Sakura was skipping to her team meeting place in a really good mood. The pinkette was just turning the corner when she saw something that made her stop and coo in delight. It was the sight of a cute couple kissing. To her surprise she saw the hokage’s grandson with the redhead, who was sharing a kiss with a very hot blonde guy dressed in black with a red jacket. Yet again, she cooed when the hot blonde went from kissing the redhead to kissing Konohamaru and realized they were all together. After the kissing ended her jaw hit the ground in pure shock when she finally got a good look at the blonde’s face.
“Naruto?!” Sakura shrieked when she looked at the blonde with the cool glasses much more closely.
“I’ll see you guys later. Say hi to your brother for me.” Naruto said to Kurama before walking towards the pinkette. “Hey, Sakura. It’s been a while.”
“Yeah.” Sakura muttered suddenly rather annoyed. “Since when we’re you gay?” She asked in an accusatory tone as they went to the meeting spot.
Naruto shrugged, “I always liked guys. Oh! That reminds me. Hinata said she thought I had a crush on you. I honestly don’t know what started that. I’m sorry if you got the wrong idea.” He said kindly despite not liking her.
Sakura actually rolled her eyes slightly, “Sure. No big deal.” She said, but an awkward silence lingered as they made it to the meeting spot and waited until Sasuke arrived. “Sasuke! I missed you-“
Sasuke huffed and yanked his arm away from Sakura, “Whatever. Just don’t hold me back during the exam.” Sasuke snapped as he went over to brood under a tree. For a second he looked at Naruto and snorted. “New clothes won’t change anything.” He said and almost seemed annoyed when Naruto didn’t respond or even look at him.
“Exam?” Sakura asked Sasuke, completely clueless about what he meant, but she didn’t get an answer. Glaring at Naruto was her next solution.
Naruto blinked, “Seriously? Didn’t Kakashi tell you? The chunin exams are today. That’s why there’s so many foreign ninjas in the village. We’ve known about it for 3 months.”
“3 months?!” Sakura exclaimed with her usual sharp shriek making Naruto wince slightly.
At that exact moment Kakashi appeared in a puff of smoke, “Yo!” He said cheerfully before looking at Naruto. “Nice clothes! How’d your three months of training with team 8 go?”
“I wasn’t used to having a sensei that actually trained me instead of running off to have some alone time with an emo.” Naruto said bluntly. Of course, that was far from the truth. Guren and Kurama took training him very seriously, but Kakashi didn’t know that.
Kakashi blinked not expecting that answer, “Uuuummm … ok. You certainly look the part.” Kakashi commented in a tone that seemed too cheerful. Naruto could tell that Kakashi really believed he won the bet and that he was weak just with less orange. “Now the exam starts in 10 minutes so get going!”
Sakura’s jaw dropped, “10 minutes?! Where-“ She was cut by the puff of smoke that Kakashi made as he vanished. “This is bad-“ She was cut off again, but this time it was because her two teammates took off in the same direction. “Of course you’d know, Sasuke! You’re so smart!” She said happily, but then she scowled. “Stop trying to take credit, idiot!” She snapped. It truly annoyed her that Naruto was trying to make it look like he was leading the way.
“Ok.” The blonde said casually.
Obviously, both Sasuke and Sakura expected Naruto to slow down so that Sasuke was in the lead. Instead of playing peacemaker like always Naruto picked up speed and bolted far ahead. The two members of team 7 were left in the dust and with their jaws hanging wide open.
“How dare he act cool?!” Sakura grumbled only to then immediately get ditched by Sasuke who also sped up. “So cool!” She squealed and blushed when Sasuke came back into her sight. “You do care! The idiot needs to learn to be more reserved like you, Sasuke.” She praised, mistaking the fact that Sasuke came back in sight for him being reserved and trying to help her. In reality he just couldn’t maintain the speed that Naruto was going at.
“He is an idiot.” Sasuke pressed out trying to not sound like he was breathing hard.
When the building they wanted came into view Sasuke saw Naruto waiting for them right outside. Something about the way Naruto went inside without them just annoyed him. After he raced into the building he saw Naruto casually going up the stairs, but he also saw a huge group of confused people.
Sakura ran into the building huffing and puffing, never seeing the blonde teammate, “Looks like … we beat … the idiot. Sasuke?” She assumed in her exhaustion, but then smiled when she saw Sasuke jump into the center of the crowd.
“This is stupid.” Sasuke announced loud enough so could hear. “We aren’t falling for a genjutsu.”

Kurenai smiled when she saw her team on the third floor of the building where the exams will take place, “Ready?”
“Yes, sensei.” Hinata, Kiba and Shino said, but Akamaru whined slightly and looked behind them expectantly.
Kiba nodded and patted the furry head comfortingly, “Naruto has to grab his teammates.”
“How cute!” Everyone jumped slightly at the familiar voice and turned to see a woman sitting on the window sill next to them. “I wanted to meet you personally before the exam started.”
“Hey guys! Hey Guren-sensei!” Naruto said as he walked down the hall towards them and without his teammates.
“Sensei?” Kiba pondered out loud. Team 8 looked at the woman sitting on the sill, who was smirking. “Oh! We heard your voice over the crystal.” Kiba concluded and they immediately realized who helped Naruto learn his crystal based bloodline.
Guren smirked, “Exactly. I wanted to speak with your sensei.” She explained while looking at Kurenai.
“I understand.” Kurenai said softly, getting the feeling she might be yelled at. She smiled at her students, which as far as she was concerned included Naruto as well. “Good luck.” She said sincerely before following Guren out the window.
Shino looked at Naruto, “So where are Sasuke and Sakura?” He asked as Naruto came up to him and gave him a kiss.
“They’re catching up. I left a clone outside to wait for them. You guys should go ahead.” Naruto commented and continued waiting after team 8 went into the waiting room. It took a few more minutes, but his clone finally noticed them. “Well damn … this got more complicated.” He said after his clone dispelled, effectively sending him a memory.
In that memory he saw Sasuke giving away the secret of the trap that was set on the first floor. As a result Naruto had to step back as a slew of other competitors, the ones who stupidly fell for the genjutsu in the first place, came up through the halls. However, it was kind of funny to see Kakashi try to jump through the window only to find that the crowd left him no room. He was left hanging outside the window until the crowd thinned and everyone except Naruto was in the next room.
“Someone must’ve told everyone about the genjutsu trap.” Naruto said casually and just as a very smug Sasuke and Sakura. “I assumed it was to weed out those who couldn’t figure it out so I just walked by. Oh well. I guess we have even more opponents than necessary.” He commented on getting a glare from Sakura.
The pinkette scoffed as Kakashi climbed through the window, “Oh shut up. You’re just jealous that Sasuke figured it out and not you. Isn’t that right, sensei?”
Kakashi blinked slightly dumbfounded by what he heard, “You told everyone about the trap?” He asked seriously hoping Sasuke was smarter than that, but when he saw the Uchiha’s smug smirk quickly be replaced by a look of indifference the jonin twitched. “Anyway … good luck!” He said cheerfully and quickly ditched.
“Time to go.” Naruto commented as he opened the doors and went into the room where all the genin were waiting.
“Umm … yeah.” Sakura murmured as she looked around the room filled to the brim with scary ninjas. Very slowly, almost as slowly as she walked into the room, she realized that maybe what Sasuke did wasn’t so smart.
Sasuke scoffed, “Whatever. I’ll beat them all.” He said as he confidently strolled forward leaving Sakura to nervously navigate on her own.

Utakata winced as he sat up in the ROOT hospital bed, “You want to talk, right?”
“Yes.” Kurama said as he turned a corner and into the room. “I was going to let you sleep a while longer.”
“That’ll never happen.” Utakata muttered with a tired sigh. “Saiken is really excited to see you. She wants,” Utakata’s jaw slowly dropped and he looked confused. He rolled his eyes as if he gave up trying to understand something.”She wants to know everything.” He said with an amused chuckle.
“She’s talking too fast, isn’t she?” Kurama asked and laughed when Utakata nodded. “Let’s make this a bit easier on you. The hokage has a solution to tweak the seals holding demons so both the host and demon are more comfortable. That’s not how I’m out. In fact, the safer method was finished after I was freed, but we can do that instead if you both agree. It’s far more risky to you as the host and she’ll have to deal with heat. Tell her those two options. The hokage’s option or a full removal.”
Utakata raised an eyebrow, “Heat?”
Kurama frowned, “She’ll know what I mean.”
“Very well.” Utakata commented and closed his eyes. For a moment he just seemed to meditate as he discussed the matter with the demon inside him. Kurama waited patiently and soon the pale gold eyes opened again. “The hokage’s solution. She really doesn’t want to deal with heat.”
“I suspected as much.” Kurama said as he nodded understandingly, but before he could say much more Guren walked in.
“Naruto just entered the exam building and before his teammates no less.” Guren said casually though you could tell she was smug about her student already showing his skills.
Kurama smiled, “Thank you for telling me … oh! Since you’re here can we use your Spyglass jutsu? Utakata shouldn’t be dragged around the shopping district, but Saiken will need a vessel.”
“Of course. I was planning to peek in on the exams anyway.” Guren commented as she created a large crystal lense and a picture of the building appeared. “I know there’s a store nearby.” She mused as she made a hand sign. Suddenly, the image of a startled store clerk appeared.
Kurama raised an eyebrow, “You’re deliberately scaring them.” He commented knowing that formed a crystal right in front of the clerk just to spook him. However, it seemed odd that she’d do that considering how that could affect Naruto .
As Guren adjusted the crystal so it looked into the store she smirked, “I had a chat with Kurenai. I believe we have a possible solution for Naruto’s villager problem or, at least, a lightning rod of sorts. Now what are we looking for?”
“I’m sure she’d like to move around.” Kurama commented and looked at Utakata, who nodded in agreement. “Go for the plush toys.”
Utakata focused as the crystal slowly showed off the line of stuffed animals until he suddenly winced as if an excited demon yelped in his mind, “That one! She wants that one.”
Instantly Guren reached into the crystal and grabbed the stuffed toy. She pulled the toy through and handed it to Utakata. With a quick turn she saw the clerk and threw the money through the crystal at him. The scared clerk was hit by the coins and hid behind a shelf.

“That looks … interesting.” Shino said when he saw Sasuke and Sakura talking to some blue haired guy named Kabuto.
Naruto frowned as he saw the guy use cards to reveal information he should not know, “Definitely something to watch out for.” Naruto agreed. As a result team 8 and Naruto made a mental note to keep track of that team.
Kiba blinked, “Sasuke and Sakura don’t find anything suspicious.” He muttered in annoyance as the two members of team 7 just accepted the stats they were given from a guy they didn’t know. “It’s weird. Right, Hinata?”
“Yeah.” Hinata grumbled absentmindedly in a sharp tone that actually made Naruto, Kiba, Akamaru and Shino look at her in surprise.
To their surprise she was glaring at someone in the crowd. However, before they could figure out who it was the doors opened. One by one everyone was given a number and sent to a seat in a classroom. The written test they were given in that room wasn’t the real test.
Since Naruto didn’t feel like showing off his talents just to cheat he decided to ignore the test. Instead he watched other peoples’ skills to see who could be a threat and ate a snack. Soon enough the test was done, the opponents were thinned out and both Sasuke and Sakura were annoyed again. Not that Naruto cared. After all, it was time for the second test.
Sakura gulped fearfully as she looked at the forest behind a safety fence, “So we start tomorrow morning?” She asked hopefully as she handed over the consent form she just signed. The forest was even more terrifying with the sun deciding to set now effectively making everything very dark …
“Nope! Begin!” The proctor announced and the many gates opened allowing all the genin inside …
