naruto close for a kiss. Naruto responded immediately. His mouth opened and Sasuke’s tongue slid in to initiate a dual with Naruto’s.
“And you will always be a teme.” purred Naruto in Sasuke’s ear, before giving it a small nip. A gasp left Sasuke’s lips at the slight sting.
“Naruto! Sasuke-kun! Stop making out in public and come inside.” called Sakura from the door to the restaurant, her enormous abdomen stating her status as an impending mother. Naruto broke away, raced towards his pink haired teammate and began to talk to her belly. Sasuke approached more slowly as he attempted to cool his ardor.
“I hope you don’t expect it to talk back.” smirked Sasuke.
“Bastard.”
“Watch your language!” yelled Sakura, bringing her fist down hard on Naruto’s head.
“Ouch, that hurt Sakura-chan.” whimpered Naruto, turning to looked accusingly at Sasuke as if to say, ‘Look what you made her do.’
“Come on, dobe. Let’s go inside before Lee has a fit and does something ‘youthful’.” laughed Sasuke. Naruto grinned at the sound of Sasuke’s laugh. Naruto felt he could die happy just listening to that laugh.
“I miss your laugh, teme.” said Naruto as he walked out the door. There was a lot of things he missed about Sasuke. He missed his scent, his breath, the heat from his skin, his way of making an entire language out of the sound ‘hn’. However, out of everything, he missed his laugh the most.
‘Hey, kit. Don’t start crying on your first day of class.’ Kyuubi growled to Naruto.
“Sorry, I was just remembering Sasuke’s laugh.” smiled Naruto sadly. Opening the door to the car, Naruto slid silently into the seat, his lean hands resting on the wheel.
‘Yea I remember that sound. Such a strange thing to hear an Uchiha laugh. You made his life happy. I don’t think he died with any regrets.’
“No, but I regret.” whispered Naruto as he started the engine and pulled the car out of the driveway. Both were quiet for several minutes before Kyuubi finally spoke.
‘What are you going to do with all those old scrolls of the ancient jutsus? When you die there will be no one left to keep them.’ asked Kyuubi, trying to keep Naruto grounded in the present. He had noticed Naruto spending more and more time lost in his memories.
“I’ll probably take them to Gamabunta. It’s been a while since I summoned that old toad. I’m sure he will care for them.” answered Naruto.
‘It’s a shame they will be lost.’
“The age of the shinobi is long gone.” said Naruto.
Naruto gasped as he came to ruins of Konoha. He had only been gone for a hundred and fifty years or so, but in that short time, the once great shinobi village of leaf had been wiped out. The village walls were nothing but rubble. The only building left completely standing was Hokage Tower.
“What the fuck happened.” whispered Naruto as he lifted his fingers to grasp at Sasuke‘s headband that he wore tied around his neck. As if his never ending pain from losing Sasuke wasn’t enough. Now he was faced with this sight.
In the end, Naruto couldn’t bear the memories any longer. Begging Tsunade, he gained her permission to leave Leaf to mourn Sasuke. He had left Konoha and summoned Gamabunta. The large boss toad took pity on the suffering human and carried him to the Toad Village to heal. When Naruto returned to Fire Country, the first place he ran to was Konoha only to find nothing left of it but dusty scrolls and crumbling buildings. Naruto walked until he came to a run down rice farm. An elderly man answered Naruto’s knock.
“What brings a young one like you out to these parts?” asked the old man as he settled on the steps with his pipe.
“I was just wandering the country and I came upon what looked like the remains of a huge town a few miles north of here deep in the forest.” said Naruto.
“Ah, that would be Konoha. Or what’s left of it anyway. That was one of the last shinobi villages to fall. It really was a shame.” said the old man.
“What happened?”
“Well, from what my mother told me. There was a power struggle for leadership. Battles broke out between villages. Soon there was nothing left on either side.” explained the old man.
“Where are the shinobi now?” asked Naruto, though he feared that he already knew the answer.
“Aren’t any shinobi any more. After the Shinobi War, the last of them went into hiding taking their scrolls and techniques with them. I haven’t seen one since I was a child.” said the old man, not noticing the stricken look that had washed over Naruto’s face. Naruto thanked the old man and returned to what remained of his home. For hours he walked the streets, the happy and sad memories washing over him. Gazing up at the weathered stone faces of the Hokages, Naruto felt the tears roll down his face.
‘Sasuke, what do I do now?’ he thought to himself as he fell to his knees and wept for what was lost. He had lost not only his lover but also the only way of life he had ever known. How would he find a purpose in this world where shinobi no longer existed?
Naruto pulled his car into one of the few open parking spots. Glancing at his watch he realized he only had ten minutes until his first class began. ‘Ha, now I know why Kakashi-sensei was always late. Memories make you lose track of time.’ Naruto thought to himself. Not like it would matter if he was late or not. There was an unspoken fifteen minute rule. If the professor wasn’t in the classroom after that time, class was canceled. Naruto would make it before that happened.
“Oh my god, did you see that dream walking towards the history building? I swear if I didn’t have class I would have gone and begged him to father my children.” said a female student to her friend as Naruto walked past. He snorted. College girls never changed.
A flash of raven hair entering the History building caused Naruto’s heart to stop. He took a few deep breaths. ‘Its not him.’ he chanted almost like a mantra. It wasn’t the first time that someone that resembled Sasuke had caught his attention. It always resulted in a deterioration of his mental state. The first time had happened a few months after he had returned from the Toad Village. It was the first of many. It still remained in his mind as the most painful.
“Here’s your food, doll.” said the waitress in the small restaurant as she placed a plate in front of him.
“Thanks” said Naruto. He began to eat, watching the comings and goings of the other customers. Kyuubi had been surprisingly silent lately. Naruto always referred to that as Kyuubi private time. He didn’t even want to think about what that fox did to pass the time in the cage. Naruto shuddered at the direction his mind was going.
A flash of blue-black hair passed by the window near where he was seated. Naruto flew from his seat and slapped money down before charging after the raven haired man
“Sasuke!” yelled Naruto.. Grabbing the shoulder, Naruto swung the man around to face him.
The face that was presented to him wasn’t Sasuke. It didn’t look anything like him. Naruto’s heart cracked.
“What do you want?” asked the man, slightly annoyed at being manhandled.
“I’m sorry, I thought you were someone else.” whispered Naruto.
“Hmph” said the man before jerking his arm from Naruto’s grip and making his way down the street. Naruto simply stood there. Tears tracked down his face and splattered on the dry ground. That night was the first time he had called forth a clone to take on Sasuke’s shape. The first of many times.
Keeping his steady pace, Naruto strode into the History building. Since he was running late, he decided to forgo stopping by his office in favor of simply going to class. As he turned the corner, he was floored at the sight that greeted his eyes. At least twenty students were crowded outside of his classroom.
“You bitch, move over I saw him first. I call dibs on him.” yelled a voice.
“I have just as much right to him as you do.” growled a second voice.
Correction, at least twenty man hungry wolves were outside his classroom. The sight was reminiscent of his days at the academy with the Sasuke followers. Thinking back, Naruto found the memory humorous. He truly pitied the boy to whom they were all lusting after. That following had been the bane of Sasuke’s existence.
“Excuse me, ladies” smiled Naruto as politely as he could. Twenty blood thirsty eyes turned his way and he couldn’t suppress the slight shudder that went through him at the rabid looks in their eyes.
“What do you want?” growled a short brunette, who appeared to be the ringleader of this mob.
“I just wanted to get in that classroom.”
“Well you will just have to wait. The professor hasn’t gotten here and I’m not giving up my spot in line for the waiting list. I have to be in the same class as…HIM.” she growled.
“I am the professor.” argued Naruto, slightly annoyed.
“Pfft, a likely story. You just want to take my spot.”
Naruto was sure that a vein was beginning to tic in his forehead. Taking a deep breath and silently telling himself it was against the law to kill her even though he could probably do it in such a way that no one would ever know it was him. He was a trained shinobi after all.
“Uzumaki-sensei?”
Naruto turned to see campus security had arrived. He sent a silent thank you to whomever had called them.
“Yes. It seems that the entrance to my classroom is blocked.”
The man laughed and proceeded to herd the mob of girls down the hall and out of the building. Naruto breathed a sight of relief and entered the classroom. His arms loaded with the required material, Naruto strode in the classroom only to catch his foot on the edge of the door. He crashed to the ground with a grunt, his books and papers flying everywhere. The class erupted into laughter. Naruto thumped his head on the ground. This day was getting better and better.
“Hn, what an idiot.”
Naruto felt his heart drop at the voice. Not just the voice but the words too. It was something Sasuke would say. ‘Its not him. Its not him’ the chant resumed. Naruto raised his eyes slowly from the ground. There sitting in the desk in front of where he lay was Sasuke. He felt as if the floor had dropped out from underneath him. It was Sasuke as he had looked at nineteen or twenty.
He stared at the boy that was looking at him with that little half smirk that Sasuke had trademarked. The hair was spiked up in back, identical to Sasuke. Even the skin was the exact pale cream color that made girls envy him.
The cackling of Kyuubi caused Naruto to stiffen. That fucking fox. He knew. He knew all along that this would happen.
“Are you going to lay on the floor all day?” asked Sasuke.
Naruto closed his eyes at the sound of the voice. This was the sound that he had never thought to hear again. It flowed over him like a warm blanket, soothing the tattered edges of his soul. He bit the inside of his cheek, feeling blood fill his mouth. Shivers were running through his body. His body didn’t want to listen to him. He couldn’t find his voice. How could he talk to the person that haunted his every waking moment if he didn’t have a voice?
“Are you an idiot?” asked Sasuke again.
Naruto slowly stood and glanced around the classroom, looking for something to center himself with. Oh, shit. If seeing Sasuke wasn’t enough, the entire room looked like his past had thrown up in it. Neji, Lee, Ten-Ten, Shino, Kiba, Hinata, Shikamaru, Ino, Choji, Sakura, Sai, Gaara, and Haku were all seated in various places throughout the room. Sakura and Ino were sending love sick glances towards Sasuke just like when he was a child. Hinata was blushing and Shikamaru looked nearly asleep. Lee was jumping up and down in ‘youthful’ vigor and Choji was eating from a bag of potato chips. Naruto felt the bottom completely drop out, only this time he was unconscious before he hit the floor.
“Sasuke.” whispered Naruto before darkness completely enveloped him.

*Thanks for the reviews*
hanyou-elf Thank you for the constructive review. I am constantly revising chapters so I like when ppl let me know when stuff sounds off. Also, any similarities to the movie are purely coincidental.
BumbleBee This chapter scares me the most because this is where Naruto meets Sasuke again. I am not sure if I did it justice but oh well.
good chaos Heh, I hope you didn’t hurt yourself falling out of your chair. I am glad you are enjoying it.
satterb Yes so many possibilities with this story. I almost cringe at the different routes I could take. Truthfully, the deciding factor is what makes my heart tingle the most and that’s what I decide to do. Keep reading.
SangoStar You will find I am a very fast updater. It usually only takes me 1-2 days to write a chapter and then I spend the next day or two fine tuning it.
Nickles I know I was nearly in tears when I wrote the first chapter. I almost wish someone else had wrote this so I could be the one reading it but I also wouldn’t trust ppl to actually finish it and that would piss me off even more.
Xzanayou Yep but with no memories of Naruto. They have to start all over. Will Naruto be able to love this Sasuke. Will this Sasuke open his heart to Naruto?
Nikana Yea I like that scene and I also like the scene in ch.2 when they are talking about remodeling. Hell I love all of the flash backs they are a story in themselves if you organize them. ^.~
SneakyfoxNaruto keep his cool? Well we will see. First two chapters were easy. Now I have to bring together what was broken. Pray for me.
sharingan swirlOMG OMG so glad you liked it. Thanks for the praise. That has to be the most enthusiastic review to date. Keep reading and I hope I live up to your expectations.
