three.)
3, Insanity surfaces
Naruto looked out towards
the pink haired girl sitting all by herself at the park. He went slowly just in
case she would be scared and run away from him. She was sitting on a swing
looking at all the other people around her. To him, she seemed like someone
that was similar to himself, maybe she was hated as well? He crossed the dirt
road right before the park and slowly made his way down a grassy hill, towards
the swing where she sat.
Naruto saw that she
noticed his approach and stopped for a moment. She lowered her head and kicked
her feet lightly. Naruto blinked a few times in confusion but regained his
stride. He walked over beside the girl and looked down at her, not really
knowing where to start.
“Go away... please.” she
said as politely as possible.
Naruto was used to people
saying things like that. However something was saying to him that she didn't
want him to leave. “Why?” It was a simple question, but it got the point
across. Naruto saw her look up at him and he smiled for an instant. “Hi! What's
your name?”
“H-Haruno Sakura,” she
said shyly. She shifted her head, making sure her pink bangs hid her forehead
and looked back at Naruto. “W-What's your name?” Naruto clenched his fists
slightly, hoping that she would not think of him as bad if she knew his name.
“N-Naruto, Uzumaki
Naruto,” he said softly. He could tell that Sakura could barely hear him and he
wanted it that way. She blinked a few times before standing up from the swing.
“Y-You're going somewhere?” he asked nervously.
“No, I just thought you
would like the swing...” she said sadly. It was obvious to Naruto that she
thought he came over to swing on the swing, and not make friends with her.
“That's why you came over here isn't it?” she asked. Naruto couldn't really put
a finger on the emotion coming from Sakura, but it was somewhere between anger
and sorrow.
“No,” he said abruptly, “I
just came over to talk to you.”
Naruto could see Sakura's
eyes widen. It was definitely not something that she expected. Naruto smiled
and rubbed the back of his head while he was getting a little anxious. He had
put himself up on a limb and was becoming more and more nervous as time went
on. He saw her looking at him strangely, in his mind because she was trying to
decide the best way to shake him off. Naruto swallowed nervously and twitched a
little, still waiting for Sakura to answer.
“Oh,” she said softly,
“well what do you want to talk about?”
Butterflies flew in his
stomach as he balanced on the balls of his feet. “Well,” Naruto said, “I was
wondering why you were sitting all by yourself.” He looked around to see people
of all ages playing with others. It did strike him as odd that anyone besides
himself would be playing alone. After all, no one ran from them... He could see
that she got even more shy and looked away from him, as if not wanting to
answer the question.
“Something wrong?” he
asked softly.
“No,” she replied harshly.
Naruto blinked a few times, wondering what he had done to upset her. “It's just
that...” Her face went into a pout as she stomped the ground harshly, making
Naruto jump back a bit from the shock. “Oh, sorry,” she said. Naruto saw her
look back over and he turned his head, not wanting to show the tinge of pink
that now littered his face. “Well, it's because I have a big forehead.”
Naruto looked back at her
with a raised eyebrow, 'big forehead?' he thought. It didn't seem that
big to him at least, maybe a bit wide but still, there wasn't anything wrong
with it. “Maybe it's because you're trying to hide it?” Naruto concluded,
pointing out the bangs that covered her forehead. “Just don't care what people
think about you!” he said cheerily. However, he mentally kicked himself for
being such an idiot. After all, he didn't practice not caring either.
“Hey, do you... want to
play together then?” Naruto looked at her with surprise. Actually, he didn't
really know what to do. He looked at Sakura with her hand extended towards him
and a smile on her face and blinked a few times. “I won't bite,” she giggled,
“after all, you gave me some good advice.”
“Oh...” Naruto said
timidly.
She smiled and grabbed his
arm, pulling him away. The two made their way across the park, running after
each other. Naruto was surprised that Sakura was so fast for her age. It was
even hard for the young Kyuubi carrier to keep up.
They ran to a far end of
the park. There was a small stream flowing horizontally as they ran beside it.
Sakura was giggling loudly as she ran from Naruto, having just as much fun as
she could have with someone else.
Naruto smirked as he
stepped on a rather large rock and launched himself towards Sakura. She gasped
as she heard him leap and turned around just in time to see him catch her by
the waist. Squeaking, Sakura fell with Naruto and they rolled on the ground
sideways onto the grass. When they stopped, Naruto rolled off Sakura, to where
they were lying on the grass, laughing, and facing the sky above them.
“That was fun Naruto-kun!”
Sakura said loudly.
“Yeah...” Naruto finished,
still trying to catch his breath. “I didn't think you could run that fast.”
After slowly catching her
breath she puffed out her chest and smiled brightly. “I have to be strong if
I'm going to be a ninja!” She sat up on the ground and looked back at Naruto.
“Ino said that ninjas are respected... so I'll make sure to be one now.” Naruto
blinked a few times, this was the first time he had heard someone talking about
being a Ninja. “You're going to join the academy to right?”
“Ninjas are respected
huh?” he said softly to himself. “I guess it couldn't hurt to join up.” He
looked over to Sakura who had a smile on her face and smirked. “But that would
mean we would be rivals right?”
Sakura's face turned to
confusion with her eyes wide. Naruto could tell that she had not thought of
that when she had told him about the ninja job. She turned back around, but
Naruto could still see the smile that was still on her face.
“We would still be friends
right?” she asked.
“Ok,” Naruto replied.
“Sakura...”
The two turned around to
see a man with spiky gray hair. His eyes were squints, signaling his old age.
Around his body he had a red Kimono on, and he had a Konoha forehead protector
on a side of his shoulder. (We don't know who Sakura's parents are, and quite
frankly, we really don't care.) He looked at Sakura with a worried face, and he
was sweating a bit. “Time to come home Sakura, you seemed to have wandered off
quite a bit.”
Sakura's face returned to
a pout as she turned her head. “The sun hasn't gone down yet,” she said softly.
“It's time to come home, I
don't care what you say.” Naruto could feel that he was inwardly glaring at
him, and he sunk his head down in discomfort because of it. Sakura looked over
to him and grumbled a goodbye before standing up and walking over to him.
“Yes father,” she said
softly, “by Naruto-kun.” She waved at him, and he carefully waved back, not
wanting to make her father angry. When He pushed Sakura through the trees to a
path, Sakura's father looked back towards Naruto. He swallowed nervously;
hoping he wouldn't be getting another beating, but what happened next was a bit
strange.
“Uzumaki-san, I apologize
for taking Sakura, but I require her at home for a bit.” His eyes widened after
his name was spoken with respect, and he didn't even know why. “I'm sure she
will be able to play with you tomorrow, but I just want to say I'm sorry for
not being able to help you.” Taking a bow, Sakura's father turned around and
followed the woods out of the riverside, leaving a very confused Naruto behind
him.
“Did he... say sorry to
me?”
Naruto sat
down on his bed. Back in his apartment everything was so drab and plain. He had
a pretty exciting day, it started out horrible, but meeting Sakura sure livened
up his day. He smiled as he thought of what he could do tomorrow and leaned
back until he was lying down. “It was a pretty good day no matter how it
started out.”
“I've had enough of
this goodly talk.” Naruto's eyes opened wide as Kyuubi spoke inside of him.
He sat back up and looked around the room. After a few moments of silence it
seemed that it was actually just his imagination acting up. Sighing, Naruto
fell back onto his bed, slowly closing his eyes.
“I thought you would
never come.”
Naruto's eyes widened
again. However this time, instead of being surrounded by the things in his
room, there was nothing but darkness around him. He looked over to see the nine
tailed fox that said he would “befriend him.” Its eyes were sharper than
before, reflecting some murderous intent throughout the room. Naruto swallowed
nervously before slowly standing up on the water-drenched floor. “What do you
want?”
“You haven't been
taking my advice,” Kyuubi said slyly, “Friends are supposed to take
their friends advice.” Naruto looked away from him, fidgeting
uncomfortably. “Don't you know I only want what's best for you?” Naruto
softly bit his lower lip and looked back towards him. The Kyuubi had tears in
his eyes, making him look “cute”. Naruto raised an eyebrow and took a step back
before gritting his teeth.
“How could I follow your
advice,” Naruto yelled, “all you want me to do is kill people!” The Kyuubi let
tears fall from its eyes, giving the appearance of a crying fox. Naruto
breathed in and out in deep breaths to calm himself and retreated back another
step. “Don't come near me!” He knew that Kyuubi was going to try to convince
him again, but those two murders was enough to wonder if he was really doing
the right thing.
“Naruto, don't worry
about a thing, let me have control now...”
Naruto was breathing
rapidly, he closed his eyes tightly and backed up all the way to the far end of
the wall sinking down to his knees. Kyuubi grinned as it walked up towards him;
he was weak... and now was the perfect time to manipulate him again. Forward...
forward, until the two merged... and once again they were swallowed by a red
light.
A soft
thump was heard as Naruto landed on the ground in a dark alley. His eyes were a
malicious purple once again, and were sharp as he looked around like a wild
animal. It was nighttime, and the festival construction had stopped for the
night. It was time to feed… for the Kyuubi had full control of Naruto… and was
currently lusting for a good blood shower. ‘I smell something…’
Naruto bounced down the
alley to the end. He stuck his head out slowly, scanning the poorly lit street
for signs of life. He was in luck as well for a pair of two adults was walking
down the road. He smiled to himself as he saw them; one was a broad man of
about thirty years in age. He had a ninjas build, and spiky brown hair. Both of
them as they came close revealed that they had emerald green eyes. And the
woman had a more lean build with long pink hair. Holding both of their hands,
was the same young girl that Naruto had met in the park earlier, Sakura...
They walked up to one of
the houses and unlocked the door. Naruto smiled as he pounced forward, entering
the door and standing on the ceiling as they entered the house. The two parents
didn’t have a clue that they were being targeted… they didn’t know that they
were in a room with a devil.
“The festival will be
great right father!” the little girl said, getting a nod from her father. “I'll
be able to take Naruto-kun, right mother?”
“Of course Sakura-chan,”
her mother said, “and you’ll be a hit with that pink Kimono that we got for
you.”
“Right!” Sakura replied
enthusiastically.
“Yes, but for now I
believe it’s time for you to get to bed,” her father added.
“Humph!”
A soft thump behind the
two parents made them shiver. They slowly looked backwards, hoping that it was
just their imagination but their eyes widened as they saw Naruto smirking at
them, and looking back at them with purple eyes. Acting fast, Sakura’s father
pushed her mother out of the way and in front of Sakura. Normally this would
have been a great plan, but it didn’t last for long…
“W-What do you want?”
“Nothing much,” Naruto
replied slyly. “However, I would love to get you out of the way of my plans.”
Sakura’s father grunted as
he charged forward. Normally this would have been bad news, but for Naruto this
was nothing. He sidestepped the large man and a chakra hand left Naruto’s back,
stabbing him straight through the heart.
“FATHER!”
“HONEY!”
He fell to the ground with
a thud, blood pooling around him. Naruto however, couldn’t have looked happier.
He turned back towards Sakura’s mother with a smirk on his face, and she
couldn’t believe her eyes. She had never thought that Naruto had a malicious
bone in his body… so why would he attack like this… why them?
“Die…”
Two hands of red chakra
flew forward, taking the life of Sakura’s mother. She fell on the ground in
thirds, blood splattering over Sakura’s body. She looked at the corpses of her
mother and father with wide eyes and then back up to Naruto. “W-Why?” She would
remember this boy for the rest of her life… a boy that deprived her of her
family… that took it all away. “Why did you do this…?”
“Because I am a demon… and
the world is not always a perfect place…”
Another hand of red chakra
appeared, ready to take out Sakura for good. “I was ... going to take you to
the festival...” she said in disbelief.
“Life is harsh, isn't it?”
She flinched and covered her face, but was ready for the strike. He was so
close to killing her before a familiar pain shot through his spine and stopped
his attack. ‘S-Shit…’ Naruto thought, ‘why now?’
He took a last look at
Sakura and narrowed his eyes. “I won’t forget this either…”
And just like that, he
vanished out the door…
