"Naru! Sasu!" The quiet moment of cuddling was suddenly interrupted by the loud cry of the pair of names. The sounds of little, quick footsteps was easily distinguished on the stone path that lead to the house from the woods. In the distance, the figure of Shino running ahead was recognized. Keeping pace, Kana was being carried upon the shoulders of a tall, familiar man with brick red hair and raccoon eyes. As Shino quickly ascended the stairs, Naruto's leg was suddenly clung to as he stood by the little ginger monkey. The longer legs made it easy for Gaara to keep up, meeting them at the porch steps. Removing Kana from his shoulder, he gently placed her down onto the deck. Quickly, she joined her brother as she went to cling to the barren leg of the blond. Making sure eyes were dry first, Sasuke stood as well with a smile. "It's nice to see that they have been attached to you. That's good to know." Gaara spoke in monotone, but was smiling softly. Looking up to see the twins run and cling like that, he couldn't help it.
"I just came back from seeing Sakura and thought it'd be good to bring them home." Nodding, Sasuke came to stand at his lover's side, a hand on top of Shino's head.
"Thank you for that."
"May I come in? I have some news for you both." Making a face, Naruto nodded.
"You know you're always welcome, Gaara. Geesh, your manners don't rest, do they?" Laughing softly, Gaara shrugged slightly.
"I suppose they don't." After coming up the stairs, he gave a polite bow. "Is there a room to speak privately?" Sasuke gave a nod, taking the children's hands to carefully dislodge them from the blonds' legs.
"Naruto, take him to my parent's room. I'll put the twins to bed." Giving a nod, the blond sighed. After casually tossing his arm around Gaara, he sighed annoyed.
"Come on, man. I'm always worried when you say you need to talk." With a soft laugh, Gaara tried his best to keep a smile.
"I am a bit of a harbinger, aren't I?"
"You can say that again. You want something to drink? We still got some plum sake from earlier." The red head nodded, figuring that would at least ease his nerves.
"Please." Sasuke busied himself with changing the twins into pajamas, tucking them into bed. They had a long and busy day, happy to be in the warm bed. It didn't take them long to roll up into sleeping bundles. In the larger bedroom, Naruto was sitting on the floor with Gaara, both drinking quietly until Sasuke came in. Taking a seat on his rear next to Naruto, the three men sat in a circle. Polishing off the last of his cup, Gaara gave a heavy sigh. "I've been debriefed on current situations. It was almost good news about Kabuto being MIA. It took pressure off of the nonsense of the two of you being double agents." With a relaxed smile, Naruto gave a nod.
"Yeah? That's good then. So we can go home...right?"
At this, Gaara had to shake his head. "Unfortunately, Kabuto is a bigger threat. With the new information, it's been considered that he's trying to revive the Jinchuriki project on his own. Making suitable hosts for each tailed beasts." The once relieved blue eyes suddenly narrowed, moving their gaze to the floor. The sharp grey eyes moved to look to Naruto, then fixed their gaze on Gaara.
"Kabuto can control the bodies he creates. He aims to have domination where Madara failed." Nodding to Sasuke, even Gaara looked nervous.
"It's puts myself, you, and Naruto at great risk. He's already proven he can merge your blood lines, something that we failed to do at the hospital today." Looking up, the blue eyes looked concerned.
"Wait, what? What do you mean, failed to do today?" Looking away, the green eyes closed their black eyelids.
"As I went to see Sakura today, she was testing your samples of blood. She wanted to make sure the fusion would take, however."
"However what?" The voice of the blond was stern and to the point.
"However, there was a problem with merging the chakra. Frankly, the Nine-Tails does not want to be merged with anyone else. Once his chakra in your blood activated, the results were... volatile. There isn't a medical way to an outside source with your body, Naruto. How Kabuto managed, we can't tell unless we...tested...on your children." The eyes of Sasuke narrowed threateningly at the Kazakage.
"You're not touching them."
The black eyelids opened, the piercing green eyes flashed their first and only warning to Sasuke's tone. "Calm yourself. I wouldn't dream of it. There are alternative methods, but they are extremely risky and have a very high price. Ha, but knowing the both of you, I don't think either of those will deter you."
The blond stood, his hand balled into a fist. "If it's for Sasuke, I'll risk anything. Whatever it is, I'll do it." Unable to help but to laugh, a hand came from Sasuke to pull on Naruto's arm until he sat back down.
"Well, I guess that settles it. I guess we should at least hear him out first. " The sight put a smile to Gaara's face, making his head shake. It was comforting to watch them still have such life.
"Figures as much. Fine. I believe it's your right to know." Pulling out a scroll the back waistband, it was rolled out onto the floor. Written on it in fresh ink was a very detailed and complicated technique. "This is not forbidden, just frowned upon. I revised the procedure a bit to match the pair of you. This is a unique circumstance." Curiously, the eyes behind the pushed up glasses scanned the illustrations and drawings. However, at the end, Sasuke looked startled. "Is this...what I think it is?"
A finger from Gaara's hand came down, pointing. "Yes. Though, not the original. This is how Madara was able to control the Nine-Tails. It's also the seal of the Uzumaki clan. This was for emergencies. Basically, we're going to weaken Naruto's seal just enough for his Jinchuriki to start emerging. The leaked Chakra will be redirected to you, Sasuke. With your Sharingan, you should be able to control the beast long enough to have the moved chakra not attack your system. Once you've tamed the beast, your body will be compatible. A pseudo-secondary host."
The blue eyes of Sasuke's lover widened. "A...A second host? How is that possible?"
Gaara continued to look down, trying his best to explain simply. "It was in case of the host dying, there needed to be an immediate transfer to another body before it escaped. Even if it was just temporary. It usually was a sacrificial doing, the pseudo-host would be overwhelmed by the beast, but it would buy them time. But no one thought to use an Uchiha. Sasuke might be the only one to be able to control it. Likely, Kabuto considered the same thing."
"But...But Sasuke could die?"
Gaara gave a nod. "Not just that. Weakening your seal risk the Nine-Tails escaping. If Sasuke doesn't control it, we could unleash the demon indirectly or you could lose yourself in your shroud. The burden falls on Uchiha." Turning the green eyes to Sasuke, he looked deadly serious. "Naruto's life will be yours to save from the Nine-Tails. You have to keep the demon at bay in order for the seal to retake. If the procedure and resealing goes, there is still another factor. Your life will be bound to that of Naruto and the demon and visa-versa. If either of you falls, so will the other. That is the price of a single demon residing in two bodies."
