*Note: If anyone gets my Alice in Wonderland and Cheshire Cat references, I'll love you forever* "Ugh...my head...." With eyes shut, Sasuke rubbed the bridge of the nose and forehead with bare fingertips. Feeling to the back of the head, the fingers stopped suddenly when they ran though short spiky tuffs of black hair. "What the?" Continuing to feel, the hand ran up and down the cropped cut. Looking down, the Sharingan eyes saw a lavender rope tied to the narrow waist. With a white kimono being worn on the upper body and hilted sword, the ninja blinked. The floor was polished onyx, reflecting an image of himself that had not been around for years. Looking around, there was more of the polished dark stone as constraining walls, giving Sasuke a clear image of the body he was in. "This is...what I looked like last time I was here. I see." The Uchiha had been here before, this dark corridor that lead to the prison cell of Kyuubi. Looking ahead, there was no light. It was a matter of faith. As if stepping off a cliff without knowing if there was a bridge, Sasuke walked forward. The first step lit up twin torches on either side, as did the second. What made him stop was the familiar bellowing laughter of the demon. Kuh. Kuh. Kuh. Sasuke. Uchiha. Smirking, Sasuke answered the mocking voice. "Oy. Kyuubi. It's been awhile, huh?" The roaring laughter that followed echoed loudly, a gust of wind from the demon's maw forced Sasuke to take a defensive stance in order not to be pushed back. Huffing, the man continued. The new steps were quickened and frustrated, knowing that time wasn't on his side. "Huh? A door?" That was something that wasn't there the last time. Turning, the torches that were previously lit had gone out, leaving nothing but infinite darkness. There wasn't a choice in the matter. Gathering nerve, the door was pushed open. What was behind it was the blinding light of a setting sun against a wide and beautiful lake. Looking down, Sasuke's reflection had changed. Under the small feet of the young boy were wooden planks of a dock. With a high collared, navy blue shirt on, Sasuke turned to see a little blond child walking on the high path alone. The round striped face looked sad, lonely even. Naruto? Trying to call the name, the little voice wouldn't work. Stricken with no spine, Sasuke tried to call out to him over and over again. The little mouth opened and closed, voiceless. Looking down, the child had noticed the dark haired boy who looked just as alone, but still wouldn't talk to him. Giving up on trying to speak, Sasuke tried to run, but suddenly tripped and fell. Shit! It had been too long since he had such short legs! Scrambling to get up, the child ran and stumbled up the large steps to the road. Getting to the top, the mess of blond hair was long vanishing into the distance. Continuing to chase, Sasuke tried to will his voice to return. Speak! Speak, damn it! Naruto! Naruto! "NARUTO!" The little boy down the way froze. He had definitely heard his name from somewhere. As he turned around, Sasuke smiled. With as fast as the little legs could carry, he started to run to his would-be lover and best friend. "Eh? No one is there... Mah, I'm hearin' things. Who would call out to me..." When the boy turned, he didn't see anyone. Dejected, tears came from the large blue eyes, one of which was black from getting beat up again today. Rubbing a sore cheek, the child continued to walk down to his home, alone as always. Despite Sasuke's attempt to reach, just as he was about to be seen, a large hole had opened up underneath himself. Falling into blackness, eyes shut as the ground came. Upon reopening the black eyes, he found himself on his back, fallen backwards in a chair. "Ow..." Getting up, there was a group of familiar academy students in their desks. Ino and Sakura were fawning over each other saying how cool Sasuke looked, even when falling, Kiba was laughing loudly, and Naruto was only glaring. Insisting that Sasuke wasn't cool, he had jumped onto the desk to look in Sasuke's face. Looking up, Sasuke glared back. Suddenly, lips were on top of his. Oh, is this the...ha. So it is. "AGAIN!?" Sakura was first to scream. This wasn't the first time this happened, after all. You would think Naruto would learn not to keep jumping up like that. He had a terrible sense of balance. The sudden kiss made Sasuke lean back in the wobbly chair again, falling for yet a second time. Grabbing Naruto's jacket, he took the other boy down with the tumble. It was more of a sight than before, as the falling back made the pair roll several times before hitting the back wall. Straddling, Sasuke was on top, pinning the boy in the orange jump suit down. A smirk crossed his face as he stood. Blushing, Naruto watched Sasuke offer a hand, only to smack it away. "Get away from me!" The rejection hurt, even back then. Both felt a sudden sting in their chest from each other's reaction. Crossing arms, Sasuke leaned back against the wall, only to vanish in the darkness yet again. Falling onto his back against rocky terrain, a headband wearing Sasuke was sore all over. With blurry vision, the dirty ears rang painfully. Looking over, the sound impaired ears could barely hear Naruto screaming. Also covered in scrapes and bruises, they were in the middle of a battle. "SASUKE! Get up!" To his left was a beat up Sakura, her long pink hair held in place by her headband. Those big green eyes in tears as she sat on her knees in a panic. Groaning, Sasuke sat up, a hand holding the pounding head. With the Sharingan active, eyes were able to see the enemy. More importantly, they could see an exploding tagged Kunai being thrown. "MOVE!" After pushing Sakura out of the way, Sasuke body-checked Naruto. The pair rolled until Sasuke was holding onto the edge of a cliff, Naruto clinging to the other hand. "Sasuke...Sasuke! Let me go! Save yourself!" Surprised, Sasuke looked down. "Shut up, you idiot!" Swing the weight of a pendulum, the boy manage to toss Naruto to a barren tree root that stuck from the side of the cliff. Crawling on his hand and knees, the blond continued to yell. Laughing to himself, Sasuke tried to climb. The side of the cliff crumbled in the grip of the hands and he fell. Looking to Naruto, a smile came as his body disappeared into the void. The light was blinding. What was this? Chidori? Looking ahead, Naruto was charging at him with Rassengan. Where was he? The hospital roof? Shit. Try as he might, Sasuke couldn't stop himself. I didn't want this. I don't want this! Stop! Damnit, STOP!" The blinding light engulfed their bodies. Leaning over Naruto's unresponsive body, Sasuke stared down. The sky was dark, muggy and wet with rain. No longer wearing a headband, the battered Uchiha looked at the young, round face with tears in his eyes. I...I didn't want anything like this. Even the thoughts of the inner Sasuke, mature with age and experience, was falling victim to his own past. Closing the sad, dark eyes, he stood up to walk away, just as he had before. There was no light, no path, just pain. Anguish, regret, and pain. When the tired face finally looked up, the was a light. An opening, maybe it was an escape from this Hell. Having all but forgotten the original purpose, Sasuke just wanted to escape these memories. Out of the tunnel, he was dry. Looking down from his post, he saw him. Naruto had grown up. The once chubby face was now well defined, but the large blue eyes remained. "Naruto?" The once shaky voice of the young boy Sasuke was now rich and deep. "Sasuke? Sasuke!" Inside of his chest, a familiar cord of pain struck. He wanted to remove it. Jumping down, a arm came around Naruto's shoulders, a harsh tone spoke in the blond's ear. Still, Naruto did not back down. He didn't pull away or place blame. The painful note struck Sasuke's chest for a second time. He wanted to remove it. Pulling out the sword from the lavender robe belt, a hand came up to strike the teenager down. Just as the blade was about to pierce, the arm had stopped. No. This isn't what happened. I don't want to do this!" The Sharingan activated and in the dark hallway, Sasuke was standing in front of the large, sealed cage. "KYUUBI! Show yourself!" The bellowing laughter returned as the giant mass of spiky orange-red fur shifted in the prison. A large, slanted yellow eye opened that hovered above the grinning smile of razor-sharp teeth.
