Author notes: In the last chapter Gaara tells Yuudai the reasons why Yuudai is so upset. Some may be confused by it, so here is the sum of it.
Yuudai was pissed before that Naruto married Sasuke, and was at first being a total moody teen because he is a brooding moody teen (look at his father!) Yuudai was jealous of Base’s abilities to save him all the time, and be a big shot in Naruto’s eyes.
After his attack, Yuudai began to completely shut off and push people away. That is what Gaara was talking about.
~*~*~*~*Chapter 22~*~*~*~*
Base stared at the dark, starry sky. It was cold and he thanked his mother he could not die from hypothermia. He could not die at all. He was thankful for such a gift allowed him to stay outside on the roof tops watching Yuudai’s room. Watching the boy… protecting him, it was all he could do. He would watch Yuudai day and night to make sure no harm came to the beautiful teen.
The god’s eyes began to close, feeling the cold night air bite at his bare arms and face. He would have no harm done to him. He was a god… he was not easy to kill, or sneak up on, and yet the warm body on his lap proved he was not as hard to sneak up on. Apparently he was easy. Golden eyes opened and watched as the smaller brunette laid his head close to the god’s chest, listening to the heartbeat of the other. Base said nothing. He just watched as Yuudai continued to listen, his onyx eyes closed. A soft hum rumbled in his throat, mimicking the sounds of the older teen’s beating heart.
“I’m sorry.” Yuudai’s words were soft, a soft whisper. Base never would have heard it, if he had been human. It was only thanks to the wolf side of him that he even heard the mumbles from the younger. A small smile spread over the god’s face.
“For what?”
“Don’t make me say it….” Base’s smile widened as he held the small brunette tightly in his arms, not wanting this moment to get crushed and have the boy leave. This was perfect, exactly how they used to be before everything began to fall apart.
“Its fine Yuudai, I understand…”
“I…. I think I’m ready... to go home…”
“Home... as in Konoha?”
“Home… as in with you…”
“Thank you, Yuudai.” Base stood, holding the smaller teen. He jumped towards the hospital, slipping through the window. Yuudai’s eyes scanned the room and a soft sigh escaped his lips.
“I don’t like this room… I’m not even injured! Why do I have to stay here?”
“Gaara’s orders and you know how he gets.” Yuudai began to relax into the wolf god's embrace, his eyes drooping in exhaustion. He hadn't rested in the four days since he'd left Konoha. His body was finally shutting down, demanding the rest he so desperately needed. Base laid the smaller teen onto the bed, kissing his temple softly. As he began to turn to leave, Yuudai's weak grip stopped him, pulling at his shirt.
“Stay with me?.... I don't really want to be alone.” Base frowned and closed his eyes. Part of him wanted to stay, sleeping close to the boy he loved, to spend the night with him watching the smaller teen sleep, peaceful for the first time in years. But a smell near the village of Suna made his protective nature demand he leave. The smell that stained Yuudai's hair, the smell of a demon, one of the three that had been part of the Uzumaki teen's attack. The demon's scent had not entered the village yet, but it was lurking outside, probably to finish what it had started on the teen.
“I will stay.... but you need to sleep.” Yuudai slowly nodded his head, his drooping eyes already almost closed. Base sat on the bed next to the teen, his golden eyes watching as the boy slipped off into sleep. It was nice, watching Yuudai become so relaxed, so peaceful. It was almost heartbreaking to think about how upset the boy had become in his life, but things seemed to be getting a bit better, little by little. Soon Yuudai would be happy.
At least Base hoped so. Golden eyes began to close, his body relaxed slowly. He did not sleep. He never needed to, but he did lose track of what was going on around him. The smell of something not human filled the room. In a flash Base was up and in a fighting stance glaring at the figure before him.
“Calm, demon.”
“I told you... I am not a demon. I am a god.” Shinakio stood at the foot of the bed watching the wolf. His mismatched eyes narrowed at the one armed man.
“Why are you here?” Base asked in a soft growl before sitting down again at Yuudai's side.
“I here with Yuudai, stay with Yuudai.” Silence filled the air. Base watched the man for signs of deception, any sign that he meant any form of harm to befall Yuudai.
Nothing.
“Fine... Stay with him until I return.”
“Where?”
“The bastard who hurt Yuudai is stalking him outside the village. I am going to get rid of the demon.” Shinakio's eyes began to go wide. A real demon was outside the village… was here… and if the demon was originally the one who hurt Yuudai then the demon's prey was most likely the young boy again.
“Let Shinakio help.”
“I need you to stay here. Watch Yuudai… protect him in case I fail.”
“Fail? But, you a god.”
“I am a one armed wolf god... I may not be enough to kill a demon... Especially one who can take down the Kyuubi power Yuudai bears....” Base kept his eyes averted from Yuudai. He loved the boy. He would do anything for him even if it meant death.
Gods may not die easily but in his current state, he'd hardly used his powers in years. He was weaker then his brothers, he was missing a limb, and he was more human then god at this moment.
But for Yuudai, he'd happily die a human death. He would fight until the end to protect Yuudai… to protect his special person.
“Luck to you.” Base let out a soft smile, watching the redhead before he darted out the window, dropping to the ground below. A smile crossed his lips again, remembering the words Yuudai mumbled earlier to him.
Home with you.
Author notes: Does anyone else notice how hard it is sometimes writing 20 different fics at once? its tough... I think me needs to start working on finishing one or two before I do anymore lol!
