A/n:
I'm so glad one person has the time of day to give feedback on a
story. And as for everyone else that seems to just go by and leave
just a hit... well I'm going to at least try to get you to say
something. Not like people pay attention to these anyways.
3, Gilded to the grave
The
dark wind blew through the streets as the darkness continued. People
fleeing and dying by the masses. The smell of death lingered in the
air, swallowing souls and condemning them to their fate. The undead
walked through the streets as if they owned the living realm, having
no qualms devouring anything that crossed their path, living or dead.
"Juuken!"
Several
zombies fell down on the ground and writhed as the red gas that
leaked out of them started to dissolve their own bodies. Neji was
standing over them breathing heavily as he looked around. I've
seen what that gas did to Kakashi, but if I block it with a bit of
extra chakra it will eat at their skin instead.
Neji smirked as he turned around and faced two more zombies. Each of
them stood with arms extended to the side and mouth open. "DIE!"
When they ran at each other Neji twirled on his heel and struck one
of them on the shoulder. His hand broke the skin and pulled back so
the gas would start to corrode the zombies flesh. As he did so he
turned and struck the other zombie on the back of the neck, then
flipped away to watch them dissolve before they hit the ground. It's
a shame that I'm using chakra too fast though.
"Neji!" Turning around, Neji saw Tenten and Lee running towards
him. He let out a sigh of relief as they stopped a few feet in front
of him. "What is going on in this town?" Tenten looked frantic at
this point, and Lee looked downright scared as hell. "I don't think
Lee is going to last too much longer. Look at how frightened he is
already."
They both glanced at Lee who's teeth was chattering and he was
looking around the road with wide eyes. "It seems that your right.
But we can't just let them take over Konoha."
"B-But, they're scary!" Lee cried out.
"Don't let their blood touch you, it can dissolve flesh. But if
your quick enough Lee... you can have their own blood vaporize their
skin." Lee stood back at attention and thought about it. He was
fast, maybe he could do it. "Although it would be advisable to
avoid them."
"What about the others?" Tenten interrupted.
"I haven't found them yet... and I've been looking for Naruto of
all people."
"I see... if you can't find him you probably won't find the others
either," Tenten said with a sigh.
"Yeah," Neji responded. Before he could speak again though, the
sound of a scream rang through his ears. He turned around and
clenched his teeth. "Let's go!" With his command, the three of
them left for the end of the street, to help the person who screamed.
Although it seemed a bit familiar. Neji just didn't have a
good feeling about it.

an
hour before...
Naruto's knees felt like giving in. He gazed up at the face of
someone he thought he could trust... and the fact that their face was
pale white, going along with their snow-white hair. Jiraiya looked
down at Naruto, with blood dripping from his clouded eyes, ears, and
mouth. His posture was that of the zombies outside, and it seemed he
had also been killed. "No..." Naruto looked on his body, and the
liquid he had ran into before was blood. Blood from someone else
other than Jiraiya.
"You always did make me nervous," was all Jiraiya said. He held
out his hand and chakra began spiraling. Soon he had formed a
rasengan, and had its target set for Naruto. "Now you can die as
well, and everything will be finished." Naruto jumped back quickly
and avoided most of the shock from the rasengan. It struck him
lightly on the chest, but still it caused a lot of pain.
Naruto winced as he flew backwards, lightly twisting to the side as
he struck the far wall of the hallway. He spat up a bit of blood
before falling to the ground. The attack seemed to have drained most
of his power, and somehow he had seemed to lost a lot of his will.
Even those that I trusted are betraying me... Naruto's hair
shadowed his eyes as he lied motionless on the ground.
"Look at what you've done Naruto, are you that selfish?"
Naruto's head shot up and he glanced over at Jiraiya. Jiraiya even
froze as murderous intent poured from Naruto. "The blood on you...
whose is it?" Jiraiya's eyes widened, but he wasn't about to lie. A
smirk came across his face as he said the word that sealed his fate.
"Sakura's."
There was a pause. Naruto's eyes were wide, and he seemed to have
lost himself in thought. No way... he didn't. Naruto's body
tensed as he stood up. All the while he was looking away from Jiraiya
he was contemplating how he was going to kill him. Something was
pouring thoughts into him, and he couldn't think right. Death made
its way into his mind, and someone was enjoying every minute of it.
"Your dead... no matter how much I thought I trusted you."
Naruto faced Jiraiya and looked upward. His eyes were now a crimson
hue, and he felt a lot lighter. A red aura surrounded him and a light
wind stirred from his body. His gaze was fixed at Jiraiya's neck, and
he figured the best way to end it. Naruto leaned forward and started
running, leaving after images as he leaped forward. Jiraiya had no
time to move as Naruto planted his claws at his neck, embedding his
claws into the flesh. His feet planted themselves on Jiraiya's chest.
Clenching for all he was worth, Naruto's body was shaking. It was
doing so for two reasons. His human conscious didn't want it to
continue, it was unsure. It definitely did not want to be a murderer.
The demon part of him was in ecstasy though. Having just emerged, it
was so excited for a new kill. So excited that it was shaking. But
regardless, killing the dead is quite impossible.
Jiraiya smirked as he saw the boy's efforts. He might be able to rip
his throat out, but he could still fight back. Jiraiya wrapped his
arms around the boys necks and repeated the process. In this tug of
war, no matter who was the strongest, the result would more than
likely be the same. Naruto, after figuring it out, needed to get
away. Shit, he really is dead!
Before he could get away, Naruto felt something snap. His grip slowly
loosened as his feet slipped of Jiraiya's chest. He flopped in
Jiraiya's grip as his head dipped to the side. Tears that had welled
up in his eyes flowed down his cheeks as his breathing slowed and
eventually stopped. His mouth stood agape and his heart stopped as he
stood in Jiraiya's grasp. Sensing his death, Jiraiya dropped Naruto
to the ground and turned around.
"It is done..."
The darkness slowly began to disperse. The flesh of Jiraiya also
began to leave, however this time a form remained behind. A person in
a black kimono with a brown straw hat. "Sorry kid, I didn't want to
do that, but you were just too dangerous." He looked back with
crimson red eyes before turning back around. I hope you have a
good time in heaven.
After that the person himself also fluttered away into gas, rising
into the sky and dispersing just as quickly. May the winds of
change bring this village and it's martyr peace at last.

"What the hell?" Kiba cursed
All the zombies slowly disappeared into ash and the buildings
regained their old form. The sky began to lighten up and eventually
everything seemed back to normal. Kiba and Shino were standing on
either side of Hinata, and were obviously protecting her. "Shino,
do you know what the hell is going on?"
"Not a clue," was his only answer.
"Kiba, Shino, Hinata!" The three of them turned to see their
instructor running towards them.
"Kurenai-sensei?"
She stopped just shy of them and motioned for them to follow. Doing
as they were told, all of them made their way to the center of town.
Noting how everything was returning to normal as they went towards
the center of town. "If we follow this, we may find out who is
doing it!" Kiba pointed out. He felt a bit proud of his deduction.
When they arrived, all the other genin teams seemed to have made it.
They seemed to have had the same idea that Kurenai had. Shikamaru and
Neji were now overlooking a small well that made up the last part of
where the corruption had ended. "Is this the exact center of
Konoha?" Neji looked towards Shikamaru, and got a nod in return.
"I don't think a well did this, so someone must be down there."
Shikamaru looked up at Neji and motioned for him to take a peek down
the well. "Anything out of the ordinary, make sure to tell us OK?"
"Right," Neji responded. He formed the byakugan and took a peek
down the well, yet for some reason it seemed ordinary. Nothing at all
out of the ordinary. "Theres nothing down there, and no passages
leading away either."
"Then... who?" Hinata asked.
"Where's Sakura, Naruto and Kakashi?" Azuma piped up.
"Kakashi is in Tsunade's care, and we don't know where Sakura and
Naruto is." Shizune said.
The jounins all looked at Shizune before looking up at the hospital.
"What do you want to bet that Naruto is up there?" Kurenai said.
They took a deep look at the hospital with the genin joining in, and
suddenly they felt a ping of dread in their hearts.
* * *
Jiraiya was the first one to reach the hospital since he left before
the others. As he made his way through it seemed like nothing out of
the ordinary had happened. He walked through the double doors at the
end of the hospital and turned the corner towards the hallway. That
was when his eyes widened and his mouth went slack.
"NARUTO!"
He ran over to Naruto's side and propped up his body. His neck was
broken, and there were no signs of life in his body. Jiraiya bit his
lower lip as he gripped the sides of Naruto's jacket. His eyes closed
a bit as he reached over and pulled Naruto's eyelids down. Which was
when the rest of the group rounded the corner to the hallway.
As soon as Shizune saw who Jiraiya was holding, she put her hand to
her mouth. If she wasn't such a trained ninja she probably could have
cried right there. They all made it over to Naruto's side, but still
their was no life signs in his body. "He's gone..." Jiraiya said.
"No way..." Lee said.
They heard another sound and the doors behind them opening and looked
behind him. "Where's Hinata?" Kiba asked. Shino sighed and looked
over to Kiba, shacking his head. "So you weren't kidding when you
said she..." Kiba was answered by a nod from Shino and even he felt
bad. I should have realized that... dammit, why did I let her
come?
Shizune walked past Naruto, still covering her mouth and rounded the
corner. She saw something in the corner and walked a bit closer.
Something pink was sitting in the darkness of the corner and it
seemed like a lot of red was accompanied with it. Is that...
When she got close enough her eyes flew wide open as she resisted the
urge to vomit. Sakura was sitting in the corner. Dry tears were
stained on her face, while the rest of her body was a mess of sword
wounds. She was a bloody mess.
"This can't be!"
After her shout, everyone but Jiraiya also rounded the corner. As
they saw what Shizune saw, most of them also had the same reaction.
Ino also felt a ping of guilt, and couldn't believe Sakura's life had
ended like that. Not able to take it, Ino broke down and began
crying.
* * *
Naruto suddenly felt like ten thousand pounds of weight was added
onto his body. Was this what heaven was supposed to feel like? His
eyes slowly began to open and close, getting used to the light that
shined in his eyes. It was sunny, and he was laying on grass. Where
am I?
He turned his head to the side and opened his eyes full. It was just
grass as far as the eye could see, and nothing else. He repeated the
process with the other side, but this time he was greeted with a huge
gate. White walls as high as the biggest mountain back in Konoha. It
looked like there was little hope that he could scale the walls. And
the gate looked much too heavy to open.
He started to remember what had happened, he attacked Jiraiya because
Sakura was dead. He couldn't protect her, and now she was probably
wandering Konoha, looking for Sasuke. I'm sorry Sakura... now I
can't save Sasuke for you! He curled into a fetal position and
watched the gate. And for some reason his stomach growled. I'm
hungry...
realization hit like a ton of bricks. Hungry? I'm not dead!
To be continued...
