"....What's going on?" Naruto had come home carrying bags of groceries, when he noticed that Sasuke was not alone in their living room. Sitting around their low table on the floor, Sasuke was accompanied by Sai and Neji. Sasuke's face was a bit pale, but his attitude toward Naruto was still the same. Still, it was enough to make the blond uneasy, as though he had walked into a serious and ominous conversation. "Naruto." Sasuke stood up, introducing the guests, and more importantly, why they were here. "Sai and Neji came by. They just came from speaking to Gaara and needed to talk to us as well, right?" Sai kept a steady watch on Sasuke face, keeping quiet for a moment before standing. With a smile, he nodded. "Yes. We are in need of Sasuke's help to track down Kabuto's base, however, the Kazekage wants to wait until you and your family are threatened at home."
"What? That doesn't make any sense. Why would Gaara..." "We know about the demons Shiro and Gaara still hold." Neji was growing tired of going in circles. "He believes that, along with your twins, Kabuto will have no choice, but to come after them soon enough. Sasuke and Shiro are familiar with the types of hiding holes that snake slitters into. Gaara won't let Shiro go, but I thought you'd be more reasonable..." "You...want to take Sasuke? Alone? Sorry that's not..." "Naruto, what if he comes after the twins? They are at camp now, but he could find them..." Sasuke seemed more eager to go, than Naruto thought he would be. Turning in anger, the blond put the bags on the table with a glare. "What? You 'want' to go by yourself? Why?" "I'm just trying to protect my family...It was something I couldn't do before." "Well, I'm trying to protect my family too!" Slamming his fist down onto the table, Naruto caused everyone to effectively shut their mouths. "If Gaara says we should wait, then we should wait. He's been with us this entire time..." "And what about Sakura?" Sasuke took a step forward, his hand moving to gently sit on top of the clenched fist. "He told us once that he wouldn't hold back if she really was behind all this. Aren't you worried about him getting to her first?" "He wouldn't...I mean...I can save Sakura. She's my friend and she's just hurting right now. You were hurting too, remember? I brought you back and I can bring her back..." The dark eyes of the Uchiha glimmered over in pain. "She wants to kill you, Naruto. She wants to kill me, Gaara, and Shiro. I'm...fine with that. I can take that...but what about Shino and Kana? You would risk their lives trying to bring her back? You'd sacrifice our kids for the likes of her?" And there is was. The question that Naruto was trying to avoid. That burning, deep seeded hated question that was about to tear his soul and heart apart. Still, he pulled his hand away, turning his back toward Sasuke. "That's not going to happen. She wouldn't hurt them." It was as if Sasuke took a knife and stabbed it into his chest. It would have been less painful if he did. Unfortunately, the feeling was mutual. Sasuke knew that Naruto would risk anything, including his family and lover, if it meant saving someone like Sakura. Although he didn't say it, the narrowing black eyes that were full of hurt and rage said it all. "...You're right. She wouldn't go that far..." These were shallow words, coming from Sasuke. Turning, he gave the expression he was carrying to Neji and Sai, despite saying something otherwise. "Well, you heard him. We think it's best that we wait for her to come here. Naruto is going to try everything he can to save Sakura, like he saved me so..." Looking to Sasuke, Sai and Neji both understood. "Alright. We'll do it your way." Neji spoke carefully as he moved towards the door with Sai. Taking their leave, Naruto finally dropped his guard. "...Thank you, Sasuke. I know it's not easy for you, but you have to trust me. I have to do everything I can to try to bring her back. I owe her that much." As he embraced Sasuke from behind, the other man looked off while petting the strong arms that held him. "Yeah, I owe her too." Though it was clear to him now what he owed to Sakura and what Naruto owed to her, were two entirely different things. After leaving, Neji and Sai walked side by side as they normally did, their voices low as they spoke. "That was the confirmation we needed, wasn't it?" Sai looked to Neji with his question. Giving a nod, Neji responded. "It was just as Sasuke said, so we go ahead as planned." Author's Note: This is a short chapter, sort of a continuation from last chapter, but not quite the next one. I didn't want to merge the two for clarity, so there you have it :) So, time for some shameless self publishing! If you happen to like how I write, I wanted to post that I do write original works! I've finally started piecing together a story I've been working on for over a year, and it's finally coming to life. The chapters are light novel size (about 6 pages per chapter) and I just published Chapter 1. The story is called S.A.G.A, which is a humorous/fantasy/slightly romantic story of a young man who doesn't look at people online as real people. He plays online games and chats, but will change a game or chat service, not bothering to keep in touch with 'friends'. One day he finds himself nearly homeless and is saved by someone he met online. Eventually, he gets a job as a Game Master to an upcoming MMORPG, and starts seeing the people he plays and works with as actual people instead of just avatars. There's all sorts of stories, plot twists, gay and straight coupling, and a good mix of characters with their own stories. It's rated M (because apparently M rating if for the 16+ crowd), with mild language, adult situations, and hints of romance and relationships. It's mostly funny with the sort of characters I write in a slice of life sort of way. *EDIT* Since I'm not allowed to link the story offsite, I have reposted it here: http://original.adult-fanfiction.org/story.php?no=600104414 Thanks ahead of time for any support/comments/reviews/whatever! The next chapter will be a complete one: We're getting to the grit of the story here! While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
