Kakashi just finished checking out his new apartment. He had everything he needed including clothes, food and a balcony. Admittedly, he cheated a little getting there by sneaking in without being seen. However, he didn’t think it’d be a big deal. Now he was ready to put on his best smile and he did his best impression of Naruto as he walked out into the village.
Naruto was always the helpful sort so he decided to start his task by helping with repairs to the village. Of course, something about remembering that Naruto was nice and helpful made him spiral into the depressing realization about how stupid he was. Perhaps that’s why he completely missed the unwelcoming atmosphere coming from around him until it was too late.
“Filthy demon.” Someone said hatefully and that was the only warning Kakashi got before someone came up behind him.
Kakashi ducked a swing from a crowbar, “Hey-“ Kakashi let his sentence drop completely when he turned and saw that he was surrounded. It was only civilians, but they all had something that could be used as a weapon and they looked furious. “Is something wrong?”
“Oh shut up you demon shit!” The normally kind clerk for a nearby store snapped.
Another person nailed Kakashi’s head with a rock, “No one wants you here especially after what you did to Sasuke!” Someone in the crowd yelled and several people agreed.
“Hey, Naruto! I need your help with something.” Kiba called out when he appeared on the roof of a nearby building with Akamaru.
Kakashi’s jaw dropped as the entire murderous atmosphere was replaced by smiling civilians so fast that Kiba never saw, “Yeah … I’m coming.” He called back while rubbing the deep bruise on his head and quickly followed Kiba. “Umm … Kiba, did you see …” Kakashi let his sentence drop when he recalled a few occasions where Naruto started saying something similar. He knew there was no point bringing it up to Kiba since even Kakashi himself didn’t believe it when Naruto wanted help.
“I almost missed it before when Naruto first joined my team. They’re good at being two faced, aren’t they?” Kiba said when he noticed the contemplative look on the fake blonde’s face. when that look changed to shock he chuckled. “Yes, Kakashi, I know it’s you. A lot of ROOT agents had to leave so the hokage asked me and Akamaru to watch you.”
“If you know about the villagers then why aren’t you doing anything? Is that what I’m supposed to do?” Kakashi asked, feeling really pissed about how casual Kiba seemed.
Kiba hummed in thought, “We could arrest them. We could force them to be nice to Naruto. What would that change for Naruto now? Would it make them actually see him as human or will he just get more hate that could go as far as the council?” Kiba said pointedly and he had to stop mid step when he saw Kakashi stop in his tracks. “Naruto has been through this for his entire life and now he has a way to live near without settling the villagers off … or he did until the bet happened.”
Kakashi paled slightly, “What do you mean?”
“To be fair our sensei and Hinata got a bit carried away when trying to find out more details about Naruto … it pissed off a lot of villagers.” Kiba said sheepishly.
Kakashi’s henged blue eyes widened, “I’m here to let-“
“You’re the lightning rod.” Kiba said bluntly. “Naruto has handled that position since birth. Can’t you handle it for a few months?” He asked, but with a tone that hinted that he really had no choice.
“I get it.” Kakashi said, sounding a little amused, but he did turn serious. “This is something I can handle … now that I finally understand it.” Kakashi said before turning around and finding a more efficient means of getting beaten by villagers, but only making the injuries look bad.

Tsunade sat on the head of a massive stone statue near the well known waterfall, “I guess it’s too much to ask that one person actually completes the job they’re given.” She said seemingly to no one, but after a second dozens of ROOT agents surrounded her and Danzo walked out of the forest.
Danzo sighed, “I understand your anger-“
“Then explain it.” Tsunade said before turning to look Danzo right in the eye. “Tell me why I’m pissed.”
The ROOT leader held up a hand to signal his men to stand back when he saw them tense as Tsunade moved closer, “You have lost a lot of people because of the ninja career-“
“Despite not even being one for the last two decades.” Tsunade said sharply, making everyone tense up.
“Yes, you left. You had every right to do so. Not many people can take the darkness that comes with being a ninja and no one should have to. You made your choice and Shizune made hers.” Danzo said and frowned when he saw Tsunade’s jaw clenched. “So that is why you took this path-“
“Oh shut up and stop speaking as if it wasn’t a massive mistake that shouldn’t have happened.” Tsunade said with a harsh glare. “She offered to help one of Hiruzen’s teams and you both let her die. It’s just that simple. Why the hell didn’t any reinforcements arrive? They were only half a day from the village. Even Kakashi was in the village so what’s your excuse?”
Danzo sighed, “The request for assistance came at the exact time when Hiruzen was busy with the exam and I was dealing with three escaped patients.”
Tsunade scowled furiously, “What type of patients could possibly cause so much trouble that you couldn’t send one team an hour earlier?” She snapped, making all the agents flinch.
“These are.” Fu said as he stepped forward. With a quick hand sign he did the reverse of his usual mind jutsu and pulled out a copy of a memory. That memory played like a movie on the ground. “They were overpowered and completely unstable … too far gone to be saved. We had a great deal of trouble stopping them and in the end we had to execute them. The danger meant no one could really leave … as for Kakashi, he kind of has fucked up priorities.” He said as he backed away so Tsunade could approach the memory without thinking they’d jump her.
The highly skilled medic scoffed as she stepped forward and her eyes widened at the sight of the demonized patients, “What the hell happened to them?”
Danzo frowned, “They volunteered to assist someone who goes through episodes of heat. Unfortunately, we found out that those moments of lustful activity make that person’s chakra toxic … we figured that out far too late. The situation is safely handled now, but none of the treatments we tried helped reverse the damage on those three.” He said as he looked down at the memory that showed how difficult it was to stop the patients.
“I see. Exactly why was Kakashi busy?” Tsunade commented seemingly indifferently, but she never took her eyes off the gruesome features of the very strong demonic patients.
“He was training Sasuke for the three months before the exam … clearly it wasn’t an efficient use of his time.” Danzo said dryly as he watched Tsunade’s movements carefully.
The former medic scoffed, “Of course. Konoha does love its bloodlines. If Shizune had a bloodline perhaps someone in Konoha wouldn’t have taken that as a higher priority.” Tsunade mused with some bitterness in her tone.
“I take it that’s why you tried to trick Kimimaro into helping you get Sasuke for you. You wanted to make a point.” Danzo said with a sigh.
Tsunade huffed, “Those who hold the bloodline holds the power …or just the balls.” She said with a careless shrug implying that she didn’t intend to keep all of Sasuke alive.
Danzo snorted, “I’m sad to say that your plan might’ve worked. If you had just given Kimimaro a stronger dose of whatever you gave him.”
“The adrenaline and steroid mix.” Tsunade muttered in annoyance. “I didn’t think his body would burn it away so quickly. He’s dead then, I take it.” She said indifferently.
Danzo didn’t react at all to that comment to avoid any other subjects, “How do you want to proceed? We know Orochimaru was the main attacker and he was caught. Sasuke is … he’s still extra crispy, but in the village. We could let this be-“
“Let it be? What’s this supposed to be? Pity?” Tsunade spat in disgust.
The ROOT leader shook his head, “Hiruzen and I have known you for a long time. You’re a powerful fighter and are very willing to wield your strength like Shizune. You never don’t let people know when you’re pissed and it’s usually with a fist to the face, which is why we were wondering why you just let Orochimaru take control or let someone else get Sasuke.”
A strong wind whipped around Tsunade and her chakra crackled dangerously in the air around her, “You don’t think I’m serious?”
“No … and yes.” Danzo said vaguely. “I think you are heartbroken and furious, rightly so, but you know everyone in Konoha isn’t responsible.”
“At least, not for Shizune. They could be punished for other reasons.” Fu muttered and coughed sheepishly when Danzo shot him a look for saying more than necessary. “Sorry, sir.”
Tsunade raised a curious eyebrow after that exchange, “Assuming you’re right, what will happen? I’m not getting off that easily, am I? Unless Hiruzen really has become senile in his old age.”
Danzo twitched, “Hiruzen and I are the same age.” He muttered to himself, feeling a little annoyed by the comment. “He has a different punishment in mind, but it will involve being in the village … I suppose that counts as a punishment.” Danzo said when he saw the disgusted look on Tsunade’s face.

Naruto blinked as his sensei immediately left with Fu and Danzo to go find Tsunade, “Sooo … should I move him or what?” He pondered out loud as he looked at the crystal coated Kimimaro just lying in his kitchen.

Just be glad she retracted the chain and leave it at that.” Naruto warned as he started the water boiling and relaxed on the couch. “Your siblings are here.”
“What?” Gaara said and just as he pulled his face out of the towel he saw his sister. Temari, and brother, Kankuro, walking through the door with Konohamaru. “Hey-“
“Don’t you hey us! Why’d you go? We were worried.” Temari scolded as Konohamaru heard the kettle go off and went to get it since Naruto looked exhausted.
Gaara looked a little nervous as his sister checked him for injuries, “I was asked to help with training-“
“In the rain? Are you ok?” Kankuro asked in a less fussy way.
“Hey! What about me?!” The annoyed plushy snapped.
“You,” Temari hissed as she narrowed her eyes dangerously at the demon. “Are a thousand times less threatening as a plush.” She hissed and that comment definitely hurt because Shukaku started sulking.
Just as Naruto was handed a cup of tea the Sand siblings said goodbye and dragged Gaara out of the cottage, “Well … that was fast. Am I that boring?” Naruto joked as he took the tea and sipped it.
Konohamaru chuckled as he sat on the couch, “No, but those two were freaking out when they couldn’t find Gaara after only so long. I found them while helping with repairs and I had a guess where Gaara would be after they described the ‘crazy lady’ who took him.” He said as his eyes lingered on the blonde’s damp clothes.
“I guess that's fair. They probably won’t think Gaara’s safe until the person who attacked Utakata is caught. Danzo actually just left so we’ll know if Tsunade is detained or not soon.” Naruto said and after another sip of the steaming tea he put the tea down on the table so he could remove his damp jacket and shirt.

Big brother might agree that you really need to catch the soul to properly control our power.” She pondered out loud and Kurama nodded in agreement.
Naruto hummed in thought, “So if this plushy process was repeated for each demon vessel and then go to a ninja free place, like Pelidnota-“
“It would destroy the ability for people to effectively target demon vessels and all our siblings could be together!” Kurama exclaimed and pulled Naruto into a very deep kiss. “I love you!” He said as he wrapped his legs around Naruto’s waist.

Saiken giggled, “You say that, but you’re still watching.” She said cheerfully, making him cover his red face with a couch pillow in embarrassment as Kurama and Naruto chuckled too …
