Sasuke felt his temper flare and he clenched his fists as he sat up, propping himself against the jade tiled wall. This was perfect. He finally decided to be nice to someone out of the goodness of his heart, and that someone ended up being a teenage hooker with suicidal and homicidal tendencies... maybe even multiple personalities. 'What the hell is wrong with this kid?'
He was tempted to ask Naruto that very question, but he knew himself well enough to know that a smart ass answer from the boy could lead to trouble. If Sasuke knew one thing about himself it was this: He had one hell of a temper.
His temper was the reason that he had to take the bus everywhere instead of one of his four cars. There had been a nasty road rage incident earlier in the spring and the judge said he had gotten off light only having his license suspended for a year.
Another casualty of his temper was his relationship with Neji. It was his own fault that the white eyed boy never came by anymore when he was in the apartment. They had been dating not too long ago, but when Neji got a new job at a record store he started hanging out with his co-workers more often than Sasuke. Jealousy got the best of him and he ended up in a fist fight with one of Neji's managers... getting the Hyuuga boy fired in the process. They'd broken up that night and hadn't been in the same room together since.
His temper was also the reason he'd had to replace the TV twice this year (Hinata had since forbade him from watching Court TV). It was also why he went to the YMCA every Wednesday night for Anger Management classes with Kakashi.
Sasuke took a deep breath and let it out slowly. He counted backwards from 10 to 1 and tried to think of soothing thoughts like puppies and rainbows and Jack Daniels. This visualization stuff was mostly nonsense, but he had to admit, the thought of a drink was making him feel much better. Wouldn't that be fitting? Anger Management drives him to drinking, and so once he's out of those classes he'll have to start in on Alcoholics Anonymous. Kakashi probably teaches that class too. He's got himself a nice little racket going.
Naruto stirred in the water and that was enough to bring Sasuke out of his thoughts. He had managed to calm himself down and he was now confident that he could stand up and at the very least not throttle Naruto on his way out the door.
"You stay there." He ordered as he stood up and headed for the bathroom exit. He noticed that even with his eyes closed Naruto didn't look nearly as confident as he had a minute ago. 'Well, it serves him right.' Sasuke knew that saying something reassuring to him would be the kind thing to do, but he wasn't that advanced in anger management yet. He deserved to lay there in that tub and worry about his future for a few minutes after the shit he'd pulled.
Sasuke walked straight to his room ignoring Hinata's gaze from the kitchen. He would explain this to her later... for now he needed to get Naruto some clean clothes. The clothes he had worn in to the apartment were in a pile on the bathroom floor and were probably some kind of health hazard. Sasuke was glad that Naruto had stripped before sitting on his immaculate bed; Otherwise he would have had to burn the sheets.
Sasuke preferred to keep everything in his life as simple as possible, so the decoration in his room was kept to a minimum. The only exception to this was the large fan above his bed that his eyes alighted upon as he entered the room. It had been in his family's house before the fire and it was one of the few things the Firefighters had been able to save. He sighed and tore his gaze from the fan, continueing on to his sleek black dresser where he selected a navy blue t-shirt and a pair of plaid pajama pants that had gotten a little too tight for him. It seemed creepy to make Naruto wear used boxers, even if they were clean.
Remembering that he had a pair he had never worn somewhere in his closest he dug through several shoe boxes looking for the novelty boxers one of his obnoxious fan club members had given him for Valentine's Day a few years before. When he found them he had to suppress a smile because they were truly ridiculous. They were black with little orange foxes all over them. The word "foxy" was written around the waistband several times and little pink and red hearts speckled any empty space left on the material. They weren't attractive in the least, but at least they were straight out of the package.
He made his way back to the bathroom and noticed the door was ajar. He hoped Naruto had listened to him and stayed put in the tub. If the blond had hopped and put the dirty clothes back on he was going to need another bath. As Sasuke prepared to enter he stopped when he heard Naruto speaking in hushed tones. Sasuke realized it was a prayer immediately and quietly banged his head against the wall. 'I don't want to hear this.' He thought as he moved his ear closer to the door. Naruto was in mid-sentence when Sasuke finally got near enough to make out what was being said.
"...and I don't know why. I'm sorry for asking you twice in one night to keep me safe but I did something really stupid. I'm sure you saw. I wouldn't blame you if you decide not to help... You’re probably busy with people who have more important problems and make fewer dumb mistakes. I don't deserve all the times you've saved me before so don’t think I don’t appreciate it.
Anyway, if you could, can you make him think it might be better not to hurt me? Or, if that's not in your plans, can you at least help me black out this time? It's not so bad when I can't remember it. Thanks for all the help and if you see mom and dad before I do, can you tell them that I'm doing fine and I miss them and love them? Amen."
Sasuke took a deep breath. Either these prayers were the most skillful manipulation tool Sasuke had ever come across or Naruto had the saddest life of anyone he'd ever met. He was guessing it was the latter of the two. He walked in and Naruto flinched a little. By the time Sasuke crossed in front of him the blond was shaking so badly the water was getting choppy. Sasuke crossed his arms and stared down at the boy in the tub.
"That was a really stupid thing you did." That wasn't how Sasuke had planned on starting this conversation, but it came out of his mouth before he could rein it in. He sat down next to the tub and Naruto looked up at him with frightened blue eyes. He looked so incredibly helpless that what was left of Sasuke's anger fell away completely.
"You don't need to look at me like that; I'm not planning on punishing you. I need to know something though; You won't pull that kind of stunt on Hinata will you? As much as I'd like to help you, I'm not willing to put her in danger."
Naruto's expression changed considerably. Instead of looking scared he looked ashamed.
"I'm... I'm sorry... I would never hurt... I'm so sorry..." The rest of what he said was totally unintelligible because his voice became so soft it couldn't even be described as a whisper. Naruto’s eyes filled with tears and although Sasuke could tell the blond boy was still apologizing, it was no longer necessary. He was convinced that what ever had possessed Naruto to strike out at him wasn't going to put Hinata in danger. That had been his only concern and now that it had been addressed he wanted to get Naruto out of the tub and into some clothes. His lack of clothing was making Sasuke incredibly uncomfortable. Maybe it was all this raw emotion. It made everything seem naked.
"I'm going back out to the kitchen. Please get dressed and come join us. It looked like Hinata was cooking, and if all the pots and pans are any indication, we're having a big meal. I hope you're hungry."
Naruto almost laughed out loud. Except for the first few days with his "adoptive parents" he couldn't remember a time in his life when he wasn't hungry. Many of his nastier scars were bites from stray dogs that he'd fought with over food in a dumpsters. He could barely believe God was being so merciful tonight. It was a miracle he was still alive and now he was even being offered food.
Sasuke left the bathroom and Naruto got dressed slowly. The boxers were silly but he liked them. 'Foxy, huh? I can see that. When he's not glaring, he's not bad looking at all... not nearly as scary as I thought.' Silently he wondered how someone as put together as Sasuke could possibly come into possession of something so... whimsical.
"Naruto, are you dressed?" Hinata called from the hallway. He could hear the blushing in her voice and he smiled as he remembered how embarrassed the sweet girl had gotten when he had started to undress in front of her. He'd become so used to people seeing him without clothes that it hadn't occurred to him it might make her uncomfortable.
"I am now." He said as he tugged the clean shirt over his head. Hinata stepped inside, blushing.
"H-here. I collect these from hotels and I thought you might like them." She thrust a basket into his hands and then fled the bathroom still looking nervous. Naruto inspected what he'd been given. There was a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, hair gel, a pair of nail clippers, lotion, and a dozen other tiny bottles of who knew what. Naruto sat the basket down on the sink. It wouldn't hurt anything to make himself more presentable, and honestly he was a little excited about getting a gift. She hadn't called it that, but he wasn’t picky, and inside the tiny basket were more presents than he'd gotten for all of his birthdays combined.
After about 5 minutes he had tried out almost everything. The only thing that puzzled him was the hair gel. He tried to move his hair around so it would fall in spikes like Sasuke's did, but instead it just fell heavily around his face, so instead he picked up a towel and tousled his hair. That was better. It looked wild, but at least it was clean. If Sasuke changed his mind and did take him tonight, maybe he would be gentler if Naruto seemed more valuable than common street trash.
Naruto stepped out into the hallway only to be met buy someone he assumed must be the Neji they had called earlier. He was taller than Sasuke, who was currently no where to be seen, and his black hair was tied back in a ponytail that flowed down to his waist. He was wearing a tight white shirt and tight red pants. The boy gave off a confident air and he looked intense but oddly familiar. Naruto couldn't put his finger on it, but he was sure he'd seen him somewhere before.
"Cousin! You're here!" Hinata called as she exited her bedroom.
Cousin. So that was why he looked familiar. Now that Naruto knew what he was looking for he could definitely tell Neji and Hinata were related. They had the same eyes.
"Hello, Hinata." He called back to her as she scurried into the kitchen waving as she passed. "You must be Naruto? It's your rib, isn't it? I can see you're favoring it." When Naruto nodded, Neji looked him up and down and lifted an eyebrow at Hinata who had peeked around the corner.
"This would be easier if you were lying down. Which room are you staying in?"
Naruto felt his breath hitch in his chest. If they didn't want Neji to know he was a prostitute how bad would it look if he pointed to Sasuke's room? He didn't want to blow their cover and cause trouble so he pointed at a promising looking door down the hall.
"You're staying in the Linen Closet?" Neji asked, trying to hold back a smile.
"This place is so big, I keep getting turned around." Naruto managed to get out as he pointed to the door next to the first. "I think that might be it."
"That's a bathroom." Neji was having a much harder time now concealing his amusement. If he hadn't known what was going on before, his mind was quickly filling in the blanks. Luckily Sasuke stepped out of his room.
"You're guest was just trying to find his room." Neji said, smirking slightly.
Sasuke knew there was no point in trying to hide what was going on from Neji. He would figure it out anyway and by being secretive they were practically admitting to wrong doing.
"He's a prostitute. He's staying in my room. Do you have a problem with that?" Sasuke demanded, adjusting his posture and glare so it was apparent that if Neji did have a problem with it he better keep his damn mouth shut.
"Not if Hinata doesn't." Neji answered easily. He wasn't about to be drawn into a fight over something so senseless. What did he care if Sasuke was out buying boys on the street? His cousin was the only reason he was here.
"Let's go in Sasuke's room and get this over with. If your rib is out of place, I'm sure you must be in a lot of pain." Neji said as he walked into the bedroom. Naruto followed him automatically.
"Lay face down on the bed." Hmmmm... Where had Naruto heard that before? That familiar knot in the pit of his stomach came rushing back. 'I'm safe here. I'm safe here. I'm safe here.' He thought it over and over as Neji traced his fingers up and down Naruto's sides.
"This is going to hurt." Neji said as he pushed hard on Naruto's rib cage. Hurt wasn't the word for it; this was agony. Naruto lost his breath completely and the world around him went black.
"What did you do?" Sasuke growled as Naruto went limp on the bed.
"Fixed his rib. No need to thank me or anything." Neji said grumpily as he stood up.
"Thank you." Sasuke mumbled, not taking his eyes off of the taller boy.
"You're welcome." Neji replied, then paused, "You're sure he's not dangerous? I noticed you have quite a bruise on your forehead."
Sasuke tried not to show his surprise. He'd forgotten all about the encounter in the bathroom.
"This isn't anything I didn't deserve."
"That figures. I won't worry then."
"Good." Sasuke stood up and followed Neji to the door. "I'll take care of her Neji. No one's going to hurt her. I understand why you and I aren't friends anymore. It's my fault and I see that now, even if it's too late. You have to know that I will always take care of Hinata though. You believe that don't you?"
Neji was slightly surprised at Sasuke's admission of guilt. Maybe the classes Hinata had told him Sasuke was taking were finally working. He couldn't imagine the old Sasuke apologizing like that.
"I wouldn't let her stay here if I didn't think she was safe with you. Take care, Sasuke." With that he turned and left. Sasuke felt himself wanting to follow Neji out the door, but managed to keep his feet firmly planted where they were. Just because he was lonely didn't mean he should go down that road again. They'd tried it three times and it never worked.
He walked back over to the bed where Naruto was still passed out and sat down. He heard Hinata wish her cousin the best and then let him out the door. It was only a minute before she entered Sasuke’s room and sat down beside him.
"Naruto will be fine. It's not unusual for pain like that to make a person pass out. When he wakes up he'll feel much better."
"When do you think that will be?" Sasuke asked.
"It could be a few minutes; it could be the morning. I feel so bad for him. You never told me, did you manage to buy him for the week?"
"I bought him for two weeks actually. He looked like he might need some extra time to recover. While we have him here I was hoping we might be able to find out more about his situation; maybe find out if we can get him out of that life." Sasuke looked at the sleeping boy and brushed a stray hair off of his face. Naruto looked different now... peaceful.
Hinata teared up slightly at the gentle gesture.
"This is why I love you Sasuke. I wish everyone could see you like this."
Now it was Sasuke's turn to blush. He hated to admit it, but he loved when Hinata said things like that to him. He loved that someone thought he was a worthwhile person. To most everyone else he was just a pretty face with enough money to buy his way out of anything. Hinata never gave him that option. When he wronged her she demanded apologies not expensive bracelets, and when his life had fallen apart and all of his money was useless, she had taken a hold of him so fiercely that even when he pulled away, she wouldn't let go. She had never given up on him, and he was not going to give up on this sleeping cherub. He would fix this. They would fix this together.
"I think I'm going to go pack up the food. We can eat it for lunch tomorrow." she said as she stood up and stretched. "After that I’m going straight to bed. This night feels like it's lasted for three days." Before she turned to go she bent down and kissed Sasuke on the cheek.
"Have sweet dreams."
"You too. Sweet dreams, Hinata."
She shut the door as she left the room and Sasuke turned his attention back to Naruto. He was beautiful lying there in the soft lamp light. The bath had done wonders and his wounds looked much better now. He hadn't noticed it before, but Naruto had whisker-like markings on both of his cheeks. They looked like old scars, faded but still visible.
What had happened in this boy's life that could turn him into the person he was today? How badly did you have to be beaten down to start assuming that every person you met was only out to hurt you?
Sasuke took one last look at Naruto and stood up to put on his pyjamas. Normally he slept with nothing on, but for some reason he felt like it might be a better idea to have a little extra something between himself and the attractive boy in his bed. It was still a struggle not to get turned on by him. He probably wouldn't say that out loud to anyone, but it was only natural.
There was a certain appeal to having power over someone else and Sasuke wasn't immune to that pull. Knowing that you could force yourself on someone was amazingly seductive. Naruto had surprised him with the head butt in the tub, but if Sasuke went after him now, he had no doubt Naruto would comply without resisting. The dark haired boy was irritated to realize that now he wasn't just mildly turned on, he was extremely turned on. The flash in his mind of a bound Naruto wiggling underneath him only served to make Sasuke feel even more guilty. Was he really so sick that he got turned on by that? His body had responded and the growing evidence in his pyjamas could no longer be ignored.
He had a few options. He could rape Naruto... which immediately sounded like a bad plan. He could go downstairs and see if Gaara was home. They'd only met a few weeks ago, but that boy was the definition of a slut. He could go in the bathroom and finish himself off, but that could mean possibly running into Hinata... No, what he needed to do was gather up a bit of self-control and just will this all away.
He eased himself into the bed trying his best not to jostle the blond. If he woke Naruto up he might have to hear him pray again before he went back to sleep, and Sasuke had already decided the next time he thought about listening in on a prayer, it might be better for his sanity if he jumped out the nearest window.
Probably due to the alcohol he had imbibed earlier, sleep came quickly. A heavy curtain of darkness fell over his eyes and he could feel his breathing slow down and his heart grow sluggish. Naruto shifted beside him but Sasuke couldn't lift his eyelids. It was like they were glued shut.
It wasn't until he felt light breathing on his shoulder that he stirred back to a more aware state. Even then he knew it was just a dream so he wasn't too concerned. When he felt a wet heat licking at his earlobe and soft lips kiss up and down the side of his neck he became vaguely more attentive. This dream was strangely realistic, but still, nothing to open his eyes over. When gentle fingers started pushing against his growing hardness, that brought his mind around enough to consider that this might not be a dream, but why would Neji be back here? Hadn't he heard him leave?
After a few more minutes of kissing and petting Sasuke finally pulled his mind out of dreamland and peeked open one eye. It took him all of a second to realize it definitely wasn't Neji. Why had he thought that in the first place? It was odd what a sleepy brain would tell you to keep you asleep.
"Naruto?" Sasuke asked, his voice thick and drowsy.
"Hmm?" was the reply, whispered in the darkness.
"Am I dreaming?"
Naruto pinched Sasuke gently on his arm.
"You tell me."
Sasuke pushed himself up on to his elbows.
"Why are you doing this?"
Naruto didn't answer, instead choosing to suck urgently on Sasuke's bottom lip. The raven haired boy pulled away.
"Why are you doing this?" he asked again. His voice was firmer this time and in the moonlight that shrouded the room Sasuke saw fear flash across Naruto's face.
"You bought me for the week." Naruto confessed. "You should get something out of it. We don't have to tell Hinata." he whispered.
Sasuke shook his head hoping to heaven that this was a dream. How had his life gotten this complicated? Taking his lack of comment as an invitation to continue, Naruto kissed slowly down Sasuke's body until his face was at Sasuke's waist. Sasuke reached down, hooked his hands under Naruto's arms and drug the boy back up the bed so they were face to face again.
"Stop now if you don't want to be doing this. I'm not sure I'll have the will power to stop you a second time."
Naruto answered by lowering himself along Sasuke's body again, pressing against him and pushing his hands under the dark haired boy’s shirt. He looked so sexy outlined by the moonlight that even though Sasuke knew this was wrong, if Naruto was willing...
*Splish*
Something wet hit Sasuke on the stomach where his shirt had been pushed up a bit. Guessing what it must be, he reached over and turned on the lamp. Naruto looked up at him in surprise, silent tears streaming down his face.
Sasuke covered his face with his hands and then sat up, scooting away from the blond.
"Why are you crying?" Sasuke knew he sounded frustrated and he was sure he wasn't going to like the answer, but seeing as how it was probably his fault, he knew he should ask.
Naruto crawled up the bed toward him trying that sex kitten thing again. This time Sasuke was fully awake and as the younger boy reached out to touch him Sasuke caught him by the wrist.
"Stop doing that, dobe. I don't want you to touch me, I want you to tell me what's wrong."
Naruto looked like a deer frozen in the headlights. He stared at Sasuke, confusion written all over his wounded features. His expression changed slightly, his eyes widened a bit and he turned his face down so that he was looking up at Sasuke provocatively.
"If you don't want me to touch you, do you want to touch me?" Naruto practically purred out the words and Sasuke jumped back smacking his head against the headboard. That was the same voice Naruto had used in the bath right before he knocked Sasuke on his back.
"Do you have multiple personalities?" It was the only thing the Uchiha boy could think to say.
"You can do anything you want with me." Naruto's tone hadn't changed and now Sasuke was getting disgusted.
"Naruto, understand this. I.Do.Not.Want.To.Fuck.You.Right.Now." He enunciated every word so that there couldn't possibly be any misunderstanding. "I don't want to touch you. I don't want you touching me."
Naruto's face fell and then he stood up off the bed and proceeded to strip.
"What are you doing?" Sasuke shouted in a whisper. ’How did "I don't want to fuck you" turn into Naruto taking off his pajamas? This boy is mental.
"Where are my clothes?" Naruto demanded even as he cowered slightly under Sasuke's glare.
"What?"
"Where are my clothes? I don't see why you'd keep me here if you're disgusted by me. I'll get you a refund." Naruto was shaking violently as he spoke and Sasuke was more confused than ever.
"You do have multiple personalities, don't you?" Sasuke accused.
Naruto glared back at him. The taller boy noticed it was the first sexy face the blond has successfully made all night. Anger made him glow more angelic.
"Why do you keep saying that?" Naruto asked as he opened the closet door and dug around for his clothes.
"Because you keep changing moods. You're like a damn girl."
Naruto said nothing and took a step toward the bedroom door. Sasuke was faster though and stepped in front of it, leaning back so his weight would keep the door shut.
"Why won't you tell me where my clothes are? Why won't you let me leave? You already said you don't want me." Naruto was starting to cry again, his voice heavy with rejection.
"I didn't say that." Sasuke countered softly.
"I.don't.want.to.fuck.you, I don't want to touch you, I don't want you to touch me." Naruto said in a dead-on impression of Sasuke, complete with intonation and glare. "What does that mean then? I'm trash. You didn't have to say it; I know that's what you're thinking." Naruto spat out. He sat down hard on the bed, clearly upset and exhausted. Sasuke sighed and slumped down against the door.
"It doesn’t mean your trash. It means that Hinata won't be pissed at me tomorrow... or disappointed."
Naruto gave him a strange look and so Sasuke continued as he sat down next to the boy on the bed.
"Look, I'm not naturally a nice person. I don't like to talk about my feelings, and honestly, I don't think it would bother my conscience all that much to pay you twenty bucks and have you blow me in some downtown alley. However, I am trying to be nice, I am talking about my feelings, and I'm not going to have sex with you, because I would do anything, and I mean anything, not to let her down."
"Because she saved you?" Naruto asked.
"How did you..."
"You said that to her when you first bought me. You told her she'd saved you."
"I'd rather not talk about it." Sasuke said, purposely making his voice sound a little threatening in the hopes that Naruto would let it drop.
"Oh. Ok.” Naruto stammered out, making Sasuke feel a little guilty. “Do you want me to go? I can still get you a refund if you'd prefer that to keeping me." The golden haired boy looked down at the carpet as if it had suddenly gotten very interesting.
"Would they beat that thousand dollars out of you?"
Naruto's eyes got very wide.
"That's what you paid???" The blond couldn't believe Sasuke was willing to pay that much just so he could keep his chest wrapped and heal.
Sasuke felt warmth creeping into his cheeks. He hadn't meant to tell Naruto the amount. They sat in silence for a few minutes before Naruto inched closer to the boy next to him.
"They would definitely beat it out of me. That’s a lot of money." he sighed.
"Then I guess it's a good thing I don't want a refund."
