When Hinata stepped out into the hall, the first person she saw was Lee. She blushed profusely.
“Hinata-chan.” He smiled at her, a blush on his own face. “Are you…alright?”
Hinata took a deep breath and smiled at him. “Yes. Is… Tenten? And, um, are you mad at her?”
Lee gave her a puzzled look. “Why would I be mad at her?”
Hinata sighed and shook her head. She was never going to understand men. “Never mind. Is she okay?”
“Hai, she is fine. She’s in there now, if you need her.” He smiled, bowed somewhat awkwardly and moved past her.
She knocked quietly on the door to their room. In only a few seconds, Tenten answered. She smiled at Hinata and dragged her into the room. “Okay, spill. Was he mad?”
Hinata shook her head again. “No. I just don’t get the guys. I mean, Neji said it was a fantasy!”
“I know, Lee said the same thing. I’m just glad they’re not mad. Would have been really awkward.” Tenten sighed and peeked up at Hinata from under her lashes. “What about you? Are you okay?”
Hinata blushed, but nodded. “Yeah. I saw Lee out in the hall. He seemed okay with everything, but it was a little awkward. I mean…he saw me naked. We didn’t have sex with each other, but it was very intimate. Anyway, are you…?”
Tenten smiled. “Yeah.” She bumped Hinata with her shoulder. “I have a confession to make.”
“What?” Hinata’s blush got brighter.
“I’ve thought about it before…” Her voice was barely above a whisper.
“Really?” Hinata breathed. Tenten nodded, not looking up. “Me, too.”
Tenten’s head snapped up and she grinned. She threw her arms around Hinata and hugged her. “Oh, good. I was way nervous.”
Hinata giggled. “Me, too.” She took a deep breath. “Whew. Well, that’s…out, I guess you could say.”
Tenten laughed. “Yeah.”
“Okay, um, we need to do some laundry. If you get your clothes together, I’ll take them to the laundry room for you.” Hinata stood up.
“No you won’t! I’ll help. Just give me a minute.” She headed over to their packs.
“I’m going to check with Shino and Kiba.” Hinata went to the door and opened it. “I’ll be right back.”
“Okay.” Tenten was bent over the pack and Hinata went in search of Kiba.

“I’ll take it myself. Just tell me where.” Hinata sighed. This was ridiculous. None of them would let her help. She actually growled. Kiba looked surprised. “Sorry! I’m not trying to make you mad!”
“I’m. Not. Broken. I am perfectly capable of doing some laundry. Shino wouldn’t let me help him, either.” She crossed her arms and tapped her foot.
“Yeah, but I’m not completely useless, though don’t ask your sister if I am.” Hinata laughed. “I’ll get my stuff together, just show me where to put it.”
“Fine.” She spun around and headed for her own room, where she could at least pick up her own clothes. Except they weren’t there. The pile she’d made of dirty clothes was missing, along with her husband. She growled again.
She headed down the hall and found him with a basket and Yasashii in the main room. “Yasashii-san.” She bowed.
“Oh, Hinata-chan! Don’t call me that! You’re the Hyuuga!” She shook her head at her.
“Please, my father would run me through if he thought I didn’t show proper respect.” She grinned cheekily.
Yasashii laughed. “Okay, okay. You youngins. Neji-kun here was just asking me where the laundry room was and I tried to tell him I would do it, but he refused.”
“And my husband is correct. We are not here to impose on your hospitality. Please, allow us to take care of things.“ Hinata smiled.
“It is no imposition. I told you the truth, I’ve been looking forward to this visit ever since I first heard about it. Really, I’m so happy to have someone to do things for.” She sighed. She made one last grab for the wash basket, but Neji was faster and picked it up.
At that moment, Kiba and Shino appeared with their small bundles and Lee behind them with a fuming Tenten stalking after him.
Yasashii grinned. “Oh! Here, give those to me, I’ll take care of them!”
Kiba looked from Neji, who was holding his basket away from her, to the scowling Hinata and back again. “Um, Yasashii-san, I can take care of them, if you’ll just show me where…?”
Yashashii sighed. “No proper respect. They won’t let me do anything!” She grumbled to herself without heat. “Okay, okay. This way.” She led the way to the laundry room.
As soon as she left, Tenten and Hinata turned on the guys. “You are NOT doing the laundry.”
Shino simply calmly set his laundry down and stepped back. “Smart man.” Tenten said and looked at her husband. “You are horrible at it. Set the clothing down and I won’t summon any kunai.” Lee actually looked alarmed. He dropped them onto the pile and beat a hasty retreat.
Hinata turned her gaze on Kiba. “Drop it, or I’ll feed Akamaru beans for dinner.” Kiba’s eyes widened and he was gone before his clothes hit the floor.
Now the two turned to the one man neither could easily intimidate. Neji grinned at them. “Do your worst.”
Hinata put her hands on her hips and glared at him, but Tenten had an idea. “Leave it or you will never see anything like that shower again in your life.”
Now even Neji looked alarmed. His eyes widened as he looked from one woman to the other. Hinata grinned evilly at him. “I…um…should send a message to Konoha and let them know…um…that we’re here safely.” And with that he dropped the basket and bolted.
Both women doubled over in laughter.

It didn’t take long to start the first load and the women headed back out to the main room. Yasashii had tea out for them and was chattering away at Neji. Hinata sat next to Neji and Tenten joined Lee on the other side of the table.
Neji turned to her. “Kiba took Akamaru outside for a while and Shino went to send his messenger back to Konoha for us. He said he wanted to wait for it to return.”
Hinata nodded and turned to Yasashii. “I appreciate all of your hospitality. We are very grateful for the opportunity to study in your library. When Konoha was destroyed, we lost so much.”
Yasashii nodded sadly. “We heard about the destruction before we heard about you and the rest of the family. I was worried sick. The relief I felt when I heard you were all right…” she shook her head. “Well, that’s past. It’s about the rebuilding now, isn’t it? Growing up out of the rubble?”
Hinata smiled at her. “Yes. That’s exactly it. It’s that very idea that has helped me maintain my resolve in the changes Neji and I plan to make to the clan. I’m not sure how much Neji told you when we contacted you about the library…”
“Not much, just that you needed to see some of the copies that we have here that you lost during the destruction in Konoha.” Yasashii leaned forward and poured tea for Hinata, Lee and Tenten.
“Well, for one thing, we are researching the brands.” Hinata glanced up at Neji’s headband. “I am dissolving the lines between branch and main.”
She paused to see the woman’s reaction. Yasashii’s eyes widened and she looked from Neji to Hinata. “It just occurred to me! Neji-kun, you were branch! And yet you married.” She looked back to the Hyuuga and really noticed the way she sat straighter and really looked like the leader. “Hiashi chose his successor well.”
Hinata bowed her head in acknowledgement of the compliment. “Thank you. Our clan has been mired in old traditions for far too long. Things have changed in the world and many of the old ideals no longer apply. We believe that these ideals and traditions are what are holding the clan back. We believe it can be even stronger than it is now.“
“I am very glad to hear that. I concur with my wife.” A voice behind them said.
Hinata and Neji jumped up along with Lee and Tenten and they all bowed to their host. He looked much like Neji would in thirty years. His dark hair was streaked with silver, and there were a few minor lines around his eyes, but he was very fit and it was obvious in the fit of his haori and hakama. Neji spoke first. “You must be Mori-san. It is very good to meet you.” He bowed again.
“The pleasure is mine, Neji-sama. Hyuuga-sama.” He bowed to each of them, then turned to Hinata. “Hiashi did choose very well.”
“Please, Mori-san, I do not stand on ceremony. Call me Hinata.” She smiled up at him.
He bowed again. “As you wish, Hinata-chan. It is wonderful to see you.” He smiled at her and on impulse she hugged him. He was surprised but hugged her back.
“You remind me much of my father. He has changed quite a bit recently. I believe he has many regrets of the way he has treated people in the past.”
“Your father had a lot on his shoulders. As I’m sure you are beginning to understand. Clan leadership is difficult at best. Thank you for the compliment.” He walked around to sit next to his wife. The others sat as well.
“I am beginning to understand. It has already been difficult and I’ve only been leader for a short time.” She looked at Neji. “We have not told the rest of the clan yet. We’re pregnant. We’re expecting twins in about 6 months.”
Yasashii jumped up and came around the table to Hinata. “Oh, dear!! How wonderful!!” She hugged her close.
Mori shook Neji’s hand. “Congratulations.” He smiled and winked. “Didn’t take long, did it?”
Neji had the grace to blush. “No, sir.” He seemed to be having trouble speaking. Lee and Tenten laughed. He decided to get even with them. “They are, too. Due about the same time.”
Lee glared at him and Neji grinned wolfishly back. Tenten’s scowl promised retribution.
Mori, oblivious to the exchange smiled at the other couple. “Congratulations to you, too.”
Lee bowed his head. “Thank you.”
“Well, I expect you are anxious to see the library? Then perhaps get settled in a bit before dinner.” Mori stood.
“That would be nice, thank you. I’m sure the ladies are tired, it’s been a trying couple of days for them.”
Mori nodded in understanding. “This way, then.”
Tenten leaned over to Hinata. “I’m going to go take care of the laundry. See you back at the rooms?”
Hinata nodded and followed Mori.
The library was on the opposite end of the house from the bedrooms. Off to the left, they could see the dining room and beyond that, Hinata assumed, was the kitchen. To the right was a set of double doors set into the wall. When Mori opened them, Hinata gasped.
The library was huge. There were shelves upon shelves upon shelves of books. All four walls were covered with books. There were short windows set high in the walls to let in light, but other than that, it was books.
In the center of the room were three low tables with cushions for sitting. Each table had a lamp and scrolls and writing brushes and ink. There were other cushions scattered in corners and along the shelves so that one could pick up a book and sit right down to start reading. Dangling from the ceiling were a couple of large chandeliers.
Hinata thought it might be possible that the Konoha library didn’t have as many books as this one did. She was fairly certain the academy library did not. She leaned over to Neji. “This could take a long time.”
Neji nodded. “I’ve never seen so many books in a personal library before.” He sighed at the prospect of what was ahead. “We’ll need to send word back to Konoha and discuss this with the others.”
Hinata nodded and turned to Mori. “Mori-san, could you show us the sections with clan history?”
Mori smiled. “This way.” He pointed to the right and walked along the shelves. “This shelf here and that one there are the scrolls dedicated to clan history. That wall there—“ he pointed ahead to the wall at the end of the library, some twelve feet long, “that is the wall with the history books. That shelf over there and the two next to it have a history of our jutsus and the Byakugan. And we have some other books scattered in other areas that may help your research. I will be happy to assist in any way I can.” He bowed to her.
Hinata looked over everything. Hopefully, she could sort out some of the books she’d already been through, but there were many more here she hadn’t even realized existed. “Thank you, Mori-san. We’ll get started this evening, after dinner, if that is alright with you.”
“That is fine with me, though I think my wife was looking forward to a longer dinner. She so rarely gets visitors.” He looked a bit anxious. Hinata looked up to Neji and he nodded.
She turned back to Mori. “That’s fine. We’ll get a fresh start tomorrow morning.”
* * *
Hinata found Lee and Tenten in the laundry room. Lee was sitting in a corner well away from the laundry machines and Tenten was folding clothes. “Lee? Tenten? Could you come outside for a minute? We need to talk to you.”
“Of course, Hinata-chan.” Lee looked a little too eager to go outside and Hinata chuckled to herself.
Tenten finished folding the shirt she had in her hand and they headed outside.
Neji was sitting on a branch next to Kiba. Shino stood off to the side as cool and quiet as ever. Hinata sat next to Akamaru and he curled around her. Lee and Tenten shared another branch.
“Well. This is going to take longer than we thought. The library is very large and the section on clan history is a big portion of it. Even working as quickly as we can with Mori helping guide us in the right direction, this will take days at minimum, maybe even a couple of weeks, unless we get lucky.”
“I’ve discovered a few beetles that I am unfamiliar with. I have nothing pressing to take me back to Konoha right now. I would like to study the new species I found. Does it matter where I study? No.” Shino, having spoken more in the last minute than he had the whole trip, leaned back against the tree.
Tenten looked at Lee. “This is basically our honeymoon. We had no real plans for anything else and this place is beautiful. We’ll help if we can and if we can’t, there’s plenty of space to train or swim or…whatever.” She finished with a blush.
Kiba scratched Akamaru behind the ears. “I’ve got nothing pressing. I’ll want to send a message to Hanabi directly, but I suspect she’ll be happy to spend more time with her father.”
Neji nodded. “Thank you. I feel better knowing you guys are here. Well, Yasashii-san has planned a large dinner. I know Hinata needs some rest, so we’ll see you then.”
Tenten stood. “The laundry is mostly done. There’s only one load left in the dryer. Shino, Kiba, your stuff is done. Neji, you can get yours and Hinata’s. Lee can bring ours back to the room for me to deal with.” They all stood up and headed back into the house.
