Chapter Twenty One

�They�re going to think that you�re evil, Mahina.�

The ten year old girl was silent as she looked up at Hiro, seeing that he was casually sprawled across a badly burnt rafter. As she looked around, she could see that the entire room had been badly burnt. �No, they aren�t. I�m good.� Mahina protested.

Hiro flicked his wrist, the pictures of the Bijuu destroying villages appearing on one of the blackened walls. �You drew those. Remember? What do you think Sasuke and Sai are going to do once they get back? Keep what they found out a secret from the Hokage?� Hiro jeered at her, his eyes flashing with hate. �They�re going to tell. He�s going to think that you�re going to kill everybody.�

�I�m not!�

�That�s what you say. The past is pretty damning, little sister.� He lazily got up and slipped off of the rafter, landing gracefully onto the ash covered floor. �That�s what they say about our family. That we�re damned and that we got what we deserved.� A smirk spread across his face. �Divided into two opposing forces and the Bijuu are caught in the middle.�

�Shut up! I�m the last one! I don�t want to control the Bijuu and make them hurt people! I want them to be happy and leave humans alone!�

�You can�t have it like that. Our family controlled the Bijuu to protect those stupid cowards,� his voice dripped with venom as if he was disgusting with the entire human race. �They feared us so they decided to kill off out entire family!�

Mahina frowned slightly as she tried to make Hiro go away. Usually he vanished once she got tired of talking to him, but this time he decided to stay. �Sorry, baby sis, but I�m not leaving so easily.� Hiro stated simply. �If you want to be good and protect the Bijuu, then tell that Jinchuuriki that cares for you that even though Kyuubi�s inside of him, we can still get him.�

Laughing, the ghost vanished without a trace as the burnt building around her collapsed.

�You�re absolutely positive?�

Sasuke and Sai both nodded at the blonde, watching him carefully for any signs that he was going to get upset. �Every one of my contacts that we�ve spoken with have each claimed that there was a disagreement in the family over controlling Bijuu.� Sasuke reported. �They have even confirmed that there is one member other than Mahina that�s still alive.�

Naruto closed his eyes for a moment before asking, �Do they know who it is?�

�Male, between thirteen and sixteen years old. According to everyone that emo-sama and I have spoken to, the boy is pretty evil.� Sai finished. �No one knows his name.�

�Okay, so let me see if I�ve got this straight. Mahina�s family got into a fight over what exactly they�re going to do with the Bijuu and there are only two survivors except instead of working together and rebuilding their family, they�re going to attempt to destroy each other.� Naruto said slowly.

�That�s correct.� Sasuke confirmed.

The blonde shook his head a little before commenting, �Your family and hers must have collaborated at some point in time, teme. I don�t know how many families have two survivors where one is actually attempting to kill the other.�

Sasuke bristled slightly at the comment before answering, �Very funny, dobe.�

�I thought it was.� Naruto looked serious again. �We gotta find out more about this relative of Mahina�s. Were you able to find out his location?�

�No. He keeps moving around so it�ll be difficult to track him if you do want to try.� Sasuke answered.

Sai looked at the blonde for a moment before asking, �Do you want to find him and have him brought back to the village, Naruto-kun?�

Naruto closed his eyes for a moment before answering, �Let�s assume that he�s an evil version of Mahina. Let�s wait a while to see if we can�t get a decent idea about what to expect before we do anything.�

The two ravens nodded slightly in understanding before Sasuke said warily, �There�s also something else you should know, Naruto.�

�What?�

�The Kage clan� they had a very unique ability that Orochimaru was interested in copying.�

�What is it?�

With a sigh, Sasuke began explaining.
The sound of a pencil scratching against paper reached the girl�s ears as she drew, silently committing the conversation between Hiro and herself onto paper. She had stopped drawing her nightmares two years ago and began drawing when Hiro would come to talk to her. Each time he came, he always spoke such hateful words.

He didn�t believe that the Jinchuuriki were still alive. All they were in Hiro�s eyes were mere corpses. They were shadows of the people that they had either been or was going to be.

He hated it when she argued against him, claiming that the Jinchuuriki were all alive. Well, six of the eight were dead now but they had been alive. Hiro said that all the Bijuu were good for was for destroying their enemies and that the Jinchuuriki were pests.

Why they were pests, she didn�t know but she had a feeling that it had to do with them being able to use their Bijuu�s power. Maybe some members of her family had been threatened by that knowledge. Maybe they felt that only a select few humans should be able to control a Bijuu.

Once she was finished drawing, she packed up her sketchbook and pencil before starting to walk towards the Hokage tower. Once upon a time, she would have been afraid to tell her father anything negative that Hiro told her. Now�

Now she just wanted to show that she was capable of being good when her family decided to kill everybody.
�Lord Hokage?�

Naruto looked up from his paperwork, seeing his daughter standing in the doorway. �Mahina. Come in.� Naruto said with a smile. �I was actually thinking about having somebody get you.�

The girl simply smiled at him before looking serious again. �Hiro came back to me today. He told me that I shouldn�t be trying to free the Bijuu.� Mahina reported to her father.

Immediately the blonde raised an eyebrow. How long has it been since the ghost appeared to the girl? It must have been at least a year and a half. �Why does he say that?� Naruto questioned.

�I don�t know. He made it clear that Kyuubi isn�t safe� like someone else could control Bijuu like I can.� Mahina frowned slightly as if she was struggling to understand. �I�m the last one in my real family. Right?�

Motioning for his daughter to sit down, Naruto sighed. �You know that Sai and Sasuke went to see what they could find out.� Naruto said calmly. �They found out a few things about your family.�

�Like what?�

�Mahina, you have a relative somewhere that�s still living and from they�ve heard from neutral people, that relative�s not exactly the nicest guy around.�

He would have been content to watch the clouds by himself and just relax for a bit before he started doing everything that he labeled as troublesome. Once he had settled down and had watched the clouds moving lazily across the sky for a while, he felt a familiar chakra coming towards him. �Your father tell you that I was back?� Shikamaru questioned calmly.

Mahina didn�t answer for a moment as she laid down next to him and stared up at the clouds. �No, I sensed your chakra.� Mahina answered simply. �Kyuubi�s chakra kind of rubbed off on everybody my father spends plenty time around. Now it�s like grabbing colored ribbons and following it to whoever I want to talk to.�

Of course. Put anybody near demons for any amount of time and set them loose in Konoha, it�s only natural that the girl would be able to locate them. �Troublesome.� Shikamaru answered.

Neither spoke for a while before Mahina sighed. �Uncle Shika, if you had a relative that was hurting people, what would you do?� Mahina questioned.

�What brought that question?�

�Dad just told me that I have a relative that�s still alive, but he�s hurting people and he�s using demons.� Mahina fell silent for a moment before continuing, �I don�t know what to do. I�m gonna get my Jounin teacher soon and I know we�ll eventually get missions that take us out of the village. What do I do if I see my relative and he tries to hurt everybody?�

Shikamaru was silent as he thought before answering, �You do what the situation calls for. Sometimes a situation will call for capture while another will call for you to kill. There are other options, but capture and death are the two main options that eventually comes to pass.�

�But� What if he�s only hurting people because he�s lonely and hurting? I wanted to make people hurt because I was lonely and hurting when I was held by Orochimaru.�

�Then maybe he can be reasoned with.� Shikamaru looked patiently at her. �I don�t want you to get your hopes up about that, Mahina. There�s a chance that he either can�t or won�t.�

The girl nodded as she looked at Shikamaru, her eyes showing that she understood. Turning her attention back to the clouds, she smiled brightly as if she were six. �Hey, Uncle Shika, you know what I see?� Mahina questioned.

�What?�

�A rabbit.�
