Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
Disclaimer: Yuh-huh. I don’t own Naruto. This has got to be one of the most obvious thing in the entire world. Do we even need a disclaimer for manga/anime? It’s not like the mangaka is going to write fan fictions about her/his own manga/anime…Unless their really bored or just trying something new…Bleh. I’m not one of ‘em.
I’m aware of Anko’s status and her skills. And I did plan an explanation. But I didn’t have the patience to stuff it in last time because of my essays. So I will stuff it here.
This is a boring chapter. Next won’t be as bad.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jiraiya was having trouble with the vending machine. He was hungry and hadeateeaten in hours. Plus he was trying to stay awake. This vending machine in particular, spewed hot, black coffee when fed a mere forty yen. Yet this machine appeared to be broken. It ate his yen and never spewed any liquid into the waiting cup.
Tsunade watched apprehensively as Jiraiya continuously kicked the machine. Luck appeared to be on his side. Hot, black coffee spilled into the Styrofoam cup. He grinned with glee and put nothing into it. He drank the contents in one gulp and burped. He needed more.
Genma was watching by the doorway of his room. After a few hours of wonderful, dreamless sleep, he had finally woken up. Much to his enjoyment, one of his teammates woke up as well. He did have to agree on one thing: he got some exercise while being around his cheery teammate.
Anko still found herself beat. She was clutching Genma’s shoulder for support often. Her knees shook slightly and she found herself in Genma’s arms on more than one occasion. At this scene, she scowled lightly. Not because of Jiraiya screaming as his tongue was burned from hot coffee, but because her whole body ached. Especially her vagina. Which she needed to speak to Tsunade about privately.
Genma stared at the room across the hall and to the left, two rooms down from the vending machine. Kakashi hadn’t woken up since last night after his attempted and failed leave. Genma felt sorry and amused all at once. Sorry because Kakashi had basically become ill and amused because Kakashi could become ill in the first place. He always thought of Kakashi as the healthy lazy-ass.
Anko wobbled down the hall, using the wall as a crutch. She walked past Tsunade and used Jiraiya as a short-time crutch before going back to the wall. She finally made it to Kakashi’s room after a long, slow walk.
To her surprise, Kakashi was sitting up. He appeared to have just woken up because he continuously rubbed his eyes. He looked rather horrible. Blood smeared itself in his hair. He was wearing a white t-shirt and an oxygen mask which basically covered his face and still no one could see his face. He was covered in bruises and scrapes. The cuts had been bandaged over. His t-shirt had tinges of red here and there. His breathing was hard and heavy. But she was mainly afraid of his skin. It was drastically pale and practically white.
Orochimaru is starting to look healthy to me…
She put on a cheery grin despite her own condition and shock. She sat on the bed and grinned in a way that reminded Kakashi of Naruto. “How you doing, idiot?” Kakashi’s two eyes curled into weak arcs. His answer was muffled by the oxygen mask. “Fine. How are you and Genma?” She shrugged. “Doing better. I can’t move for a month though. And Genma is…well, Genma. He’s an idiotic bastard so he’ll live.”
Kakashi nodded and leaned on the wall. His head hung down limply and he tried futilely to lift his head. Anko was torn between laughing and helping. She chose the latter and slapped his face, hard. Kakashi’s head snapped up. “I knew that’d work.” Anko gave a small peace sign.
He only shrugged. Anko shrugged along with him. “What’s going on here, Kakashi?” Kakasnly nly scratched his head. “What?” Anko stared. “Why do you try to ignore treatment? The last time you tried to ignore treatment, you fell and died…for seven minutes. But those minutes felt like years to everyone else…You were lucky that loud student of yours didn‘t give up easy. He kept punching you in the stomach ‘till the monitor beeped. But you ended up with internal bleeding because of that. And Tsunade-sama beat up Naruto…”
“Oh? I was wondering why I kept coughing up blood every few minutes.” Anko smacked his forehead lightly. “I’m not joking. Answer me.” Kakashi sighed. “Anko, do you ever question your existence? Like where or how you belong?” Anko tilted her head. “Huh? I don’t think I get what you mean…” Kakashi shook his head and that brought on a dull headache.
Genma came in. He looked amused. “You guys should see Jiraiya drink coffee. He doesn’t know the meaning of hot but he feels it. Hey, Kakashi. I can’t believe your sick.” Kakashi glared at Genma for a split second before faltering and only managed a weak scowl. He instead took a k fro from one of his holsters on the bedside table and cut along the back of his right hand.
Genma let his stick fall out of his mouth to the floor. Anko quickly tore the kunai away before Kakashi could fully cut off his hand. “What the fuck are you doing!?” Kakashi held his hand in midair. “Genma, since I just checked, I’m sure I’m still human. So I can get sick.”
Genma walked over and was tempted to whack his friend into a comYou You did that just to prove a point?” Kakashi shook his head. “No. That and to lessen the swelling. I was afraid my wrist would blow up because of the pressure.” Sure enough, his swollen wrist was slowly shrinking to original size as more blood dripped from the cut.
Genma shook his head. “What’re you sick with?” Kakashi shrugged. “Nothing big. A fever and cough.” Anko grinned and hit Kakashi over the head. Genma shrugged and pulled out another stick.
Kakashi felt his head lighten. His viswas was gradually failing him. Slowly, but surely enough, he lost consciousness while sitting up. Genma and Anko stared Kakashi, expecting him to open his eyes. He didn’t. Anko began to think she hit him too hard. Then she stared at his hand. A bead of sweat dropped from her forehead.
Anko took hold of his shoulders and let him down as gently as she could. She slid off the bed and Genma held her waist with one arm as she bandaged the added wound and pulled the covers over him.
“Stupid bastard. I swear he’s trying to kill himself.” While Anko knew Genma was only joking, she couldn’t help but think that was the case. She winced as she walked. It was time to speak to Tsunade.
---------------------------------
Naruto ran quickly to the hospital. He had already called Sakura the night before to inform her and she must’ve informed Sasuke. His run turned to a quick sprint with a burst of chakra.
Sasuke and Sakura waited in the lobby for Naruto. Sakura sighed impatiently. Sasuke gestured to Sakura and they both went off to find Kakashi’s room.
They eventually spotted Genma and asked him for directions. He happily pointed the way and went to sleep some more. Sasuke walked into Kakashi’s room and felt his knees weaken at the sight. Sakura couldn’t support herself without holding onto the doorframe.
They could see a lump covered by thin sheets he bhe bed. The only part they could see of him was from his head to his shoulders. His skin nearly blended with the white sheets. To them, he looked like a corpse with an oxygen mask, despite the fact that the monitor beeped slowly.
Sakura sat on the bed and gently shook the part of his arm she could see. He stirred lightly and sat up, wincing in the process. “Hello Sakura, Sasuke.” His voice was croaky from fatigue. Sakura stared at Kakashi cautiously, as if expecting him to drop dead at any given moment. Sasuke walked over and sat on a stool.
“How are you doing, sensei?” Kakashi shrugged. “Fine. Been better. You?” Sakura nodded. “We’re fine. Naruto’s on his way. I think he got lost or something.” Kakashi chuckled lightly. “Doesn’t sound like him. Maybe he’s eating ramen.” Sakura laughed and Sasuke couldn’t help but smirk. Definitely was the idiot alright.
That was until Naruto came charging into the room.
He panted slightly and grinned, flashing a peace sign in the process. “Hey, Kakashi-sensei! You look horrible.” Sakura sighed and smacked herself on the forehead. Sasuke merely narrowed his eyes and his eyebrow twitched. Kakashi just stared with half-lidded eyes.
Naruto was wearing his usual orange jumpsuit. He was carrying a tray of food. And it was stacked high. It was as if he had raided the hospital cafeteria on his way up. He grinned. “I was hungry. Thought you might want some. The nurses out there said you weren’t eating so I thought you might be hungry.”
Kakashi shook his head. “Eh, nah. You keep it. Not hungry.” Though his stomach grumbled otherwise. A bead of sweat dropped on the back of his head. Sasuke frowned while Sakura grabbed a donut from the stacked tray. Naruto shrugged. “Okay, whatever. Time to eat!”
Sakura ate lazily and hit Naruto over the head once in a while for bringing so much food. Naruto ate loudly as he tried often to dodge her attacks. Sasuke ate while staring at Kakas/P>
/P>
Naruto’s right. He definitely looks horrible.
“Oi, Kakashi. Why aren’t you eating? And don’t say you aren’t hungry. Your stomach is saying different. And I’m trusting the gut.” Kakashi turned his head from the window and narrowed his eyes slightly at being inquired.
Damn it. Mind your own business.
“I don’t have an appetite, despite what my gut says.” Sasuke raised his eyebrows. Naruto and Sakura were too busy hitting and dodging to notice the conversation at hand. “What happened on your mission?” Kakashi shrugged. “Our two teams were caught. Three of us survived while the rest were killed. Anko and her team rescued us. But not before the third guy died and Anko got raped.” Sasuke believed it. He’d already spoken to Anko earlier that morning. He walked over to the end of the bed and pulled up the chart.
Kakashi’s mind was going haywire in his head. Warning signals made themselves all too clear for him. And yet, he had no idea why. Why should he be worried that Sasuke was looking at his chart? He was a mess in the head. But outside, he was just his droopy-eyed self. Sasuke looked over the chart and was surprised.
Multiple small cuts, bruises, scrapes. Internal bleeding. Long gashes along the back, arms. Massive blood loss. Mass depletion of chakra. That was only half of it.
Kakashi watched amused and bemused as Sasuke’s eyes widened at his chart and gradually turned into a glare. He put the chart back and glared full scale at Kakashi. “That’s not like you. You had a difficult mission, but you usually pull through with much less than that.” Kakashi shrugged.
Naruto finished the plate before Sakura could even grab her fourth donut. Sakura looked at her watch. “Hey guys, I have to go. Running errands for my mom. Ja, ne!” She ran out the door as she waved. Naruto and Kakashi waved back but Sasuke was too preoccupied with his thoughts.
Sasuke was a bit exasperated at his vaguely answered questions. So vague, that nothing could be deciphered from the replies. “Kakashi, give me a straight answer. Why do you do this? I mean starving yourself and dying on purpose.” Naruto stared, rapt with attention. Kakashi pondered his answer and cursed in his mind.
Why can’t you just mind your own damn business?
“Sasuke, Naruto, have you two ever wondered if you belong in here? Or if you even should exist?”
Sasuke was taken aback. He expected to hear another horribly vague answer. To tell the truth, he never wondered about his belonging. He answered the question to his existence. It was to kill Itachi and revive the Uchiha clan.
Or was it?
Naruto pondered those questions often in his mind. He has been throughout most of his life. He always knew he belonged. Somehow he belonged. And his existence, he never questioned. He knew he belonged and for that to happen, he’d have to exist. He existed for acknowledgement. He only wanted some type of acknowledgement.
Or was there more?
Kakashi sighed, exasperated and exhausted. “Ponder these questions for a while and give me your answers later.” Naruto shook his head. “But that ain’t a straight answer!” Kakashi closed his eyes. “Give me an answer first and then I’ll give you one.” Naruto glared. “Then at least tell us why you don’t eat. You don’t have anything in your fridge.” Kakashi glared at Naruto with darkened eyes. “Since when did you break into my apartment?” Naruto’s glare faltered.
What the fuck were doing in my apartment? Shit…
Sasuke was ready to respond but Kakashi’s body sagged in it’s position and he lost consciousness once again. He fell back with a soft thud and Naruto pulled the covers over. He dragged Sasuke out.
Sasuke glared at the floor. “He never gives us a straight answer even now.” Naruto shrugged. “What did you expect? He’s Kakashi.” Sasuke turned his glare to Naruto. “You had to mention the fridge. Now he knows we were in his apartment.” Naruto shrugged sheepishly.
Sasuke shrugged. “Ah whatever. Let’s just keep an eye on him and we’ll see what we’ll do later.” They nodded at each other and disappeared in a puffs of smoke.
------------------------------------------------------
Anko was laying on her bed in the hospital and felt exasperated. She waited for Tsunade for a long time. And her patience was running out.
Damn it, you old hag! Hurry up!
And as if answering Anko’s mental cry, Tsunade came in looking irritated. She saw the look of confusion on Anko’s face and said, “Jiraiya.” Anko nodded as if understanding.
Tsunade sat on a stool. “Alright Anko. Do you mind answering a few questions?” Anko shook her head. “What happened when you found the three?” “We only found two. Genma and Kakashi. The other was already dead. We were ambushed as soon as we came. They tried to tell us it was a trap.
Why didn’t I listen?
“I was captured along with the two. I told the others to leave. I fought for a while before I was electrocuted from behind. I blacked out.
Kami, electricity hurts.
“I woke up in a dimly lit room. I was naked. I saw the other two hanging from the walls. I could barely move. There were four men, more or less. One came on top of me and you pretty much know the rest of that. I blacked out again during then.”
If I ever see those stupid weirdos again, I’m gonna give them such a beating they won’t ever forget!
Tsunade nodded and frowned. “Does it hurt?” Anko was relieved.
Finally, you get to the point!
“Yes. About everywhere.” Tsunade took out a bottle from her pocket and handed it to Anko. “Take about two pills a day. It dulls the pain ‘till everything heals.” Anko nodded gratefully.
Yes! Extra strength pain relief!
------------------------------------------------------
Naruto sat on the stone head of the Yondaime. The sunset was a beautiful blend of oranges, reds, and yellows, followed by the dark blue of the darkening sky. Naruto watched this everyday for the past few months. Since he failed his chuunin exam the second time.
He often found Kakashi sitting on the Yondaime’s stone head earlier than himself. Kakashi stared at the sky often. Sometimes he sat with his legs dangling over the edge of the head and sometimes with his knees hugged to his chest. Naruto took care not to bother him.
He remembered being caught once.
Kakashi wrapped his arms around his knees. Naruto sat on the steps, hiding him from view. Or so he thought.
“Oi, Naruto. I know your there.”
Naruto jumped. He stood up and slowly walked toward Kakashi and plopped himself down next to him. “Hi sensei. What’re you doing up here?” Kakashi continued to stare at the sky. “I could ask you the same thing.” Naruto nodded. “I like to watch the sunsets. It’s just easy to think up here.” Kakashi nodded slightly. “Same reason.”
Naruto turned his head to look at Kakashi. “What do you think about, sensei?” Kakashi closed his eyes as the breeze brushed up his mane of silver hair. “Life. Where I belong. Why I exist. And why Gai has to challenge me so much.” Naruto laughed.
“Your rivalry is weird.” Kakashi smiled under his mask. “Yeah. He annoys me a lot. But I deal with it easy. Rivalries are weird and dangerous.” Naruto looked up. “Dangerous? How?” Kakashi fell back and regained his composure. “As if yours isn’t dangerous…” He rubbed the side of his stomach as he said that.
Naruto understood what that meant. His and Sasuke’s rivalry had often endangered peoples’ lives. Namely, Sakura’s and Kakashi’s. Both ended up nearly dead many times because they were caught between one of Naruto’s and Sasuke’s heated fights.
He remembered one that only happened last month. Sasuke had provoked him too much and they ended up in battle. Sakura jumped in between the two as they used their most prized attacks: Rasengan and Chidori.
He grimaced. Kakashi had jumped in and pushed Sakura out of the way. He performed a few hand seals and his right hand was covered with the chidori. Blood spewed on impact. Naruto’s and Sasuke’s hands’ were each lodged on the same spot on the right side of Kakashi’s stomach. Their hands went through and they were seen on the back of his stomach. Kakashi’s own chidori had stopped most of the impact on Naruto’s rasengan.
Kakashi spat out a trail of blood on the grass and fell backwards as he blacked out. The next thing they knew, they were in the hospital watching as Tsunade tried to stop the bleeding. In the end, the heart monitor flat-lined.
He remembered himself idiotically punch Kakashi’s stomach. But he was surprised and nearly had a heart attack as that had worked. The monitor beeped. And then he remembered he and Sasuke receiving large bumps on their heads from Tsunade’s and Sakura’s fists.
Kakashi woke up a month later looking as dead as he had been before. But he grinned nonlessless. He ended up in the hospital so often, it was a miracle he hadn’t died completely.
The same usually went for Sakura. Sometimes she got in the way of their fights and there was no one to save her. She was burned by Sasuke’s fireball, beaten to a pulp by Naruto’s kage bunshins, and an even greater number of things. She had a broken leg last week because of Naruto.
He scowled. The two kept getting in the way. Because of this, he and Sasuke never finished a fight. Ever. Either Sakura or Kakashi or both of themays ays got hurt in the middle.
Why can’t they just get out of the way?
Because their human. You’ve done the same before.
What? What does that mean?
You idiot. They get in the way because they don’t want either of you to die. A human feeling.
So? We’re not stupid enough to kill each other.
Oh? Your actions said otherwise. Why else would the scarecrow let both techniques fall on himself and therefore result in his death? Well, sort of.
…
And why would the cherry blossom jump in front of a thousand of your clones and risk burning from his fireball just to stop you two?
…
It’s the fact that they care enough to stop you.
Why would they care? I’m a demon.
Idiot. May I remind you that I’m the demon and you’re the human host? You are still very much human. If you were a demon, you’d have destroyed this village by now.
That still doesn’t explain why they would care.
You have the same complicity as that silver-haired brat. Both of you don’t know who cares or worries about you. It’s annoying, you know.
Brat? And besides, I have a reason. I’ve got a demon sealed in me. It’s pretty much earned the loathing of all the villagers…
I’m old. All of you are brats in my eyes. Not everyhatehates you. If your teammates hated you, they would’ve loathed you just the same. And yet do you see them doing any of that?
…I hate it when your right…
And you know I’m right. You have more important matters to tend to.
We still have a month.
Perhaps. Or perhaps sooner.
Wha…?
Nevermind. Now let me sleep!
You were the one that wanted to talk to me!
And now I don’t!
Fine!
Naruto grinned. His conversations with the fox were vexing and useful all at once. He hated it.
--------------------------------------------------
Sakura strolled through the park, watching as the cherry blossoms flew off their branches and danced in the air around her.
She always loved cherry blossoms. Not because of her name. But because it just fit.
Sakura walked around in the park and smiled fondly at the blossoms that had yet to bloom. She plucked one off and cupped it in her hand.
The sound of something caught her ears. She turned around and screamed as Sasuke’s stoic face stared at her. “Sasuke! Don’t do that! What are you doing here?” He shrugged. “Just watching the blossoms.”
Sasuke was intoxicated at the sight of her. The cherry blossoms danced around her as if waiting on her every whim. She gracefully pulled back her hair futilely as it danced around her pale face. His stomach turned and he couldn’t understand this feeling.
They walked together comfortably for a few minutes be Sak Sakura turned to face Sasuke. She had made up her mind. And it was time to do it before she would stop. “Sasuke…I used to had a crush on you. And it was totally obvious.”
Too obvious. So obvious that everyone knew.
“I thought I loved you. I ignored Naruto and my training because of my crush. I lost sight of what was important. I nearly lost the people I care for because of this crush.
I never trained then…You almost killed Naruto and Kakashi because of your stupid vengeance…
“Sasuke…I no longer have any crush on you. I deluded myself into thinking I loved you. You can stop worrying about me being a nuisance to you. I won’t be weak anymore.
I won’t bug you anymore. I won’t lose anymore.
“I had loathed you for a time. Because of your stupid seal, you thought everyone you saw was Itachi. And you took it out on Naruto and Kakashi because they were the closest…
But…
“And I did nothing to stop you. Because I thought you saw some sort of illusion I could not. But when your chidori struck both of them through…
I knew it was no illusion.
“I thought they were dead. It was the worst feeling I ever felt. Even worse than when you left.
I thought I lost them…
“And then they got up. And despite the holes and the blood, they stopped your seal.
I felt so relieved…
“And then all three of you collapsed.
I didn’t know what to do.
“I don’t want to have to feel that again, Sasuke.
I can’t be weak anymore.
“I have to start seeing things on my own.
I can’t depend on you now like I did then.
“Or I’ll end up losing everyone I care about.
My first crush…my last…I thought I loved you…Goodbye Sasuke-kun.
“Goodbye Sasuke.”
Sakura walked away, leaving a heartbroken Sasuke to stand there alone.
He couldn’t comprehend what she said. Had she been thinking about this for so long? Had she really hated him?
He didn’t know what to think. Sakura used to follow him and waited on him hand and foot, listening to his every whim.
Yet all it took to shatter her illusion was his vengeance. His vengeance clouded his mind and he nearly killed the other two. That was all it took to wake her up.
Sasuke walked home. Even though he didn’t losr, hr, he still did in a way. He felt empty, like a large void was waiting to be filled.
But it wasn’t his revenge that was to fill it.

Here it is. And there’s explanations filled in there for those of you that are confused.
Man, my fingers are beat. I typed all day listening to Evanescence and Tori Amos. The music isn’t bad. I used to think it was.
