Last Time:
All that aside, it was time for the third round of the exam, which was Gaara vs Sakura …

“Oh shit.” Kakashi yelped when he finally remembered about Sakura. “Sakura shouldn’t be fighting.” He gasped, looking genuinely worried.
Kurenai raised an eyebrow, “Why would you enter them if someone isn’t strong enough? They had to be good as a team and individually … Kakashi.” Kurenai hissed, demanding an answer.
“I thought Naruto and Sasuke would get her through the team portion and she’d get weeded out during the preliminary round.” Kakashi admitted as he looked down at the pinkette nervously.
The genjutsu specialist blinked, “You mean the preliminary round that didn’t happen because the number of people who passed was low enough that it wasn’t needed?” She asked and gave an annoyed sigh when Kakashi nodded. “You’re an asshole.” She said even more pissed at him now that she knew he basically neglected two students.
Guren scoffed, “Don’t think about it. Naruto wanted to put in the effort to learn and train. Sakura only had Uchiha babies on her mind and she’s a bitch. It wasn’t your job to pick up all the slack Kakashi left behind.” She said when she saw a flicker of guilt in Kurenai’s eyes. No doubt she felt a little bad for only helping Naruto.
“True.” Kurenai said feeling a bit better. “Besides, the third round for the exam isn’t what’s important.” She commented, subtly reminding everyone that a bigger battle was about to start.
Everyone in Naruto’s group of friends understood what that meant and tensed. Even Kakashi forced himself to not think about his devastating loss and stay alert.

Sakura heard the referee announce her name and looked around to see who her opponent was, “Gaara huh? He doesn’t look too tough.” She said, sounding very relieved when she saw the red haired ninja disappear in a swirl of sand and appear in the arena. “Ok. I got this!” She said excitedly and shot Naruto a nasty glare. “Then you’ll pay for hurting Sasuke.”
Hinata hummed thoughtfully, “He’s on the Sand team … hey, Shino. Didn’t your insects say the Sand team killed another team in the forest?” Hinata asked out loud right as Sakura was walking to the door she accidentally broke.
Despite still having Naruto’s arms wrapped around his waist Shino adjusted his glasses casually, “Yes. Only one Sand ninja crushed an entire team to death. That was him.” He said casually and they heard a squeak of fear behind them.
Kiba’s lips twitched and tried not to laugh as he looked over his shoulder at Sakura, “Good luck!”
“Yeah.” A very pale Sakura stuttered before looking at the blonde. “Umm … Naruto-“
“You should hurry up or you’ll never get in the arena let alone avenge Sasuke.” Naruto commented knowing very well that she was going to ask for weapons or something.
Sakura huffed at the mention of Sasuke and stomped out of the room, “Fine! Idiot!” She yelled up the stairs, unintentionally hurting her own ears because of the echo carrying her shrill voice. “I don’t need help from him.” She muttered as she stepped out onto the arena ground and walked towards her opponent.
The referee looked from Sakura to Gaara, “Ready?” He asked while deliberately looking back at the pinkette, who he seemed the most concerned about. When both competitors noticed he raised his arm. Begin!” He said and jumped back to get out of the way.
“I’ll let you go first. Make it count.” Gaara said indifferently.
Sakura was thankful for her forethought while going through the forest before they got to the tower. She was able to get weapons, which were just lying around or from the many times Naruto stripped a team. With her stock of weapons she was able to feel a little better about this. After taking a deep breath the pink haired ninja armed herself with a few shuriken. However, she found out pretty quickly that she was out classed.

Orochimaru smirked as he walked into a hideout made from someone’s home and saw his new ally in a makeshift hospital room, “I marked the Uchiha with my curse seal. Do you have any news, Tsunade?” He asked his ally, who was looking at a clipboard that had test results for the young white haired man on the hospital bed.
“It looks bad, but I should be able to reverse the disease fairly easily. A simple shot of some homemade medicine and a few weeks rest is all it’ll take.” The slug sage said indifferently.
“Very good.” Orochimaru said with a disturbing smile on his face. “I want the Uchiha to get a little more skilled before I take his body. Kimimaro was able to help me kill the kazekage so he will be a decent replacement for now.”
Tsunade nodded, “I can see why. He is strong. Although I am looking forward to you leveling this village and taking the Uchiha.”
“A devastating blow for sure. They might never recover from it.” Orochimaru said with his tone practically oozing with a sadistic glee. “Apparently there isn’t going to be a preliminary round this time. The final round will be much sooner than expected.”
“I look forward to it.” Tsunade said with a smile before looking back at the information on the clipboard in her hand.
The snake sage’s curious eyes narrowed in on the medic, “You’re serious about this … I know you haven't been on good terms with Konoha, but you weren’t hateful. Exactly what happened?” He asked more just to satisfy his curiosity than comfort an old teammate.
“They took one person too many from me.” Tsunade said in a cold tone that even unnerved Orochimaru.
Orochimaru nodded, getting the point, “I see. Would you care to be with me or with the party attacking the village?” He asked pleasantly.
Maybe he would’ve asked for more details, but he didn’t want to lose this partnership now. Also he realized that someone was missing. The snake sage wanted to double check the last report he had on her, but he recalled that Tsunade had an apprentice not long ago. That might explain this rather sudden change in the slug sage.
“I’ll deal with the village, but I will help you get Hiruzen in his cage … I have something to say to him.” Tsunade growled softly as her fingers grip the clipboard a bit too hard in her anger. “I’ll get the medicine made before the party starts. I should have everything … if I don’t I’ll order it while people still believe I’m a friend.” She said with a smirk.
Orochimaru snickered at the suggestion, “I love your style. Now if you’ll excuse me. I have to try on the late Kazekage’s robes to make sure they fit properly.”
“Have fun.” Tsunade commented casually as she stood up and walked over to an empty part of the dining room table that held up the heart monitor next to the bed.
With Orochimaru out of range Kimimaro’s eyes weakly opened when she came close, “Please don’t … cure me. I don’t want -“ A violent fit of coughs stopped him from completing his sentence.
“Is it that you don’t want to live or don’t want to be a sacrifice?” Tsunade asked indifferently and she glanced at the patient who was coughing up blood. “If you could live and get away would you?”
“I can’t.” The patient gasped as he weakly touched the chest of his hospital gown. “There’s a … curse seal.” He croaked as a bit of blood dribbled from his lips.
The medic scoffed, “I can remove that easily. Now tell me, would you?” She asked and could see a look of hope in the patient’s eyes. “Then whether I help you or not it doesn’t matter. I need to make the medication so be quiet as I work.”
After the white haired patient fell silent she pulled a scroll out of her robes. One by one she unsealed several airtight containers. In each container was a different herb known for various medicinal qualities. However, none of them were herbs known for helping with a respiratory illness like the one Kimimaro seemed to have.
No one was able to see the exact process, but if someone had then it’d be clear that something was off. As the ingredients were mixed and processed over the following day it became a fluid. The resulting medication would be known to most medics, but not as a cure. In reality it was a strong pain reliever and completely temporary.
“Is everything ready?” Orochimaru asked as he flounced into the room wearing the kazekage’s robes.
Tsunade flicked the needle that was filled with a supposedly important cure, “I completed it hours ago and it just finished binding together. All that is left is to inject it. He shouldn’t be made to fight in the ambush, but he’ll be good to travel on his own two feet by the start of the ambush.”
Orochimaru smirked as he watched the needle pierce Kimimaro’s pale skin, “Perfect timing! The last part of the exams will start in only a couple hours. How do I look?” He asked as he did a twirl.
The slug sage finished injecting the medicine and smirked, “You pull them off better than their previous owner.” Tsunade said as she applied pressure to the injection site until it stopped bleeding.
“I know! Now get your disguise. I need to be there as Rasa in a few minutes.” Orochimaru said as he put on the matching kazekage hat and flounced out of the room.
As Tsunade pulled away a weak hand tried to grab hers, “If you want my help removing the seal then use your position and the coming chaos to bring me Sasuke Uchiha. Meet me at the Valley of the End and I’ll remove it there. Listen to the exams through this.” She said indifferently as she tossed an earpiece over her shoulder. It landed neatly on his chest without her even looking at Kimimaro.
“Thank … you.” Kimimaro said softly, but Tsunade was already leaving the room to get her cloak and a mask.
After her own disguise was in place she followed Orochimaru as if she was just a Sand ninja guarding him. For a moment she allowed her eyes to linger on Hiruzen. Before Tsunade lost her temper the exams began and she stuck the other end of the tiny listening device to the underside of the rail. However, she did allow herself to smirk as Sasuke was carried off on a stretcher. As unexpected as that development was, it definitely will make it easier to get the Uchiha. For now she watched the fights that followed, which ranged from odd to absolutely pathetic …

Sakura’s jaw dropped in shock as the sand blocked her attack on Gaara, “How?!”
“Are you-“ Gaara was interrupted as Sakura went into full panic mode.
A barrage of shuriken, kunai and a few explosive tags were tossed at the red haired Sand ninja. She even chucked a foreign flute-like weapon at him. However, she clearly didn’t know how it worked so she just literally threw it and it just bounced off the sand harmlessly. What made the entire display far worse was that she didn’t have any strategy behind any part of her assault.
Gaara blinked as his sand shield dropped revealing the exhausted pinkette, “Right … I’m just going to finish this.” He said as his sand shot forward and wrapped firmly around her body.
“No! Please don’t kill me!” The pinkette screamed as she frantically looked around for help. “I forfeit! I forfeit! Naruto, help me!”
Thankfully, Gaara made his sand wrap around her mouth after that, “I’m not going to kill. The hokage asked me to test to see if you should even be a ninja.” Gaara said and smirked up at the hokage.
In that instant everything changed at once. The referee made a signal. A genjutsu was cast over the civilians in the audience so they fell asleep and wouldn’t panic. Gaara’s sand dropped Sakura and he fired a sand spear at the kazekage. Hiruzen already had his hokage robes off revealing his battle armor underneath. The kazekage managed to dodge, but his hat was thrown off by the sand and none other than the snake sage was revealed.
“What’s going on?” Sakura yelped as a large battle erupted between several sound ninjas that seemed to appear out of nowhere and the ninjas of Konoha. “Don’t hurt me!” She yelped when she felt someone touch her shoulder.
“It’s just me, Sakura.” The pinkette looked up at the person with the familiar voice and saw Kakashi. “I’m going to get you out of here.” He said with a sigh as he picked up his teary eyed student.
A very relieved Sakura smiled as she was taken to the area with the sleeping audience, “What’s going on, Kakashi-sensei?”
“The Konoha found information revealing that Orochimaru planned to ambush Konoha with Sand, but we turned it around. Sand is helping us get rid of Orochimaru.” Kakashi said as he set her down with the sleeping civilians in a sheltered area, which was protected by other Leaf ninjas. “Most genin weren’t told about this so don’t feel bad. Stay out of the way.”
“Most?” Sakura muttered and her eyes caught a glimpse of team 8 and Naruto fighting and killing the sound ninjas that seemed to be trying to trap the hokage. Not one of them looked like they were caught off guard. Even two stuffed animals seemed to be fighting too. “I'm a good ninja, right? I was only scared of Gaara because he has killed before.”
Kakashi winced as he realized how screwed up that logic was, “That shouldn’t have even fazed you … all chunin and most genin have killed.”
Sakura seemed to deflate in her disappointment, “Oh … ok.” She murmured thoughtfully.
“We’ll talk about this later.” Kakashi promised before jumping into the fight.

“I’m going to check on Sasuke.” Naruto whispered to Kurama before creating an army of clones.
Kurama nodded, “I’ll watch Hiruzen’s back. ROOT is securing the village. One of Orochimaru’s bodyguards is gone so keep an eye out.”
“Got it.” Naruto said before disappearing into the chaos.
For once Naruto didn’t hold back. As his clones spread out to help wherever they could he went full speed right to the hospital. Of course, it crossed his mind that Sasuke could be in the infirmary in the arena’s building. However, he remembered that Shino noticed a difference in the uniforms.
Considering the danger and different uniforms Sasuke would be somewhere safe. Right now ROOT was definitely too busy saving the villagers. They wouldn’t have time to guard one person and they’ll need the infirmary free for their own ninjas. That leaves the hospital as the best place to check. Even if the Uchiha wasn’t there he could secure the area with clones.
“If I remember correctly there’s a secret room behind the morgue and it is sometimes used in these emergencies.” Naruto rationalized to himself as he entered the hospital.
Of course, he did pick the entry point with the least ninjas fighting and he was very skilled in stealth. Despite those points he didn’t think it should have been that easy to get in. As he went to find Sasuke he left dozens of clones around to help. It turned out to be the best move he made. After all, it was a clone that found the Uchiha’s room.
“Dammit! How’d I miss him?” Naruto snapped as turned on his heels and bolted back down the way he came.
It seemed the burns meant Sasuke was in a different room than he expected. To make it worse, Naruto's closest clone was destroyed by a white haired man in a hospital gown, who was trying to unhook Sasuke …
