A/N: Additional warning for this chapter: NON-CON! There is non-con in this. There is also violence, beyond what's in the rest of the story.
Sakura didn’t allow herself to start thinking until she was half way to the border. She didn’t know what made her think she should—or could—go after this guy on her own.
That was the problem. She didn’t think. She just went.
She hadn’t been able to think much at all in the last few days. She was still raw, still had that spot in her chest that went from feeling like a huge ball of lead to a hole. She unconsciously put her hand up to it.
She just needed to do something. Because all she’d wanted to do for the last few days was go back to bed. Curl up in a little ball around his book and be left alone.
She couldn’t remember the last time she ate. Hadn’t slept since the night she passed out from crying. So it was stupid to go out like this. She popped a soldier pill and put the bottle back into her pack. It wasn’t much, but it was something.
She thought about the last time she’d made this trip. She’d been listening to the other girls talk about their boyfriends, fiancées…babies. Sakura sucked in a breath. She’d never checked on herself. There had been that one time the first night out.
But she couldn’t bring herself to look. Because if she didn’t manage to get away, if she didn’t succeed in taking down the rogue-nin, she didn’t want to know that there was something else there, too. That she’d be responsible for hurting that, as well.
And she couldn’t face going home.
She forced herself to ignore the fears, the doubts. She needed to focus on where she was going, what was happening. But her mind had an agenda of its own and all she could think about was him.
What would he think if she came back in a body bag? Would he care? Would it hurt?
She knew the answer to it, but didn’t want to admit it. She knew he’d blame himself, consider it another failure. It pissed her off.
She wasn’t the whiny little brat she’d been all those years ago. She was a strong shinobi in her own right, now. She could handle herself.
The anger helped her focus, so she heard the sound. It was just a minor little thing. Just a brush of something. If she hadn’t been so focused, at best, she would have written it off as an animal. But the rest of the forest was silent. And she knew then what it was.
She pulled a kunai out carefully, listening again. He came at her from the right, and she spun and threw the kunai arm up in time to stop his. The force behind him knocked them out of the trees and onto the ground.
He was a former cloud ninja, young, from the looks of it. But his eyes were hard. He’d seen or done enough that any lack of age was made up for. He was thin and looked like he hadn’t eaten in days, but Sakura could attest to the fact that there was still strength there.
“So. They sent a Leaf woman to get me.” He laughed, but it was cold and sent a thrill of fear up Sakura’s spine. It reminded her too much of Kirisame’s insane laugh.
Sakura kept the knife on guard and her feet braced. “Where is she?”
“Sure. I’ll just tell you and then hold my wrists out for you to take me back. Right?” He laughed again.
She fought the urge to roll her eyes. He moved forward slowly, and she tightened the grip on her kunai a little. She stepped to the side when he did and they started circling.
Sakura was starting to get annoyed and just as she considered tossing the kunai aside and putting her fist into the ground, he lunged forward and, annoyingly, caught her by surprise. She tried to parry with the knife, but it got knocked out of her hand and before she knew it, he had her arm twisted high behind her back and his knife poised at her throat.
“You’ll make a nice addition,” he said in her ear and she shuddered as his breath blew over it.
“Addition?” she asked, hoping to distract him. She needed to focus her chakra, needed to get out of the position she was in, but the lack of sleep and food was making itself too well-known. She took a deep breath and pushed with all her strength.
But her strength wasn’t there and she cursed herself silently. The nin just laughed. “Yes, addition. I’ve decided to put together a whole collection.”
He pulled rope out of his pouch and dragged her other arm back. She struggled against him, but it only earned her a cuff to the head. She shook her head to clear it and he took the opportunity to get her completely tied.
He picked her up then, and she realized he was quite a bit taller than her. She struggled more, but just got another cuff to the head for her trouble. She concentrated, instead, on pushing chakra to the ropes, but she couldn’t even break them. She tried to look over her shoulder at them, but of course, they were out of sight. Cursing herself further for not thinking this whole thing through, she decided to just wait and see where he took her.
They hit the river a short while later and on the other side, he paused in front of a rock wall. He set her down and glared at her. “So help me, if you try to run, you’ll wish you were dead.” Sakura wondered if he had a book of bad-guy lines somewhere that he’d memorized. She had no wish to run, anyway. She was still too damned weak.
He pulled the small seal off of the rock face held his hands up and formed the signs. The rock wall parted and he picked her up to carry her in.
The cave itself was fairly small. There was another woman there, tied and gagged against one wall. She was sitting on a blanket, but the skirt she wore was torn and Sakura saw blood on her face and around her wrists. Sakura ground her teeth together to hold in her temper.
The nin dropped her unceremoniously next to the other woman, then turned his back and walked around the cold fire pit to a pile of blankets. At the top of the cave was a small opening to the sky and Sakura realized that the sun was already going down.
The nin arranged some wood in the pit, then formed seals and blew a stream of fire onto the wood. Sakura didn’t say anything, just waited. When the fire was going, he sat back, staring at her.
She squirmed as his eyes traveled leeringly down her body. “Yes, I think you’ll do nicely. At least for a while. She’s about outlived her usefulness.” He tossed his head toward the other woman and sneered.
Sakura clenched her jaw even tighter. She wondered if she, after everything she’d been taught as a medic, would be able to restrain from killing him if she got the chance. She didn’t have an answer.
Sakura glanced over again and the other woman sat quietly, shrinking into the wall as much as she could, trying, Sakura thought, to be inconspicuous. She tucked her legs up under her and closed her eyes. Sakura couldn’t blame her.
She, on the other hand, stretched her legs in front of her and crossed them at the ankle. “You know the other nin were captured.”
“Yeah, right. By who? You?” He laughed again.
“Meizu and Gozu are dead. As are Daichi, Goro, Hiroto, and Hotaka. Myou, Misumi, Kirisame, Kenta, Ryuu, and Nobu are currently in Konoha prison. Takumi and Sho are back in Suna.” She said it all casually, and watched his eyes get wider with each name. She smiled. “And no, not just me, but then again, there were fourteen of them and ten of us.”
Sakura twisted her neck a little and could feel some of her strength coming back. The soldier pill was kicking in. She smiled wider. “What’s your story? No mommy or daddy? Maybe a dead partner?”
She was goading him to do something, anything that would give her an opening. But he wasn’t quite ready to fall for it. He shrugged. “Pick one. Maybe none. Maybe I just like it.” And as his gaze met hers, Sakura thought that might just be true.
“Well, that’s easy, then. I suppose you and Kirisame got along well, didn’t you? He was crazy, too.”
He smiled thinly. “No, in fact he’s the reason I left. Only room in that group for one truly crazy person.”
He stood, then, and came back around the fire. He squatted over her and ran his hand up her leg. She clenched her jaw again, holding onto her temper. It would do no good to be stupid now.
He grabbed the kunai holster and broke the strap easily, tossing it aside. She did everything in her power not to show the fear. The soldier pill was only going to do so much. She concentrated on her wrists and tried to push chakra into them, but the rope held firm. If he decided he wanted to rape her now, she wouldn’t be able to stop him.
But instead, he just reached up and slapped her, hard. Her head whipped around, her hair falling into her eyes and it was then that she realized her headband was missing. She had no idea where it had fallen.
When she looked back at him, he smiled again, then reached down and grabbed one breast and squeezed it painfully. She refused to show the pain and fought herself through it. There would be bruises, she was sure of it, but she would not give in. Then he slapped it, and then its twin and it took everything she had to keep her face impassive.
“Bitch.” He backhanded her and she felt the blood trickle down from the corner of her mouth.
“Go ahead. Do your worst. You won’t live through the night.” And then she smiled back at him.
His anger got the best of him then and he pulled at her shirt, ripping it straight down the front. With it hanging open, he pulled a kunai out and sliced through the bra. This time, there was nothing between his cruel hands and her flesh and try as she might, she couldn’t completely hide the wince when he slapped them this time.
“Not as cool as you think you are, now, are you?” He slapped her face again, almost absently, then stood and kicked her legs apart. “I’ll do with you what I want to and there’s not a damn thing you can do about it. Some shinobi you are.” He laughed, again, and reached down and cupped her sex. “Anything.” He squeezed. “I.” He grabbed the leg of her spandex shorts. “Want.” And pulled, ripping them all the way up.
Sakura felt the first real fear then. The metallic taste in the back of her mouth only succeeded in pissing her off more, though. And for the first time in her life, she thought she might actually enjoy hurting someone.
He squatted over her again and dragged the kunai down over her skin, not breaking it, just to remind her that he held the upper hand. He slipped it under her underwear and pulled gently, slicing the fabric through one hip. “I can be gentle, too. If I want to be.” He reached up and grabbed her hair pulling her head back. “But I like it rough. Especially with someone like you.” The unhinged smile came again and Sakura swallowed her fear once more.
He grabbed one leg, then, and pulled at it so that Sakura was forced onto her back. He rolled her over and she tried to get her knees under her so she could sit up. He just pushed down on her back, pulling harder on her tied hands. “I’ve already told you, I’m in charge here. I’ll do what I want.” He slapped her inner thighs hard and forced them apart.
Sakura closed her eyes and focused hard. She could not, would not let him rape her. She felt him move behind her, and then felt him stiff against her leg. Her eyes widened and she had to fight the fear now, as well as him, more than ever.
Kakashi picked up the headband and squeezed it in his hand, terror pouring through him. There was only one reason he could think of that she would have lost it. He took a few precious seconds to close his eyes and take a moment to remember how to simply breathe.
When he opened them, he was calmer. But the sun was fading fast and he wasn’t going to be able to track her for long. It was time to call in help. He formed the hand signs, bit his thumb, and slammed his hand onto the ground.
Pakkun, Bull, and Shiba appeared. “Yo, boss.” Pakkun looked around. “What’s wrong?”
Kakashi took a deep breath. “Sakura’s missing.” He held out the headband. “I was tracking her, but the light is going. We need to find her and now.”
He offered them the headband, but Pakkun just shook his head. “We know her scent, we don’t need that.” He turned to the other two. “Let’s go.” And the three nin-ken took off, noses to the ground.
Kakashi followed and a short while later they hit the river. He paused to watch the area carefully. It wouldn’t do for someone to get the drop on him now. Pakkun looked up at him. “She’s over there, somewhere.”
“Okay.” Kakashi nodded and started across.
Once on the other side, the nin dogs split, and Kakashi waited impatiently. “This way,” Pakkun called and Kakashi took off after him. When he caught up, though, Pakkun was sitting in front of a solid sheer rock face. “She’s in there.” Bull and Shiba caught up to them then and the three dogs looked up at him.
Kakashi examined the rock face and realized that whoever it was knew earth elements. He wished fervently for Yamato in that moment. “Okay, well, she’s in there. I’ll have to find another way in. You can go.” But when he didn’t hear the poof, he looked down at the dogs and were surprised by their faces. “What?”
“Find her, boss. Please,” Pakkun said and Bull and Shiba nodded, then they all poofed.
Kakashi blinked for a few seconds at the spot that the dogs had been. Then, shaking his head, he started up the side of the wall.
She closed her eyes, trying desperately to focus. She had to do something, and fast. The terror snuck up on her and she struggled briefly, but he just smacked her hard again, this time on the ass. The crack went through her and she nearly bit her tongue to hold in the grunt.
Then he was there, trying to force his way in as she struggled. “That’s good, struggle for me. I like that even better.” He laughed again.
She bit down on her tongue and it helped center her a little bit. She closed her eyes once more, and concentrated, gathering her chakra. Then she released it all at once, focused on where he was trying to force her. She was rewarded when he yelled and fell backwards.
“You bitch! You’ll regret that!” He’d recovered too quickly, but she’d managed to roll herself over and kick out with her legs. She knocked him down, then struggled to her feet. She had to get rid of the ropes. As she danced away from him, she tried once more to focus her chakra and pull, but they wouldn’t budge.
“Dammit.” She realized that what chakra she’d been able to summon had been used up. She glanced up then, hoping for some kind of advantage and stopped dancing. Then she smiled.
It gave him pause. “Decided to give in?” He sneered. “Maybe you’d just prefer to lay there and take it?”
“No,” she said and her smile widened.
