Last Time:
Ino never saw the concerned look on the puppet’s face as it started making a batch of cookies so Inoichi wouldn’t get suspicious. Both the Tori clone in the puppet and the real Tori were worried about the events taking place in Mist …

Just as everyone was bracing for impact Hinata’s eyes widened, “Something is sprouting out of the walls.” She said and everyone looked out the windows.
They saw the ice wall shatter as a large white spear grew out of the earth behind it. Several other spears came out of that wall and from the bank on the opposite side of the underwater tunnel they were in. The white spears may have given off the appearance of the deadly teeth of a massive monster and made it look like they were being eaten as the teeth closed in, but that’s not what was happening.
Those spears had created a jagged, yet protective, canopy. After a few seconds of smooth sailing everyone realized that the largest and most dangerous debris had stopped hitting the submarine. There was a loud crash in the water above them, but beyond a shudder going through the submarine and a showr of small debris chunks there was no damage.
“That was very close.” Hinata said with a sigh of relief. “Whatever those spears are, they caught the biggest of the boulders … something small and fast is swimming around the captured debris. It looks like a girl.”
Nearly every single person jumped out of their skin when the sound of a sharp slap startled them. After a moment everyone saw Naruto with his palm pressed firmly against his face. It seems the startling slapping sound was just the blonde face palming for some odd reason.
“I should’ve known that Orochimaru couldn’t wait.” The blonde muttered in a mixture of amusement and annoyance. “I’m going to assume the things that grew out of the tunnel walls are bone spears, which means the girl coming towards us is an ally.” He said and a moment later the girl with gills and colorful scales covering her body swam past each window. When she swam up to the submarine windows and saw everyone standing there she waved. “Yep. If they’re here then it should be safe to surface.”
The captain noticed the girl was pointing in a certain direction. They did have to get out from under the protective canopy of bones before going up to the surface. If the ninja was correct then this girl, who was miraculously breathing under the water, was pointing out a safe path. With great care the submarine was steered exactly how the water breathing girl directed. After several minutes of concentration and many ‘adorable mermaid’ comments the submarine finally broke the surface. With a crank the hatch opened and everyone started climbing out of the submarine.
“Well that went well-“ Zabuza, who was standing on the shore proudly with 7 people, started to say smugly, but Naruto bopped him hard on the head. “What the hell?! I saved-“
“Oh bullshit! Kimimaro, Kidimaru, Jirobo, Tayuya, Sakon and Isaribi saved us! What the hell were you doing?! Your only job was to make sure the last leg went smoothly. That wasn’t smooth!” Naruto snapped, somehow managing to get multiple swats to Zabuza’s head before the guy could even use his massive sword as a shield.
Tayuya blinked, “How the fuck do you assholes know our names?” She exclaimed as all the other people left the submarine and the girl nimbly leapt out of the water. As everyone gathered together the girl shifted into so she looked more like a normal non-gill using human, but her scales became tattoos.
The tall burly guy named Jirobo groaned in annoyance, “Stop swearing already. This is gramps’ friend so why wouldn’t he know us?” He said sarcastically as he subtly burned the team of dead Mist ninjas with an earth jutsu.
Hinata snickered, “Yeah, Orochimaru brags about you guys constantly. He uses it as an excuse to do a monthly test of the mailing birds. I didn’t expect to see you guys here of all places.” She explained earning embarrassed blushes from Orochimaru’s adopted kids.
“Neither did I.” Naruto said casually as he left Haku to tend to the steaming lumps that were throbbing on Zabuza’s head. “We can talk more when we’re in a much safer area.” He said before he glanced at the captain as he put his mask on, which changed his hair to black this time. “Thank you for your help getting us beyond the border. Can you and your crew make it back ok?” Naruto asked the civilian captain and his crew as Sasuke, Kakashi Gaara, Sakura, Shikamaru, Hinata and Shino put their own masks on.
The captain nodded, “As long as we have no more troublemakers then yes.” He commented shooting Zabuza an annoyed look before turning around and returning to the submarine with his crew.
Naruto nodded, “Haku, lead the way.” He said and Zabuza’s apprentice, who was wearing a Mist hunter-nin mask, took off to lead the way.
Zabuza scoffed and held his aching head as he followed the large group of ninjas, “Great. We weren’t supposed to travel in such-“
“A large group in order to avoid trouble? Yes I do recall that, but then I also remember that you were supposed to make a safe meeting point.” Naruto quipped back as everyone followed the masked ninja called Haku. “If not for these guys this plan would be dead in the water and quite literally … did you even try to disguise yourself?”
“He didn’t want to hide his abs.” Haku commented before Zabuza could say anything.
Zabuza glared, but before he could say anything else Hinata’s hand shot out. The chakra charged fingertips poked Zabuza’s jaw, completely disabling it. If it wasn’t for the white bandages wrapped around the lower half of his face then his numb jaw would be hanging limply. Of course, even though the bindings held his jaw up he still couldn’t talk. The sulking swordsman was ignored for the rest of the trip. After all, it sounded like it was his easily recognizable ass’ fault that the submarine was almost destroyed when the Mist ninjas attacked Zabuza.
Thankfully, Haku’s ability to lead everyone to the rebel’s campsite was better than Zabuza’s ability to secure a meeting point. Just before it became dark they entered the area where they were met by two watchful rebel guards. With both Haku and Zabuza, who regained feeling in his jaw, speaking for them, they were all allowed into the hidden campsite. Of course, they were immediately taken to the leader of the rebels, Mei.
“I was starting to think you screwed up.” The beautiful and powerful woman with long auburn hair said as she glared at Zabuza who quickly led everyone to the main tent.
Zabuza huffed, “Whatever … this is the guy I told you about. His group should be able to subdue the Mizukage and, if we’re right, remove whoever is controlling him.” He said as he pointed to Naruto.
Naruto nodded, “We recently confirmed that there is a powerful person who is capable of controlling demon vessels in the area. A man named Obito Uchiha actually.”
“And you think you can stop him without killing Yagura? He is very strong and has excellent control over the three tailed demon.” Mei said and gestured for one of her subordinates to spread out a detailed map on the table in the large tent.
“Yes. I’m well versed in seals. Also my friend and I are demon vessels, which means we can get closer than anyone without being hurt by the demon chakra. That’s also why we can’t risk being identified right now.” Naruto explained from behind his mask.
The rebel leader’s eyes narrowed seriously, “Zabuza and Haku have told me about your own troubles behind the scenes … do you believe this issue is connected to everything else?” She asked and she sighed when the masked ninja nodded. “I see … if you stop this, what do you want us to help with afterwards? We’re barely hanging on here so we won’t be able to do much.”
Naruto nodded, “For now just keep this quiet until we can finish up. The people manipulating Obito need to be stopped. Once we do that can you publicly announce what happened? We’ll need to convince several more people and the more evidence the better.”
Mei nodded slowly, “If you can free Yagura we’ll help … the most we know is that he stays in the tower here.” She said as she pointed to the tower marked on the map. “The last time he was spotted leaving was when some of our own managed to get inside … they didn’t last long. Yagura spread pieces of them all over the area every time he attacked.”
Sakura looked at the map as Naruto used a seal to quickly copy the map, “How did they get in?”
“On the east side of the tower there was some damage after a storm.” Mei explained as she pointed to the rock cliff east of the tower. “This cliff collapsed and ripped a hole in the wall. We took the opportunity to get in during the construction. Most of the construction was completed a few days ago after our failed attempt, but that area is still unstable and our spy in the cliffs said there are a few workers still there.”
Hinata hummed, “So he might still be expecting an attack on that spot.”
“Could also be a trap.” Naruto commented thoughtfully. “We’re in a time crunch so we’ll get in position.” He said and looked at six people who weren’t wearing masks. “You guys traveled on foot and already saved us from Zabuza’s screw up so will you need to recover?” Naruto asked right in front of Mei, who then glared at a Zabuza. The swordsman seemed to realize that he was in trouble and was almost trying to get out of the tent. Unfortunately, all of Naruto’s team just happened to block the exit and would not let him pass.
Tayuya smirked at the smooth and casual way Naruto ratted out Zabuza, “Fuck no. We’re good!”
Jirobo rolled his eyes, “As long as her constant cussing doesn’t bug anyone then yes we’re good to go.”
“Women cursing never bothered me. Means you’re touching the right spots.” Naruto joked casually as he took his copy of the map. As Tayuya smirked he turned to Mei. “I’ll send this once we know the plan.” He said showing her a species of bird popular in Mist, but it turned out to be wooden and hollow.
Mei nodded, “We’ll provide back up when you guys need it.” She stated with determination. However, once the team of non Mist ninjas left her arm shot out and grabbed Zabuza by the neck before he could escape. “Everyone, get ready to attack.” She ordered and the subordinates immediately left to spread the word, which left Haku. “Give us a moment.” She said as her eyes narrowed on the swordsman.
Zabuza paled, “No! Haku, don’t leave!” He pleaded, but his apprentice basically ran out of there without any hesitation. “I can explain.” He gulped fearfully.
“Then do it.” Mei said threateningly.
Before Zabuza could talk himself out of anything Haku poked his head back in, “Before he blames me I want to say that I had a disguise. He refused to wear his and Mist ninjas spotted him … just saying.” He said and quickly left again.
Mei glared at the trembling swordsman, “All of this shit going on and you refused to be as careful as possible. Why?”
“It was itchy-“ the end of that sentence was punctuated by a scream that should be too high pitched to be Zabuza’s voice, but considering the two things she grabbed and twisted it made sense that his voice could go so high …

“Thank god.” Shikaku murmured under his breath as he swiftly removed some records hidden in the council records room. After sealing away the information he walked out of the room where the puppet that looked remarkably like his son was waiting. “There’s no major evidence, but I got records from Tori’s mission. Obviously fake and I found receipts for a lot of money going to the ramen stand.” He whispered as they got out of the hokage tower.
Shikamaru nodded through his puppet, “Good. Hopefully, that can be used to convince Tsunade and Jiraiya to listen to- …” The conversation immediately paused when Mizuki was seen coming around the corner. “Anyway, it was a pretty cool mission.”
For a second the Nara clan head thought Shikamaru was covering so the instructor didn’t hear anything. However, he saw a warning look being exchanged between Mizuki and Shikamaru. Just as the instructor passed by, Inoichi came around the corner.
Inoichi smiled, “Talking about your first mission. Ino told me all about it.”
“I’m sure. Is she still annoyed at me?” Shikamaru asked, silently savoring the fact that Inoichi actually slipped up and allowed a look of confusion to cross his face. “I really didn’t know the ground was that muddy when Kiba asked to spar. To be fair she probably shouldn't be standing near a sparring session if she can’t handle getting a little muddy.” Shikamaru casually lied while doing a great impression of a person who didn’t want Inoichi dead.
Inoichi chuckled, “She’ll get over it. I’ll see you guys later.” He said and affectionately patted Shikamaru’s shoulder. “You’re taking after your father. How about our families meet up sometime this week? Maybe we should have dinner to celebrate your first mission.“
“Yes, of course.” Shikaku said only to very subtly clench his jaw in anger the second Inoichi walked away. He walked away with Shikamaru close to him. “Mizuki?”
Shikamaru scowled, “Puppet … he wasn’t planned.” Shikamaru muttered implying that it was a story for a more private setting. When they jumped quickly across the rooftops he thought it was safe enough to ask a question.. “I assume his meet up means more than what Inoichi implies?” The puppet asked curious about his father’s reaction.
“It’s more like the meetings.” Shikaku whispered furiously, surprisingly his son’s puppet. “We need to speed things up.”
The Shikamaru puppet frowned, “Things are moving. The sand creeper is down and the mist will hopefully be cleared tomorrow.” He reported, but despite the good news they knew they couldn’t risk making a single mistake.
