Chapter 3:
Moving
“Are you
sure it’s smart to drink here?” Naruto asked suspiciously. They had stopped for
the night an hour ago and Sasuke had dug out a bottle of Sake from his
backpack. Naruto was sure Itachi was still very far away and was happy about a
few relaxing drinks, but he was very surprised when Sasuke opened another
bottle, clearly trying to get seriously drunk. And he was succeeding.
“Why
wouldn’t it be smart? You have the watch tonight, you promised. And we both
know Itachi is not close yet.” The pale man mumbled, leaning on his hand and
gulping another big gulp from his sake bottle.
Naruto
chuckled “You must trust me a lot to depend on me keeping us both safe while
you get drunk.”
Sasuke just
lifted the sake bottle and smirked.
“Maybe I’ve
developed a technique similar to Lee Rock’s drunken fist. Maybe I’m more
powerful than when I’m sober.” He slurred. Naruto laughed back and rolled his
eyes.
“What, you
don’t believe me? Care to try? Huh?” Sasuke got up and almost slipped on his
beddings, reaching for Naruto to keep his balance.
“No thanks.
Just drink up and go to sleep, okay?” Naruto smiled and helped the pale man
back to his sitting place.
“You just
think I’m going to hurt you.” Sasuke mumbled as he sat back down. Naruto shook
his head. “I’m not afraid of that.”
“Sure you
are, you’re weak.” Sasuke laughed a drunken laughter,
pointing his finger at Naruto. Suddenly he poked him on the chest.
“You
couldn’t beat me even if your damn Kyuubi came out and helped.”
“You might
be right.” Naruto smiled lightly and leaned backwards. Sasuke frowned, looking
insulted.
“Don’t give
up so easily, it’s not at all like you.”
Naruto
chuckled. “You don’t know the man I’ve grown into. I’m not that idiot anymore.”
His voice was slightly bitter and he turned his face down.
“Hn, has the Kyuubi taken a hold of you and finally made you
smart?” Sasuke laughed, reaching for Naruto’s cheek,
slowly stroking the whiskers that had become black and deep cuts onto his
cheeks, not like the faint marks they were when he was a kid. Naruto slapped
his hand away.
Sasuke
smirked. “No, you’re still Naruto. You’re eyes...” He looked at the blond under
his bangs, straight into his blue eyes. Naruto felt his heart beat faster and
nervously he shifted further away from the black gaze.
“My eyes what?” Naruto whispered. Sasuke smiled lightly, swaying softly and almost
falling on him. Naruto caught him at the last moment.
“They are
still blue as the sky.” The black haired ninja whispered, going limp on his
hands. Soon Naruto could hear him snore. He gave a long sigh and let the man
fall to his side on the ground.
Soon he
lifted Sasuke onto his arms and carried him onto his sleeping bag. The pale man
gave no sign of waking up even when he slowly and carefully lowered him down
and lifted the beddings to cover him, the nights were still cold. He stroked the mans black hair away from his face.
“Sasuke, I-“ He whispered, staring at his face, his heart thundering in
his chest.
He had come
after Sasuke to find more than just Itachi. He had to find out if the feeling
that had hunted him for years was real or if it was all his imagination and
would have faded when he found the other man.
It hadn’t
faded. It had become stronger than ever, so strong it was painful to be around
him.
He was
desperately, painfully in love.
~*~*~
Sasuke’s
head was really sore and his eyes were aching under his heavy lids. He groaned,
turning around away from the too bright sunlight that hit his eyes. He heard
footsteps from somewhere close by but didn’t want to open his eyes and check
who it was. He trusted Naruto to look after him. The realization made him sit
up and his eyes fly open. When had he ever trusted anyone like this? And now he
had been sleeping all night without any clue of what was happening around him,
sure that he was safe because Naruto was with him.
He could
hear the blond walking closer from behind and groaned. His head was pounding.
What the hell had he been thinking last night when he had decided to get drunk?
He hadn’t been drinking since leaving Orochimaru, before that it had been his
only escape. He should have known better. He rubbed at his eyes.
“Here” He
heard a low voice say and glanced up to see Naruto hovering over him with a big
bottle of fresh, cold water. The bottle was dripping, which proved that Naruto
had just gotten it from a river near by. Sasuke took the bottle and nodded a
thank you. Naruto smiled faintly, disappearing to pack their things and clean
the campsite.
~*~*~
His gaze
swept trough the distant plane. He could see trees everywhere he looked. The
forest where they were climbing into was huge. It didn’t seem to have an end.
And there somewhere was his brother.
Naruto let
out a nervous laughter behind his back and he had to turn to see what the dope
was laughing at now. Naruto looked at him, then pointing to the forest. “Wow,
that’s one huge forest. I know this is a shortcut but… are we really going in
there?”
“You’re the
one who said that you knew where we are going.” Sasuke pointed out, crossing
his arms on his chest.
Naruto
grinned nervously, stepping closer to him. “Right. So,
lets go. They are there.” He waved his hand in half a
circle and started walking. Sasuke wanted to roll his eyes but just snorted and
walked after him.
~*~*~
Naruto
whooped, throwing his vest to the crass. Then his shirt followed and after that
his shoes and pants. Soon he was running to the bond, stark naked.
Sasuke was
frozen in place, watching the man run and soon splash into the lake with a
crazy yell. Then the blond head was on the surface again, Naruto was grinning
madly.
“This feels
sooo good. Come on Sasuke. It’s been almost a week
since we had the bath in your bath
house.”
He went
underwater again and jumped back up, letting out another excited whoop. Sasuke
was trying his best to keep his cool, but he had to snigger to himself. The
blond could still act like a kid. He moved his eyes away and dropped his
backpack, removing his vest and shirt.
He started
hesitating when he reached for his pants. Naruto stopped his insane jumping for
a moment and looked at him, then started to make his way back to the shore.
Sasuke sighed from relief. He could bath alone when the blond had gone
somewhere else.
But he
couldn’t have been mistaking more. Naruto walked right up to him and without a
warning, reached for his arm, starting to drag him towards the lake. Sasuke
yelled. “Naruto, wait!”
“You looked
so scared that I thought I would give you a hand” Naruto laughed. Sasuke
stopped and fought against the laughing blond. He was about to hit Naruto off but
realized that he didn’t want to risk on hurting him. When his feet touched the
cold water, he snapped back to reality and yanked his arm off from Naruto.
“I have my
clothes on.” He huffed as Naruto laughed at him. “Well, take them off if you
don’t want to get them wet.” He reached for Sasuke’s
pants before the man could stop him. Sasuke felt like his brains were
overheating. Naruto was removing his
pants. He could only stand there as the blond pulled down his pants and
lifted his legs to get his shoes and the pants off. Naruto laughed again and
glanced up, sniggering. “You’re such a baby. How do you usually take care of
yourself?”
“I usually
bath alone.” Sasuke snapped back, kicking the pants off and stepped hastily
into the water. The grinning Naruto followed him. “So, it’s not the first time
we’ve taken a bath together.”
“It’s still
different.”
“Why?” The
blond kept laughing, falling into the water on his back and shaking his head
like a dog. Sasuke shivered, not wanting to go further in. The water was
freezing.
“It just
is!” Sasuke snapped, sure Naruto wouldn’t mind him
anymore since he was so concentrated splashing the water. The blond stopped and
stood up in the water. The water droplets gleamed on his skin, slowly falling
down the tanned, muscular body. Sasuke’s eyes froze
to his hardened nipples and felt how his lower apartment was waking up. Not good!
He turned
his eyes away from the tousled blonde and almost ran into the cold water.
Naruto had a strange, questioning look on his face, but he said nothing as
Sasuke dived in. As he surfaced, Naruto was grinning again.
“I told you
it would feel good.”
“It’s too
cold.”
“I can warm
you up if you insist.” Naruto said, grinning and swimming closer. Sasuke
blinked, then splashed away furiously. “No, I- I’m
fine.” He said, turning his back on the blond.
Naruto
sniggered and turned around to go closer to the beach. Though he had to admit
he was disappointed. Sasuke glanced at him just as Naruto looked back and their
eyes met. Both men stayed quiet and kept the eye contact for a long time before
Sasuke finally turned his eyes and dove underwater, then swimming closer to the
shore.
Naruto got
out of the water, searching for his towel from his messy backpack. Sasuke
couldn’t help but stare at him, his face half hidden under water. The blond
looked so delicious, so good and so beautiful, he
wanted to ask Naruto to come back into the water. But instead he shook his head
and walked out of the water and got his clothes, putting them on even when his
skin was still wet and cold. At least he would stay fresh for a little longer.
~*~*~
He was
really cold. Freezing, in fact. Shivers ran down his
spine as he tried to curl tighter into his sleeping back. The fire was
crackling next to him, but seemed to give no heat. He had even tried a ninjutsu to warm himself up earlier in the night, but had
only succeeded in making his skin heat up momentarily and flushing deep red.
Naruto had
laughed so hard he had fallen down when he noticed Sasuke had turned into a
tomato. He had shut the blond up by throwing a chunk of dirt on his face. The
blond had almost answered with the same, but Sasuke had activated his sharingan and glared at him lethally, which had ended into
Naruto walking away and still pouting by the lake.
Sasuke was
sure he would not sleep the whole night and would wake up sick if he didn’t get
up right now and make himself warm by running for a while. As idiotic it would
seem for Naruto and as tired he was. He shook the warm sleeping bag away and
pulled on another thick sweater and his shoes. He stood up and headed towards
the trees.
He decided
to go look for Naruto and headed for the lake. It took him only a few moments
to get there by tree jumping. He circled to the other side of the lake,
avoiding to be seen and stopping when he had a good view to the lake and to
Naruto. The blond was staring into the water with a thoughtful expression on
his face.
Suddenly
Naruto lifted his head and stared right into his eyes. “Come down from there.”
He yelled loudly, the water carrying the sound clearly into his ears. He felt
slightly embarrassed, but circled around the lake, landing close to Naruto and
walking to him.
“Why were
you spying me from a tree?” Naruto asked quietly. Sasuke snorted. “I was on my
way to… it’s none of your business.”
“You’re
still just as stubborn and proud as you always were. Why can’t you just tell
what you’re really thinking?” The blond sighed, scratching his hair tiredly.
Sasuke was quiet for a while, but then sat next to him, hiding his hands into
his sweater. “I was cold.”
“See, that
wasn’t so hard.” Naruto turned to look at him, smiling warmly. Sasuke just
glared at him, still feeling really cold. Suddenly a chill shook his body and
Naruto frowned.
“Damn, you
weren’t kidding about that. You caught a cold from the swimming?”
Sasuke
nodded, folding his hands around his legs, leaning his chin on his knees.
Suddenly Naruto’s arm was around his shoulders and
pulling him closer. Sasuke almost fell against him with shock. “Stop that!” He
snapped, pushing Naruto away.
“I’m warm,
you’re cold.” The blond reasoned, sitting closer to him and hugging him
tightly. Sasuke glared at him lethally, but it seemed his lethal glare was
quickly loosing its effect towards Naruto and he was really too tired to
activate the sharingan. Besides, the warm arms around
him felt kind of nice.
They sat
there in quiet for a long time, listening to the sounds of the forest around.
Sasuke was finally starting to feel slightly warm and also falling asleep.
Naruto was strangely quiet. He wasn’t used to this,
the blond had never been a quiet one. Sasuke coughed just to break the silence.
The cough made Naruto squeeze him tighter.
“You still
cold?” he whispered, puffing hot air against Sasuke’s
cheek. He was so close. Sasuke shook his head and Naruto let his arms loosen.
In an instant Sasuke reached for his arm and kept it around him, not letting
him go. Naruto
froze, so did Sasuke. His brains were sending him alarm signals, but he refused
to listen.
“Let’s just
stay like this for a while” The black haired man whispered very softly,
squeezing Naruto’s hand. Naruto said nothing, but
leaned his face against Sasuke’s neck.
~*~*~
“Sasuke” He
woke as his name was called. Then he jumped up with alarm “What?” He looked
around.
They were
still by the lake, it was still night and Naruto was still sitting next to him.
He stared down at the blond.
“You fell
asleep” Naruto chuckled, offering his hand. Sasuke pulled him up.
“We should
go to sleep.” He mumbled, starting to walk towards their camp. Naruto followed
close behind.
The fire
was almost gone and he added some wood to it as soon as they got there, he
didn’t want to freeze again. He sat on his sleeping bag, pulling it over his
shoulders. The fabric felt cold and suddenly he felt very alone. He stared at
Naruto as the man prepared to go to sleep, putting away his things and setting
up his sleeping bag.
Naruto
walked close to him and dropped his sleeping back next to his. Sasuke stared at
him, feeling nervous, but not ready to question the blond’s
actions. He usually chose to sleep on the other side of the fire.
Naruto sat
down next to him, pulling the cover on himself and curling under it so his face
was close to Sasuke’s. He looked into his coal black
eyes and smiled. “Good night.” he whispered and Sasuke answered back
automatically. He stared at the blond, unable to close his eyes even as tired
as he was.
Suddenly Naruto’s hand reached for his hair and mussed it. Sasuke
stopped breathing.
“Sasuke,
why haven’t you still asked anything from me about my life and how I am?”
Naruto whispered raggedly. “I can see it from you that you care about me even a
bit. But… why? “ He curled
the black hair around his finger.
Slowly Sasuke’s hand moved toward Naruto’s.
As his fingers touched Naruto’s callused ones, the
blond flinched with surprise.
“I can’t
get attached.” Sasuke whispered. “We are going to fight Itachi. Anything else
is a distraction.” he added, squeezing his eyes shut and trying to keep his
voice collected. Naruto stroked his fingers with his own.
“What will
you do after the fight?”
“Who knows if there is an after.”
“There is.”
“How can
you tell? It’s Itachi we are
against.”
“I just
can.”
They fell
quiet for a moment. Then Sasuke spoke again, with such a quiet voice he
couldn’t be sure Naruto would hear him.
“Why did
you really come for me?”
“Because I needed you.”
“You mean
you needed my help.”
“I needed you. I need you.”
“What for?”
“Because
you’re Sasuke and nobody can take your place.” Naruto answered, suddenly
yanking his hand away and turning his back to him. Sasuke stared into the fire
with surprised eyes. He sat up and turned to look at Naruto.
“I think we
should talk about this.”
“You think we should talk? That’s the
first.”
“Why are
you angry with me?”
“Why? Why
am I angry with you? Why do you think?”
“Well, the
obvious reason I understand, but that was long ago. A lot of things have
happened after that.”
“Yes, lot
of things, which neither of us have talked about. The only thing I have managed
to dig out of you was the fact that you’ve been raped. And you know nothing about me!” The blond was yelling now,
sitting up to stare into Sasuke’s eyes.
“Do you
think I wanted you to know that?” Sasuke yelled back.
“Of course
not, but you refuse to tell anything else.”
“There is
nothing else! I practised my techniques to revenge and prepared to give my body
to him, that’s what my life was.”
Naruto’s
anger seemed to melt away in a second. He shook his head. “Why did you leave?”
“I’m not
going to talk about this anymore. I left, that’s the fact and no talk is going
to change that.”
“Did you
even once think about me after that?” Naruto asked, his blue eyes wide and
bright in the light of the fire..
“Every night.” Sasuke answered before he had time to think what he was saying. As the
words got out of his mouth, his eyes widened and he flinched. Naruto was
staring at him with awe.
“I mean…”
Sasuke started, but realized that nothing he would say,
would change what he had admitted. Naruto was leaning closer. His expression
was painful.
“I’m sorry
I didn’t come for you earlier.”
“That would
have changed nothing. I was determined to get what I wanted at any cost. I
would have driven you away.”
“Why didn’t
you drive me away now?”
Sasuke
couldn’t answer, instead he turned his face away, feeling Naruto’s
fingers stroke his hair again.
“Let’s just
sleep, okay?” He whispered, completely exhausted. He couldn’t talk about this more, he had already let Naruto too deep into his soul.
He glanced
at Naruto to see the blond smiling a sad, heart warming smile. “As long as you
promise not to shut me out again.” he said but didn’t wait for an answer. He
pulled the cover on his head and Sasuke could hear a loud snore in a little
moment.
He stared
at the starlit sky for a long time, thinking about everything that had happened
since Naruto had pushed his way back into his life. It was slightly disturbing
to realize that he was on this trip because he wanted to travel with Naruto and
he was not looking forward on finding
and fighting Itachi.
He was
actually fearful about that day, not because he was scared of Itachi, but
because he was afraid of loosing Naruto again.
He turned
so he could see Naruto’s form under the cover, the
thick fabric rising and dropping as the man breathed. Sasuke stared at him as
long as he could keep his eyes open, finally falling into a restful sleep.
~*~*~
It had been
over a week after their serious nightly talk. The days had been quiet and the
nights were spent sleeping. They travelled with speed, following Naruto’s instinct that still told that they were on the
right track.
They had
not been able to rest much during the week and had decided to find a safe place
to spend at least one more safe night before the danger was too close for
sleeping. They were already taking turns at guarding during the nights and
being very careful when travelling during the day. Now they were planning on
chancing the routine and starting to travel during night and resting during
day, so they would be harder to see approaching.
Naruto was
quieter than ever. Sasuke had never thought the blond could be this quiet, but
he was surprising him constantly. He had finally realized that Naruto had also
grown a brain, he was smarter than he had been when he was younger, or then he
had always been smart but just lacked the ability to use his brain before.
They had
not talked much, but the little conversations they went trough, told Sasuke
that Naruto was well prepared for their meeting with his big brother. The man
seemed fearless and determined, but still could hold his spirit high. Sasuke
hoped he would have been able to do that too, but he was soon sinking into
depression and being more and more moody the closer they got to fulfil his
destiny. Just a few weeks or days and he would…
He would
what? Get killed? Watch Itachi kill Naruto? They would both die? He couldn’t
see a happy ending in this and the more he thought about it, he felt scared,
for Naruto. He wanted to keep the blond safe and was seriously planning on
leaving him behind and finding Itachi alone, but he couldn’t. They had made
this far because of Naruto’s incredible natural
demonic senses and alone he could do nothing.
So, he had
to settle for this arrangement, as unhappy as it made him. They would rest in
this place for one whole day and then continue the trip after that, when the
darkness would fall to cover them. Naruto was signing him to follow,
he had apparently found the perfect place for their camp. He followed the blond
without showing any of the churning emotions that went trough him mind.
He couldn’t
admit it to even himself, but he had started to enjoy his time with his friend.
They had formed a pattern of action that seemed to perfectly suit both of them,
accepting each others quirks as part of their personality that wouldn’t change.
They were calling each other with names with ease again, without fearing of
making each other mad and Sasuke had slowly gotten used to Naruto touching him,
even when nobody except the abusing Orochimaru had touched him since his family
was killed.
Naruto
shouted loudly at him and whacked him behind the head as he finally landed next
to him into a small crook in the river. This would be a perfect campsite and
they wouldn’t have to fear anyone seeing them. He just sighed heavily as the
blond started to babble animatedly. He dropped his backpack to the ground and
got ready to find some food for the night.
~*~*~
Sasuke’s
food was almost burning, but he refused to get up and get it off the fire, it
was just too much work and he was too tired and on a bad mood. He stared at the
piece of meat as it slowly turned black. Naruto was glaring at him, he could
see from the corner of his eye, but ignored him.
Finally the
blond jumped up and saved his food, tossing it to the ground. Naruto gave a
painful yelp when his fingers touched it. He turned his face to glare at Sasuke
some more.
“There,
happy now?”
“Hn.” Sasuke answered, slowly reaching for the meat
and lifting it carefully up with a kunai. Naruto rolled his eyes. “Big baby.”
Sasuke
waited a while before daring to taste if the meat had cooled enough so he could
eat it. Naruto was already cooking his second portion of ramen and grinning
like a madman. Sasuke turned his face away as the blond started to slurp the
ramen down and stared at the blackened meat for a moment, finally starting to
eat, careful not to mess his fingers in the process. It would definitely be a
bother to get up and wash his hands after this.
“Are you
finally going to tell me what you’re going to be doing after this?” Naruto
asked. He was feeling talkative and was getting irritated with Sasuke’s quiet habits on being… quiet. Sasuke glanced at
him, looking bored and hiding the fear the question caused in him.
“Sleeping.”
“Aaaargh! I mean after this mission. After
we kill Itachi.”
Sasuke
stopped eating and stared at the piece of meat in his fingers. His pinkie had
grease in it, damn. And why the hell was Naruto asking about that again. Didn’t
the blond get it?
“I don’t
want to talk about it, there is no time after that for
me.”
“Why?”
Sasuke was
getting pissed. He didn’t want to say it out loud to the idiot if he didn’t get
it himself. It could get his spirit down and that wouldn’t be good. He was…
cheering Sasuke up.
Getting
killed wouldn’t be a good plan for the future, but that would be what would happen.
“Didn’t you
learn from the last time I said that? I mean it when I say I don’t want to talk
about it.”
Naruto
glared at him, then huffed. “What, you’re planning on
being someone’s sex slave again?” He was brooding. He knew that subject was
tough for Sasuke to handle, but he had to leave it to the past and cheer up
already, and besides, he wanted to know more about what ran trough Sasuke’s mind, the man was too quiet.
Sasuke
stared back, then smirked cockily. “Yeah,
yours.”
That shut
Naruto up. He blinked and stared at Sasuke as a deep blush spread onto his
cheeks. Sasuke grinned more wickedly.
Naruto
turned his head away for a second and when he turned back, he had his most foxy
grin on his face. “I’m going to make sure you keep that promise.”
Then the
blond was walking away with his cup of ramen in hand. Sasuke stared at his
back, dropping his meat to the sandy ground accidently.
“Shit!”
~*~*~
When Naruto
came back from the washing trip to the river, Sasuke was already asleep. He
rolled around onto his back when Naruto tickled his ear, but didn’t wake up.
Naruto stared at him, brooding. This might be the last real chance for them to
talk and spend time together and Sasuke choose to spend it sleeping?
Yeah, they
needed rest and strength, but come on, there was enough time for that tomorrow
before travelling again. He sighed and stood up, staring to the darkness around
and wondering how he could spend his time. Then again, if he would sleep now
too, he could spend the whole day tomorrow with Sasuke and he wouldn’t be
tired; a good plan.
He sat back
down and rolled onto his back on his sleeping bag. It was a warm night and the
stars were bright. Suddenly he didn’t feel at all tired. He glanced at Sasuke
and hoped the man would be awake with him, it was so beautiful here, he should
see it too. Sasuke missed so much of these little things with his brooding and
because his obsession with the damn revenge.
At least
that would soon be behind. Then they could actually start living.
He hoped
Sakura was safe. He knew it wasn’t the best decision to leave Sakura in the
mercy of Itachi while he went to look for Sasuke, but he really couldn’t regret
his decision, even if it meant Sakura’s life.
Okay, he
felt horrible. But life was about making sacrifices and this one he had to
make, no matter the cause.
Maybe he
was the one with the obsession.
He woke
from his thoughts as he heard a muffled whimper coming from Sasuke’s
side. He turned quickly to see the man hiding behind his arms as he lay on his
side. His legs were curled up against his stomach and he was making suffocated
little voices as he tossed around. Another nightmare?
Without
thinking about it further, he sat up and extended his arm to touch Sasuke. The
man flinched under his touch but didn’t wake up. An angry “no” could be heard
under his breath and he squeezed his eyes closed tighter. Naruto frowned and
shook him harder.
Sasuke
bounced up, reaching for Naruto’s neck, pressing him
against the ground. He was all over him in a second, strangling him firmly with
both hands. Déjà vu.
Naruto
reached for his shoulders and gave a squeeze, hoping the man would wake up
finally. Sasuke blinked once and then stared at him with rage in his red eyes.
The sharingan was activated.
Naruto
yelped and tried not to stare into his eyes, still squeezing his shoulders
tightly. “Sasuke, wake up, you’re trying to kill me again!” He yelled as loudly
as he could from the strangling hands on his throat. Sasuke’s
eyes widened and he fell backwards. He would have fallen on his back if Naruto
wouldn’t have caught him.
Sasuke
couldn’t stop shaking as he sat between Naruto’s
legs. Naruto held him still and stared worriedly into his red eyes.
“Are you
okay?” He asked quietly and made Sasuke finally to look at him. “I don’t like
it when you see me like this?”
“Like what?
You just had a nightmare.”
“I’m weak.”
Naruto
snorted. “Nightmares make you weak? Oh come on, that’s stupid.”
Sasuke
glared at him, finally calming down. The shaking was easing down and slowly he
slumped against Naruto, leaning his forehead against the strong shoulder.
Naruto froze.
“I don’t
really mind- if it’s you.” He whispered, rubbing his face against his black
t-shirt. Naruto blushed slightly. Sasuke must still be asleep. He didn’t know
what to say back, but he didn’t have to, Sasuke continued talking with his
calm, cold voice.
“You’ve
seen the worst of me and still you’re here. I betrayed you and still you came
for me. I don’t understand you Uzumaki Naruto, I
never did. You are a strange man.”
Naruto
chuckled, scratching at his neck nervously. “Yeah, I’ve always been strange.”
Sasuke lifted his face and smiled softly. Naruto’s
heart started to drum so loudly he was sure Sasuke could hear it too. Oh gods, that smile.
“Don’t ever
change. Okay? No matter what, be yourself.” Sasuke said, nuzzling his neck with
his nose and leaning against his body.
Naruto’s
face was bright red and still, his heart was sinking to the bottom of his
stomach. Why did that sound like a goodbye? He felt like crying. Suddenly he
squeezed Sasuke tight into his embrace. The dark haired man said and did
nothing, only let him hold him.
“What did
you dream about?”
“I saw
Itachi. We fought. I died. And you lived.”
He could
hear Sasuke’s smile in his voice and a cold chill ran
down his spine. He yanked the man away from him, holding him fast from his arms
and stared into his eyes.
“No! That
will not happen.”
Sasuke just
smiled at him, looking defeated. Naruto stared at him as a primal rage burst
from inside him, making his eyes flare bright red for a second. He slapped
Sasuke.
“Stop that!
You’re not a fucking looser. Don’t give up now!”
Sasuke held
his cheek that was now turning red where he had gotten hit. The black hair hid
his red eyes from Naruto, but he could sense the anger in the other man. Yes, that’s better. Get angry!
He growled
and tried to push his chest. Sasuke grabbed his hand before he could touch him
and twisted it painfully. Then he jumped up, letting the hand go.
He stared
down at Naruto as the man stared back, slowly standing up as well. They didn’t
move, just stared at each other for a long time until they heard an owl hoot in
the forest and Naruto turned and walked away.
~*~*~
He came
back in the morning. He had had all night time to think things trough and had
came into a decision. No matter how much Sasuke would fight against him, he
would get things sorted today, they would talk until everything was settled and
he would refuse to walk one step further before that moment.
He found
Sasuke sitting next to his sleeping bag, warming up a big cup of ramen. Naruto
stared at the food with his mouth hanging open and drooled. Okay, the talk
could wait a while. Food.
~*~*~
For hours
Sasuke refused to listen to him. Every time Naruto opened his mouth, Sasuke
went to get food, to take a piss, to look
at the birds. Naruto was starting to get so pissed off that the third time
Sasuke announced he needed to take a pee, Naruto followed him.
Sasuke
didn’t take that well. He glared at the blond as he followed him, whistling a
tune and grinning, though the smile didn’t quite reach his eyes.
Finally
Sasuke stopped in the middle of the forest, crossed his arms on his chest and
turned to Naruto.
“It seems
that I can’t get rid of you for a second before you say what you wanted to say,
so, talk!”
Naruto
stared at him for a while, making sure he wouldn’t run away, then opened his
mouth and let out a blurt of talk that made no sense.
Sasuke rolled his eyes and Naruto pointed his eyes, laughing.
“Was that
it?” The black haired ninja turned and began walking again. Naruto let out a
yell and jumped past him, stepping in front of him so he couldn’t continue his
walk. Sasuke stared into his eyes gravely.
Naruto
waved his hand in the air and then started to pace the small opening they were
on, his hands buried in his tousled hair.
“When this
is all over, we go back to Konoha. Together.” He glared at Sasuke. The pale man
stared at him, his arms still crossed on his chest.
“Why are
you returning to this subject again?
Stop planning the future. I came here to revenge my brother. What happens after
that, is irrelevant to me, for now all I want to think
about is killing him.” Sasuke said coldly, pointing his head to the direction
they were heading.
Naruto
growled and walked closer to him “Sasuke, you fucking bastard!” he waved his
hands around again and then reached for Sasuke’s arm,
gripping him tightly. Sasuke stared at him lethally, trying to push him away.
“Do you
realize that life is more than revenging the past? You’re not the only one
who’s lost everyone important to you!” Naruto let go of him and jumped away,
flaying his hands around, pointing everywhere at once.
“You have
to stop living in the past and realize that you have your whole life ahead of
you. So what, you’re stupid brother killed your whole clan, it happened almost
twenty years ago! Get over it and start thinking about living for fucks sake. You’re pathetic.”
Sasuke
launched himself at Naruto, pressing him against a tree and taking his shirt
into his fists.
“Do you
think I can live? I’ve spent my whole
life getting ready to revenge Itachi, that’s why I came here with you, to
revenge. That’s all I have. That’s all I am!”
“That’s not
all you are! You are so much more than that. You’re… Sasuke, I-“ Naruto reached for Sasuke’s
hands that were still locked on his shirt.
He circled Sasuke’s wrists slowly and squeezed them gently, getting
the man to slightly lighten his grip.
“Sasuke.
You are everything to me.” He
whispered raggedly, his eyes burning from tears unshed.
Sasuke let
go of his shirt, staring at him in shock.
“Don’t say
that.” He whispered back, stepping away and looking down. His mission in life
was to kill his brother, everything else was irrelevant, nothing
would come between him and his revenge! He had decided. Naruto-.
He raised
his face again, staring at him with desperate eyes. Naruto was looking back.
“Sasuke, if you find nothing in your life worth living, then live for me.
Please, don’t plan to die.”
A tear fell
down the blonds whiskered cheek. Sasuke stared at it,
his head spinning. Years of planning, years of careful preparations and it all
came stumbling down with this idiot. He had tried to stay collected and focused
on his coal, but somehow everything was now turned around. Nothing was like he
had planned it, he had been so close and now- Itachi was the last thing he cared about.
Naruto
reached for him, his hand hovering close to his cheek, but afraid to touch.
Without a second thought Sasuke stepped closer, pressing the hand against his
pale skin and cherishing the warmth of Narutos touch.
He closed
his eyes and stepped another step closer, pressing his forehead against the
blonds shoulder. Naruto was suddenly surrounding him, his arms closing him into
a tight hug that made his ribs hurt. And it felt so good.
Sasuke stood
there, unable to move or say a word. This felt so right, he had missed this
touch so, so much.
He breathed
in Naruto’s soothing scent and let his own hands
slowly find the back of the blond’s shirt, gripping
it tightly into his fist like he was afraid the other ninja would disappear.
Suddenly
Naruto moved away and almost violently gripped his chin into his hand, lifting
his face up. Giving him no time to think, he kissed Sasuke’s
lips passionately hard. The black haired ninja let out a surprised sigh into
his mouth, but let his tongue in eagerly. Soon they moulded into one, grasping
desperately for each other, trying to get closer than was possible.
Naruto
pressed tighter against him, desperately grasping for his back and neck,
pulling him closer. Sasuke moaned into his mouth and answered his ramen scented
kiss passionately.
Finally
they had to break off to catch their breaths. They were both flustered and
breathed heavily, leaning forehead against forehead. Sasuke could sense Naruto
was looking at him but didn’t dare to open his eyes.
“Sasuke.
Look at me.” The blond whispered softly, a slight smile in his voice. Slowly
and carefully Sasuke opened his eyes to see the bright, blue eyes in front of
his. Naruto was smiling a stunningly beautiful, happy smile that made Sasuke’s heart flutter.
“You’re
going to live. I’ll make sure of that.” Naruto whispered against his lips when
he claimed them into another heated kiss. Sasuke answered with a slight nod
that Naruto could easily feel, pressing against him more tightly.
~*~*~
They
returned to their camp quietly and got ready to sleep. Both of them were
exhausted and needed the rest after the stressing night. They realized that
both of them had been so occupied with their worries and thoughts that they had
not slept well for days.
Sasuke sat
onto his sleeping bag and watched as Naruto moved his bag closer to him. The
blond settled behind him, soon pulling him down next to him. They held each
other close in a tight embrace as they finally fell asleep.
Sasuke woke
up first, his instinct telling him that danger was close, but soon realizing
that it was only Naruto who was still nuzzling his back, his arm resting
loosely on his waist.
He had
never slept like this before, so close to someone else. And now that the
sleepiness was starting to wash away from his mind, other, stronger emotions
took place.
And he
could feel he wasn’t the only one feeling that way. Naruto was practically
humping his back in his sleep. Suddenly the situation felt so unreal that he
had to snigger into his hand.
He had come
here to revenge his brother. And now he found himself in the arms of his best
friend who he thought he would never get to see again. He couldn’t have even
imagined this ever happening, no matter how much he truly loved Naruto.
His eyes
widened as the thought sank in. He loved
Naruto.
That made
sense. It always had made sense, but it had taken Naruto’s
kiss to make him finally admit it to himself. He was in love with Naruto. He
closed his eyes, taking Naruto’s hand into his and
falling asleep again at the soothing sound of Naruto’s
breathing.
If only the blond would stop humping his back.
~*~*~
Naruto woke
up a few moments later, finding Sasuke holding him tightly in his arms. He
smiled, smelling the man’s black hair. Sasuke let out an Mmmm and his black eyes fluttered
open to stare into bright blue ones.
For a
second Naruto was horrified Sasuke would push him away and turn his cold
bastard mode back on, but the man only smirked at him, turning so they were
face to face.
“Are your
pants crusty?” Sasuke asked with an evil grin. Naruto blinked “What?” What kind of question was that the first
thing in the morning after their first kiss? Bastard.
“You were
humping me so furiously that I thought you might have made a little mess.”
Sasuke continued, looking at him from under his bangs.
Naruto
flushed red. “I did not!”
“Yes,
actually you did. I think you moaned my name in your sleep too.” he added.
Naruto was purple. “No!” The blond yelled, jumping up. He had to check. No, he
had not- but he had to check anyways. How could he know what he was doing when
he slept? He moved around, his underpants seemed just fine, there was no mess
there.
“You’re
lying. I did not!” He yelled, pointing at Sasuke and patting his crotch. “All clean
here.”
Sasuke
lifted his eyebrow and smirked again. “I don’t think I believe that. You could
show me to prove you’re not lying.”
Naruto was
once again bright red and fuming. “No way! You made
the whole thing up.”
“Actually I
didn’t. You just stopped before you came.” Sasuke scratched at his hair. Naruto
stared at him with wide eyes and red face.
“I-you,
it’s because- it’s your fault!” Naruto yelled, pointing at him again. Sasuke
chuckled. “Why is it my fault?”
“You’re
too- how can I sleep so close to you without-“he shut his mouth and stood there
looking like a panicked rabbit. Sasuke laughed and patted his sleeping bag.
“If I make
you that hot and horny, what are you doing standing there when I’m down here?”
“I-“ Naruto yelled, then loosing his words into a mindless
mumble. Slowly Sasuke’s grin faded into a small
smile.
“You know,
you can touch me. I won’t run away
anymore.”
Naruto
stared at him with wide eyes. “Sasuke.” he leaned down and Sasuke reached up.
“Naruto.”
He yanked hard and the blond fell on him. In an instant he had rolled them
around and was straddling the bigger man.
“I-am-yours”
he whispered into Naruto’s ear slowly and looked into
his eyes.
Then
suddenly, in a blink of a blue eye, he got up, walking away towards the river.
“But we only
have a few hours left before sunset and we should get going soon. So we have to
save the rest for later.” he yelled as he walked on, not looking at Naruto. The
blond laid down on Sasuke’s sleeping back and stared
up at the sky, his head spinning.
Then he
jumped up, running after Sasuke and catching him up “When’s later?”
“When we’ve gotten rid of Itachi. You promised to keep me alive. You better hold
that promise because I think I found a reason to live.”
Naruto
stopped. His chin dropped and his eyes went wide. His heart was flipping in his
chest. Then a bright grin rose to his face. “YOSH!” He
yelled, jumping after Sasuke.
~*~*~
They had
been travelling for two days after their stop and they were there. Naruto was
sure about it. He could sense Itachi close by, and not only him, the strong smell of Sai was around too. And Sakura, though
her smell was faint, she must be hidden somewhere near by.
Sasuke had
been very quiet after they had set moving again. They had not kissed or even
touched much sense then. Naruto had patted his back and ruffled his hair from
time to time, but that was as far as they had gotten. Naruto could sense Sasuke
wanted to gather his strength and energy for the final battle.
And here
the day was. The day Sasuke had waited from the day he had seen his parents
dead in his feet. And all he could think of, was how to get over with this as
fast as he could and get Naruto to safety. He didn’t care what happened to
Itachi as long as they would be safe after this. That was the priority now.
Oh and
getting Sakura free. That would be nice too, but not compulsory for Sasuke.
~*~*~
They neared
the secret campsite from behind a hill and soon saw a little cabin in the
middle of a small clearing. They were definitely not even trying to hide.
Naruto snarled in anger silently as he saw Sai walk out of the cabin to hang
laundry. There were pink shirts and pants among other clothes that must have
been Sakura’s.
Sai had
never been a prisoner for Itachi, that much was clear
right away. But Naruto was too glad to see Sakura’s clothes to be nothing but
relieved. Sakura was still alive, even when her scent was faint and somehow
changed. He would have felt horrible if she had died during his trip to find
Sasuke.
He felt Sasuke’s hand on his shoulder and turned around to glance
at him. The black haired ninja had a very grim expression on his face as he
nodded back. The crawled away
“We better
attack right away. We can’t wait and risk them to sense us around, if they
haven’t already.” Sasuke whispered into his ear, his breath ghosting against
his skin warmly. Naruto shook his head.
“We should
wait so we know where Itachi is. And before that we need to talk.”
“You can’t
sense Itachi?” Sasuke frowned. Naruto shook his head again “I can, but I want
to see him when we attack.”
“I don’t
need to see him to win him.” Sasuke said surely, walking away. Naruto was
right, they needed to talk.
~*~*~
They stood
far enough to be out of hearing reach from the cabin. Sasuke leaned his back
against a tree and observed Naruto, who was pacing back and forth in front of
him. Then the blond stopped.
“I can’t
stand the thought of loosing you.” Naruto said with a desperate tint in his
voice. Sasuke stared at him for a small moment, then sighed and stepped closer
to him.
He smiled
softly as he stepped close enough for their chest to bump together.
“You’re not
losing me. I don’t want to die anymore. But just in case- if I come too close
to death, you better save me.” he smirked at Naruto’s
surprised expression. He leaned even closer until their noses rubbed together.
Naruto was looking at him with wide, surprised eyes. Sasuke closed his eyes as
he nudged his cheek and brought his lips close to Naruto’s
ear.
“I love
you.” he whispered very softly. Naruto let out a gasp as his cheeks flushed
deep red. Then Sasuke was gone.
It took a
while for Naruto to wake up from the happy haze he was in. When he did, he
hurried after Sasuke, catching him up from a tree over the clearing. He landed
silently behind the pale ninja, brushing his back with his arm and letting him
know he was there. It didn’t seem to surprise Sasuke, who was wearing a
serious, concentrated expression.
“Sasuke.
Don’t plan on dying on me. I am going to make you mine when we get out of this
mess.” The blond said with a soft grin on his tanned face as he fitted his
forehead protector on place, leaning on Sasuke’s back
softly. Then he was gone.
Sasuke
stared after him for a moment, smirking softly and then focused his thoughts
back to his brother.
He jumped
down from the tree, landing in front of the small cabin. He yelled out his brother’s
name with rage.
